Pre-facelift with the EA888 2.0 was the peak Polo GTI. It was still affordable and still had the same grunt as the new one, with a better sound, and buttons in the interior.
The 1.8t Ea888.3 has the dq200 box lots of problems. Developed by Luk it is a dry box vs the classic Dq250 six speed can take 600 nm in golf trim. The choice is clear prefacelift 2.0 gti.
A fully speced polo gti like this has a price of about 580k new from a vw dealership other dealerships are trying their luck pushing the prices up by up to 100 over msrp. That being said, lots of peoples are steered away from the 1.8 polo gti because if you look at the dry clutch gearbox too hard, it’ll break.
holy crap that price of the new one i would get a C63 and have change for maintenence cost lol.. but it is an amazing upgrade from the older. the second hand market is your oyster with money like that i think. But this is new and theres the reason people buy.
Mod for mod the 6c GTI 1.8tsi is faster than the new polo GTI...due to it having the conventional ea888.3 vs the ea888.3B in the newer car and the weight
The new one has the same DSG as the golf 7.5 GTI so very reliable...the older one has the dry clutch which while still relatively reliable just can't handle as much torque as the newer one so not ideal if you want to tune
Had the 6C GTi, lots of fun and very quick however the dry clutch and gearbox proved to be very troublesome with a few mods. Went through 2 gearboxes and 3 clutches in the 4 years that I owned it.
While i know it isnt the strongest gearbox...I think that's more to do with your tuner as i know lots of people running stage 2 with high mileage and no issues
Im still here driving my 9n3 gti and loving it every day.its not nearly as fast as the new ones.but stil has a 1.8 and at stage 2 it almost makes 400nm and is realy quick.and it weighs like 300kg less than the new one for waaaaay cheaper.could never spend that much for a polo
I agree it’s overpriced, but I think you guys are being a bit disingenuous. It’s as if you want to dislike it, because of the price. I’ve personally sat in both generations and the new one is much more refined - from a suspension and NVH perspective. It’s also got much better technology. It’s a clear upgrade. However, for that money (R600k), if you’re willing to try the second hand market you can find a better low mileage performance car (Golf 7.5, Megane RS, etc.) that’s still under warranty - which is the most important thing. I also think the pre-facelift is worth a look at, for lower money - they’re indistinguishable from a power and platform perspective.
I think if you really want 1.. order from VW and be patient.. no need to pay so much more to get it immediately.. also.. in that price bracket, nothing out there in a brand new hot hatch that can beat it.. if you going pre owned though.. MK7.5 GTI FTW.. Golf just does it all better.. I had the pre-face-lift 2.0T.. it was an amazing car.. I also had the twin charged 1.4.. they very different cars.. unfortunately cars are becoming really expensive.. and its across all brands.. you need to really think carefully about what you buying when spending that kind of money.. I'm noticing many of us can't keep up anymore.. once a new model is out, it's beyond reach
I had the prevous gen 6R polo gti DSG. it had the 1.4TSI motor, but otherwise identical to the old one in this. lovely car. but dynamically it was just too boring. nice daily though. Lots of problems, not just the motor.
@@bayandamokoena4882 don't even look at it the 1.4tsi is nothing like the 1.8/2.0tsi ea888.3 in the newer polo gti's...it can barely even handle the power it comes with from factory
No, so the non facelift looks similar to the new one. The old polo in the video is the 6R, I wanted a big difference to see if this new one really is an improvement
Sjoe niyaaz. Here in Durban have seen many that are under the R580k mark . So R650 k makes me feel it’s over priced, having said that - what’s your replacement if this is deemed over priced . There is nothing in the segment that compares . I’d still buy it even if ppl will tell me - u driving a half a bar polo ….lol😔
We buy cars for ourselves and not anyone else. Trust me, this facelift is awesome. Buying new always comes with peace of mind. You will enjoy every km driving the facelift. Its beautiful in person too. Go for it if you're considering one. But get from VW dealership. Non VW dealerships taking big chances and putting up the price by 50k to 100k.
don't forget the old 1.8 had the crap dg200 dry clutch which will break easily the new 2.0l polo's has the dq250 wet clutch which is super stronger and can handle much more power with disintegrating like the DQ200 in the 1.8 gti
Those buttons are really boring I must say I love to feel the German quality on buttons while you move your fingers on them and actually touching them.
Greeting the guests for the camera is a little cheesy, you are already in his car so you must have greeted him already. Otherwise, keep it up with the great content!
@HFG 😂🤣😂 you clearly know nothing and have 't driven any good cars. Polos aren't even as giod as boring Golfs ,are for kids and are crap to drive. To compare them to an STi or RS is laughably stupid. Polos may feel great when you are 17 but when you have driven actually decent cars you wouldn't ever buy a Polo. They are at the bottom of the junior hot hatch pile.
@HFG no i own both cars, a 6c gti stage 2 260hp/400nm, and a Sti 2004 blobeye with 400whp and 510nm . The gti is fast faster than a stock R but not as fast as my sti. Although its a great car the polo to.
