Im a retired Officer and an atheist, this behaviour is terrible, I have never stopped someone from politely preaching their beliefs and had a great relationship with the local places of worship. This is a free country with freedom of speech. Im embarrassed to see this.

The officer had a bad attitude, but the complaints would be more if it was not Jesus that was being preached. You don't get other religions with the exception of jehovas witness, and Mormons who force religion on others.

It is lawful to preach the gospel and hand out Christian literature on the streets to the general public without prior permission. The European Convention on Human Rights grants the right to freedom of religious belief and freedom of expression. I, too, am a retired Police Officer. This Christian man is free to preach the Gospel. It is not illegal to offend someone. The Officer made no attempt to establish the facts and actually was quite rude.
@myleftfoot1201 What I think was significant in these circumstances was the gentleman offered the Police Officer copies of their Bible tracts that they were handing out to the public. The Officer rejected them. He should have accepted them and read their content. I wasn't there, so I'm not sure what the alleged 2 x complaints were. However, if the gentlemen were preaching accurately anything from the Bible, then none of it could have breached any of the public order act offences. There is a difference between causing "alarm and distress" and merely being offended by what someone has said. Recent test cases where Christian preachers have been arrested, charged and subsequently acquitted prove consistently that many Police Officers lack the experience and judgement to deal with these complaints.

As a Christian, the Bible told us this would come to pass before the end days. So we've been fully aware of all these things happening in the world. Before you pass judgement on the officer, you need to understand exactly what they have been preaching. If they are threatening those who don't believe with eternal suffering and hell, that could be considered threatening behaviour. I certainly wouldn't want to hear someone threatening strangers with such things. I'm not saying they were, I'm just saying that based on this video alone, all those calling the officer a "disgrace" and a "fascist" need to understand the full context of the situation. The person saying "that's not good policing" is an idiot for that. Being a police officer doesn't require taking religious literature. Religion is a personal opinion not a legal requirement. We've had a similar case where I live where seemingly innocent looking people were recorded preaching the Bible and making direct threats to those who walked past of eternal suffering in hell. It's crazy that police officers are allowed to talk to people like this. I work in a hospital and if I talked to my patients with such a tone I'd be suspended, and rightfully so.

I’ve heard some of these street preachers and the messages they preach don’t come from the bible. Screaming at people they are going to hell or are not good people because they don’t surrender to faith is inherently wrong. Faith should NEVER be thrust upon you by another person. It has to find you. The bible, and indeed any scripture, should be open to interpretation for every person. If people want to preach, do it in a church hall or allow people to approach you with questions

It’s funny because not long ago I had some religious people following me in town, i said to them no thanks, and they followed me wouldn’t leave me alone, so I had to tell them to fuck off, and get nasty with them just to get them to stop, it wouldn’t surprise me if these in the video are doing the same.
