I think the most important thing about Ms. Anderson not wearing a lot of makeup is the message our young people will get from it. That is, makeup is a choice, not a requirement.

I don’t even own makeup. I’m 52. I just have never understood why we are expected to wear it when men aren’t.
@KaiOpaka

I don't think young people are going to get much of a message from this. She'll get more credit from having been treated like crap in the past (like Britney being hounded about her virginity) and still be standing as we look at our own behavior back then with fresh eyes. At best, if they even notice, they'll applaud her for doing it, having in the back of their mind that she's still rich and famous and has a nice place to live so it's okay. She's still got those accessories. What they probably won't do is give their own peers much credit for going without makeup.

I don't think Pamela was trying to be a hero to anyone . She decided to go make up free as a homage to her late make up artist and friend. But the fact that we live in a world where not wearing make up is considered heroic is extremely disturbing.

38 years-old French woman here, so I grew up during this 'Pamela-baywatch-sex-symbol era'. I understand, given Pamela's background why this is a bold choice for her. However, to me, going make-up free does not make us heroes or activists. I think the bigger subject would be, why, in 2024, society still constantly tries to define women based SOLELY on their appearance. To me, that's the real trap we should be wary of. (Being solely defined and judging each other based on our appearance)

I’m 57 and not giving up makeup. I just enjoy it. It’s fun. But I can see where in her life she’s just over it. I haven’t spent my life being followed around and always expected to look perfect. As for you not giving up doing your brows, let me tell you, one of my dearest friends still does hers at 82! It’s the only thing she still does makeup wise and refuses to give it up too.

Pam was a stunningly pretty girl when she was discovered. She became a product of Playboy fantasies, with the implants, Baywatch, etc. For her to attend Fashion Week, anywhere, make-up free, is her way of taking control of her own image and I applaud her. I think she looks great, and all the discussion, much of which is hateful, says more about those commenters than Pamela. She may in the future decide to wear make-up if she feels like , she does not owe anyone an explanation. BTW, aging is a PRIVILEGE that many don't get to experience, not a disease

Isn't it strange how "aging", which is something everyone does and has to do, has been turned into something we are supposed to not do? It's impossible! What are people thinking when they criticize people for getting old? Who do they think they are? Such a strange phenomenon to me.

Physical appearance and how it shapes a woman's life is actually a very important issue. We're picked apart by men, and each other the minute we turn 13. So I'd say that going makeup free at 56 (at a public event no less) is a courageous and radical act. But I still recognise where those other women are coming from. Being an aging peasant lady is always gonna be harder.

She didn’t do it for everyone else. She did because that’s how she felt at the moment. I’m 63, no ‘work’done. I look good with and without makeup. She was very beautiful when she was younger, so she is beautiful at her age. Leave her be. I’m not even a fan of hers, just a woman who doesn’t like hating on every woman who chooses to do something you don’t. I think it’s great.

There's always going to be haters. I personally think her going make up free was fantastic and inspiring. It shows a lot of confidence, regardless of whether she has had work done. Society is so ageist and is especially critical of how older women look and often women feel more confident with life experience NOT less! Hope this will inspire other women to be more at ease with who they are and how they want to show up. It made me like her for being so different from the other wealthy celebrities.

The problem I have about this and anyone else in the limelight having a lot of surgery is they are creating a new 'normal'. The new normal is not a realistic ageing face of a woman that age. It's making other women do strange things; they are either giving up because there is no point in trying to look good, or they are getting into debt for these looks, or they are suffering side effects of botox and surgery. I'm glad she's makeup-free because there had to be an antithesis of the drag makeup that is so prevalent today on females, so for that, applaud her. Still, hopefully, women will find a new normal in their lives and go for it, not get a myriad of surgeries first.

Interesting. I am older than Pamela and love makeup and fashion. I also love "freedom" and can understand Pamela Anderson doing this. I do go out without makeup after I was able to get my skin in good condition. I do put on lipstick on if I go shopping. Then when I do wear makeup, it is with a lighthearted feeling; not because think I look awful without it. I do think accepting yourself and aging is healthy. Yes, I think she is a hero.

