S21 still giving me better and comfortable hands on feel. Because it's lighter and I think plastic isn't that bad at all. Plastic does not break that easily as glass......
I'm still using the s10. theres nothing wrong with it. ive changed the battery earlier this year, and it still performs. sure, performance is comparable to a midranger and the battery life is somewhat mediocre in todays standards. but it does the job, plus it has more features than Samsung's offerings today. i will keep using it until i see a compelling upgrade from my s10. keeping unnecessary e-waste from landfills is also a consideration in my books.
I contemplated upgrading from the S10 to S23 for months. Finally pulled the plug as I got a good deal on it. Honestly, it's worth it. The display is better, design is better, cameras are better, performance is better, software is better. 3-4 years does make a big difference.
@@---GOD---Main camera is not better no. The only thing that is better is the screen brightness and if you don't really need it by beeing on the sea it's a waterfall of money. And so are s24.
Mines b tweaking now . I can't even update it anymore it be Randomly shutting off on me , I can continue but beyond that . The s21 has treated me very very well I love everything that it has to offers I give it a 10 out of 10
Thanks for the video. I have an S21and I love it. I still don't see this comparison as reason enough to upgrade tho. My battery life has improved contrary to yours. Plus, my phone runs so well and I've never had any issues with it.
Literally the only reason I'm considering upgrading from my S21 is the diminishing battery life. This phone has been aging super well compared to any of my other phones. Love it.
@@flyingunicorn I pretty much have to charge it 2+ times a day if I'm using it a lot now. I didn't used to beg to do that. I even uninstalled a lot of battery heavy apps but didn't make much of a difference.
So tru. But previous comment is right. No many will notice the tru difference and as for myself I would rather have a better chip set. Even if I won't use to full potential. Also its better that one chipset is used worldwide.
Got s21 exynos. Runs still great as day 1 Battery life took a small down yeah, but 3 years have passed at this point, so predictable The performance is what is keeping me on the line for upgrading to the s23U or even the s24u (wich i'm not as excited as everyone else, smaller upgrades that will come to the s23u eventually) I have the 256/8 version tho. Don't know if it could make a difference tho
I got my 21 last Thursday and im blown away.. i come from rhe s21 FE who got stolen and at first I thought there wasnt gonna be a major difference, but one i got this s21 on my hands the difference is quite noticeable, from the build, the screen and the brightness to the performance and camera. I truly recommended!!!!!!
S24 leaks show massive GPU performance gains and finally a real camera upgrade. If you can wait the, 24 will probably be the phone to buy as the S23 is pretty much just a refresh.
I'm watching this on an S20 and had already decided to skip the S23, the camera improvements were not enough of a change to make me upgrade. Maybe the S24!!!
What I don't like about the S22 to the S23 is the designs. The S22 got rid of the curved back. I like how Samsung reverted back to flat screens, but the curved backs is one of the reasons why it's still comfortable to hold. And with the durable screen, It's like a middle ground. And the fact that with the S23, Samsung tried to throw out their unique designs just to be an Apple clone (again)
I went S21+ since it was second generation 120hz device and that was important for me. Still snappy, good battery, and gonna get Android 14/15 + 1 extra year of security updates.
Its still great yes, but the exynos variant... I have to charge at least twice a day and have a lot of micro lags, I will switch. Still a great overall phone tho, even in 2023,
@@lxnd mine's the Exynos variant as well.. perfectly fine in my use case (I mean, depends on use case After putting on a cheap protector, the screen just loves to freak out)
@@sajeebcreations5685 the sd version is really good, if the phone isnt too old the battery will be fine too but you might have to charge a second time in the evening, depends on your usage
@@lxnd I am not heavy user just a casual user.I almost spend my day outside so a little bit of scrolling and camera usage is all i need. Will i need to charge it again?
