Positano is not an Instagram sensation. Positano was well known in the world long before Instagram became a thing. Not everything in the world is about social media.
Wow thanks for that insight genius, literally everyone thought Positano was made 3 years ago specifically with Instagram in mind until you corrected us all.
That's a very normal thing, like going to the supermarket and complaining about the long line, or complaining about the traffic jam you're in (even though you're part of it). You expect people to be happy when they go somewhere and it's overly crowded??
@@Kprywatne well sorta but at market usually because they don't open enough lines or traffic because of accident..these places are the most popular in the world so you expect loads of people and deal with it
This is why a lot of people are bothered by tourists. You jumped a fence, which is there for a reason and you parked on the main road also in a weird way with little visibility. Now imagine a 100more people with the same behavior visiting every single day, doing stupid stuff like that, well it adds up real quick. Be more mindful and respectful of local laws, customs and just be a more decent human being, please.
@@tomasgordillo I do agree its good to be respectful and considerate of others. I just didn't think it seemed that bad. Like lecturing him to be a "more decent human being." As if he stole something or slapped someone for no reason - wasn't that bad was it?
People think they're so perceptive when they say this but it's actually an incredibly stupid. One of the MAIN challenges of tourism is finding the best time and place to go somewhere and avoiding the crowds. It's the number one challenge of touristic travel. So of COURSE they will mention it. There are many places I would love to see in the world, but won't go because of the insane numbers of tourists. I rather wait for the surge to die down or go somewhere else, so it's good to know which places to avoid.
A social media narcissist complaining about others doing exactly what he is doing. Makes sense - in his alternate reality fantasy world which revolves around him, and him alone.
@@brandonryan8143 At at least one point in the video they complain about too many tourists. I think that is what they were saying is like "How are you going to complain about too many tourists when you are in fact a tourist and part of the problem of too many tourists.". The IRONY.
If travelling on a BUDGET, try what we did. It wasn't mentioned in the video but there is a fast ferry service between Positano, Capri, and most of the other cities along the coast. Many of the other cities are just as beautiful as Positano with much cheaper accommodation and you can take a day trip to Positano using the fast ferry. Bonus water views included in your ferry ride! We rented a place in Capri that was 1/4 the price of Positano but just as beautiful! Save money and hassles by not renting a car. Rent a place in town and walk to the ferry dock and everywhere else. We also spent a week at a cabin in a campground that was much cheaper than a hotel/airbnb. Amalfi Coast is still an expensive destination though.
I agree with you. We stayed reasonably in Sorrento visited that city while staying in the mountain (www.albergovillafiorita.com/ )overlooking the city. It was very inexpensive. We then took advantage of the public transportation and went to Positano and Amalfi. I have also taken the ferry from Napoli(Naples) to Capri. My point is you do not need to stay in Positano to enjoy the Amalfi Coast.
this is one of my favorite if not my all time favorite place in the world. i recommend coming here in late spring to avoid more tourists. many italians also come here during the summer from other areas to vacation so it’s extra crowded. late spring is beautiful, you can still go in the water and avoid more crowds. many of the locals i spoke to love the tourism. it keeps their businesses flourishing. i think there’s a mistake in calling it an instagram sensation. it is not popular because it is an instagram sensation. it became one because it is beautiful and an amazing place to come to. social media doesn’t rule everything.
if you don't like touristy places, why do you go as a tourist in first place? Are you any better than other tourists just because you got a RU-vid channel 😂
This part of Italy and the islands around it are spectacular. Its like you are living a dream and you cannot believe how much beauty is in front of you. I wish I had been blessed to be born in such a magical place, the people that live there already live in paradise.
@@naghmeAdventures She might be Mexican / Latino. If she speaks Spanish then speaking Italian should be easy for her, both are a similar languages with the same origins (romance languages evolved from Latin).