I haven't always held Pam Anderson in high regard. However, I do think standards in Hollywood are crazy and she was under pressure to look "the part" of a sex symbol, and was young and crazy, like many of us, but in the public eye, so always under scrutiny. I think its cool she is going against the grain and has opened the dialogue regarding "beauty" and "aging gracefully". I hate that term, because it connotes that others age awkwardly/unnaturally. I think aging is just "natural" and we all age in different ways, some have genes that "stall" the process (Heidi Klum, im looking at you), but eventually, we all get old and show signs of it. Im at an age where i want to look good and feel confident, but don't care about competing/comparing myself with other women.

Pam is a down-to-earth, genuine, tomboy at heart that is bright, funny, and willing to share her journey in a spotlight that wants to tear anyone down as they are lifting you up. I say hats off to her for just living her life as authentically as she can. She's raised two healthy boys, survived Tommy Lee and the industry and still seems sweet and happy. Appearing sans makeup for fashion week was ballsy. I love that she's engaged in her life to go ahead and live it and revamp it. Not trying to hang onto the past. She's too busy being in the present. I love that her son wanted the world to know what an interesting, loveable person she is, the real Pamela, hence prompting her to write the book. How cool is that. That your kid would want that, that he feels that way? She's just a cool person. One so many women would want to be friends with. And to feel that way about a "sex symbol" woman shows there's a genuine quality about her that resonates. So the no makeup seems in perfect step with her. If she does decide to wear it she'll say "Hey, yes! I'm wearing makeup!" Love her!!😘💞🫶

I have turned 60 however I have taken good care of myself throughout my life. Even so, I have had to re-evaluate make up and what it means to my life. I have found that make up in general is now in 2 camps. 1) Use of make up to the extent of contour and immense amount of eye make-up along with tons of lipstick. Photo ready aaaall day. 2) Natural approach to make up. That is using makeup to enhance and bring out your own best qualities. I have gone to camp 2. I love using make up with precision to enhance. I feel like a clown when I put on the full extent. I want to let the world know who I am and I am happy with that. I am thinking that perhaps Pam Anderson came to the same conclusion.

Great video! I am 55 so only one year younger than Pamela. I have had a few surgeries myself but nothing anti-aging yet like a lift. I have had jaw surgery, two nose jobs, lip filler and a breast aug. I have plans for a lower face lift eventually. I can tell that Pamela has had a ton more work done than I have. So it's cool that she chooses not to wear a ton of makeup but I don't think we should make her out to be a natural icon. It's just a person choosing to not wear makeup. What she and I do is not ageing naturally. It feels weird to make it out to be a feminist choice. So I appreciate the nuanced take and the aversion to labels.

She is a natural beauty and, though I have no idea, the more I know about her the more I think she is just as beautiful inside - I wasn’t a fan of her heavy makeup style before bc I thought it hid her beauty - I love makeup, so it’s not bc I’m into “natural” - I also love heavy cool editorial or goth makeup or any style really- but for PA, it just seemed like it was covering her - again, I have no idea, but I thought it was insecurities and outside society pressure - and she was so abused by the public, imo - but she also developed a super strong persona, which was part of the makeup too, so I get it - but, from her recent interviews, I get the impression she is completely grown and confident - something you can not t rush and only achieve with age anyway… if your lucky to get older - she’s a fantastic celebrity and from what she has done in her life throughout, I would say she’s has developed into a hero too

Rightly or wrongly, celebrities are a big societal influence and it’s wonderful to see such women of all sorts being their natural selves, whether that’s going makeup free or embracing their natural hair color. My choice to go makeup-free was made for me last year by my body which has reacted to every “clean” eye shadow and eyeliner I’ve tried. It’s been an interesting experience learning to be comfortable being makeup-free in public. I’m lucky to have great skin so mineral sunscreen is my foundation but I do feel prettier wearing a lightly tinted lip balm and yes, filling in my eyebrows!

