Here’s what I know about the Xterra; I still see a ton of them on the road, and they don’t look beat up, the paint still looks great, and they don’t look at all dated. They stopped selling them in 2015 and if I didn’t know better, I’d swear Nissan was still making them.

I’ve had a Hardbody, three Titans, a Rogue and two Kicks. You could call me a Nissan fan. A couple of month ago, the Sales Manager and I were chatting while my Titan was getting new oil. He was trying to get me to trade in for a ‘24 Titan, but I’m not quite ready… My ‘19 is almost paid off. I want to keep it until I’m closer to retirement, then buy something new to ride unto the sunset. He then asked me if I would consider the new Xterra. He went on to tell me it is definitely coming back and will be a Bronco and Jeep killer. I’m excited to see what the future brings.

I drove my 2006 Nissan Xterra off the lot brand new in May of 2006. Today, it only has 92,000 miles and I can honestly say it has never once let me down. It has lived in my garage and I have kept up on preventive maintenance and did the few recalls that came up. Tires, an A/C repair. a new windshield, and a new radiator (recommended by the dealer and the internet) are the only things besides regular maintenance I have done to it. Over 17 years old, I still love it, and everything still works, even the low windshield fluid light on the dash that came on for the first time two month ago, which went away when I filled the reservoir.

Personally I think a 2 row would be fine. Not to big but yet enough cargo that a person could lay the second row down,throw in a mattress and sleep if on a camping trip. I suspect that if a 6 ft to maybe 6.3 person could fit in it most folks could. While it seems this generation is taller than my generation I'm not sure we are completely a land of Giants yet.

Nissan actually started making the new xterra in 2020 in Middle East I live in Oman and here Nissan xterra comes with a 2.5 liter inline 4 cylinder engine one which is in Altima and is having 6 speed automatic transmission It is having a proper low range 4wd gear box and 7 seats It starts from around $26000 usd & top trim cost about $35000 usd
@Nd4SpdSe
@Nd4SpdSe 7 месяцев назад
Not the same. It's build on the smaller platform, the same as the Navara, and is 4cyl only. It's still a decent off-roader with a rear locker and even a 3-row, but would never work here.

@@pritpalsingh4537 the previous gen Xterra also had a smaller SOHC V6. Unless they can shoehorn in a proper V6 (and still pass safety standards) it's not going to happen. What happens over there in the Middle East doesn't reflect what works over here in North America. The X-Terra (not Xterra), which is the same as the Terra, competes against the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Everest, Isuzu MU-X, Mitsubishi Montero and Mazda CX-8...all vehicles we don't have here.

@@Nd4SpdSe Toyota gonna start selling Tacoma and Land Cruiser in USA with 4-cyl turbo. What are ya talking about?? Just don't use a CVT and you can sell it here.
@Nd4SpdSe
@Nd4SpdSe 7 месяцев назад
People already complain about everything being underpowerd, and you want a full-framed 180hp 4cyl SUV? It's a 3-row, but does it fit us larger people in North America well? The NP3000 Navara (on which it's based) doesn't pass North American crash tests, which is why you can't import one from Mexico. The (X-)Terra would have the same problem, especially on a vehicle that may or may not sell and Nissan wouldn't invest in that. They actually already tried IIRC with the D22. For the Xterra to be worthwhile, it would have to be based on the current the D41 Frontier. As TFL said, people want simpler and that's where the Frontier shines. Toyota has a good turbo-4-hybrid, but that also corrects performance issues with the 3.5L V6. Nissan doesn't have much in their arsenal for turbo4's, and they're currently working on V6's and even downsizing the (wonderful) V8 to a turbo V6. Best to put what they got, cause realistically, if they offer exactly what Toyota is offering, then you're just better off going with a Toyota to begin with.

Nissan already laid out the foundation for the Xterra which is the current gen Frontier, and that is exactly what they did almost 2 decades ago with the D40 and the N51. I rescued my 2001 from getting crushed back in 2018. It was an abandoned vehicle at a towyard that no one wanted because it was the 2.4L KA RWD base model with a lot of issues. Still running and driving, though. I paid $550 for it with 153K and a clean title. It's an EX1 Gold Rush Metallic paint-code. I've since rebuilt the engine, replaced the transmission, and gave it the 16" wheels from the V6 model. Scored everything for it from the junkyards near me, and most of the engine parts came off Frontiers since KA variants seem more common for those. It's only 150 HP and limited to 100MPH, but to be fair, it's a timing chain engine where the V6 was 170HP and had a top speed of 117, and that engine had a timing belt. If they create a third generation with body on frame construction, a manual transmission option, and a turbocharged 4 cylinder option with a timing chain, I would make that the first new car I'd buy without hesitation. In the mean time, my 01 is a great daily driver. Had no problem getting me to work in the -10F snowstorm we had several weeks back.

I had a 2003 Supercharged (5-Speed) Xterra for almost 14 years but sadly had to retire it from a rusting frame. I ended up going with a V8 Pathfinder to replace it. Something felt missing in the gen2 Xterra. I know it's supposed to be more bare-bones, but felt cheaper then my gen1. I know it's technically less capable off-road (well see as I build it up) but it's still in no comparison to the Pathfinder since 2013 and up, no matter how rugged the 2022+ looks. I know Nissan is done with the V8, but I just love it. The Xterra towed 5000lbs, but the V6 Pathfinder did 6000lbs and the Frontier 6500lbs on the same drivetrain. Heck, a V8 Wrangler is only allowed 3500lbs and the Bronco Raptor only 4500lbs. It is kinda ironic that it took both the Pathfinder and the Xterra to compete against the 4Runner as they both did, but neither at the same time, all depending on the trim level. Personally, the Xterra needs to come back as yes, a body-on-frame truck, (small) 3rd row with a 6000lb towing capacity. Frontier-based with a solid rear axle and locker. No hybrid, simple to maintain. Make this a capable work and off-road vehicle. Probably cause you don't want to eat into their "Rock Creek" Mallfinder sales.

