This looks awesome! Will you design more pieces in future?

Awesome! I would like to see some trees or interior stuff for ruins and other places

Nice. You've go the idea across without breaking the bank to do it. I think as long as all your stuff is uniform across the board, you've got a good table. Thanks for the idea.

One of the best TTRPG channels on RU-vid. I'll die on that hill.

I like using minis that are not fully painted but were simply given zenithal priming. It's a stark contrast to usual terrain, but using them with paper works really well. And leaving out a lot of detail makes it easier for players to fill in the blanks and imagine the scene to their liking.

I had bad luck with rubber cement in the long run. I made some for 6mm Robotech. I had to put it up for awhile. After a 3-6 months I went to get it out and it had failed. I did the both sides like you're supposed. Didn't know if it was the humid area where I live. For other similar stuff, I usually make a rame with corrugated and hto glue then use pva to put the printed paper on.

I started gaming with paper terrain and still use a lot of them today, including paper minis.

This is a really clever idea! High utility at a low cost is the name of the game these days. Great work, man. I'm really enjoying your channel.

WotC, used to have papercraft terrain on the DnD site back in the 3.x days. High-school me, definitely had shoeboxes full of paper houses and mausoleums etc.

Way cool. Have you followed Crooked Staff at all? The paper terrain train has a long pedigree! Awesome to see some cool art here!

A kid's watercolor set would be the way to go, if you want to color the pieces. Fast, easy, good-looking, and no worries about crushing the piece.

This is also a cool way to put custom decorations onto your terrain.

It absolutely is...I have some of the very 3d printed & bought terrain pieces but paper terrain can look brilliant.

I know what you mean. I very rarely get to play in person. Mostly online but when I do get to play in person, the paper will reign supreme haha!

The order you use to build your pillars is a bit off. It's way easier to square the base up first, fold the tabs at the top inward and close the "roof"stone last. I do like the minimalist style 👍

Great to see paper terrain get some love! How do you design yours? I find it easiest to use Blender 3D and its papercraft plugin (both free) and any textures I can draw or snag. Love the designs on your textures, and the rubber cement is a great idea.

Thanks! I also use blender to get my basic shapes, but I actually wrote up my workflow the other day. Let me grab it! 1. Build the basic shapes in Blender (can use available STLs as reference for scale or inspiration > 2. Export to Unfolder (Mac App), adjust any of the tabs and layout to maximize space or ease of build > 3. Export SVGs to Affinity Photo, convert Unfolder line work to simple curves and lines > 4. Export Affinity Photo file to iPad > 5. Fill in shapes with art work > 6. Export finished artwork file to computer > 7. Layout and design final publish version of the pieces > 8. Export as PDFs > 9. Print as needed Probably a little more extensive than it needs to be, but it works haha
@Karlmakesstuff
@Karlmakesstuff 9 месяцев назад
@@KanesKiln Definitely! You can probably skip the unfolder step by using the Paper Model add-on, but that's only one step of difference really. Solid work!

Visually they look absolutely superb, the outlining on the improvised crystal piece really made everything pop as well. Out of interest, do you find any issues with their low weight? Do they ever get knocked or blown around?
@KanesKiln
@KanesKiln 9 месяцев назад
Thanks! And occasionally they do but I haven’t had an issue with it. I try to use them as set pieces so if they get moved around a bit they still get the gist across.
@Sanguivore
@Sanguivore 4 месяца назад
If it ever became *too* much of an issue, could probably just make an extra panel for the bottoms and glue a penny in 'em or something. Or glue 'em down to a lil piece of cardboard.

If you make simple shapes, you can glue them around cut xps foam.

Same here. Mostly VTT stuff but always enjoy that in person game when possible.
@MGunnarson
@MGunnarson 26 дней назад
@@KanesKiln The logical conclusion here is to bring the VTT to your in-person table. A decent portable monitor is not a big investment, and the things always go on sale. I do this for my games, and use paper miniatures on top of the laid-flat screen. It's really pushing together the best of both worlds without being a burden of money, space, or time.

Are you using regular paper or a thicker paper stock?

Did you use 80g/m paper or stronger types?
@KanesKiln
@KanesKiln 9 месяцев назад
I just used 110 lb cardstock. You can use lighter weight paper but you just want to find your preferred level of sturdiness
@ehisey
@ehisey 6 месяцев назад
Most printers can handle up to about 90. But 110 gives you the best rigidity for most paper terrain types. Double layering 70 to 80g/m also is not to bad.
