You just described my life man in regards to how many different jobs you’ve had and the variety, though you do have a lot more experience than I do. Anyways, I just finished my 2nd day of apprenticeship and this is awesome. Like you said it’s hard work, especially here in FL (it’s hot!!), but still, it’s awesome.
@@prod.genesis honestly really glad you connected! I feel like I'm running across people who've done a lot and than decided later to build a career or they get stuck and never leave their home town. But thanks for dropping a line and get that sweat on homes! Hahaha humidity is nicer than not having it
They are not Philips screws, they ar JIS screws, similar to look at but a Philips screwdriver will damage them, use a JIS screwdriver. Whenever you drain an oil pump pack it with vaseline. It will prime it creating the suction to first draw up oil.
Plumbing is far from easy, now does it become more familiar for us along the way? Why yes of course! I always like to remind myself how impressive and important it is on communication that a good journeymen shows with others. It’s probably one of THE hardest things to master because quite frankly a lot of old heads are stubborn as all hell and there is a huge gatekeeping mentality that needs and hopefully goes soon! Good foreman and journeymen admit their mistakes or concerns, doesn’t matter if it electric, carpentry, plumbing etc). One misspoke can set plans back days weeks or even months. We’re all there to do a job, have fun and communicate with each other.
Well said! Thanks for that insight and input! Appreciate you sharing that with all the folks and it's always great to see someone who is invested and still sharing the knowledge!
You know brother around doing the damn thing. I've just been building content within. Maybe I'll share it. Maybe I won't. But thanks for asking. You good?
I just passed the utilities 1 test for my cities water plant treatment. I’m rank 23 out of 11 ranks. I just have to wait until it’s my turn. If I still don’t get picked. The UA is going to hire again next may 2025 and I’ll apply with them next year. Currently work at a chocolate factory. I make okay pay but I’m ready for a change but I’ll stick with my factory and use there tuition reimbursement in the mean time. Sucks that no more ZA when the time comes but it is what it is.
Well done! You've done all you can and now you have to play the waiting game! It's worth it though. Way to go on taking those forward steps! Keep us posted! Thanks for sharing
You absolutely, do not understand the importance of what your learning. It takes a while. The dunning Krueger effect is real. Good luck with your career. Its a good one.
Had my union interview yesterday. Dressed nice, felt like I said the right things. asked them a decent amount of questions. How soon did you get a call back after your interview?
That's great to hear! Way to go and way to show him that you want it and show him that you're interested. A call back really depends on how many interviews they have to go through and how many people are interviewing for the position. I believe mine was about a week just because of all the candidates that they have to go through so it depends. But they'll get back to you for sure to let you know. At least if you made it on the list at all. Keep us informed. Congratulations!
Esa es la belleza de la plomería. debe saber que ha sido capacitado y altamente capacitado para saber que lo que ha hecho es correcto y no será necesario arreglarlo una vez que todo esté terminado. ¡gracias por el comentario!
Right on amigo! Depends on how many people you have to go through and are on the waiting list. I only went through one. But our Union wasn't as competitive as others. But I still had to beat out some people. Keep us in the loop. May the plumbing gods be on your side
Thanks man, helps a lot The Gospel! Jesus Christ loves you and died, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven to pay for your sin! Repent and turn to Him and you will walk in light and be saved. Read the book of John and Luke to see God's love for you!
I'm glad it helped brother. Appreciate it and in terms of religious beliefs and views politics, I would keep those more personal just because those are heavy and hard topics to bring up at work. If you want to pay her career I would just be a little more enlightened. Thanks for the comment
Hi. I apprenticed woth my uncle a retired union plumber. Fell in love with the trade. Went to apply for every job I could apprentice for. All said the same thing. I dont have enough experience. Got into HVAC and got a job right away. I genuinely dont understand whats going on with plumbing companies these days, but its absolutely absurd.
