I really like Orijen I use the exact ones you showed. A 22 pound bag lasts me almost 2 months for a 60 pound Australian Shepherd. ***Remember it’s more nutrient dense than the cheaper stuff, so you feed less. I feed my boy about 1 1/2 cups/ day. He’s doing great. He loves the food. You can actually smell the difference- smells like food. Yes, it’s expensive, but I’d rather pay for the food, than pay vets. I do without something else to buy it. I don’t work for Orijen or get paid to say nice things about this food(I wish). It took me awhile to find a good kibble. My dog’s coat is beautiful- thick and shiny. That tell’s me a lot.
Actually I've been feeding my boy Orijen for a few years now, I do switch around, that 22 lb bag lasts about 5 weeks, he eats 2 cups a day 65 lb Olde English Bulldogge
We feed our Rottweiler (5 Months) and Cane Corso (3 Months) the Orijen Puppy Large Breed and they absolutely love it.... When you open the bag, you can smell that it is different than all other kibbles.... thanks for diving into the ingredients!
I've used Diamond, Victor Pro and Inukshuk. Diamond and victor he kept getting a bad allergic reaction to it. He didn't a bad reaction to Inukshuk and wasn't eating as much. But when I put him on Orijen all of that skin problems went away and he loves it.
Both Orijen and Acana were acquired by Mars Inc. You can bet quality will go down to allow for bigger profits. I like to use the salt divider when checking ingredients. Anything listed AFTER salt is less than 1% of that ingredient in the bag. Synthetic vitamins are all very iffy and unfortunately only a couple brands out there don't use them, Carna4 and Natures logic. If you can't feed raw and have to feed kibble those are the best two options.
They already did. Whenever you see a brand changing its packaging, it's never only for the sake of having something new/fresh for our eyes. They also changed their formula
this happened to me. a month and a half ago my boys' stomaches were in such bad shape. got refunded and turned to Carna4. I'm convinced Carna 4 really outshines champion pet food...
@@OldskoolHiFi. I woke up one of my boys who had completely turned his kennel into a swamp. He was so embarrassed and ashamed that he didn’t hold it in over night. After that both my dog’s rear ends were faucets for a week. After vet fees, stool samples, anti biotics, just to hear that there was no infection or nothing to diagnose. It had to be diet related. After the probiotics, I gave them another scoop of Orijen. And the diarrhea returned. So Orijen was definitely the cause.
Quality must have already been affected 😭 nothing has changed in the last couple of months but my huskies' skin has freaked out! He is so itchy and sore all of a sudden and the only culprit seems to be his food. I'm so bummed because Orijen used to be the only thing to work for him and now it isn't.
I feed my yorkie Orijen puppy for now. I use the topper and she love the tundra. As long as everything stay consistent I will continue to stay with Orijens. Price don’t matter. If I can eat good everyday my dog can too
I live on a farm with a few different houses on it. My dog had puppies a year ago and 2 of them stayed with me and 1 went with my friend out here. He feeds his a Costco grain free brand, my 2 have always been on orijin original and tundra. They are significantly larger than the other puppy. Idk if that means anything but it's worth noting.
I’m not only concerned about the ingredients in the kibble, but how it’s processed. Unless the bag states it’s oven baked, it’s extruded. I prefer to give my dogs the least processed foods I can. And I and Love and You is a brand that offers oven baked kibble prepared in small batches, and the ingredients are really good as well. I also like that it’s coated in dehydrated bone broth, which encourages adding water to the kibble and making it tastier for my pups. I have mixed it with freeze-dried raw to boost the protein content, as kibble will usually have more carbs than anything else. I am slowly getting my dog off dry food tho - and I am switching to a mix of dehydrated and freeze-dried raw.
Definitely agree Fam raw will always be my number one choice but this is perfect for the pet owner with one maybe two dogs cause it’s definitely better healthier for a kibble but I see the price is high obviously they have a way better product and it does cost for better ingredients for sure …. And if you want more time with your pet always try and give the best quality anything….and let’s get those likes and shares up Fam definitely worth the content 💯💯💯
If you think that’s expensive, then don’t look at how much the Orijen Tundra! It’s still made in Canada and not in KY. There very best dog food but it’s a $140
Can confirm that the Orijen 6 fish ingredients has changed. The mackerel and herring are the same, but the salmon has been replaced by a higher amount of monkfish, pilchard has been replaced by Acadian red fish, whole hake has been added. And thats just the start.
