I started watching around the time when it had around 800 episodes. I decided that I'd give it an honest shot. It's by far my favorite anime now but there's something that i wish i knew earlier. I feel that I went into the series with the wrong mindset, expecting the vs fights to be the climatic moments that I remember and think back to, and I was a bit disappointed until I realized that the moments that did that for me were the character interactions and epic portrayals. Luffy's first scream in episode 1 definitely made me cringe but it definitely gets better, in both sub and dub. Admittedly, the first chunk of the show feels villain-of-the-week-esque but it's really that Luffy, or whoever might be kicking ass on screen is just THAT guy. Characters are rarely forgotten and backstories are layered/intertwined throughout the series. The world is extremely fleshed out and everything is constantly moving forward. We're actively following Luffy and his adventure, but just because he's doing something doesnt mean that the rest of of the world halts, unlike the way it feels in Naruto where if the leaf village has an issue, it seems that the rest of the world is on pause. One Piece is definitely a slow burn at the start, but the way that everything gets layered is fantastic. My advice is to not worry about catching up, but just try to enjoy what's on the screen at the time. One Piece didn't suddenly get good at episode 1000 whatever. It's maintained its popularity throughout the entire run for good reason. There will come a time when you wish that you weren't close to catching up. I could go on forever and so I'll stop here.

@@T-Roy773 No problem, I have a lot of passion for this series. As for the manga, it's incredible. I keep up weekly now just to avoid spoilers haha. Personally I'll always pick the anime over the manga though because what animation adds is invaluable to my enjoyment. The voices, motion, music, color, etc. The anime has its issues for sure but at least for me, the pros outweigh any cons. As long as you're able to marathon and not wait a week between episodes, I think it's great. Catching up truly is a tragedy LOL.

What makes One Piece so special is the writing. While it boasts its extremely goofy and cartoonlike atmosphere, beneath it is a really rich story with very interesting character writing and worldbuilding. Everything that happens in one piece is set up for its insanely chaotic payoff moments which are littered throughout the story. It takes its time to really pay off though, but the journey to that point is still fun because the characters are all insanely funny. I have friends who loved every episode and friends who didn't like it until it really started getting good, but everyone has loved it nonetheless and everyone had a different favorite character. The first 50 episodes have not aged very well tho and are very boring, so I highly recommend watching the live action!
But if I'm being real, i recommend you read the manga instead of the anime. The manga is perfection, while the anime kind of waters it down, even though its telling the same story. There's a colored version of the manga online too that looks beautiful and much better than the anime. But the anime is still worth watching though if you don't wanna read all of that
I’ll take your advice on that and grind through every episode/ read manga. But I heard the story writing is even better than Naruto. You kinda said something similar to my friend nas, in the text message in the video. He said once it gets good your pretty much hooked. @@T-Roy773 As someone who grew up watching and then reading naruto week to week, i can confidently tell you that one piece is in a completely different league than naruto. Love all the homies in the leaf village but there's just no comparison because in one piece unlike most works of fiction, not just manga, every single set piece in this massive story is relatively important and pays off. Like don't get me wrong i LOVE naruto, but there r moments that don't make sense ya know like sasuke randomly summoning a bird outta nowhere lol and also characters that just get set up for no payoff aside from filler like rock lee and neji and Orochimaru and also they made kurenai fat in boruto which was unforgivable. One Piece has none of this, every single moment has either epic payoff or contributes largely to the characters' growth. Its also MORE than just a thousand episodes bc its one of the best series of all time to rewatch in my opinion and also to analyze bc again the writing is just so good. I will say that the anime has a LOT of filler tho, and highkey recommend reading the manga. You can read it in color online or by downloading simple comic and then downloading the volumes on comic codes, its soooooooooooooo much better tbh. I will also say that naruto definitely has better fights, but one piece is much more about the story and also still has good enough fights. The difference is that all of one piece's fights contribute to the larger story or to character growth in meaningful ways. I know ima sound like a fanboy d rider here but it really is the lord of the rings of shonen manga and the closest thing our generation will ever get to dragon ball. Whether you do the anime or manga, get ready for a great time! But again, highkey recommend you watch the live action, and then pick up at either episode 45 or chapter 96

The incredible thing about One Piece to me is the fact that while it is very goofy at times, it does end up tackling some relatively heavier/darker subjects and yet not feel overwhelmingly negative. The world building is problaby the best I've ever encountered in a piece of media and as someone that doesn't tend to get very emotional there are moments in the story that actually made me cry. One of the things I have definitely enjoyed the most though is the fact that the world is so expansive, varied and interesting that the community is basically making new theories every week. There's always the grasping for the next bit of information because there's bound to be things in the One Piece world that'll interest you enough that you want to know more about or figure out the secrets/mysteries. And that's honestly just part of the fun
Man I just finished the part where they defeated Captain Buffy and Nami agrees to be the navigator. So far I really like it! Favorite scene is the dog Shushu defending the pet store from that lion then ends up defending Luffy,Zoro, and Nami from the angry mob! I have watched many anime , started One Piece a month ago hearing that the manga has entered its final saga , have reached till Episode 650 it's worth all the hype. Don't be scared of its length it will keep you hooked , you'll want to watch one episode after another if you give it a try
i started one piece about a year ago and im already almost caught up... ep 997. best anime i've watched so far and my reasons are story building/ world building, great concepts/ power scale, and character interactions. bruh this show almost had me tearing up over a damaged boat in water 7, i was hooked at about ep 100, but i feel like for the most part the show always gets progressively better the more you watch.

