I really hate my corporate job and I wanna make a change but Im Always making excuses to why I should stay. All my friends believe that I can do it but me. This year is the year to take more risk! Well...what kind of job do you have now? You'll wanna quit plumbing too. Trust me. It's hard. But if you like quality and mechanics and working with your hands....it's a great career. @@sloppyjonuts9162 don't be afraid of it brother! I did some videos on most of the math you will use if that helps! But yes I bought that code book my first year and it was super helpful! BUT....bc you won't know pretty much what most of the code pertains too bc you are new it might be a bit much! But yes. Also they come out with new code books every 2 or 3 years so once you get in you might be testing out of a newer code book. But not much would change. Anyway! Thanks for stopping in! You can do it
Hey welcome! Good question and depending on what area you live in and what is needed in your area. It's both. My union only has one union residential contractor in the area. So the odds of getting on board there are slim. But the hall teaches us service classes and more than enough classes that pertain to residential plumbing. But commercial EXPERIENCE on the job training is primarily commercial. I'd say that's pretty standard for most union plumbers in America. Keep us posted with more!
Thanks for your encouraging words. It means a lot to us. I am thinking about enrolling in a trade school to become a plumber. Maybe I should quit working as a teacher assistant because they don't pay me enough to afford my expenses. I am kind of nervous about attending trade school because I may fail.

(For Ex: 3 classes from 6am-12pm, all monday - friday, no weekend classes) 2. Are there actually homework? And do have to participate in class, like Presentations or things of that nature? Howdy partner, that's a great question. They're multiple routes you can take. But in my advice would be getting straight into an apprenticeship program. If you can't get in then go into a trade school. Help your resume for applying to get into the union next time. But my vote is apprenticeships all the way and become a helper if you can't get into the apprenticeship
I have a quick question cause I’m wanting to start my plumbing career with the union soon and I would have to commute to work. That being said I’m wondering would I have to commute for school as well? I’m not really sure how it all works but I’m trying to gather all the information I can?
Awesome! You definitely want to get going and One of the best choices you can make. So as far as the union goes and for what I understand in terms of plumbing and or pipe fitting you go to your local training hall and that is usually 2 days a week. Depending on how large it is and how many members you have that does change on what is available. Meaning you might have Saturdays or maybe they'll do a midweek one. But most of them are twice a week at night from 5:00 to 9:00 or 5:00 to 8:00. Kind of depends on what's going on. So yes, you do commute for work and then after work you commute twice a week to your hall for schooling. Do you have any other questions? Go ahead and browse the channel and see what's going on. Well, if that's the one thing you don't wanna do or you are nervous about it...I'd get over that as much as you can. It's not complicated math and you'll use it everyday. So it becomes easier. But math just helps cut out the mistakes ...instead of "eye balling it" there is math in plumbing to make it exact. Thanks for the question
Ouch. That's a really rough start. Did you graduate? I am assuming no. Unless you have a diploma or GED you will not be able to apply. You'd have a long road to getting in. But nothing can't be done like this if you actually want to give a fuck about your life.

Hey great question and for my union and I am sure most UA unions they are going to be 3 hour classes twice a week. So 6 hours per week plus maybe depending on the class an hour of homework. For 5 years

Hey! So everyone works 40 hours per week. We don't have any part time jobs. School is 6 hours per day AFTER you get off work you go to class twice a week.
@@LuisVasquez-le8wx probably a couple different routes you could go. The unions might honor some of that experience and start you up a grade or a non union shop might take you on. For sure have options
Hi! USA is pretty good. And my man 5 years. For the union here in the USA it's 5 years long. And a lifetime of learning. To be a licensed plumber by your state you must have 7500 hours of experience in order to legally plumb. It's a lot. Great question
I wouldn't be afraid of that. You'll learn and that's why they have school. They will teach you. A lot of it is fractions. I was nervous too. But you can learn if you have the will! Thanks for sharing that
@@JoonRhee hmm I've been learning a lot about fraction I was taking math 20 the foundations on math here in my local community college so hopefully it will give me a idea at what in looking at.
Great question brother! Each city and state will have its own training facility. So mine is only 15 min away but we chose to live in a central location. Some guys have to travel upwards of an hour. I didn't grow up in the state I'm in so maybe that's why. Anyway, check with your local union and usually they will have it listed. Thanks for tuning in!

Plumbing, electrical and furnace repair are my specialties as a handyman. I live here in san diego CA. I love plumbing work and I have done almost all kinds of residential plumbing. Well as a plumber I won't tell anyone you've been touching plumbing without a license;) haha but I'm sure you've already looked into it...you'll need to be backed or verified by a contractor somehow for your hours to take any type of license for the state. I could be wrong but a plumbing license allows you to work commercial or residential. Same with sparky work. But it sounds more like you might want a general contractors license. My brother in law got his a few years back. But your biggest hurdle is gonna be finding a person or contractor to sign off on your hours to take any type of state test. Hope that helps!