I never knew what an aeperol spritz was but I had one last year in Milan by the Duomo and it was the most refreshing, fresh, and vibrant drink ever. I don't even like alcohol. I even tried to make it again at home in USA but it wasn't the same. The aperol spritz is amazing!
Well that doesn’t make sense...while I’m sure locals might get annoyed with tourists, business owners probably like all the money the tourists spend there!
Positano was a port of the Amalfi Republic in medieval times, and prospered during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. By the mid-nineteenth century, however, the town had fallen on hard times. More than half the population emigrated, mostly to America. Positano was a relatively poor fishing village during the first half of the twentieth century. It began to attract large numbers of tourists in the 1950s, especially after John Steinbeck published his essay about Positano in Harper's Bazaar in May, 1953: "Positano bites deep", Steinbeck wrote. "It is a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.
Peter N And until the 60' and maybe even the early 70's it might have been true. Now it's a nightmare. The worst tourist trap in Italy, and I am Italian and know the place well.
@@ODC88888 yea you feel this way because it’s near to your home and you’re in Italy surrounded by amazing places. For those of us who don’t have places like this within driving distance , it looks like a dream place
I live in Naples (about an hour and a half away from Positano) and it doesn't matter how many times I go there, I'm always amazed by the beauty of Positano. Yes it is touristy but you went there in August (i suppose?) and in Italy everywhere is crowded in August. Yes it's expensive if you stay ONLY on the main beach and do the things that any other tourist does (such as eating in some of the most expensive restaurants of the area). There's another beach in Positano called "Spiaggia di Fornillo" at about 5 minutes away from Marina Grande (the main beach) where sun beds are way cheaper, so if you're travelling on a budget, you should definitely check it out and if you don't want to pay a beach club, there's also a quite big public beach ;) Positano is definitely not one of the cheapest destination to travel to but if you ask the locals and if you move just a little from the main beach you can find many places that are not as expensive and touristy.
Federica Del Vecchio Thank you for this post! I love Positano and visit every June for a month. Fornillo beach is my favorite and I have connected with so many locals and feel like family every year I arrive. Anyone will tell you that August is the worst time to visit the coast as it is filled with tourists and other Europeans who are vacationing.
DIMITRISCOBE I think Positano is amazing all year long, however during winter many restaurants and attractions are closed so if you want to have an immersive Positano experience, I recommend going in June or September (in july and august it’s very crowded). If you want to go from Naples to Positano, you have to take a train to Sorrento and, from there, a bus that goes directly to Positano. As far as I know there are no buses from Naples.
I love how the uncultured people comment on how “bad” Italy is. Italy isn’t an Insta sensation. It has been one of the most popular places in the world for centuries. Don’t comment on Italy if your not Italian and don’t know anything
When I went to Positano, we honesty avoided the main beach and went to the "local" beach and it was awesome! We had a view of a small castle, went cliff jumping, and just simply sunbathed all day. Ya'll need to go to Capri next!!
Next time go there without filming or taking a picture. Just enjoy it for your own pleasure. You’ll create real memories. Not fabricated ones for money.
@@ImNotADeeJay from sorrento, its about an hour by bus. Been there the Last 2 weeks, and in my opinion sorrento really is the best place to get a Hotel because of All the connections. We stayed in sant agnello, Walked to the Port in half an hour, and were able to take ferries to capri, positano, amalfi, ischia and naples. Or got to the Train Station in 5 Minutes and were able to See every city between sorrento and naples. Its really beautiful there.. already missing it
2019 I was blessed to experience Italy. It is gorgeous and an experience like few others. I would do anything to return. Any negatives are so outweighed by the history and beauty of the region. Amalfi coast cannot be given any justice in photos. It the total experience. I say this as a man who pushed an 80 year old woman around Italy so she could go home for her birthday.
I went to Amalfi instead of Positano and it was so chill, way more affordable and just as beautiful, the only issue was that the ferry to Capri was over an hour and really bad for sea sickness - but I’d choose Amalfi over Positano any day!