Orijen is the best aside from feeding raw. Also, I notice you’re selecting the bags that say Amazing Grains. They have grain- free versions where more than half those ingredients are not in it. Making it much healthier. Yes, it’s a little pricey but Petco has a program where you buy 9 bags and get a free 10th bag. Also, it’s all about how important your dogs health is to you I suppose. I feed my two cats and XL bully Orijen wet and dry food. Wet in the morning, dry at night. You should check out the ingredients of the wet food as well. All in all, it runs me about $250 a month to feed two cats and an XL bully an exclusively Orijen diet.
There we go Raul! We been waiting on it. I do feel that orijen is the best kibble out there but the price kills it. Who can afford to feed one dog at 3-400 bucks a month. That's INSANE!
@Gouda217 1 bag lasts me 3 weeks (4 cups a day) The food is so rich, the portions are smaller. Still ridiculously expensive. If I had more than 1 dog I’d definitely pick something less expensive.
@@gouda2177 9 month old male XL that’s currently 90 lbs. There’s literally a guide on the bag and on Orijen’s website that tells you how much kibble to feed a puppy according to how much the puppy weighs. 4 cups at day once they’re at 65 lbs. or more and the bag lasts 3 weeks. I’m assuming you feed your dogs some trash kibble so you have to give them a lot more food to make up the nutritional difference.
I feed my 70lb dog with origin and a bag last him 3 weeks. His vet says he's at the perfect weight too. Also the normal bag of orijen is $90 which helps.
my Olde English Bulldogge/Staffordshire terrier mix make is on the 6 fish, with some Bully Max & joint supplements. We cook chicken livers, gizzard ,whole whole raw egg, sweet potato & mix with the orijen. My dogs 52lbs of pure action. Hits a sleeve like a 100lb American Bulldog. He's been on it his whole life. Perfect coat & a high drive athletic dog. But it cost me probably about 500 a month to feed him & 2 patterdale /Manchester mixes. I have no kids. I got multiple streams of income & so does my wife so it is what it is. What I spend in feed & supplements I save 10 fold in vet bills
I think if one were feeding raw, this dog food might not be a bad option if they had to board their dogs, were traveling, or were in a situation like the hurricanes hitting Florida, where getting actual raw might be difficult or inconvenient. Acana is also an option, similar ingredient panel as Orijen, but a little bit cheaper.
You can freeze dry the food, or buy the ingredients freeze dried so they can eat more normally. Feeding a dog or human foods their body is not used to during stressful situation would cause more stress… and digestion issues.
A 22 lb bag of Orijen is NOT the same as a 22 lb bag of other kibble. Orijen is way more nutrient dense, so you dog has to eat less kibble to get the same calories and nutrients. If you fed your 100 lb dog that entire 22lb bag of Orijen every week, your dog is going to get fat as hell, haha. Keep that in mind when you're looking at the pricing versus cheaper kibble with lots of filler.
One 120 pound presa canario will through one 22 pound of orijen, in about 20-25 days, just shy of a month. I made the switch to essence because it's a 25 pound bag, and priced about the same; maybe even better quality as well, it's just hard to find.
Thank you for posting this video. I agree orejin is expensive but it’s definitely high quality kibble. You feed less of this kibble because it’s higher quality. And for my pups I add home cooked food to their diet daily with their kibble.
Orijen/Acana have already started cheapening the product…sad…$$$$$$ Recently the makers of Zignature - Pet Global- began making Essence…low heat like Orijen…high protein, excellent produce…I have switched to this…🥰
I started my bully off on this and I could tell you I’ve never seen a dog look better on feed, his stool is A1, coat A1, energy off the chain. Acana is cheaper and is the same ingredients.
I feed my mini Alaskan Klee Kai the Orijen grain-free Regional Red kibble, mixed with Instinct grain free canned food. He loves this food. Thank God he only weighs 14 lbs…! He only eats 3.5-4 ounces of food twice a day. ❤
My Klee Kai didn’t like Orijen for some reason. Basically tried all the brands tbh. Gonna try carna4 or essence. I tried doing frozen raw and freeze dried but it’s so pricey even though my standard is 18lbs
We recently switched to Acana High Protein/Single Kibble. 6 of the flavors are completely chicken free. It has a high caloric content with very few fillers, so we add sweet potatoe, Rice, and some beef liver too, Along with a multivitamin.
