During an argument with Ant on the show Opie said something along the lines of. I could leave an do another show or something else tomorrow. Ant told him No you can't. Truer words have never been spoken.
@@mrmoofle Opie was actually amazing in the 90's-2003ish, after they got fired from public radio and had to go satellite he turned into a bitter asshole and it was never the same.
I was watching Opie's livestream, walking around Manhattan the other day, and someone said, "What's Tik Tok?", and I typed, "Tik Tok is the sound that Opie hears in his head every day, as his 60th birthday draws ever nearer". To his credit, Opie replied, saying "Good one".
Opie's wife will wait till the kids are out of the house and then take off with half. Opie will leave NYC and co-manage his brothers restaurant and try to hold court with the diners for his livestream. His wife and kids will never be mentioned again. He'll insist it's the happiest he's ever been.
Opie has mortgages on his apartment in Manhattan and house in the Hamptons...AND kids in private school... with NO INCOME that money he saved is gonna be gone quick
I don't know about that. They may have been making a few million dollars a year each on O&A for at least a few years. Let's say he saved and invested just 10 mil from the O&A days. Over the next 10 years that would have turned into 20 mil. He could live off 2 million dollars a year and still not "lose" money or go through his savings, and that's assuming he didn't add to that investment, and that he spends crazy amounts of money on his wife, kids and homes. If he's not a fool he should be good for life even if he spends a lot more than the average person every single year. He shouldn't ever need any other income.
That's the great thing about a massive penthouse apartment: everyone gets their own wing. They can still all have the same address on paper, but almost never have to interact..
I would pay genuinely good money to be a fly on the wall watching him interact with the wife. I'm trying to imagine the psychological profile of a woman who might find Ope funny, charming, relatable, empathetic, just generally nice...and I can't do it. He's literally un-lovable. I know she comes from money, so I have to imagine that she is just a dope- like next-level dumb- and can't comprehend how awful he is, and just kind of rolls with it one Wednesday afternoon pedicure at a time. That's the caveat with Ope; as a "guys guy" he's the worst of the worst...but he's not a good guy, either. He's awful to people. He literally has no redeeming qualities.
When kids are in private school, the parents often have WAY MORE incentive to want their kids to make friends than the kids themselves do. At a certain point they realize that as an unemployable former radio shock jock, they are near the bottom of the financial totem pole among the rich kids. I'm sure Opie would just LOVE IT if his kids were to make friends with the Rockefeller kids, or a Kennedy or a Bush kid, I bet he'd even be happy if OJ (Opie Junior) made friends with Baron Trump. Or maybe Mrs. Opie is holding onto the hope someone makes a Real Househusbands of Manhattan reality series. That'll put him back on top....
I have wondered this before, what does Opie actually do for money? Unless he invested it well (or, as Ant suggested, just doesn't spend anything) those New York taxes are bound to chip away (wassat?) at the money he has left.
He probably gets a regular dividend check on his stock investments, but it depends on how well stock market is doing at the moment. I knew one millionaire who was getting like thirty grand every quarter in stock dividends. They would just send him a check. I think he had about twelve million to his name and was investing with Baird. Opie might manage to make his money last, but his expenses are pretty big. Raising kids is very expensive.
I love that opie calls his "show" the Opie Radio Podcast, its not on the radio and its not a podcast. And he's 60 years old and still goes by Opie. He has like 6 fans, its insane that he still puts this out there. He probably has no friends so this is the only time he gets to talk
I know what ur saying but theres a few huge differences, those jocks had jobs, co-hosts,and an audience, opie is a 60 year old man that still calls himself Opie, and he calls his "show" the opie radio podcast and he's not on the radio and this isnt a podcast lol
he was always a radio host hack, from the beginning. exactly like the people they'd mock on jocktober. seriously the only difference was ant, jimmy and his comedian friends. the soundboard, his corny ass humor, the callers etc.. he loved to shit on mancow but mancow could actually be funny
In the old shows whenever it was brought up how much Opie paid for someone's services ( like when Club Soda picked up a TV and took it to Opies on the train) he would always dance around the answer and say I paid him a few bucks. Also when Patrice was on, they all would bet on something, they all put in their $$ except Opie. He'd always borrow 10. Just a few things that made him unbearable besides being unfunny and a complete dolt.
opies "oh ive only got 5 lously dollers on me...dollers dollersss. dollerssss." bit was a killer every time and you cant tell me otherwise. just listen to how everyone starts talking over him towards the end. thats how you know youve got charisma.