Excellent comparison video!! I have the S21 and I am still getting great battery life and performance from this phone, so I plan to keep it until Samsung stops supporting it or if the phone breaks down and stops working. Overall I am very impressed with what Samsung has been doing with their smartphones in the last three years!! Only wish Google would offer the same OS and security updates that Samsung has been doing!! Keep up the great work, always enjoy your informative videos
Your comment made my night Gerard! Thank you so much for taking the time to share some kindness and support the channel. Wow 😊 I feel the same way, I only made the big mistake of overcharging my device so I'll need one sooner than you. Noob mistake by me 😅
S23 is even worth upgrading over the s22. With the snapdragon battery efficiency it's the biggest upgrade there will probably be in long time (specially against exynos cpu) And the s23 is the most complet phone i've ever tried
Yes you are right, I have S21+ for 2 years now and the phone is great. I de-bloated it from pre-installed bloat and from some samsung apps, features, and its fast as on the first boot. No reason to upgrade to S23. But still, i´m waiting for pixel 8 and then I´ll decide whether keep S21+ or get the Px8. Nice video, stay safe, Lubomir from Slovakia.
The first year I got S21+ it was acing it with all aspects. Battery, camera, smoothness and so on. However, as soon as an update installed around in March 2023, the phone started to "seem" bad in processing speed, battery and specially camera. I am a regular user of basic browsing and youtube and music. No games, I tweaked all background apps to stop functioning. Battery: As soon as i take it out of the plug, 5% of batter is gone within less than 10 minutes even if not being used. Camera: Camera recording became very sluggish and blurry, the 30x zoom used to capture the moon with details on surfuce, however that is not the case as the moon now becoming blurry and out of focus. Processing: If I play music on car bluetooth, and lock the devie it will lag for 5 seconds and the song will be stuttering. if i navigate apps while music is on (Anghami, samsung music, back ground youtube) then all sounds are stuttering. It is a shame that samsung is having such targeted & planned downgrade of performace. PS: I dont download ay weird apps, as I said I am a basic phone user (Email, camera, music, notes, youtube). Not even clicking unknown clicks types of user.
I just got my son the s23 he had the s21 before and he noticed the difference in speed between the 2 the games load faster and he’s able to play everything with out stuttering. And for some reason the s21 uses alot of ram
i normally upgrade every 2yrs on average. stuck with the Samsung Galaxy S-range for many years now. I think my 1st was an S4. the material of the back: majority of people will use a back cover which greatly improves the asthetics of the S21 in my opinion. i don't know of anyone who uses peak brightness and therefore i don't see this as an issue (or "upgrade"). battery is so negligable that i think it's too tough a call to announce either a winner. (comparing each when they were new, obviously). for once, i agree with a tie for cameras. i wouldn't be able to choose a outright winner. both are excellent. benchmark scores: naturally going to be improved in some form on the newer device. this is why i personally didn't go for the S23+ (i had a S21+) but instead decided early this year to upgrade from S21+ to S22 Ultra. as the new S23 launch was only a few weeks away at the time, i was able to pick up my S22 Ultra for literally half the cost of the S23 Ultra. actually less than half the cost. a steal in my opinion. definitely a great upgrade from the S21+. much more so than any huge differences i'd have seen from the S23+. only downside is, i'd consider anything less than the Ultra a big downgrade in future.
Thanks for sharing Don! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I'm usually every two years too, my previous phone usually ends up going to one of my loved ones so the S series update commitment is still really important. I'd argue that the S23 is the first time I'd say you're wrong with your argument about anything less than ultra is a downgrade. The S23 standard might have a smaller screen, but it's basically the same phone as the ultra, minus the stylus. It's an insanely powerful phone.
@Ryan McLeod I usually try to recoup some of the cost towards my new phone by selling the old one on ebay. Oh. Please don't get me wrong. What I meant was purely from the name. Having the "Ultra" model and then having a "Standard" or even "Plus". Just doesn't have the same ring to it. (No pun intended). So, it sounds on paper at least, like it's a downgraded model, even though it's a never range. But sure, I would probably agree that both would be an upgrade. I think if I had been given the choice (at a similar value) of the S23 against the S22 Ultra, it would have been a tough choice to make. But in the end I went for the refurbished "like new" Ultra from a well known highstreet store which still ended up cheaper by some margin than the standard S23. This was my reasoning behind my phone choice of preference. Also, the reviews I'd read comparing the S22 and S23 Ultra models wasn't all that significant to me and so I saw the S22 as an absolute bargain. Too good to miss.