That's really a bummer to hear. I know that HVAC or fitters have a lot more pm work so I'm glad you got in for that. I'm sure it's still fun. But yes plumbing work or contractors better start prepping new people or we are fucked! Thanks for sharing this
I had this same problem today with my Land cruiser 2006, instead of buying bigger breaker bars and hurting my back, I just removed the radiator to make space for my Milwak M18, put the toughest fat 1/2” socket wrench I got, put on eye protection and ear plugs as it will be loud as hell, prayed to Jesus and Buddha, and pressed the trigger. The whole car shook like crazy and it was loud as fk but she came out after 3 seconds! Lots of dust everywhere afterwards…
@@takeshi1242 what another glorious story! Yes as you can see I did the same with my ears! I hate just a normal impact sound. But that bitch is amazing! Won't ever do a job without it! Totally awesome to hear! Way to go! Thanks for sharing!
Mmmm that's a tough question. I wanna ask why start now? I am assuming you hAve a career or are retired? Or? I can't tell you no. The only concern is your body. And in which sector of plumbing you get involved with. If you go union it's mostly commercial which is a hard grind. But residential for sure is a little lighter but smaller areas. Great question! If you want less heavy work in the union there is always being an electrician:)
My experience was I had to get in and I therefore had to work my ass off to prep for the aptitude test and get all my references in order and if I were to get myself an interview I needed to make sure that I got it. I did. Maybe a little bit better than average on the aptitude test and I was their number one choice during the interview. So for me my turnaround was pretty quick. I got hired on to a contractor within 2 days and was accepted about a month later
Thanks for your encouraging words. It means a lot to us. I am thinking about enrolling in a trade school to become a plumber. Maybe I should quit working as a teacher assistant because they don't pay me enough to afford my expenses. I am kind of nervous about attending trade school because I may fail.
Hey I’m a JM plumber and a plumbing instructor at a local college. I would take your inquiries to your local plumbers and pipe fitters union. See what they have to say. Good luck!
Howdy! I'd say it's going well:) hope you search my channel and it will provide you with more answers. But yes, finished last year and won't ever look back. What a great experience, challenge and worth the investment. Best of luck, keep us in the loop
I've been an EMT for 10 years, I'm 35 years old. My wife's pregnant with our first child. I'm thinking of switching careers. EMT..It just doesn't pay the bills. I have always been fascinated with plumbing. I hate math. I failed math in high school had to retake it and college got a D.. I've never liked math. So the math side of plumbing is really turning me off any suggestions about getting through the school. I have no problem with showing up on time and getting work done as a first responder time is critical. it's just school is more difficult for me than other people. Took me a while to pass my National EMT exam. Just at a cross rode right now and I'm guna be a dad. I'm so excited.
Hey congrats I hope you raise your child with love I know you will be a great dad I too am interested in plumbing but not really good at math either but from what I know you'll need to maybe know 9 th grade level math basic multiplication division etc but don't let that stop you from pursuing your dream goals finally just pray to God and he will guide you where you need to go. I hope everything works out.
Do you have your license? If not, you'll have to apply and go through our program. If you get your license you can apply to join but you'll have to work really hard to make your name bc we consider a person a "white ticket" who didn't earn their stripes like US through a 5 year program. Anyway that's the routes I know of
Hey Joon, just found your channel. I have an interview with a union coming up Apr 3. Just wondering if you had any tips in addition to your interview video? What kind if questions do they ask? Thanks!
Hey, glad you found the channel. Congrats on your interview and as far as any other advice I'd have to say the videos are good and you got to tell them that you want it and you're actually not going to quit. I think that's the biggest thing and you're going to try to become better throughout your entire career. Keep us filled in
What do you mean instrumentation? Like an avenue of education? Bar none, a 5 year union apprenticeship is the best door opener for opportunities. At least nationwide and highest paying. But if you're just wanting plumb in your area there are many avenues. All comes down to what you want.
Dude I can’t say it enough, I’m so proud of you and what you’ve accomplished thus far. I remember watching you before I started my journey, and now, here I am fulfilling the vision I had for my life. It’s a trip bro. I love what we do as plumbers, and even more so as the other skilled trades. Our work is dirty, it’s mental and physical, and we sacrifice our health along the way in order to keep others safe and secure. If I could make every trade easier, I would, but that’s a challenge that is ultimately dictated by the individual.
Really love hearing this! Super encouraging! And yes thanks for offering your view point and showing others it's legit work. Really glad.its working out for you so far and you are keeping with the tools! Thanks for sharing
Tough to say. It's more technical at times on both sides. It's more dirty on both sides. It's more hard on the body on both sides. It's really a matter of what you want to deal with on a daily basis! Great question!