Be advised--Champion Petfoods who produce Acana was sold to Mars 'Petcare' in November 2022. Mars makes some of the worst pet 'food' on the market. Re Acana/Orijen, Mars will almost certainly be moving to increase sales, and reduce costs. I would keep a close eye on their quality moving forward. I have stopped using all Champion products permanently.
Orijen had my dog smelly. Her poop and breath was foul. She has a very sensitive digestive system. She is allergic to poultry and potato. The food worked for her but I had to stop. Switched to wholehearted beef and pea. She loves it! No allergies anymore and gained weight.
Thank you soooo much you are everything to me for my dog, it's been about 6 weeks now ive been on your channel seeking and gaining knowledge. Thanks ZSIMAH PRESSURE will for sure be PRESSURE PRESSURE through your teachings BLESS YOU, SHE watches too
Raw is def best way to go. I watched my dogs energy levels deplete when he is on kibble. He sleeps better with raw and he stool is not difficult for him.
I have seven large dogs. I try to feed them the best I can afford. Right now it's evolve salmon and sweet potato. If you have any suggestions I will appreciate it.
I have a 100 lb DDR Shepherd as a working dog. She has been fed Orijen all her life. She will be 10 years old in a couple of months but you wouldn't know it by her health and energy level. She only eats 2 cups of this food daily which means a 28 lb bag last for about 5 weeks, so I believe your estimate of 4 bags monthly is a bit off. You can find Orijen at much cheaper prices at other businesses. I only pay $87/bag for Orijen Fit & Trim. Unfortunately, since Mars has acquired this food, I will be switching because they will more than likely change to less desirable and cheaper ingredients. PLeASE READ: I no longer feed Orijen. The family-run company has now been sold to Mars. I have now switched to a different brand.
I can't believe your 100lb dog only eats 2 cups a day...my 65 lb pit eats 3 cups a day of the Orijen Puppy in the purple bag, plus he usually gets a chicken foot in the evening and maybe some yogurt with blueberries. He also gets raw, meaty bones about twice per week. He's not overweight at all.
@@ThatFatMom Whether you believe me or not, she eats 2 cups a day. She'll be 10 years old this month and she's been eating like that ever since she became an adult.
Ive kept bullys for 20 years and for a long time diamond was my go too but as of late i been using Victor and my dogs love it also used taste of wild all good in my opinion but sure theres better out there
mars also owns royal canine, which is one of the 5 WSAVA approved foods that everyone now claims are the best, so i dont think just because Mars bought out champion immediately means you need to stop using their foods. Personally, i am switching to Orijen amazing grains from the original that has some possible links to DCM with the peas/lentils. Seems to be the best of boths worlds. Keep the Orijen quality, eliminate the ingredients controversy.
WATSUP! Love the vids bud! So my American Bully is Standard Lilac TRI great pedigree..dual registered.. amazing bloodline. He is 5 just turned 5. I have had to go through so much cash and headaches to find him a great food man oh man. Before I bought him I planned on feeding him raw and I did but I didn't have the best insight on how to do so I started switching it up buying store bought Instinct brand Raw..that got expensive and it sucked having to unthaw beforehand and I began to believe it was dangerous. Anyways I switched from kibble to kibble throughout the years landed on bullymax for 2 years then after more research I didn't feel he was getting the best so I switched to honest kitchen which he loved but no gains actually lost weight switched to Stella and Chewy kibble got some weight gain but he was losing that super dope shiny coat and was getting those teary eyes more often. Just made the switch to Orijen w grains and no more teary eyes great soft coat amazing color is back but still am not seeing gains. But I love this kibble and I make my own topper (Organic bone broth, organic pumpkin, EVOO, a lil tumeric, a lil black pepper, and a lil cinnamon) I heat it then let it cool down to pour over kibble. I'd love to hear any advice or comments you would have for me and also would it be safe and would I see gains if I started giving him the NuVet pills I see in your vids? I want you to understand I am not in the breeding game I just absolutely love my bully and want him to live a very healthy Lifestyle and a long life. With feeding him Orijen and my homemade topper he's getting a great nutrition in my opinion and zinc is the only additive In orijen.. I'm saying this bc I don't want to have too much of a good thing by adding the supplement from NuVet you recommend. You think? Thanks bull fam for your contribution to our Bully society!!! 🤜🤛 P.S. Has any of your dogs experienced INTERDIGITAL CYSTS?...it's like swelling between the front paw toes. My vet prescribed cephalexin and I used it when he was still on Stella Raw coated kibble but since I switched to Orijen they seem to have gotten noticeably better but not gone. Any advice?
