Brunch hats, cowboy boots, and neon honky tonks on Broadway. If this is what comes to mind when you think of Nashville, TN, then you only know a fraction of Music City's story. In the first installment of Local Rules, TGJ Films embeds alongside three locals to explore how hot chicken restaurants, literature classes, and guitar licks combine with thriving public golf and a handful of world-class routings to create a one-of-a-kind golf scene.
Featuring:
‪@DrewHolcombMusic‬ - Singer/songwriter
Nick Bishop Jr. - Founder, Hattie B's Hot Chicken
Robbie Matz - Professor, Belmont University
This film was made in partnership with ‪@titleist‬

Man, I really really enjoyed that. I love Nashville. Bringing in my first child here and cannot wait to raise a family here.

While Nashville golf may not be the best in the world, it got me through the three hardest years of my life. Was playing McCabe south #8 when my best friend got the phone call that his cancer had relapsed, he proceeded to birdie the hole. We were hitting at the range a few weeks later and had our last conversation before he died 3 days after. Played Vanderbilt legends club with some dear friends a couple days after losing my first child. Don’t really remember any golf that day but will also never forget it. Spent many rounds at Greystone with coworkers and friends from the Vandy ER, processing and dealing with life. Moved away from Nashville for work but Nashville will always have a very special place in my heart. I had played golf before but golf will mean more to me forever because of Nashville golf

As a born and raised south Nashvillian(not Brentwood...Nashville) i can't say how much i love this. I've played every course(sans Governors Club...one day) and they all have so much to offer, but so much of it is who you're with and not where you are. Harpeth Hills is my home away from home. I can't tell you how many life revelation i've had on that course. Especially long on 3. Please more videos like this!

Need more courses in Nashville.

As a resident of Middle TN, I'd disagree about public golf. While Middle TN has some good public golf courses, it really is not a very good public golf town. We desperately need more quality public golf courses, but every time a new course is built, it's a "ultra-exclusive" private, with massive initiations out of reach of normal people. That's not to say there's not good golf in Nashville, just that it needs to be better.

Amen. The public golf scene here is not great. Not because the courses are bad; there’s just not enough courses. It’s a bummer. Would love for someone with deep pockets to come here and build something like a Streamstrong where people would come here for golf in addition to all the other things that make Nashville great. There are enough people coming here that want to add golf to their weekend trip. People ask me where to play all the time and it’s really only Hermitage, Harpeth Hills, and Opryland (Gaylord Springs) and good luck getting a tee time. Those tee sheets stay fairly full.
@wadesworld6250
@wadesworld6250 6 месяцев назад
@@bantamgolf Agreed. I wouldn't even put Harpeth Hills on the list. Hermitage, Gaylord, and Greystone or Montgomery Bell are the only public courses I would recommend to someone who is a serious golfer. Everything else is decent, but wouldn't be a first recommendation.

@@wadesworld6250 I play at Hermitage weekly and pretty much everyone I get paired up with is from out of town. I really think Hermitage and Gaylord are the only two viable options for travelers. I'm not sure of any one who would drive out to Greystone (even if it's a great course) just because it's 30+ minutes outside of town.

Harpeth isn’t premium, but deff most scenic course in Nashville with great pace of play (although hard to get tee times). Hermitage Presidents is obvs a nice course (Generals is underwhelming), but pace of play is usually pretty terrible. I’ve played 5.5 hour rounds there on most occasions. Greystone same way. Driving 1 hr 30 mins to play Sewanee is often my favorite golf day.

It makes it tough cause the land is so expensive. But, I love the idea of Streamsong concept. Great idea

Great video but this is just the tip of the iceberg. Ted Rhodes GC, another Nashville public track, honors the Nashville native who is recognized as the first African American professional golfer after playing in the 1948 US Open. He also brought litigation against the PGA Tours "Caucasian only" rule. He mentored other color barrier-breaking golfers Lee Elder and Charlie Sifford. Lots of great golf for all in this city and plenty of great history with it.

Nashville is an example of what is wrong with golf in America...too private & exclusionary.

I wanted to love this, it’s well shot and was going great with Drew Holcomb, but highlighting Hattie B’s and Belmont ruined this video.
@blackbdmillsaps7019

Yes! To ignore Prince’s hot chicken and instead promote Hattie B’s was absurd. Also I have lived my entire life in nashville and no one I know “grew up eating hot chicken.” Definitely something that has been corporatized and co-opted by us white folks. Was not really a thing here for the masses until like 2010 but ok.
