Privatisation of PIA is the best solution if, - An entity is incurring losses worth billions of rupees consistently due to bad governance, corruption and inefficiency. - Despite huge support by the government, the services of PIA are of extremely poor quality. - If the cost of the subsidy - losses of PIA - is far more than the benefits accrued by the people who utilizes the services of PIA.

Its all about clash of ideologies, although this privatization is to compensate for the government but actual inclination of government of Pakistan towards government owned companies will offend our friends who love private owned businesses, they might think we are getting friends with the Left, our establishment wont upset western friends at all. Wish the reigns of government could be in the hands of leaders chosen by us, rather than some quasi-mulitary junta.

Pakistani elite doesn't really care about the country because of its identity confusion. In India also, the elite is globally minded, but the situation is (only) slightly better because of large conglomerates as well as the IT industry. Elite doesn't care => No tax/poor tax revenue => Government has little capital either for regular expenses or investment => Poor performance of governmental institutions => Leading to distress sales

Some of the discos are profitable like FESCO,GEPCO, MEPCO IESCO and LESCO these are profitable entities and must not be sold.

No dought privatisation of any government Asset is not a solution .we must upgrade or reorganised our country loss /deficit produceing intitution with new technology installation and made them profit oriented by skill people's .other wise we sell our huge intitution like Railways way,PIA ,Steelmill and etc on chep prices to any foreigners invester and use all money in unrealistic needs and again we Will stand another que and thinking about further privatise Other loss oriented institution.

the logic of the socialist on full display here, Pakistan is paying more than 50% of its budget on interest servicing exactly due to the policy of subsidising inefficient industries and resource procurement in the name of "macro economic" benefit, which is not being paid from taxes because the private economy is too small in the first place, but debt which is essentially taxation on the future private sector which doesnt even exist yet. he talks about airlines as being naturally monopolistic markets, yet airlines in the developed world have some of the smallest margins of any business, and provide significantly better quality and cheaper air travel than those provided by, for example, PIA. socialist produce arguments which sound nice on paper for those who feel exploited, but in reality, in two hundred years of modern economic practise have failed to yield any positive results. the public sector, especially for poor countries like Pakistan, should only exist for those services which the private sector morally cannot provide, i.e. defense, security, primary secondary education and health for the poor. pakistanis need to wake up and denounce socialism because it only serves those within the public sector, at the cost of every tax payer. why should a poor salaryman pay for the airfare for a service he might not even want to use, on a micro and macro level socialism is fundamentally coercive, it marries political power to economic power and exacerbates the aggregious corruption which is a hallmark of pakistnai politics.

Well argued.The state is required to give services ,and is not to be profit oriented. The state is required to thin out its administrative expenditures and improve on governance/expand tax basis and initiate meaningful land reforms,and address the issue of unbridled population growth.

No. Privitization is simply rich people trying to loot the commons. As an example, my state, decades back, used to have state run liquor stores that provided a steady income stream for the government so that people didn't have to pay as much in personal or property taxes. 'Privatization' minded people bought off the politicians, so they sold off the liquor stores, trading a one time slightly larger bump in income for that steady stream, and as a result, we then ended up having to cut public services, since those same 'privitization' people also fought tooth and nail against raising taxes on their business.
