Because Neal liked my comment about it, I think the two crew members holding each other on the line 'the monster that always draws near' and who are protecting each other while the ship is flying from the wind bag are Perimedes and Elpenor!
Banger choice to have Ody jump for the bag. It always felt a little too goofy/cocky for me- closest I got to liking it was Gigi’s knife throw version, but this one blows that out of the water. So epic.
I think one cool detail is that ody try to go save his man, but Eurylicus stop him from getting in the water along with another crew member. I think this shows how Epic Odyseus is not the same as Hommer Odyseus and he is ready to sacrifice himself for the crew. At the same time this detail work so well with puppeteer song when Odyseus us ready to go and save his man from Circe, but Eurylicus goes and tell him to live them and run. Another nice detail is the fact that Ody lost the bag. That gives some understanding on why he did not open the bag until that last moment and give such thing movement
One little detail I like about Ruthlessness is in the song itself. When Poseidon is destroying the ships, there's 11 lines total during that sequence, 4 "ruthlessness is mercy upon our-"s and 7 "Captain!"s And just how many ships did Poseidon destroy? 11 out of the 12 in Odysseus' fleet.
( This is only an opinion ) About Odysseus not giving a proper '' sorry '' I personnally think Ody actually did the right thing because in ancient Greece '' Apologia '' means to explain ones self or a speech in one's own defence so he did what Poseidon asked. I think what pissed off Poseidon is the fact that Ody didn't learn ANYTHING from what he had been saying from the beginning ' Ruthlessness is mercy ' and if Ody thought that after everything's he has done, he'd let them go after what Ody and some of his men had done then Ody was naive hence why he said '' The line between naivety and hopefullness is almost invisible '' and I believe that the apology was just a test and Ody failed it.
i very much agree with this take, adding in that I think poseidon might have responded to something like "your son got in our way. We did what was nessecary and would again" Like that seems to be the attitude Poseidon preaches so i figure he might have responded to it (tho still unlikely)
Oh i would love to, but that's already my favorite ruthlessness animatic and i've watched it many times, so I don't think my reaction would be very exciting XD
( Sorry if it's very long but due to my ADHD I tend to rant when I am passionate about something 😂 ) Yeah I also think Poseidon would have smitted them out of existence anyway too especially with the song ' Get In The Water ' and I think the only reason he took revenge to begin with was for his reputation and that's it I mean one of his line is literally '' I've got a reputation, I've got a name to uphold, so I can't go letting you walk or else the world forgets I'm cold '' so yeah that line pretty much speaks for itself. Poseidon only did it because in others eyes he could be seen as ' weak ' for leaving a mere human who hurt his son alive, we as the audience know that Ody gave his name and address to Polyphemus out of pure sadness and anger after Athena tried to convince him to kill Polyphemus. ( Again that's my opinion because if you pay attention to the lyrics : Ody was about to leave without any further interaction with Polyphemus but Athena didn't want that because him killing Polyphemus would earn her even more praises as her Warrior Of The Mind would be seen as a prodigy for being able to do that as he's only a human but Ody saw no true reason to do kill Polyphemus and he was right : - Polyphemus was bling so he wasn't a threat anymore and he didn't know Odysseus' name but it still pissed Ody off that all Athena, her friend, could think of was the praise she could receive ( even though I believe she still cared about him ) especially when Ody had just lost one of his best friend, Polites was the first men to die under his command, and Ody snapped and decided to teach Polyphemus a lesson : Be mercifull and remember my name ) but to Poseidon and other beings it looked like a mere human hurt the son of Poseidon and then told him his name as a way of daring Poseidon and of showing he doesn't fear Poseidon's wrath which is why Poseidon had to take actions.
I don't mind long comments at all i know how it is ;) However its late for me so i'll keep short and say that i pretty much agree with everything you said, i just tried to point out that Poseidon likely would have responded better to a ruthless respons then a pleading one, but like you said, get in the water basically spells it out
If you notice, Ody DIDN'T apologize. He made an excuse. Poseidon didn't care WHY he did it. He just wanted a "sorry" for FUCKING BLINDING HIS KID. Odysseus couldn't even give him that. That smile wasn't nervousness, it was the face of a man used to using wit to get out of things. And like how Polyphemus didn't fall for his fake charm, neither did Poseidon.
@@user-mv8yp9sl5j oh I have my own take on this, which might be a bit hot. I think Odysseus makes an indirect apology, but it's the way he does it that Poseidon doesn't like. He's been preaching the entire song to be ruthless and do what it takes to survive. I don't think Poseidon cares about Polyphemus, he basically says he'd have been fine if Ody killed him. I think what Poseidon wanted was something like "I did what was necessary and would do it again, I'm sorry your son got in our way, but that's what happens when you do that" but instead he gets "we were just trying to survive and be nice". Which is more in line with what Poseidon is preaching? Like Poseidon has like 100s of cyclops children and doesn't seem to care about them that much, it's just a principle really.
@@DarthEdgyBoyI never understood why people think the Greek Gods don't care about their children? At the very least in Homeric canon it's stated that they actually do. Even Ovid who tends to portray the gods in the worst light admits that the Gods would have made all their children immortal and ageless if the Fates didn't stop them.
@@fbiuzz I mean they typically take a very absent approach, there's very little good parenting. You'd be better of if you killed my son also speaks to some lack of care. It feels very much like a midevil lord to their kids. Sure it's nice that they do well, you'll help them out of a pinch, and if someone hurts them you'll use all your resources to hunt them down to show you aren't weak. Poseidon even implies this in Get In The Water, when he says that he can't let Odysseus go or the world forgets that he's not to be messed with.
@@DarthEdgyBoy idk if you've already been told this but Poseidon actually did care about Polyphemus, it's why he would've preferred Odysseus killed him actually. In ancient Greek, dying a warrior's death was an incredibly high honor. Odysseus is a king, a well known name, and great grandchild to one of the gods. For him to not have killed Polyphemus and instead left him blind and bragging on it was an act of disrespect and robbing Polyphemus's chance of ever dying an honorable death and shamed him in the process. He was fighting on his son's behalf because to disrespect his son in such a way was unforgivable. Especially since it reflects on him too.