@@JoonRhee ok ok this is actually cool, I’m the second year apprentice that was helping out Andre for a bit in the shop. I used your older videos to learn offsets, takeoffs, and make up. I was just thinking wow this guy knows what he’s talking about imma subscribe and then I meet you in real life without noticing it was you on yt 🤣
@@JoonRhee elijah but close enough. its really cool watching older videos and learn from ur challenges. watching second year you and comparing it to myself makes me feel a lot better in the journey. I love the job that I do and the friends I'm making on he way
@@Yogurt589 damn! I knew it was an old testament name! Right on partner! Really glad you are gleaning from my journey! It's fun for me to look back too! See you around brother!
If you reuse it, do you need to cut part of the pipe back? Example: buddy use one for 8 years on his pool heater. He got rid of the pool so now buddy #2 wants to use it at his house to install a gas range
Howdy! Depends I guess. Once it's hooked up check for leaks. I would assume you don't have too but I'm not fully aware of those types of details. Good question!
Oh man. Been a while since I did this project. But yes you have to think righty tidy lefty loosey but as if you were putting the hose on the other side of the like from behind the firewall. So if you look at it and the way you're looking at it... In this case looking straight at the EGR you would spin it to the right to loosen it which is weird but that is great
Is there a formula for figuring out the take off of 22.5 degree black iron sw butt weld fitting? I know that for a 45 degree you can multiply it by .625 or split it 3 times and add the last and 3rd back number. Is there a simply way to figure 22.5s?
That seems more like a fitter question. They use butt weld fittings. We don't weld on our side. So I'm not aware of the thirds formula you mentioned. All I know is 2.61 is your constant for finding your travel piece. And than you subtract your take off. Thanks for the question!
@JoonRhee thanks for the video! It's very helpful and easy to understand. Once I figure out how to calculate the take off for the fitting ill be all set. Thanks for answering!
@@benni85 hey right on, glad to hear brother. I appreciate your help and thanks for reaching out. Trying to help out in any way I can and share the knowledge. Pass it on tag. You're it!
Good info. I just retired at the early age of 56 and looking to start a new career as a plumber. I still consider myself a youngster with some zip remaining in me, plus I've always had an interest in the plumbing trade. I definitely need to brush up on my math though, as for mechanical aptitude I'll be fine since my previous years were surrounded by trades tools, rigging, welding, cranes, power lift devices. etc etc. Problem is demand right now is slow but I'm hoping something will materialize soon.
Way to go! Nothing like starting a new journey! Hope there does happen to be opportunities soon! Thanks for sharing and dropping line! Keep us in the loop
Would you be willing to do an example of an isometric drawing for a plumbing plan? I have to do this in my first term of schooling in ontario and confused on how to begin,
I’ve gone through the process of applying for an apprenticeship through the union. Waiting on a call today to see if I get a second interview. Honestly terrified lol I worry about the remaining time I’ll have left for myself after work and school and stuff. Obviously the pay off is well worth it. I just worry a lot
I would say it's good to be nervous but trying to manage worry is not easy brother for sure. But good for you. Hopefully you did well and getting the second interview would be nice and keep us in the loop. Hope you find some good information and value in this page
@@williamphillips-ki1vt whatabama, sorry to hear that and yeah it's not easy to get in brother. That's probably the hardest part and then sticking with it. It was the two hardest things for sure. Keep trying to keep your head up
Thank you and hopefully this lets us take a moment to reflect on who we are and I'll think about doing a live stream. I don't know what I would talk about so we'll see. Thanks for the support
I'll be straight up. My dad always kept in shape and that kind of inspired me to stay in shape most of my life. Do you need to be in shape for this job? I recommend it. Are there proper ways to do things? Yes, always. Most of the injuries that the old timers talk about are preventative. I never let any old guy in the trade. Tell me how to use my body because I knew it was best. Is it harder on the body? Sure, it will take a toll on you. Sure, but it's manageable and it won't take you out of the game. But if you don't take care of your body now, it's for sure going to ruin your body even more. That's really all I can say. Good question, thanks for asking