No, the biggest question is whether to switch from S10 to S23 :D, mainly it's the camera and battery and the os version support that is changed; why should I throw 95% used device for a newer model?
So, what if I buy once in live a super expensive professional canon camera, and then whatever phone I buy the camera won't be a special feature :D. Then we are left with the battery and OS support. Battery can last for more than 5 years. What's left is the os support, it will last for 5 years then you install some Android alternative and you can still use it over 10 years.
If you say the S21 is better you're huffing copium. I just got a refurbished S21 Ultra to upgrade over my Note 10+ but no one can seriously say the S23 is worse and not be kidding themselves.
Dropped my s21 5g so many times and in water too, and although speakers aren't optimal, everything works fine to where I'm still comfortable watching videos on it. Love samsung idk why ppl hate androids so much. Like keep samsung's name out of it, it's a diff kind!
I'M STILL USING MY 4G SAMSUNG S7 THAT CAME OUT IN 2016, MAKING IT 7 YRS OLD. STILL WORKS FINE THE ONLY THINGS MY PHONE DOES NOT SUPPORT ARE NEWER APPS, LIKE THE MY BANK APP. I PREFER SAMSUNG SO I DECIDE TO WATCH A FEW REVIEWS ON THE GALAXY S21 AND SEE IF IT WAS WORTH BUYING, YOUR VIDEO WAS MY 3RD AND SO I WILL BUY IT ON ON WEDNESDAY FROM AMAZON ITS UNLOCKED AND ONLY COMES IN PHANTOM GRAY. HOPEFULLY, IT WILL BE A GOOD PHONE FOR ANOTHER 3 YEARS THEN I'LL GET THE SAMSUNG S23. SO INSTEAD OF WAITING 7 YRS, I WILL BUY A NEW USED PHONE EVERY 3 YRS.
Of course the phone that's newer will functionally be better in most ways. Better display, better processor, better cameras. The question people need to ask though is whether or not it's actually worth spending the money once they have the two year old model paid off.
And whether it is environmentally responsible to ditch a 2-year old phone that will still get 2 more OS updates and 3 years of security updates for a shiny brand new thing.
Good video, but why did you show the brightness comparison with the S21 in dark mode? I feel like it would've been an easier comparison with both in the same mode
Lol I'm still on the S20. Looks the same as the S23, has more features like microSD, and the cameras have diminishing returns at this point. Also I still get monthly software updates and the phone is just as fast as it was 3 years ago.
Im just a bit sad that the display from the s20 waa way better that anything else came since that. 1440p vs 1080p even it doesnt make a lot of difference you still can see it.
I have an S21 Exynos 2100. Now I made the comparisons. 3Dmark wildlife average score 6600 40 FPS. In Geekbench 6, 1452 single and 3637 multiple scores were achieved. However, when shooting videos, it overheats and the battery drains very quickly, but the quality is great.
I wanted the better chip set. Also free upgrade... why wouldn't you? In 2 years we may get the BIG jump and ill be able to get a nice trade in value vs what i would get from a 4 year old phone.
I had an S21 for about two years. I dropped it a whole bunch of times. So I broke the front screen, the battery life was bad and it kept overheating. I just bought a refurbished S23 off Amazon for $500, but It looks brand new. After only a few days, I already like it a lot. It's better than my S21 indeed 👍
I had to upgrade from my S21 to the S23 due to issues with my charge port. I really wish I had my S21 back. Its sleeker and the screen is bigger. the S23 feels so clunky in comparison.
my goal was to show you exactly what I saw when I switched. not to butter it up. to show you exactly what I saw when I got my first reaction. that was the point of it. cheers, Ryan.