Dude... just quick tips.. I' m form Salerno... best way to visit the AMALFI COAST is to stay/base in CETARA , closer to Salerno... From there you can have the best/same food you get in Positano/Amalfi just on 1/3 of the price and just 1/3 of the Foreigners TOURIST you ll find in Sorrento/Positano/Amalfi.. From Cetara you can take a early morning boat that goes to Minori (3€ trip 20 minutes boat ride) to visit bit of the city and to try " SAL DE RISO " pastry which is one of the most famous pastry chef in whole Italy and you only find him there... From Minori you can take another boat which takes you to AMALFI and is like 8€ trip.... Noone of locals goes to Amalfi/Positano unless some special events because everyone here knows that you can get exactly or even better experience in places like Cetara ... Just advice! Peace!
@@Garglicious Thanks mate eheheh =D been traveled around and not living in my hometown since looong time but we used to go there everytime and know about the scammy things you can find in AMALFI ( LEMONADE 6-7 euro ) in Cetara you can get 3 or 4 for the same price... Plus CETARA is well known for their ALICI and COLATURA DI ALICI ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colatura_di_alici ) Freak me out the fact that people knows the whole coast only cuz of 2 BIG city when in reality there are like 10831 things to do better and cheaper...
@@peppazzzz I can't thank you enough for these tips .. I really hope i get to travel Italy by end of next year ! I love the Amalfi Coast but I think Sorrento has to be one of my favorite places! It’s a lot less crowded because it’s not as condensed, but still has a similar charm to Positano! Also still pretty close so you can definitely take a day trip to Positano!
@@Mikey-mb6lb Thank you for let us know about this, I am so concerned. Do you recommend all Positano and Capri as day trips from Napoli (no need for a night at Sorrento or something)? And by which mean of public transport ? Many thanks
REVO_MOVO use public transport from Napoli to Positano. Day trip in Positano only as it’s very beautiful. Sorrento is a little bit boring, not much to do only to pick transport to Amalfi. Capri is separate so you should use a public ferry from Napoli for a whole day.
Stayed in Sorrent, Capri, Amalfi and Positano and don't think it is worth the hype at all. Went to Liparian islands last year (way better) and cinque Terre 3 ago.
I stayed in Salerno which is a bit of a hidden gem. High speed train from the rest of Italy stops there, 40 min local train to Pompeii, 1 hour to Napoli. High speed ferries to Amalfi, Positano and Capri for a handful of Euro's. For scenic views and photos the true star of the Amalfi coast in my opinion is Ravello.
If you are planning to drive the Amalfi Coast, here go some tips: - Avoid July and August. September is a very good month to go, cheaper, less crowded and you can still enjoy the beach. - Rent the smallest car you can find. It will be easier to drive and park it in such narrow streets and roads. - If you are driving eastbound from Naples (likely), Vietri Sul Mare is the point of return. Salerno has not much to see. - Don't miss Sorrento, Amalfi, Ravello or the Fiordo di Furore . - The coastline is breathtaking, but if you drive inland there are some hidden gems worth exploring . - Avoid driving in Naples if you can. Is sheer chaos. - In Naples, you can enjoy the best pizza and the best coffee. Enjoy.
I finally started my channel for travel and it’s been a nervous journey so far haha. The community has been awesome so far and I look forward to this process. Recently went to Italy and it was an amazing experience. Sorrento was my favorite part!
Positano is absolutely stunning. Way before Instagram mentionned it and posted the same points of view, I went there on sunset and it was so enchanting. Though it is expensive (shops and restaurants) it is so worth the trip because it represents the Italian cultural epitome in one place. I fucking loved it.
Just leave Amalfi Coast alone! Go back to Bali and enjoy it! I go there sometimes twice a year to adore it! Even people at this part of Italy are not the nicest I just sit there in Sorrento-Positano-Ravello and happy to alive! You want to be a sensation by this video but you are not ! Amalfi Coast beats you! Stopped watching it after 3 minutes as it was clear you really wanted to find something wrong there!