@@jeffk464 Agreed there should be more vehicles trying to out 4Runner the 4Runner. Regardless, prices will be discounted if consumers just don't buy. Run your current vehicle another year. Easy

Just sold my 2006 Xterra 209,000 mi. Replaced it with a 2022 rogue. Just seen an article on autoblog from march 29. Nissan stated that the idea is being “very actively considered”. I would definitely buy one!

I’d still prefer the 2014 Nissan xterra pro-4x. The 2nd gen looks more truck based, more rugged, and more like something you would take off-road. We have a 2nd gen xterra and it still to this day is a off-road bargain!

yes, as a 2017 and 2005 Pathfinder owner. Love to see the X-Terra on a truck frame. May consider this instead of a Pathfinder as I prefer the truck frame. Hope towing is up there past the 6500 lbs as well.

I would buy this in a heartbeat. I had a 2000 xterra for a decade and it is my all time favorite vehicle that I have owned. I have a 2023 Nissan Frontier that I have always thought would make a great platform for a new xterra, with some modifications. Nissan Paint of the new frontier is absolutely horrible. The body encourages rock chips as Nissan put zero protection there. My one year old truck has almost $5000 in rock damage after only a year and this is just going up and down my one mile dirt road to my house. They will have an instant hit with a new xterra. I just hope it isnt a $50k SUV

The cargo space needs to be bigger than in the Xterra. Affordability is key! You guys are specing it on the head. A bigger rear seat would be nice too. IE Crew Maxish. Give 4Runner a run for my money.

I have had several Nissans in my family including 3 Xterras (2006/2010/currently 2014 and a 2022 Nissan Frontier. I have never had any issues with these vehicles except your normal recalls. I have about 25,000 miles on the 2014 and it still runs great. Realizing that its old technology which is why they were pretty cheap. I have been waiting for a new Xterra for years now. I would love to see a new Xterra . I live near the water and need for a decent ground clearance of the 9.5 foot or more. More interior room especially in the back seat which is currently cramped in the old ones. I do not want an open pick up. I prefer a mid sized or larger SUV enclosed. I look forward to see what Nissan is planning.

Pro4x edition: Body on frame, wide track IFS in front, trailing arms in rear, stock 33" or 35" tires, 4 cylinder turbo or turbo v6 over 400hp / 400 lb-ft torque, front and rear diff locks, 9sp trans. Not required: adaptive cruise control, lane departure, auto this and that, and all the other bullshit they throw on the vehicles nowadays. I own a 2015 xterra pro4x and love the damn thing. Only considered trading it in because of the anemic afterketmarket support for Nissan. Built it, in the configuration i described, and i will buy it.

I have a friend that works for Nissan and I have been telling him that Nissan is being really stupid by not bringing back the Xterra when you have Wrangler, Bronco and now Land Cruiser in that market. It would be as easy to build as just taking a Frontier V6 Pro 4X, chopping the length of the chasis and building a SUV top...

It was definitely a scratch on the head when Nissan discontinued the Xterra in 2015 when the off-road segment was just getting popularized. Same goes for the Toyota FJ Cruiser around the same time. It's a no brainer if they brought it back now, it would be an instant hit and give Toyota a run for their money with the likes of the 4Runner and upcoming Land Cruiser. We had a first model year 2000 Xterra in black back in the early 2000s and we loved it. The design still holds up to this day, at least on the outside. The interior leaves a lot to be desired.

Your rendering needs the stadium seating with roof bump out with the bin and aux lights, just like the old one….with the rubberized flooring. Just base it off the current Frontier and call it a day.

We owned an ‘03 Xterra at the same time as an ‘01 4Runner. Both great rigs with almost zero issues. Apples-to-apples the 4Runner was a better rig for all the little things: multi-mode t-case, tailgate window that went up/down, auto window controls, rear area space, back seat design, ride quality and suspension design, engine/transmission driveability.

I have had a used 2012 Xterra that I bought about 3 years ago with 114k miles. I now have 150k miles on it and have had to do nothing to it except oil changes. It is a beast in the snow with decent tires. The mpgs hover around 19 with mixed driving, which isn't great, but tolerable for awhile. It is easy to park in town, is roughly cubed-shaped so it has good interior volume, and you sit high with great visibility. The ground clearance is 9.75" on mine. I would definitely be interested in seeing a Frontier-based Xterra returning to the market. It seems like it would be very easy to close in the bed of the Frontier, open the back of the cab, and make it an SUV. I hope Nissan goes for it. Even better; add a factory pop-top with tent and bed.

I had a 2007 Xterra off-road and it was a beast. I now have a 2016 Wrangler 2dr which I traded my Nissan for. It was a mistake. I wish Nissan would make something as compact as a two-door Wrangler. If Nissan came out with the xterra again and put a v6 non turbo in it, you would see at least one, maybe two in my driveway. Have an old 4runner that I’m looking to replace but I won’t be replacing it with a new one because I don’t like the 4 cylinder or the turbo. If a manufacturer comes out with an old school suv with a proper engine, they have my money.