"100lb dog would go through a 22lb bag in about a week"......LoL! C'mon man, I know you are against kibble, but that bag would last a month at the minimum if you are feeding according to the recommended amount from the manufacturer. Most people vastly overfeed their pets, so, stick to the recommendation and exercise your sweet babies! Now with that said, I have no doubt that feeding your dogs a raw diet that you put together is better overall than kibble. But, those of us who are trained K9 Handlers (former Gov't K9 Handler here) can attest that all of the Gov't dogs are on kibble, and they are straight up athletes, working harder than most people do every week, and they thrive on kibble and live long happy/healthy lives. This kibble looks amazing IMHO and I might just give it a try at some point. I'm currently switching to Open Farm GoodBowl, which isn't as top end as the Orijen, but it's very high quality for about half the price.
Orijen is much more dense than others. 100lb dog get 2 1/3 cups per day. The food last just as long if not longer. Great for grazing dogs too who don’t eat a lot.
Re your comments on feeding Orijen to a 100 lb dog--to say that a 22.5 lb bag would last 1 week is WAY off the mark. A 22.5 lb bag contains around 88.5 cups of food. Using that bag in a week would be feeding over 12 cups a day. The recommended feeding guideline is around 4 cups/day for a 100 lb dog depending on activity level. A 22.5 lb will last a 100lb dog around 3.5 weeks. I fed Orijen for years, but have dropped all Champion products since their sellout to Mars 'Petcare'. I now feed a 50/50 mix of First Mate dry, and Big Country Raw.
Raw is best but if you doing kibble feed from lowest to high valu pack black bag ,diamond, purina, victor these all used mostly for sporting dogs that are active but all of them good feed I know most bully breeders go for bulk
If you're properly feeding your dog raw, it'll never be cheaper than kibble. It'll always be significantly more expensive. Don't get me wrong, raw is better. But financially speaking, if you're not going to feed raw spend the money on a quality kibble.
Please do a bag of Muenster millings ocean fish. I believe it’s the best kibble brand only sold in their company not in local stores. And underrated because ppl don’t actually do their research. They also provides customize add ons of your choice. Probiotics/coconut /salmon oil etc.
Man I saw this food that was in a Walmart fridge and it had 14% crude protein and 11% crude fat. All the ingredients were natural. Not sure how good is that.
Been waiting for this video Fam! I feed the Origen Tundra unfortunately it’s $129 a bag. I refuse to feed any other kibble till I can get him back on raw. I fed him raw 8 weeks to 3 years then C19 hit. He’s only 60lbs and goes through 1 1/2 bag a month. He has serious allergies and gulps everything which has led to a few scares so I’m looking for a grinder before switching back.
Those brands have to make their money and balance out cost. Along the way of course sacrificing quality. Best bet is to learn what is best for your dog. I know not everyone likes to prep raw food but it’s an undefeated option. Just like home cooking vs fast food.
Really sucks that orijen got bought out by mars… I feed my German shepherd and yellow lab orijen original grain free and a little bit of acana with grains. Will be buying my last 3 bags tomorrow and then switching to a raw diet.
Man an other great video. I would like to tank you for the Barf diet video that you made and basically save my dog. We cannot process any starches self diagnose trough trail and error my vet simply robed me out of 3000 $ with no diagnose . Now we are on raw beef only and we are saved. The dog gained weight we had almost instant miraculous recovery and we follow your recommendation of 5% body mass. The dog consumes slightly above 3 pounds of raw beef a day including bone marrow when available no bones just meat and this is it nothing else my vet try to sell me vitamins for " balanced diet" I asked her how often does wolf in the wild take vitamins ?