I am back from a trip to Amalfi Coast..believe me, no photo can express the real beauty of this place and Positano especially.. how the light changes on the houses..it's really incredible...you feel like in a postcard... I highly recommend the visit . 🥰🥰
Of all the three towns we visited, I loved Ravello the best. And I agree with you about pebble beaches. It hurts a lot specially because I am so used to sand beaches.
It's absolutely worth it! We went on a day trip before social media. There's no point in driving there. You can take buses from other towns, ferries, or hike. It's gorgeous.
I spent 3 months in Italy back in 2000, including two weeks on the Almafi coast. The place was great and very reasonable as was the other places I visited(Tuscany, Florence). Of course this was before social media and this high tech world. I think the combination of social media, this younger generations emphasis on travel rather than saving for a house and getting married and the advent of the Euro has made these formerly undiscovered places expensive and crowded. When I travel now I try to find spots that have yet to be “discovered” and blogged about which is almost impossible.
Loved the video!! But there are also other cheaper options to make the trip. You can get there by using the Sita Bus which leaves from Sorrento and stops on every town across the Amalfi Coast plus you can use the ticket for 24 hours. The ride on boat can be done in a shared excursion, that way you get way more better prices. For hotel options, Praiano is just about 20 mins by local bus to Positano and way cheaper too! I preferred the swim in Amalfi Beach but a lot of it is private too.
Criossants in Italy are actually called Cornetti and while they might look similar to their buttery French counterparts, they are distinctly different. I ate a ridiculous amount while I was in Italy, and so do Italians actually as cornetti are a customary breakfast (accompanied by a cappuccino). ;)
Something to keep in mind as well is that it's a bit tricky to access the Amalfi coast. We were staying in Rome, took a train to Naples, and had booked a private transfer to Positano (which ended up being a van, a bus, then a car --ugh). That travel time took about 4 hours from Rome. On the way out of Positano back to Rome we wanted to save money and took the bus to Sorrento. But to get to the bus stop we had to hike a ton of stairs with our luggage. Then we took the train from Sorrento to Naples, and another train from Naples to Rome. Just kind of a pain :) But probably worth it if you're staying several days!
And the worst of all is that she is peruvian and speaks spanish, anyone thats speaks spanish can understand what mamma mia means, its bassically the same words!!!
I just got back from visiting sorrento, Pompeii, almafi and positano! We have literally been doing the Sam trip gutted I didn’t see you! I think with most tourist spots in Italy you are always going to pay a lot. Positano highlights that. I will say sorrento was cheaper imo and just as pretty. I also visited Cinque terre further up the coast this summer and I preferred that to positano! Great video again brother
Capricci makes good pizza and yes Positano is expensive. It's a nice place to visit. My family lives there so often I visit for longer periods at a time. Personally, I wouldn't live there. Sorrento in my eyes has the a great mix between tourism and normal city sceneries❤️
Capri and the Amalfi coast is a Luxus destination. You can only really enjoying it actually if you are rich, staying in expensive hotels and have a boat. If you wanna go there on a budget, it can be a bit challenging.. so better going there out of summer
I don't understand why everyone goes there and skips Procida! Procida is way prettier (even more Instagram worthy) way cheaper and way less crowded 😍Sorrento is also lovely! I totally agree about Italian beaches... even the private beaches suck and they're expensive. I don't mind paying for something that is good or at least decent but those beaches really disappointed me 😒(the rest was great though!)
I really don’t care for travel videos because I like to show up to places and just kinda figure stuff out but I gotta admit this one was super helpful.
i know people have short attention spans nowadays, but for vacation videos i would say the frames should be longer on screen so we can take it in bro. i appreciate your effort in editing tho
Such a beautiful place, I can’t wait to go one day. A lot of people giving him a hard time for the “too many tourists” comments but everyone that travels wants to avoid the crowds.