Anthony always said that Opie was frugal as hell. So I bet he’s got both properties paid off; but there’s monthly maintenance for the apartment, house in Hamptons, etc. Opie is a paradox.
Karl nailed it. Almost Nobody is rich enough to maintain an affluent lifestyle after they stopped bringing in the income that got them there. Especially with a wife and kids 😎. He's gonna have a stroke from the stress.
Cash poor, by his own admission. Plenty of expensive real estate but low liquidity. His wife won't let him sell either the NYC condo or Hamptons house. Cups up! Cheerzzzzzzzzzzse!
Opie has a wife and children that he could be preoccupied by and engaging with but yet he is happy when a stranger calls him buttercup? That's very telling
If my math is at least in the ballpark, he's spent about 6 million in residential real estate, located in some of the highest tax locations on Earth. I know he invested heavily in the restaurant and that was going well for many years, no idea how that factors in month-to-month. I'd assume he's somewhere between 5-8M in his portfolio, and he's a stupid boomer so you know he just invested it all in basic boomer index funds/hedge funds using the 4% rule. If these numbers are ballpark, yes, he's way over-extended in real estate. I think the fact that he's still taking superchats and unironically complaining about parking fees is not an attempt to connect with the everyman (that's too nuanced for Ope anyway). I think things are genuinely tight financially, particularly in light of the impending market crash that everyone knows is coming. The problem is he cant' downsize, as those homes are psychological landmarks for his self-worth. Obviously his wife will leave when the kids turn 18, so it will be interesting to see where he winds up financially.
He does the show this early in the morning to a) justify the low views and b) because he has to get to work selling ads over the phone. Hey, technically it's still a radio gig
I’d bet he’s convinced his wife he has a real, viable podcast that is supporting the family so that he can keep up his delusion of still being a broadcaster.
I would bet that Opie is still extremely rich. He made tens of millions in radio and satellite. I'm sure he has an insane portfolio as well. And he was always known to be a cheap skate, so I'm sure he saved most of his money.
People remember and miss Patrice O'Neal. People talk about Anthony and laugh with Jim but nobody and I mean nobody says a word about Opie because he is forgettable.
Ope was the hole on his own show n he was conscious of it - so constantly trying not to be, which just made the attempt to not be a hole that much more excruciating as a listener
Opie kids, who might be teenagers by now, must hate him. You know he uses that radio voice at home, and they notice that money getting tight and dad's hanging out with doggggieee at the beach instead of working.
definitely has a woah is me complex. The prices have gone up everywhere, not just New York City. As always prices will always be at a level that sellers can get away with, if consumers react to prices being too high by not buying certain products, the prices will adjust/come down. A lot of items people purchase they can do without. I have already made a lot of adjustments in my own spending (not buying certain items, or using it less), this includes one of the few regular pleasures I enjoy which is coffee. I will just switch to cheaper brands.
“Oh! I gotta go wake the kids up!” Lolllzzzz. Opie, they have iPhone 14s, fully equipped w an ALARM….poor guy posturing for audience, those kids in Philly
For years, in the U.K., ‘Opie and Anthony’ were pitched as young blood, sharper rivals to Stern. I started listening to O&A ten years ago and though “ok, Cumia is a great comedy riffer but this Opie guy is doing and giving nothing” History has proved me dead-on.