I only last year started watching it. I am on episode 790 in the cake island arc. The show can be hit or miss at times and it is hard to get through that first season. Though there are some really good story beats in that season so don't skip. I think the most fun you get from the show is the craziness of the different islands. They show up to a new place and have to learn everything about it. Quite a few of the characters are fun too. I love Brooke... both his EN and JP voice actors are great. But it's an exploration show. Learning more about the world and just press the "I believe" button because most of it doesn't make sense initially. Overall it's fun and a good watch. Just a LOT to go through. Watch on your own time. Don't try to binge too much or you'll prolly get burned out fast.

So far 9 episodes in I really like Luffy. He kind of reminds me of Goku in a sense like he's goofy but he's actually pretty smart. I’d say once you get to a certain point in Dressrossa and definitely by Whole Cake Island to switch to the manga bc the pacing tends to go awol from that point on but it’s 100% worth engaging with One Piece either animated or paneled. The characters, the emotions, the world, the power systems, it’s all outstanding. You’re gonna have some laughs, feel like you want to cheer, scratch your head at mysteries, have your mind blown by reveals, and your heart stopped by the twists.

alright i was in the same boat 3 months ago but ive always heard of onepace which takes out all filler and combines multiple episodes in one. Im now in fishman island which is after the timeskip or 500+ episodes in and man of all anime ive seen, i can see why people put onepiece in their number one spot. so far being where im at its in my number 3 spot behind naruto and aot.(IM HALFWAY FINISHED) no other anime has this great of world building,adventure, and character development. you will love it
Yea I seen a lot of people talk about One Pace, and recommended that over CrunchyRoll to avoid the filler. But if I skip filler will I miss out on anything important? To me, One Piece feels like a lived in world with adventure waiting around every twist and turn. Every island is built by Oda in such an intentional way and has so much thought and care put into it. Yes it has its lows, but the consistent high quality out balances the lows. Personally, I’d recommend the manga as it includes things the anime doesn’t like cover stories and the fan questions that the author answers at the back of most chapters. For the anime, One Pace is a must. It basically cuts out all of the filler and make it much more watchable

If I could change one thing about how I started watching One Piece, I would slow down and take my time more. When I started I just wanted to catch up to where my friend was at in the series so I sped through most of it until that point. Looking back I wish I wouldn't have rushed through a lot of the arcs, because as much as I love the show already, I feel like I would've had an even better experience if I had just taken my time more. Don't stress about how long it is, just enjoy the ride.

One piece is that good. It really is a fictional work on the level of stuff like the odyssey, the epic of gilgamesh, and king arthur, and it's text form will probably be passed down for years. That said, just like every book, it's not for everyone. There's no reason to try and force yourself to get into it if it's not grabbing you. We all have our own tastes and needs at the end of the day
Been watching the show when it was around episode 380 or so when i did carch up. Honestly, the moral values and dives into trauma with the feeling of prevailing through it are special. Its not the goriest series but its got some blood here and there, and if youre looking for things like corrupt politics, youll get a taste of it by episode 3 and it all keeps rolling throughout the series. Lets just say that i believe the hype is true, as a person who hated one piece because of the original 4 kids dub, giving it a chance was probably one of the best decisions i ever made.

The amount of times I've called myself dumb for hating on OP before I even gave it a chance is immeasurable. I started watching OP when the anime hit episode 1000. I seen the hype and thought to myself 'bro... there's no way that watching THAT many episodes of an anime is even remotely enjoyable." Here I am some time later all caught up with the anime and waiting every weekend to watch the next episode lol. I can also confidently say with my whole heart that 1100+ episodes isn't nearly enough!

It took me 3 attempts to watch One Piece, but I'll never look back. It's a masterclass in character writing and worldbuilding, and will be held alongside works like LOTR and classic Star Wars. 1000 episodes will melt away and you'll wish there were 1000 more. If you're not sold by the end of the prologue, seek medical assistance

@T-Roy773 it was a goofy dumb anime with an unusual artstyle and the occasional piece of weird dubbing. I was further along with Naruto and Bleach, which were both at their high points, so I was probably expecting another combat anime that hits the ground running. It was still the 4Kids dub when I first tried, so there is that. Eventually, I found the Funimatiom dub and dismissed it a few episodes in. At one point, I found myself in a content drought and had the time and lack of alternatives to give it a real college try, and fell in love. The artstyle is endearing to me now, the dumb goofiness is appreciated in the bleak setting, and the weird dubbing is no longer an issue. I haven't been back to check, but I swear he was constantly going on about "comrades," it was really weird. In any case, enjoy the journey. There's a high probability that you'll become a One Piece fan, and I can only apologise for the inconvenience that brings. So long as you remember, it's a Big 3 so is going to have its pacing issues in places, you'll have a great time. It can be annoying at times, but when Oda cooks, he COOKS. We don't love it in spite of irritations, but in part, because of them. When that annoying laugh is finally silenced, the gratification is real. Even if you do give up on it, give the episodes around 1062 and 1071 a watch before you check out entirely. That's not for One Piece, it's for Toei. Those animators pulled double shift and used their own blood for the reds, I'm telling you. (Not researched). If you enjoy animation, you'd do yourself a disservice to miss those episodes. Warner Bro should get some credit too, they helped produce it for reasons that will be apparent when you get to it. If you do stick with it, I recommend holding off til you get there. They're a little spoilery if you're completely unfamiliar with the show, and you'll appreciate it all the more.

@@T-Roy773 mostly the same in some cases they offer more context in both of the mediums I think Nolans backstory is better in the manga than the anime . But the anime believe it or not has some cannon filler that helps with context and some of the episodes are actually just cover stories (oda puts panels of other stories on the covers of different chapters)
