Tony, Johanna, and Kira reunite to cover the second Vampire Chronicles movie that somehow manages to squeeze two Anne Rice books together. That's right its Queen of the Damned! In this movie review/podcast Tony will talk about how lame the movie is while Kira and Johanna defend it. Maybe we will find out if it is a guilty pleasure!
Follows the legendary vampire Lestat (Stuart Townsend), who has reinvented himself as a rock star in the contemporary American music scene. His music wakes Akasha (Aaliyah), the queen of all vampires, and inspires her desire to make Lestat her king. Akasha's malevolent power is so great that all the immortal vampires must stand against her if they want to survive. Meanwhile, a young London woman with a fascination for the dark side (Marguerite Moreau) falls in love with Lestat.

1:25:57 I never noticed until y'all pointed it out but Wally West on the flash tv show (kid flash) is another ginger replaced by a black guy. By the way it isn't really "people of color" that are replacing gingers, it's only black people specifically. There are no Latino or Asian actor replacing anyone

Little bits of Kira's conversation that tie together: The song that Marilyn Manson sang on the soundtrack is called Redeemer. Incidentally, Redeemer is the song playing on the TV with the mumbled opening about The Admiral's Arms. It's also the only song on the soundtrack that isn't available on Spotify. Which sucks, because Redeemer might be the sing best of the Lestat songs.

A few things I have to mention as both an Anne Rice super fan & a movie obsessive that Tony & the gang missed or weren’t sure of: Lestats sire in the books is called Magnus. He kidnaps Lestat, turns him then promptly throws himself in the fireplace leaving Lestat alone and confused. The guy Lestat kills at the beginning of the film (and book) is a drug dealer. In the book there’s a whole paragraph about how Lestat can feel the drugs (implied to be cocaine) in himself after drinking the dealers blood. And Lestats singing voice was done by John Davis from Korn. He also wrote & produced all the Lestat songs with James Shaffer & Brian Welch (the guitarist from Korn). He couldn’t appear on the Soundtrack release due to contractual reasons. At the time Davis was signed to Sony and the Soundtrack was published by Warner Music so he had Wayne Static (Static-X), Dave Draiman (Disturbed), Jay Gordon (Orgy), Chester Bennington (Linkin Park) & Marilyn Manson provide the vocals in his place.

Magnus, Marius, Mael, Maharet, Mekhare, Merrick those were the names starting with M. And don't forget the Mayfair Witches which crossover with the Vampire Chronicles characters at some point in the book. The character Stuart Townsend comes from those books specifically.

Don’t know if anyone had mentioned this, but Jonathan Davis from KoRn makes a cameo. The writer of most of the soundtrack and vocals in the movie. He’s the one trying to sell tickets to the main character.

I remember watching this with my mom, whose a fan of vampires from Universal, Hammer, and the non-sparkle kind. It was a fine film. Stuart Townsend is a fine actor, but not as great of a Lestat. The music is great though.

In 05/06 my parents begrudgingly allowed me to turn our basement into a hangout for me and all my goth friends. This included putting up tarps and spray painting edgy goth bullshit everywhere. My brood and I did this for after school for two weeks straight, and the Queen of the Damned soundtrack played in my stereo the entire time. Can't go to mom and dad's basement now without thinking of this movie and it's music.

I saw this in the theater with my friends and the moment **spoiler alert** Akasha dies, I got up and walked out while applauding! Aaliyah had a tremendous impact on my life, her music got me through very hard times and I couldn't even imagine my existence without her in it. She was just a gigantic talent and this movie was supposed to be the beginning of her legendary career. I still get sad when I think about what happened to her but I words can't express how happy I am that this movie exists! It's cheesy and silly but she blows it out of the water with her performance! I'm excited that you're talking about it because more people should see it and enjoy it for what it is and witness Aaliyah's other worldly presence! I'm sure many people have never seen or heard about it. My handle since day 1 has been Aaliyoda, she is a part of me and I will never forget her! She will always be my angel who will never grow old, she is forever young! 💗