Diana! Great post. I grew up in So Ca and I’m going to be 60 this year. As a beach girl I never wore make up and so I never learned to properly apply it. (Pre RU-vid era). Through the years I have had a mostly natural look. Since my mid 40’s I learned to apply makeup with the objective of looking like I don’t have makeup on. As I have got older I have started to fill in the brows. Also, even though I wear sunscreen now, I do have sun damage so I wear a tinted moisturizer, or a light foundation. I applaud PA for her choice and I agree with you that she probably had some lip color and/or some tinted moisturizer in her face. Also, as a person who doesn’t wear a lot of makeup, when I do have an event sometimes I’ll have a makeup artist “do” my face for the evening. Then, I feel like a star. Lastly, I have a lot of friends who (because of our age) are starting to get things done surgically. And, I’m seeing a lot of Same Face or Same Lip syndrome. Why is aging such a quandary for women? It’s sad.

Here is my hot take: I couldn't relate to Pamela Anderson when she was at the pinnacle of her fame. She was so much everything that I would never be that I was indifferent to her. The Pamela Anderson who shows up to Fashion Week in a vintage dress she has previously worn, only mascara and lipstick, who chooses to spend less time in the makeup chair and more time exploring Paris, reading... Now, that Pamela Anderson I can relate to. Also, going to Pink's IG to tell her she got old? What does that person commenting think is in store for them?

I’m big mad at haters, too. But bigger mad at all the $ backed pressures to beat time back with ever bigger cosmetic or surgical clubs. I’m waving at not-too-distant 50, and becoming much braver about less and less makeup, too. But I’ll also be filling my sad eyebrows at least a little right up to the grave lol

Nothing heroic about a celeb not wearing makeup. I understand that for women who feel as though they have to wear makeup, it might be helpful, but many of the women I see walking around in my daily life in London, wear little to no makeup. Anderson’s life is also different now, so her not wanting to bother with makeup as much, seems normal to me. I’m 40 yrs old and wear much less makeup than I used to.🤷🏼‍♀️

I always loved wearing makeup, and it’s as much a part of my personal hygiene routine as brushing my teeth. I’m sick of the whole Pammy no makeup swirl. Do you, if you want to put on makeup, great, if not don’t, still great. Don’t make looks central to your life, and this is coming from a vain Italian girl turning 54 and still learning to manage how much energy I put into my looks. I have to give up the idea I have to be pretty to deserve love.

I've been makeup free most of my life. Most of that is due to my complexion- a medium olive complexion with strong eyebrows & eyelashes. When I would go out dancing then I'd have some lipstick and eyeliner & people would react to me like I really did myself up. Now that I'm in my 60's, I'm starting to consider some makeup- a bit of blush, lip color and mascara.
@SewingLara
@SewingLara 3 месяца назад
I agree with you basically on all points. I'll turn 49 soon. I used to dye my hair blond and wear makeup and once I grew out my natural color and reduced my makeup to a blush and occasionally lip gloss, you have no idea how many people remind me that they find I looked so much better blond. I can't even. It's so ridiculous. I lost my whole respect for them. Let people be and look however the f they want. Oh and comments about my age, also annoying. People sometimes suck.
@unblahyourself

I agree. What makes people feel they need to say these things out loud? I have thought about this and I think it warrants an entire video but here is what I think is under it.... they want to believe that everything they have been doing to fit the beauty standard was necessary, good, and worth it. When you show them that personal choice, ease with your own body, and self love are doable, they feel "wrong". They want to be right, and they want to let you know they are right. It's awful. One time I wore a black wig at Halloween and everyone said I looked SO MUCH BETTER. lololol Oh, ok, just let me change myself completely for your comfort.