I used to think Gregg could make a comeback because he definitely has the talent and the work ethic even without Anthony and Jim, but at this point I think he's too far gone. Depressing stuff
Isn't he famously frugal? Long after he was rich he was still driving older cars that had issues among other things. He made millions of dollars, and invested tonnes of it, just living off that I guess. Ant was more of the one that blew all of his money on stuff.
I’m telling you, a lot of libs who don’t want to admit they’re really white flighting have gone to Delaware because it’s not a red state but supposedly is pretty cheap by comparison to shitholes like LA and NYC. Opie should just sell his LI house, whatever stake he has in that apartment, just liquidate his assets and move to a suburb there that isn’t too far from a beach. He can send his kids to a safe public school… sad how a (former) multimillionaire is now both broke and henpecked. Wouldn’t it be ironic if his wife divorces him, gets custody of the kids, possession of the house and apartment, then Opie ends up homeless and someone stomps on his cake?
It really amazes me that people actually think Opie could be poor. I bet Opie still has his lunch money from the 3rd grade: while Anthony was spending money on guns and cars, and other toys, Opie had one vehicle that he drove til the wheels fell off. When he went oh little vacations, he stayed with friends instead of getting a hotel. He’s literally the cheapest person on earth! …not that it’s a bad thing
isn't she one of those trophy wives? she probably doesn't do the whole "cook" and "clean" thing. his kids are probably closer to their nanny than their mother...
If you're an adult, and each month you pay your bills, and all your account does month after month, year after year, is go down, it's a major psychological stress. The guy isn't retirement age and I doubt he has enough for the rest of his life at the level he wants to be. If you make a million dollar and spend a million and one dollar, you're poor. Opie spends more than he makes, that much is clear.
Kevin we'll find something to complain about on any person that they do a show about. He will always find something to complain about no matter what anybody says he'll complain about it
The opster is stealing from Ronnie B as you stated but also from Ant's ex mother in law, judy I think. When the opster lived with her in Boston they would tell stories of her saying hello, good morning and other shit to the river. Good old no right turn judy
He's so stuck in the 90s, he honestly doesn't understand how everyone could nail the fact that he robbed "cheerss" from Ronnie B. "They'll never know, these radio listening plebs"
I'm cracking up dude - Karl listening to you scream about all the podcast you do and that you actually hate the subjects is too funny. Opie just wants his face seen. He's always stunk. Like John, Opie thinks he was a star -:eff Opie
I can't understand how opie was on radio the way he talks is like scraping a chalkboard oh now I remember Anthony he wouldn't have any houses if it wasn't for him
Opie probably has about 3 or 4 liquid with his house and apartment paid off. His house is probably worth 3x more than what he paid for it..he'll eventually sell it and he'll be just fine
I disliked Opie for ruining the O&A but to dive into his personal life ,talk about his kids , money and make up lies and overreacting is just petty and for me he looked the better guy with you reactions
@@fatinthehat2024 who knows if he's truly happy with his wife and kids hopefully he is I'm just talking about career wise he broadcasted to probably a million a day now he's lucky to get 200 that's gotta hurt his professional pride since he's been spinning records since 18 cumia has a network for the last 8 years opie lucky anyone watches Opies career died when Ant got fired butter cup
@@fatinthehat2024 I don't know where you get your facts anthony has never been in jail he pleaded guilty to disorderly person which is a misdemeanor and went to rehab to look good for court case which resulted in a misdemeanor disorderly person charge and $500 fine which was expunged a year later meaning there's no criminal record he was booked and released same day didn't spend one night in jail check your facts butter cup
He should have appreciated his good luck and bloated income while it lasted. His industry is dead. No one will ever get Stern money again, unless they are very different and unique, which Opie will never be. He should be downsizing and cutting his losses, but that huge ego won’t allow it.
Opies been stealing Ronnie b's drawn out "S" for the last 14 years. It's just gotten worse and worse as the years go on and now opie has no one to call him out on it live
Great job as usual. You are the best. Excited !!!! New Harrison Young video just came out !!!!! His tie and shirt collar are hilarious….a little dishevelled looking
