solid track, a radio friendly lead single is such a good move. the one off of her previous album was too distorted for the average listener to get into / enjoy.
To be fair, when your entire career is centered around being "unsafe," and that's what your fans come to expect, then perhaps being "safe" is actually the boldest move to make.
I don't mind Poppy making more mainstream music. This song - along with everything else she's done - is absolutely amazing. Mother never disappoints 🔥🔥‼️‼️
It's very much a straight down the line nu-metal track for me, kinda nostalgic, zig for me took a lot of risks, with the kinda harsh minimalistic industrial/dark pop sound, i liked it a lot but loads of people didn't seem to know what to make of it, this is more digestible and nicely different to zig
Yeah, rather unusual sound for her. Good track but I hope she'll have a good number of more experimental songs on the rest of the album. I adore the I Disagree and Zig albums.
I wondered why the tones sounded so familiar and polished and wasn't surprised to see Jordan worked on this. guitars and song structure reminded me a ton of curse by architects and now I know why haha
The chorus is a bit lacking but overall I like the song, it still has those special Poppy elements and I always love hearing her scream. She needs a good generic radio hit at this point, she's been around for a long time and doing heavier music for a while and this might help her get a little more recognition.
THANK YOU Im not the only one who thinks this music sound very standard to modern metal stadards! it's not bad in any way but i didn't found the spark of VAN or Suffocate
No harm having a straight up, undisputed banger every now and then to act as an "in point" for the more adventurous stuff. Nice Shirley Mason chest voice lower range in the verse and the high bit switching down to a scream at the end will be great live. There is nothing safe about the vocals. Also.... this really got into my head (the chorus!) , and there are some fun meta references......
The mix/production is great, which was lacking from Flux and Eat, and it's much less mainstream-pop than Zig. Closer to the Choke/I-Disagree I first fell in love with ... but I was almost expecting (hoping for) a wacky middle-8 with chicken-pickin banjo or a basoon-solo or something.
I enjoyed the chorus, but I agree, it was a little to radio friendly and safe, and lyrically kind of generic, but I LOVED the rest of the song. Everything surrounding the chorus was great.
i think zig album was safe. im just glad she is still rocking. i think the chorus is the commercial part but the rest is great. i love that she has a signature scream. that little whine or whale at the end of a scream.
Shes basicaly the most versatile and unpredictable artist goong today.... maybe ever actually. She cant keep shocking everyone with each release. Eventually something is gonna be "safe". Maybe its time for het do to something a little more accessible to the masses. Ahe deserves mainstream exposure
I suppose for her it is "safe", but I gotta admit I'm loving this heavier direction from her. I applaud her adventurous dark pop side, but it didn't always work for me.
Please don't hate on this criticism; only because I felt weird listening to the song; it did not feel like a banger to me like most people say My criticism is towards Fish not Poppy, she is incredibly cool. The lyrics seemed like they were put together because they rhymed well? As for the beat, Jordon is incredibly well at creating breaks and riffs and it can become almost to clean? For reference: In the Punk Rocks Podcast with Jordon Fish he himself mentioned, he goes for lyrics or essentially words that sound well together and its enough for him to make a song out of. In an interview with Oliver Sykes they also expressed wanting "rawness, less symmetry." And continued to say "having mastered polish already, they wanted everything in the red, “cranked up to 11." Which says a lot if you listen to Architects new song Curse how well manicured it is. At the moment Jordon's production is what the bands he is currently working with need. And I can't deny his talent. He holds some responsibility for BMTH success. But I am afraid we will continue to see "safe" for his future productions? I am afraid to see, clean music // safe // to later tired.