@unblahyourself I think so, too. Oh, and with the wig, that is so typical 🙈 I feel that people also can't handle someone disregarding beauty standards, and it makes them feel uncertain. Because it is kinda daring. It's different. But I learned to love and embrace different. Honestly, at the end of the day, what do I have from other's approval? Plus, my Husky couldn't care less if I were butt ugly as long as I keep spoiling him ☺️ dogs teach us better. My husband loves me the way I am no matter what. And my skills are not disappearing with lack of trendy hair or makeup or whatnot. I am very excited about you making that video. I resonate with your the so much and love listening to you while doing something creative. It's like a coffee with a bestie.

You are my hero. You are a Super Hero. I so agree with you that our faces are made perfect. They work and everything has a function. I have a thin upper lip in a time when the full pouty lip is the rage. Well I'm so happy with my lips and don't care what anyone else thinks and more importantly I don't try to change my face to look the same as 6 billion other people. I like that I don't look like every woman out there, that I look different. Why do we all have to be clones of whatever the latest look is? I watched one of your other videos about what happened to unique beauty. That's what I want - to be unique and not to look like a clone.

Hi Diana! Yeah I certainly didn't want to dive into "did she or didn't she?" because there are many videos out there where plastic surgeons do this and I honestly can't tell most of the time, nor care. The fact that it got so much attention just shows that we do actually need to talk more about it. Thanks for hanging out with me!

The hoopla surrounding Pam is the fact that she wore heavy make up regularly as do most celebrities but in her case to a higher degree as her brand was the platinum Blonde/pin-up/Barbie doll aesthetic. Thus the decision to go totally bare faced suddenly, quite the extreme opposite because nothing about her former look was natural or subtle. I think it was also more surprising in light of the fact that by this stage, many women in the public eye have gotten plastic surgery that isn't more flattering, just is. I don't know what work she's done to her face if any but nothing that's noticeable from what I can see other than what she might have changed early on before already when she was just a starlet. Only thing that's obvious to us all are her breast implants. My point on this is simply that her going out without so much as mascara is surely unthinkable in such circles because the women in that lane are not only putting it all on, they're getting surgery too. In any event, I think there's a middle ground that can be achieved between all the layers required for a full face of make up and how we look rolling out of bed (when and if the latter can honestly use some help.) I think she looks older than necessary without it and tired which to me is another issue. I think the distinction can be made in terms of not caring about being seen without make up (great) and deliberately attending events not looking your best, needlessly which is also an extreme in the opposite direction from the bombshell ways of her past. Which is how I think she appears with this supposedly bold new move. That said, if she likes it, I love it LOL

Very familiar with her face, from youth. Not sure what work people are referring to. I think that the lack of eye makeup reveals her native ethnic appearance, which I'd guess to be Scandinavian, probably Swedish. And makes the face shape look slightly different, without contouring etc.

Thanks, interesting upload. Personally, I can't wait to have enough confidence to not wear makeup. What annoys me is dishonesty - famous women that upload photo's titled "Me - no makeup", when in reality, they are wearing much less if you look closely. It is as if they want to fool everyone - "See, I still look super cute naturally". Men especially don't seem to realize that natural blondes do not have black eyelashes etc. Why all this deceit? Don't they get enough attention?

I think people are surprised because she is who she is and has the history she has. I guess some people find it incongruous that a person like HER would dare to be seen and photographed in such a high profile event without playing the game she is expected to play. I’m about it. But I also agree with the very first sentiment, that there are bigger issues right now.

I’m having another thought about pretty privilege. Remember when Mo’nique wore a knee length dress on the red carpet and had visibly unshaven legs? She looked stunning. And If I’m remembering correctly, the people destroyed her for it.
@unblahyourself
@unblahyourself 8 месяцев назад
That's an interesting topic. so I see through headlines that she mostly didn't shave her legs and then all of a sudden started shaving them and the press wanted to point that out but then she went back to not shaving them around 2020. I think that I also didn't shave my legs around 2020. 😅 So this was around 3 years ago that this decision was made. I do believe the pandemic has really changed the young people and they are far less superficial and way more welcoming to all ideas so I think that if Mo'Nique wanted to talk about her hairy legs now she would be met with applause from the younger crowd, many of whom won't play the games we went along with just a few years ago. These are definitely new times for women and I love it!

