When they raised their price previously, and stopped the ability to share, I cancelled it. There comes a point when you realise you are not getting value for your money. Each person has their own threshold. I suspect, given the current economy, that many are deciding they prefer electricity to Netflix. I am one of them.

Where I’m from we still believe in God, Family and Country. The Sussex’s have absolutely no concept of what dignity, honor, love and respect mean and Netflix producers monetized their behavior. I cancelled my Netflix subscription for two reasons…the first was the amount of their subscribers money went into the Harkles pockets, which I emphatically objected to…the second was the monthly subscription cost. It started at £5.99 per month. It then increased annually until they were asking for £10.99 per month. This was also at the same time they had brought the deceitful faux royals on board. During the five years I was a loyal customer I received no offers or perks by way of thank you for your custom over the years, yet new customers were offered cheaper deals. In fact they dropped my family sharing deal from four to none. I would never return to unscrupulous Netflix now no matter what. Especially after their depiction of the Crown.

We've never subscribed to Netflix, Spotify, Amazon Prime, Disney, none of them, ever. My stepson put us on his Netflix account when you could share, but we never found anything we wanted to watch. RU-vid has some great documentaries, and their music is good too, but we don't listen to modern music, so I have no idea what that's like.
@Locutus

RU-vid has all sorts of music, not just modern music. If you want to listen to Beethoven, or Mozart, or listen to the Hollies, or the Carpenters, you can find their music on YT. I am into electronic dance music (which I am listening to right now), and YT is always recommending great EDM tracks to me, as I listen to it so much. If you like the Hollies, the Carpenters, YT will recommend more music of the like to you, even stuff from that era you may never have heard of.

I unsubbed from Netflix around about the time Meghan and Harry was paid outrageous amounts for their ''documentary" and I havent looked back. Normally I rotate which streamers I have ... i.e. I might sub to Stan for a couple months till I have caught up on all their new content and then ditch that and sub to Bling or some other. It's not a tax. No one if forcing you to watch "live TV". If you don't want to pay the licence fee, don't watch "live TV", it's that simple, then no one can force you to pay the fee.
@nonyobisniss7928
@nonyobisniss7928 7 месяцев назад
@@Locutus It's not quite that simple. You get harassed forever unless you give in to their intimidation and jump through their hoops which have no legal basis. And even then the harassment only abates for a year or two before they start it back up. It's beyond pathetic that a company is acting in this way. Imagine any other company acting in that way. As for needing a license for any sort of "live TV", that's what makes it very much like a tax. Why should anyone have to pay the BBC for the right to watch a channel that has nothing whatsoever to do with the BBC? More and more of us are quite willing to go without watching any form of live streaming, but to gate an entire technology behind a tax like this is regressive and unforgivable. Everyone who's ever worked at the BBC should be taxed 10% extra on their income (including pensions) for the rest of their lives until they've paid back the British public in full.
@Locutus
@Locutus 7 месяцев назад
@@nonyobisniss7928 Every couple of months, I get a TVL letter saying I'm under investigation. Do you know what I do with them? I throw them in the bin, or do return to sender. If you get that upset over a TVL letter, then something is wrong with you. If TVL come to your door, and you answer it, politely say I don't want to talk to you, goodbye and close the door. That's it, that simple. Unless they have a warrant, they can't do anything. The more you think about this, the more you're going to overthink and overexert yourself in panic. Don't let it bother you. Just ignore it. Watching live TV is not a Human Right, there are other forms of entertainment, for your entertainment. Watch DVDs, listen to the radio, watch streaming services, read the newspaper, etc. That's just such a ridiculous statement saying BBC employees should be made to pay extra on their taxes. It's as if BBC employees have committed crimes against Humanity, or the British people.... Imagine if I said people in your industry should be taxed an extra 10%, because I don't like the way they operate, because they impose a "tax" I don't like, even though I can easily avoid it.... What a ridiculous and ludicrous statement to make. Any credibility you had is now zero....

If I was going to cancel anything it would be my cable TV package, but it hasn’t gotten to that point yet. What I do find frustrating is the number of different streaming services that have launched. I got Disney+ to be able to watch the new Star Wars content but to watch new Star Trek content I’d have to get Paramount+, I had Amazon Prime anyway so could watch Good Omens 2 but otherwise would have had to subscribe &c. Hopefully, at some point soon either the services will merge or some aggregator will appear so I don’t have keep subscribing to more services for just one or two shows I want to see on each.

