Nationwide is 100% worth it for me. My bun has had chronic ear infections for 2 years (common in older lops). The daily medication and vet visits every few months would’ve cost me thousands by now. Nationwide reimburses me 90% after the deductible. It’s allowed me to get my bun the best long term care.

Cinnabun is an adorable 🐰 bunny! Nationwide pet insurance is worth it for your bunny 🐰! You would be best to get it as soon as you get your bunny 🐰! You have to get an exam to prove if your bunny has any preexisting conditions first! We had some very expensive bills with our first 2 bunnies 🐰! We got pet insurance as soon as we got our nex 3 bunnies 🐰 ! Bun Bun V is our current bunny 🐰! He is a rescue bunny 🐰! We have had him for a little over a year now! He was 2 and a half years old when we adopted him! We were lucky that he didn't have any preexisting conditions! He's been real healthy so far! He is a sweet bunny 🐰 and enjoys being petted! Have a great Sunday, Cinnabun! Bunnies 🐰 RULE!

I agree that getting insurance for Cinnabun before it’s too late is a good idea. The $30 per month cost is affordable, at least cheaper than where I lived. While living in Boston, Nationwide quoted me $47 per month for my 3.5-year-old rabbit. However, due to my rabbit had head down syndrome and malocclusion, they required me to wait for 6 months and send a blood test to prove he is illness-free before continuing my insurance application. The insurance application process for my rabbit is just too much work, and to add to that, they don’t even cover my rabbit’s teeth problems. For me, it’s not worth it. I would rather pay from my own pocket.

Such an important topic! I live in Denmark and I have insurance for both my bunnies, who have been living with me for approximately 3 years. The insurance has thankfully been wasted on Mango. However, Chili has gone into stasis once or twice a year, and was even hospitalized for 2 nights once (the worst days of my life!). So in Chili's case, insurance has been absolutely worth it. You just never know!

I have always had all my pets insured (I've had 5 rabbits and one hamster in total). It's been totally worth it for me. However, I don't live in the US. My per insurance costs about 10 dollars per rabbit each month. They only cover up to 2000 dollars each year, but that has been more than enough, even for one rabbit I had that was sick all the time (chronic disease plus a few other problems). I made a calculation once, and the amount I had gotten back from her insurance alone during one year was enough to cover 2 rabbit insurances for 2,5 years.

I felt the need to chime in on this one. I am covered by nationwide through my work. I pay $3.29 per paycheck. I was covered in January and as of November 20, 2023 I have paid $151.34. I personally haven't submitted any claims (my bun is pretty healthy and I haven't signed up for my second bun yet.) But just having the pet insurance just makes me feel secure so that if something does come about, I have a back up plan. I feel that for me $3.29 a paycheck is a good price for feeling protected.

Nationwide is the only exotic pet insurance that LA Guinea Pig Rescue constantly recommends. I personally do not have pet insurance because… well… MONEY in Southern California is hard to come by and easy to lose. I agree with your statement that really insurance is dependent upon each Guardian’s (I’m sorry, Bun’s) decision because it is such a personal-situation topic. I’ve been lucky so far, but you’re right: you never know. No judgements towards anyone who does or does not have insurance. ❤

I have rabbit insurance for my Dutch and I will always have rabbit insurance from now on. My previous rabbit was a New Zealand and I had her for 3 and a half years. She came down with a very bad case of ringworm. The vet and I fought for her life for 3 months. She lost all her fur and eventually she didn't make it. I'm disabled and on a limited income and she was my emotional support animal. The vet bill totalled more than $3000 in the end and I didn't have insurance. Besides the heartbreaking loss of my rabbit, I was left with a bill which I had to ask friends to help me pay. Even though I would have had to pay out of pocket, the reimbursement would have really helped because the vet bill was paid over time as the illness progressed and the reimbursements would have allowed me to pay the bills on my own without requesting help from friends. I will always have pet insurance from now on.

Morgan, I love your videos. They have been such a huge help with my first bunny! I took him to the vet for the first time since I got him and answered all the vets questions about the hay, food, treats and chew toys I provide him, how I bonded with him and continue to bond and what I watch for in regard to him. She was so impressed with my bunny knowledge and said he looks excellent and she doesn’t recommend changing a thing! He does need to be neutered so that will be done. I told the vet (she is a regular vet that also specializes in bunnies) that you taught me everything I know! He is a happy and healthy bun 🐰

I had Nationwide for my rabbits for years and this is a subject I can actually elucidate on from personal experience. So, Nationwide used to be worth it overall. For rabbits it has never covered anything like checkups, shots, spay/neuters, etc. None of the routine stuff. But it also didn't used to have a deductible and was only about $12 a month per rabbit. Overall, it did save me money when a major event happened, like a major stasis event or end of life stuff for my first rabbit. However, notice I said I "had" Nationwide. In the last two years, the premiums jumped from $12 a month to about $30 a month and then to $50-60 a month, they added a $250 yearly deductible and the coverage was not changed. If your rabbit is still in the first half of their life, you'd honestly be better served by taking that $50 a month and putting it in a pet savings account that you can use whenever they have vet expenses. Nationwide's new premiums are crap and it is so not worth the money anymore. Also another note is that not only does it not cover spay/neuter, it doesn't cover post-op complications either.