I grew up in Europe and it seems that almost everyone here in LA spent their summers in Almafi Coast. Beautiful indeed but I don't think it's worth the hype (I'm talking about Almafi not Italy!). Spain and Greece have beautiful islands too with spectacular crystal clear beaches. Portugal also has beautiful sea towns like Porto, and let's not forget the beautiful Croatia!
Love all of it! We use the term “Touristy” in my opinion to mean Typical Tourist trap/experiences. An experienced traveller or someone looking for a more authentic trip, loves tips on how we can take in the beauty and culture without the tour boat, rush to see attractions, pay too much! I love limoncello! and Aperol spritz is my fav! Drink this all the time in Munich! Great job on this.
This seems to be a very nice place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Amazing landscapes, and amazing video! Thanks for inspiring me again Christian! So looking forward to your online course! Have a wonderful rest of the day
Italy is AMAZING! The Amalfi Coast is more stylish and at times luxurious, so if you want more of a scrappy budget thing you may want to head to Spain or Sicily.

Hey Lost if you want to see something really spectacular go to Salento there are tons of things you can see there. Salento is a vast area in the Puglia region (Italy) and it's much cheaper than Capri, Positano and Amalfi Coast in general and the food is amazing. I hope you will consider it. P.s. I really like your video so keep up with the good work and enjoy your life as usual man :)
Just discovered your channel doing some research for my upcoming Italy trip in June. Your videos are damn good man! This was both helpful and entertaining. And the cheek in tongue humor works. Keep it up
I actually did the Amalfi Coast tour starting from Salerno, then to Amalfi, then to Positano and ended in Sorrento where I stayed a couple of nights. I actually love Positano and the beach restaurants are cool. It is a bit of climb to get back to your transport though from the beach areas. The Amalfi route is windy and narrow, and lots of cars everywhere. Agree that it is very touristy though
Great info and visual with a cheeky twist…went to Positano today on a pretty cheap cruise tour from Sorrento 55 euro including Amalfi , thanks for this fun and accurate guide, keep going all the best, Bel from Australia

I’ve been there, most amazing place in the world. Embrace the culture and the scenery... the locals make it “touristy” to make money... its their job after all.
Did you go to Brazil? Probably you should consider go to the coast: Rio Dr Janeiro, Salvador Bahia, Recife, Pernambuco. Maybe you would enjoy👍 diversity of culture in one country , food & people .

The Amalfi coast has become the Disneyland for foreign tourism, but we Italians don’t have vacation there, and I’ve rarely meet persons who have been there. There are cheaper locations with the same beauty from Northern to Southern Italy. Just get out from the Amalfi’s image and explore more our country!
@A R Hello. No, Portofino (which is on the coast of Northern Italy) is for wealthy Italians, generally from Milan. People from the North love to spend their vacation in the coastal villages of Liguria, Southern France (e.g.Côte d'Azur), Northern Tuscany (e.g. Forte dei Marmi), Puglia and Sardinia (both ideal for fun). Beware, since it can be costly (!). Other less expensive destinations are the regions of Emilia-Romagna (e.g. Rimini, Cattolica etc.) They are ideal for families as well) and Marche. There is also the percentage who prefers the mountains and goes to the regions of Veneto, Trentino-Alto Adige and Valle d'Aosta. I am not saying the prestigious names like Portofino, Cinque Terre, Capri, Positano and Amalfi aren't worth it. They are beautiful destinations, but in my opinion, too much romanticised and not visited by Italians. At the end, it depends on what the tourist seeks.
@@rayrapphaelbisnar Have a look for the Christmas markets in the Northern cites, including Bolzano, Merano (in the Region of Trentino-Alto Adige). The atmosphere is very nice. You can ski in those areas as well.