You don't know how much I've searched for a video like this. I also own the S21 and was thinking I made the wrong choice but I'll stick to it for a little more.
@@Mukatutu it has a better camera than the Google pixel 3a xl. Swipe keyboard and finger print scanner work better on the pixel 3a xl. Photo editors are the same except s21 can remove unwanted things in a image. That's a big plus. I still use a pixel 3 for astrophotography
I once had the same dilemma, should i upgrade my S21 to S23, because my S21 had some network problem. But once i tried the Zenfone 9, i made up my mind, i go with the Zenfone 9. The size is perfect, 2mm narrower than the S21 which doesnt sounds much but feels much better in hand, the battery life is way better than my old S21, and the back cover feels so nice to touch since i dont like using cases, and its made out of plastic just like the S21 so i dont have to worry about dropping it.
I switched to the Zenfone 9 for about 3 months after I reviewed it (hopefully you've seen our zen 9 review!). I loved it but I couldn't rely on the cameras as much as I can on my S21... So for family get-togethers and outtings to grab photos for my album, I switched back. But literally everything else about the zen 9 is amazing.
@@RealRyanMcLeod yes i couldnt agree more. The S21 camera is one of the best camera even till today standart. It shot really nice photos and that was one of the reason why it was very hard for me to ditch it. The weird 64mp tele lens also perform quite well tbh. With the Z9, the camera it kinda hit & miss, the over sharpening & the HDR can be too aggressive sometimes, but the night performance is a bit better than the S21 due to the higher megapixel & pixel binning tech from the IMX 766.
@@Mukatutu it was having a hard time connecting to one of the 4g channel band (the 2300 one) which is being use by my provider for high speed data transfer, making my s21 will lose 4g signal randomly every few minutes & i have to turn on & off the airplane mode to reset the connection
5:02 you put dark theme on s21 and you put no dark theme on s23 for anyone who doesn't know what dark mode it makes everything darker and as you can see the menu is in black while the light mode has it in white 😂 plus you even have different background photos 🤦🏿♀️🤷♀️ why do people do this they would show different background photos so they can't see a direct comparison and the background on the s23 has lighter colors while the s22 background photo is with darker shades of colors 🤣
Dropped my s21 on gravel and was living with a slowly spreading Crack for a year and finally decided to pay the $200 insurance claim for a replacement. Somehow I lucked out and got an S23 instead of a refurbished S21. Bit seeing a lot of difference, except it does seem to operate a bit quicker and more smoothly.
@@RealRyanMcLeod Just saying, generally. Im glad some tech channels at least sometimes say that changing a phone every 1-2 years is not necessary, but still...
The camera on the S21 is much better than in the S23 and S24, this is very strange for Samsung, especially evening photos, the difference is very big in favor of the S21. For those people who currently use S21, I do not recommend changing it to S23. I now have S23 and I'm very disappointed :((
As an iPhone 13 mini owner it’s so disappointing that there’s literally NO small Android flagships, none. It’s been compromise city since the early 2010’s, even Sony’s “Compact” series. How is Apple the only company that cares about good small phones?
They don't...unless you know where to buy a 14 mini that I don't. And the Zenfone 9 says 'hi'. I know, I know. Not the same. As someone who bought a 12 mini to have around for the novelty and then fell in love with it, I get it. But it can't be my main phone because it's just a little too small for media consumption imo. I bet the Zenfone 9 would bridge that gap.
@@ethancarey6611 most people are scared of the weak upgrade commitment of the Zenfone 9. The leaks on the Zenfone 10 tho... That thing is going to be a BEAST, a lot more expensive AND apparently it's gonna be bigger 😢
I change my phones every 2yrs when contract ends. Phones will still have market value by then, so easier to sell. Top-up & get new mobile with renewed contract. Currently having the S21. Probably will get the s23.
I keep my phone until is stops working . My last one I had forever and it was a mess trying to get a new one. This one is acting up so I went ahead and started to make the switch.
5:03 complaining about the S21 brightness quote...."literally made my old S21 feel like a dull and tarnished piece of trash in my hand". Dude.....S21 on dark mode, S23 on light mode😂. Its this a joke??