I do not have any subscriptions. As for RU-vid, why pay for that. We all have our own accounts, and with ad blockers never see any ads. I do pay for my Tesla subscription at 9.99 per month and that includes Spotify among a lot of other benefits. So I think that is good value,

My son had Netflix and when he came to mine we used to watch it on my tv. However there were only a few things worth watching. As I said before I don’t watch any tv. In fact we only have the tv on 3 days a week. 2 of those occasions are for rozi karaoke. The other time is to watch a Blu-ray movie. Instead of paying for a subscription it is cheaper to buy a film which we want to watch. Especially some of these older classics like Grease. Ok seen it thousands of time. But still good.

Doesn't matter who you are Or what you earn. It's how you spend your money. Seen once a cleaner mentioned to her boss about him doing his shopping at budget supermarkets etc. He could easily do it elsewhere .he simple remark was clear. His savings he made he spent it on a cleaner. Spend yout money wisely. If not some else will.

I find Netflix to be a constant dissapointment, as the ammount of available movies is EXTREMELY limited. On too many occasions i have entered a movie i wanted to watch into the search option and it saying "We don't have that, but you might like....." I have seen that reply constantly even after a dozen popular movie searches in a row......WOW! I find it shocking that the old video stores had more choice than an 'online sevice' in 2023 - mind boggling. I would have cancelled Netflix AGES ago, but my wife uses it for tv shows, which i also think it sucks at, with its extremely limited choice, it absolutely amazes me how its become even slightly popular as it is very mediocre (at best).

My personal opinion it is a pitty that films are in private companies. Even in those Netflix they do not have all the films the client wants with a precise film....only some of them. So one of the clients has to look all over these private companies to find a film. It is bad for the customer

Streaming services use the wrong model for me. It's still the legacy sky/cable model of pay upfront for the majority of stuff to go unwatched. What would interest me and I think work better is a basic buy per view like YT films. Maybe get the first episode of a series free as a taster and then buy per episode or the whole series at a discount. It would possibly encourage front loading of production quality but the market could correct that out.

Only thing we have Netflix for these days is for the younger nieces to watch things on and they don’t seem to care for the ads. However for pretty much everything else, RU-vid, Disney+ and occasionally Amazon prime are the ones we have with only Disney and Amazon paid for (one by me, the other by my wife). Cheapest Netflix level for now, but unlikely to be with us for long as the nieces grow up and start watching other things.

Daniel, a quick question of law. My 16 year old daughter has an issue at her small job concerning payslips. I won't go into detail but looking at the 1991 Payment of Wages Act Section 4, I was wondering if there was a distinction between 'shall give' i.e. the employer posts, sends or delivers as opposed to collected i.e. employee has to go to and find said payslip. It's a long story but it's just this little distinction that I would appreciate some clarity over. In advance, thank you.

But you can get it cheaper. There's plan with adverts which is much like watching itv etc and there's the 1080p plan too which for me is fine unless I sit too close to my TV. At about 8 feet away it looks 4k 😀
@ApolloT-vp5dn
@ApolloT-vp5dn 7 месяцев назад
@letni9506 Streaming with adverts that replicates TV defeats the whole point of streaming. Even the 1080p package is getting too expensive to justify. And in relation to the 4K quality, compared to 4K BluRay, the streaming of 4K is worthless as the bit rate is so poor you end up with a worse image than if you stick with 1080p.

Agree with you, Netflix is not really worth it for me either. I occasionally subscribe if I'm terribly bored. I feel that movies have somewhat gone the way of the music industry where we are just super saturated with media from all directions for free that it's simply rarely worth it to pay for a movie. Now don't get me wrong, I will pay and handsomely for my favourite actors but only if I have time to see it at the movies etc. Cheers for the videos btw

I pay for it in Ukraine (VPN) and I'm still considering just cancelling as I only get it for the family. Even though I have it I still P2P my stuff as it's easier for me and I can track all my stuff on trakt. I also pay for RU-vid premium family. I think RU-vid is the only thing I'd keep. I cancelled Disney plus too. It's crazy when P2P is better by far. Better quality and everything in one location. I do pay for a P2P service I won't list here but it's only a few pounds a month and makes everything work just as Netflix or Disney plus.

Only thing I bought is Chanel 4 OD. It’s ad- free and £40 for the year. I just love all the old shows. I’ve rewatched Derry Girls, IT Crowd and Fraiser so many times. Other than Stranger Things (not the last series), nothing else on Netflix stands out. They seem so unoriginal with their original stuff. And the choice of mainstream/non-Netflix shows is very limited. If I had the financial means, I’d definitely get a better Sky package though because let’s face it, it is so worthwhile with the millions of channels.

The benchmark is the licence fee, dropping all live broadcasts in favour of just one service even with with adverts seems a bad move unless no one in your household watches live tv. The tv licence fee has fallen behind so the next few years will be interesting with a new government and the charter renewal in 2027.