This is an interesting video but I beg to differ on a couple points. At 57, there's no way she could look like the sex pot she was in her twenties and thirties and even into her forties. iyt's impossible and so she decided --I won't carry on in that fashion and make a mockery of myself. The second point is according to Dr Gary Linkiv, she's had a couple hundred thousand dollars worth of procedures done which your average woman will not have had done. So like some people pointed out --what she says is natural is as far from natural as you could ever get. My third point is more personal: I at 57 was taken for a 35 year old and when my intern dentist fell in love with me, his sort of girlfriend who was also a dental intern, became incredibly jealous until he told her I wasn't 37, as I'd apoetared, I was 57. Immediately she calmed down and so it goes. For the record, I also wore no makeup and I'd stopped wearing makeup about age 50 and I looked as I said about 20 years younger than she looks as to me she looks definitely at least 57 if not older, in part due perhaps to her hepatitis C that she got from her ex which she had for about 15 years until she completed a 12-week regimen with a drug called sovaldi. I myself though had a quarter century of sepsis which was caused by staphylococcus Aurelius which I picked up in Egypt when I was quite young so I guess she's got nothing on me there either. My point is not to brag about myself but my point is to indicate that she looks her age and it's not very good and that's after $200,000 of plastic surgery interventions, so no TRULY natural woman should ever compare herself to Anderson who frankly is not worth comparing themself to. They are far more beautiful with their natural beauty minus plastic surgery with or without makeup than Anderson will ever be.

Love your Pamala story, and it is relevant both for how her live was and the bravery of what she have now done with her image and publicity for a more natural beauty standard. I didn't like "her", or more the part of the image portrayed, as I have very little knowledge about the person, because she was too artificial and seemed to be only promoting sexualising women... Also, in Europe many was like "well finally she is giving up the sex-kitten image...".. so she is soo much more interesting today. But indeed, this is still a big issue, and people make sure women are so insecure so we spend all this time on this... instead of educating ourself, working, taking risks and innovating...or relaxing and enjoying ourselves, or engaging in spiritual pursuits ... or... instead of feeling insecure and not enough... just imagine 😊

@unblahyourself 4 месяца назад
That is true! I think mostly because she was still "young and fresh" it wasn't as big of a deal but it definitely could be due to all those reasons! Alicia looked basically the same with or without. I think it was shocking for people to see Pam without, and much older, so people wanted to talk about it. But yes Alicia should be applauded as an absolute trailblazer in this arena!
@AvePalanthe
@AvePalanthe 4 месяца назад
Maybe because Pam had a pretty unique look, like the hair, make up, the figure. She was defined by it as a person. Blonde sexbomb of the 90s was her brand so to speak, like Jane Mansfield, Marilyn etc in their era. Everybody in the 90s knew, who Pam was, but only a few saw her in more than Baywatch. Alicia is unique because of her skills as a musician, that's what she is most famous for I guess. She is a stunning, beautiful person, her beauty is a part of her success, but the other skills are maybe more important.

I think it's actually not particularly brave. She spent her early years being so famously attractive she got discovered and turned into a star.. If you go without makeup in that situation, everyone goes 'oh it's a choice, and she's actually hot.' When your average woman does that, and they call her plain. Girls in school get bullied or ignored. At anytime she could get the best makeup, the best makeup artist, a stylist, etc. Same for Alicia Keys. They're rich. They can afford the best skin care, the best food. Etc. There's also a movement with Jordan Peterson stans out there judging women for wearing makeup which should be their bodily right and choice. Pam has every right to make her choice, but it just feels like cosplay rather than authentic when you're in certain situations a publicist is going to be working on to have everyone praise you about. I root for her, but her fame got her cast in a Broadway show. It's not exactly like she's playing with the same deck as everyone else.
