Please, we have enough problem drawing a tag in our own state, then if we put it out on u tube !!! Between wolves locked gates and new hunters covered in Sitka gear, please (51 year resident)
Hey Corey, good information there for non residents. I wanted to mention that if a person buys the license for otc and or a preference point they should consider applying for a sheep or goat hunt. Not sure of the tag costs but straight lottery for those tags ( no points). Fred
NE Oregon resident here...and you nailed our biggest problem...bull to cow ratio....smh. Oregon really has some issues that is causing it and unfortunately a lot is related to ODFW and overselling tags. Beautiful places and full of elk habitat but populations are only going to be dropping....so I guess this might be our good ole days...sad. Go Hunt looks amazing...love your info Corey!
Important factor is point creep and the VERY limited number of tags for NR in OR. OR is an opportunity state. OTC is the name of the game, it is totally not worth the time or money dfor a NR to apply in OR. I have lived here all my live and hunted elk 35yrs archery. Those top 3 units will take a NR 16+pts and climbing, NOT WORTH YOUR TIME OR $. Hunt CO or WY and your be way better off., Being totally honest here! POINT CREEP IS KILLING NR chances. NOT WORTH IT! The NE units are NOT worth your time.
Hey Cory you should do a new video for Oregon. Things changed alot this last year. Odfw is a bunch of idiots. All they care about is the wolves that are over running the state. They went to draw in a bunch more units. Thanks for your videos there very helpful
Also you CANNOT trust the B to C ratios for this state, they DO NOT get accurate counts, its fuzzy math at best. OTC it WAY better opportunity as the draw units are not worth the time. TONS of land one can hunt OTC archery but success is LOW.
Great video Cory. As an Idaho resident who hunts Oregon, Cory is correct in that there are a lot of hunters. We consistently plan around the people. And the wolves have moved into Oregon......And that's bad!!! Oregon will soon be the New Idaho. Remember Oregon is about as liberal as they come. If you know of wolf lover please ask them to move to California. I'm with Cory about looking at Colorado and I might throw out there - Wyoming.
Love the videos you do Corey, but darn man you showed our family hunting spot on RU-vid bro. To everyone watching this video Elk left Oregon and moved to Colorado.
Thanks for sharing info about Oregon and always being very thorough about the process from using GoHunt to figure out what could be one's best chance to walking us through the license application process. I am hopefully that my Army bro and I will be able to do an OTC hunt in your home state of Idaho this fall. I look forward to that video at the end of this month. Good luck this year Corey, I am glad that you got a leftover tag for MT so you can hunt with Randy Newberg in the rifle season.
Great video Corey. very clear and informative. Not sure why there is some negative comments when all you did was trying to help hunters on the process of applying and talk about over the counter opportunities. There is always selfish people that think they are the only owners of the public land. Thanks for your time and excellent content of your videos.
Thank you Corey, Love listening to what you have to say. I have hunted archery in Oregon for 44 years and seen a lot of changes in our regulations and the game populations. Oregon Fish and Game is struggling and our hunting opportunities are getting more fragmented each year. However, archers do have very good opportunities hear if you get out of the truck and laydown tracks. I will tell all that every one of the units in Oregon have special little places that can be surprisingly good. Its hard work even on an easy day so if you wont easy hunting this state is not for you. Also everyone should know that when the day comes that Oregon opens up wolf hunting, get a tag it will be wonderful hunting. I am now getting old and slow but I am still staking them up in Oregon. Pleas come hunt our state take an elk and leave us some $. Good luck on your west side hunt buddy.
This year they have a phone app and you can buy your tag with your phone. It’s a paperless and not 100 on how well it will work but I did tag a turkey with it already this year