Im only upgrading because my teen needs a new phone and I could use 256gb instead of 128.. I get s23+, he gets my old s21. ;-) S21 still runs Fortnite and other games very well. The pics are quite good as well.
I had s8 as well. Hands down the best phone I've ever had design and usability wise. When I see someone with s8 nowadays I always amaze how beautiful it is
Thank you for your more than useful review.. I have anan1 Ultra 5g also from Verison and my phone has and continues to work well to the point of not neebeinganw phone, but I have to admit I saw the S23 and kinda wondered. I did not not tillill your review that the back camera area was different the my current 21. Still my 21 is doing what I need it to and it's paid otf I also didn't know about samsung warrieny so that GEM you dropped was very helped making my decision to stay with my current model. Also, like you I was considering a Pixal however most merchants don't accept Google pay or apple pay BUT they WILL accpet SAMSUNG PAY merchants like the US post office also Krispy Kreme doesn't take Apple pay just Google and Samsung and as you might have guess I am a big mobilel pay user, so that also played a deciding factor. But thank you again for you wonderful and VERY HELPFULL review. When it's my Samsung if finally ouf for the out then I will get a new Samsung phone
Same. S21 is peak Samsung. All the phones since the S21 are just incremental cosmetic upgrades, and some I don't care for. (I just don't like the S23. PERIOD) the S21 is where Samsung peaked.
*NEVER* buy a phoje in its release year. You will always be paying more than it's worth, like a sort of "novelty fee", just to own the latest toy in the store. I alays buy the phone in its second year, when there's a newer one available. Much cheaper than the newest for an insignificant amount of performance less. Sometimes the old one is even better than the new one bc samsung is constantly removing features from their phones. My old s5 had infrared, my s21 didn't even came with a charger.. I only buy new phones bc the batteries start to become crappy after a few years, but if you stick to the flagship models you're likely to never get lags or performance problems.
I have the s21 plus and don't see enough reason to switch to the S23 plus. Plus the screen is smaller, the battery is smaller. still no charger brick but i have the 25 watt fast charger already. No sd card and no 3.5 jack. I'll wait a while and get the s23 ultra when the price is lower. My s21 plus works great and still takes great pictures.
The S23 Ultra is the phone to beat this year. Really impressive in a lot of ways. But you're right, the price will have to come down substantially for most average buys to be into it. They do have some solid trade-in options, but still couldn't make me pull the trigger. Cheers, Ryan.
@@AndroidAuthority the s23 Plus has great cameras. I love the hundred zoom. It's real clear zooming in so there's no issue with that. But it will have to come down in price before I buy one. The s21 ultra was nice also but I would go for the s23 when the price is down
Ouch, that music at the beginning. I thought my chair was creaking and breaking. Then the music was turned up and it was out of tune and out of sync. Yikes, is this what music has become?
I have the S21 and was planning to get the S23 for battery issues but I got shocked when he says its almost the same so is the same for you or you are getting better longevity with the S23.
I have S21 for 3 years phone screen still good and original and i had to replace the back cover black to white as the black case broke i wanted to change to s23 but what was the point phone still good games run smooth im happy with it the amount of money you spend on a phone you will lose value after a year with samsung bringing out a new phone every time the S24 be out next year ill wait to get a new phone when this phone dies or i loose it or i break the screen
801 single core S21 Snapdragon ? My s21 exynos Europe version has 1411 single core and 3589 multi core on same geekbench 6.. i'm consiering moving to s23 because of battery .. kinda low performing now vs when it was new - coming from s9 buyed in nov 2018 and switched to s21 only because of battery life because camera side .. personally i think s9 was better than s21 (s21 buyed nov 2021, replaced battery on s9 and charging port because it was some how damage my cable and don't get fast charge anytime and after that i got wet port message and only wireless charge on s9 which is now at my mom - working but vs s21 kinda laggish performing - maybe because i'm now used to 120hz display on s21)