Well I will say wolves in the wild along with all predators do take vitamins in the form of liver from the prey that they eat. Unfortunately today a lot of our meats and poultry have been treated with hormones and such. So if you like to add a multivitamin which I recommend follow this link: www.nuvet.com/513237 if not you can try any other multivitamin for that matter.
Eve thing I’ve seen here in Canada feeding raw is over $300 a month but I’ve also been told they only need to eat once a day on raw. It just seems complicated
It's a great kibbles but the proteins are too high breeders say that vet say that I don't know as a raw diet feeding chicken is cheaper if you add beef it's not.
Definately chicken is cheaper than beef. 38% protein is high IMO but you can add sweet potatoe, carrots to bring that number down for example. I bring those 2 up as they appear in the barf diet video at the end.
Raul Quick Question Spoke to a Worker at Petco He suggested Whole Hearted For my 4month old female Amstaff Said it was more affordable and uncompromised What’s your suggestion for the kibble?? S
Regional Red kibble says ideal for "Large breed" I have a active Amstaff who is about 55~60# and extremely lean. He needs the extra protein and fat because of the physical exercise. Is this the wrong kibble since he is technically under the recommend 70# minium? If I feed the proper amount for his size (40-60# ratio) is there any foreseeable issues? **I was on Wellness brand fish but I'm not happy with the carbs and ingredients and the 21% protein isn't enough for his activity level**
The funny think about it. I bought this just to try it out on my new litter. even though I wasn’t really trying to buy it because of the price & weight . 😂
My dogs were doing good on this dog food then something change they start getting sick off of it and having diarrhea , so now I feed them straight raw dog food now.
If you have time in your day, I’d love to get your thoughts on the Victor High Energy Beef Recipe (Red Bag). It’s a perfect 24/20. But I’m not quite as good as dissecting ingredients as you are.
Thought 💭 I would answer your question. I would personally switch to a high natural meat ingredient, such as Orijin, Farmina N&D, Essence, Carna4, Nutrisource Element, etc. The quality of ingredients and formula is based on a natural sources.
Regional Red use to have Bison in it but it got dropped. rumor has it they are going to drop the wild boar also which to me doesn't make it worth the price then. I will use it until then.
Been feeding Orijen for years now, the new with grains versions are amazing. The big bag last me quite some time probably because I mix with Inukshuk and Victor and my dog eats 2 cups of kibble once a day. I really like Puppy, but R.Red, Six Fish, and Tundra are all great. Definitely wish it was cheaper.
What do you think about Bullymax? Been feeding my dog that for a few months but since I’ve gotten her, she sheds like crazy and not sure what to change 😩 she’s 7 months
Acana is made by orijen as well.... and if you look at feeding guide lines you can see that you dont have to feed them as much as other kibbles.. almost cuts the portion in half
I think Acana bought Oirjen and from review the recipe has changed because of it within the last yr besides the regional red still get stuff from Canada farm. I mix small bag as topper with victor
@@jaylew651 Acana and Orijen were both under Champion foods a Canadian company and they recently sold out to Mars Inc. They changed the production process and recipes to enable more profit. It's not the same high quality food anymore, but they kept the price up because nobody is really aware of the buyout. If you are in the US the food comes from a new production facility in Kentucky, the rest of the world still gets it from Canada.
@@OldskoolHiFi my dogs have been on Acana and Orijen for almost 8 years now, and I have not seen any change with there appetite . I’m in Canada so not sure if it makes a difference 🤷🏼♀️. Canada has a higher standard for their dog food’s. I had tried “Open Farms” brand and they liked it as well, but it’s a bit more expensive.
@@annawell2517 It's very possible nothing changed for you, it's my understanding that the US residents are getting their food from a new plant in Kentucky, where the same Canadian standards are not being upheld. I would still keep a close eye on the food ingredients and how your dogs respond.
Dogs weren’t meant to have a diet high in carbohydrates and no moisture. Champion pet food is probably the best kibble right now but kibble is not good for dogs period.
My previous vet recommended Hill's Science Diet. Our new vet, said a lot of brands are gimmicks to get you to buy their brand! Guess who's opinion makes more sense to us🤣