The reason why her Cannon is so inconsistent is because she went through a lot of different phases in her life. She got her start writing pornography, I think her first fully published series was The Taking of Sleeping Beauty. When her daughter died, she got really heavy into the occult, and then in the last 10 years or so for life she became a born-again Christian. When you go through such wild changes in your beliefs, you're not going to be able to maintain the same character behavior from one book to the next. That's why her vampires are both at the same time erotic, and supposedly don't have sex. It's why villainous characters become a little more virtuous, and I would love to see the headcanon that goes on in her fanbase to weld her fictional books about Jesus to her vampire series

48:01 - If I remember correctly, the queen was stabbed and cut multiple times during the assassination attempt, and was bleeding all over the place. The spirit really liked blood, but since it was mostly incorporeal, it could only take small droplets. It was drawn to the queen’s wounds, and SOMEHOW, got up in there & incorporated itself into her bloodstream, eventually merging with her.

Listening to this podcast in Jan. '23. I searched for Lestat podcasts and this popped up. One fairly important note is that Enkil was the one who ordered his vizier Khayman to r*pe Maharet and Mekare, not Akasha. She didn't say anything to stop it, and she did become truly monstrous as a vampire, but the attack wasn't on her orders.

I just watched this for the first time a few months ago. I remember thinking wow this girl is pretty cute. I've heard of her I should watch more stuff with her. Then at the end credits it said like in memory of Aaliyah. So that was a sad day.

Bruce Spence is also Jessie's ancestor as he plays Mael, who was Akasha's and Enkil's vizier who raped Maharet. Mael is also the one who likes humans and doesn't like getting to know them before he kills them.

Mael is not Jessie's ancestor. He was a human druid who served in the grove where Marius first became a vampire (there was a vampire imprisoned underground beneath a tree that Mael and others thought of as a God and who they sacrificed humans to, but he was burnt and weak from when A & E were put in the sun. Marius was supposed to be his replacement, but he turned Marius and then threw himself in a bonfire as a diversion so Marius could escape. It was a whole thing). Mael was made a vampire later. Khayman was Akasha and Enkil's vizier and he is truly ancient. Akasha can't burn him. He was one of the first vampires to be turned after Akasha turned Enkil and from what I can recall, he turned both Mekare and Maharet.

Eddie Murphy in Vampire in Brooklyn was good though and Wes Craven directed it too. Blacula 1972 also was good. Tony can you review Blacula and Scream Blacula Scream next? Scream Factory released them on Bluray.

The film is a guilty pleasure, with an awesome soundtrack which is basically memed alot. I for some reason like inserting Blade aka Wesley Snipes into some vampire movies where he takes out some of these vampires, I just picture him taking out these vampires maybe he spares some and cures them.

@@HackTheMovies I started and couldn't finish the Van Helsing, Ghostbusters 2016, and Ghostbusters: Afterlife episodes. Kind of gave up after those, and probably wouldn't have clicked this one. It came up in the autoplay algorithm while I was busy doing something and I was pleasantly surprised.

1:15:02 OK with no context to the book, first, she tells a cult leader then she goes to the another continent to murder a bunch of pillagers and violators. Then they go to Haiti for some reason, (which shocked me in the Carib umbrella ) and call it place of Paradise may because it was ran by women

The Anne Rice Fan in me was driven crazy by the changes, The Vintage Rocker side of me and being an Aaliyah Fan I always been torn on this .I liked how it was like one big rock music video really enjoyed the music & Aaliyah and Stuart Townsend had great Chemistry in this. The costumes where cool.They made Stuart Townsend look like Villie Valo of H.I.M alot I noticed. How they ruined the book was so crazy lol. It's a guilty pleasure of mine too. It came out when I was a preteen I was the metalhead/goth too still am but took me till my late teens to watch as an adult it cracks me up so bad it's good.

I remember loving this movie and the soundtrack. My mom saw that I was into it and let me read her copies of the Anne Rice Vampire Trilogy. After reading the books, this movie wasn't as good as the book, but it's fine and fun.