It’s sucks that overpriced healthcare and crappy insurance extends to animals as well. It’s literally already bad enough for humans🫠

Exactly why I had to get rid of it. I have 4 rabbits and it just isnt worth the $200+/month. If they covered vaccines and check ups then it might be worth it. Just had to spend $1000 on all 4 of mine for their check ups and vaccine.
@tehlaziness
@tehlaziness 7 месяцев назад
@@GuineapigGuardian For spays and neuters, yeah. My holland had some pretty bad post op issues after her spay that cost me a lot and her insurance wouldn't pay for any of it. It was only $12/mo at the time though and she went through a really bad stasis situation last year, so it was worth keeping despite that for a while. $55/mo with a $250 yearly deductible is just unreasonable though

I had Nationwide policies on two rabbits for about a year. This is New York, and the policy details are somewhat different than what is detailed in this very informative video. Our policies, for three-ish year-old rabbits without preexisting conditions, cost about $31.60/month for each rabbit. The policies covered 75% of vet bills with a $250 yearly deductible; so a bit different than Morgan's policy. After losing a bunny (we think cancer) and paying the vet for associated expenses, it turns out most vet bills are lower than a couple of month's premiums, and that the highest cost of seeing a vet -- for me -- was the cost of transportation out to a rabbit-savvy vet, which are far and few where I am. I canceled the policies after that vet visit and am prepared to pay out-of-pocket for any expenses that may arise in the future. Barring surgery, rabbit vet bills for generally healthy rabbits are lower than the cost of insurance premiums.

Our 3-year-old bunny had GI stasis for the first time over the weekend and it cost $500 for her to get some fluids & medication, so now I’m considering getting insurance. Your video was super helpful. I’m gonna check out Nationwide’s plan right now.

Exotic pet insurances usually run year to year, so the next year itll be a new plan, higher prices, and also new exclusions for pre existing conditions, for example if first year your bunny develops an issue and is covered by insurance, the next year with new plan it will not be covered as its pre existing then.

My rabbit is now 10 years old. I have been with Nationwide since I got him 10 years ago. He is 10 so his current yearly premium is a little over $400. He hasn't had any major illnesses in the last few years, but I remember a few years ago he had a severe GI problem and we had to take him to the emergency vet in the middle of the night for x-rays, blood work, medications, and then two days in the vet for a total cost of almost $1500. The insurance covered almost half of the cost, so I was very glad I had insurance at that time. As you all know, rabbits have "sudden" stasis. I think our rabbits have always been prone to gastrointestinal problems, so I am glad we had the insurance :)

We have rabbit insurance for our mini lops. We were very unlucky, but one of our babies died soon after we got him of an intestinal coccidia infection. He had to stay day and night at a specialist vets for 5 days before he passed. We paid one month’s insurance for him (£10) and were refunded his treatment in full (£270) minus a small premium. It was definitely worth it for us and we have kept the policy for our remaining bun ❤

It's so worth it, because you never know when something worse will happen. At least in Denmark, exotics are super expensive, and insurance is the only thing that makes us comfortable if we have an emergency - emergency weekend visit here is about 450$, we got back about 210$ . Your insurance seems even better than what is offered in DK, so i would def use it, but the plan and insurance we have is the best on the market for rabbits (and there are only two other) so there's that too. They also cover teeth if your bunny is up to 6 months old (my bun is adopted adult bun so no coverage), but if older, it does not (there are some mitigations there for big surgeries), and no other insurance but ours does that, and frankly it is so rare that insurances cover teeth for pets anyway.

I've been a pretty lucky girl since I've had rabbits ( been at least 30 years). I have been able to work off my vet bills which is totally awesome and I know she doesn't charge me as much as she should...I am beyond lucky, I don't take it for granted!! But my vet will be retiring soon and that scares me to death! Vets normally charge so much and I am scared about the future for my two buns if something serious was to happen to them. Thanks for the info and I may look into pet insurance but I have a feeling rabbits are not covered in my country. Love your videos!

I just recently got insurance for my two buns. Both are under a year old holland lops and we live in California. Our monthly cost for the insurance is 100 for both buns so 50 each. I talked about it with my husband and we just feel safer spending 100 a month and not worrying about finance while in an emergency situation. We have not had any emergency situations come up yet. Only the standard regular vet visit for wellness and neuter. I am curious to see what it looks like in the future. However for now we believe we might a good decision. Will hopefully be able to update in the future much love!

I got an insurence almost a year ago in sweden. I choosed between 2companies based on accesebelity and advices from bunny channels on fb. I choosed the basic insurance and pay 12 dollars or 127sek per month, i only had to pay the dubble in starting few once and the incurance cover what you talked about in the video. I choosed to do this becus even if iam a sick pensioner whit limit income it is a cheap cost if worst would come to happend. I also try to havea small peronly saving for does expense not cover like health check vacin and sprey/nuter. (both girls are nuterd). Hope this info helps someone and great hairstyle Morgan, as always stay hoppy.

I just insured my 8 mo old bunny through Nationwide and I'm paying $25.89 per month with the 90% coverage and $100 deductible. The good thing about this insurance is that there is no cap on how much they'll pay. I've not actually used the insurance yet but I have so much peace of mind knowing that it's there!

She said that you have to pay first and then they will refund you what you paid rigth? Isn't insurance supposed to help people who can't afford to pay in the first place. Like I can't afford to pay $1000 right now, so why would I pay now and then send receipts to get back the refund.

Nationwide is the pet insurance I have for my bunny through my employer and I think it's 100% worth it. My bunny was perfectly healthy when I got him but went into GI stasis twice within a span of a month just 3 months after I got him. I had to hospitalize him twice so the vet bills were very expensive. Also, insurance can be a huge peace of mind to know that if suddenly your faced with a bill of thousands of dollars it's not going to be a huge financial hit.

Pet insurance in South Africa is horrible. It’s the same as the US it’s not worth it. I have to pay R367 a month with their premium package.
