This was a year ago! I've said many "Alhamdulillah" when I listen to this lecture. Thank you, Shaykh Qadhi. I'm obliged to forward this knowledge, first and foremost, to my family and relatives.
Thank you Epic Masjid for such an informative video. May I suggest adding timelines to the future videos so viewers can jump directly to the questions they are interested in?
I could only memorize the short surahs in Juz amma... For example i do 10 ayat of surah AlQari'ah and 19 ayat of surah Al A'la .. i hope thats good enough ..
The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allâh, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allâh gives manifold increase to whom He wills. And Allâh is All-Sufficient for His creatures’ needs, All-Knower. [Surah Baqarah 2:261]
How will an ordinary person finish reciting Quran in 7 days or even a month? We have not memorized the Quran and it’s not easy for everyone to memorize the full Quran? So what to do?
1 - Whoever says SubhanAllahi wa biHamdihi (Glory be to Allah and Praise Him) a hundred times during the day, his sins are wiped away, even if they are like the foam of the sea [Sahih al-Bukhari; #7:168, Sahih Muslim; #4:2071] 2 - whoever says SubhanAllahi wa biHamdihi, Subhan-Allahi 'l-`adheem (Glory be to Allah, and Praise, Glory be to Allah, the Supreme) Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Two words are light on the tongue, weigh heavily in the balance, they are loved by the Most Merciful One " [Sahih al-Bukhari; #7:67, Sahih Muslim, #4:2071] 5
Qiam al Layl means the standing of the night. You can pray either in congregation or alone, but must make the recitation loooong. Prophet saw instructed to pray two by two until you fear the dawn is near and then pray an ofd number (1 or 3 pr 5 or 7 or 9 or 11 rakah witr). Prophet saw used to pray 8 looong rakah's and three times in his lifetime he prayed in congregation. But, there is narrations of Sahabas and Tabeyis praying 20 rakahs, 36 rakahs too. Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Shafeyi and Imam Ahmad used to pray 20 rakahs while Imam Malik favoured 36 rakahs. Now, 1. There is no problem praying 8, 20, 36 or any other Rakahs, but you should pray witr salah at the end. 2. If you are praying in congregation FINISH WITH THE IMAM! Because, whomever prays until the imam pray gets the reward of praying whole night. This is regardless of how many rakahs the imam prays. 3. If you wish to pray more after the imam finishes, if he offered witr at the end you can either stand up and pray one nore rakahs to make it even so that you keep your last night prayer witr OR you can finish with the imam and continue two by two, BUT DO NOT PRAY WITR TWICE. 4. Since prophet saw didn't specify any numbers for the qiam Al Layl let's not make it an issue. It's a scholarly consensus and you can follow whatever opinion you feel best BUT PLEASE DON'T MAKE FITNAH. May Allah make the ummah united under the flag of Islam, stronger and understanding. May Allah give is victory over the Shayatin and disbelievers. Jazakallahu Khairan.
Very confused but I will just follow my mum ( rip) 20 rakatsTaraweeh, 3 rakats Witir. Go to sleep then get up for seheri then do 2 rakats Tahajjud 15mins before Fajr.
alhamdulillah - your mum and you are following the Sunnah that ALL muslims have been following for 1400 years. Ignore what these modernists & salafis & other sects say.
Brothers I used pray thahajjud after 3.45am. After cought up with stroke I am not able to. so I pray for our wellness to Allah and pray Thahajjud..and to sustain life long. InshaAllah
For my understanding after listening full lecture is rakaa n taraweeh doesn’t matter but the ayat you recite matter, if you said 10 ayat or 100 or 1000 will get you to the different ranks of payments

Asalaamwalaikum Dear Sh.Dr. YQ, Welcome back! Can't wait to hear your Ramadan lectures. Thanks for clarifying the nuances and virtues of tahajjud and qiyam ul layl, pressing question for me for few years. Any lecture from you is like gold, take good care of yourselves during Ramadan and so looking forward for Ramadan sessions.. In Sha Allah!
Sheikh you mentioned that there was no Shari reason why Umar RA prayed 20 Rakats. Could it be that the Prophet Muhammad SAW prayed 20 Rakats when he led the prayer for the short few days? There are multiple hadith that that Muhammad SAW led people in 20 Rakats Taraweeh reported by in Abbas including in ibn Abi Shaybah, Bayhaqi, Tabarani, ibn Adi, Baghawi etc. These hadith have been stated as being Sahih. May some critical analysis of these hadith. Do you think Umar RA saw the prophet Muhammad SaW pray differently and made it up and all the other Sahabah allowed it and the scholars best gebeestikns following did the same like Imam Abu Hanifa RA, imam Malik RA, Imam Shafi RA, Imam Ahmad RA and so many scholars and schools up until modern times has been the agreed number but suddenly now we are supposed to think they got it wrong it should be 8 Rakat?
May Allah reward Shaikh Yasir for covering this topic. Some Muslims just love to complicate things! In summary - night prayers or Qiyam prayers is sunnah, no specific number is required in our deen, pray what you are able to do!!! Praying at home is better for you.
I agree praying Nawafil prayers is better at home. The mosque for Faraz namaz. Hence, I don't entirely agree with Taraweeh the way it is read in Jamat in mosques
Dr. Yasir Qadhi: You have clearly clarified the origin of the three terms specially Taraweeh and where they are stated when and how it was started. Specially the incident of the Prophet not showing up on the 3 night during Ramadan.. Is that not a sufficient reason that no one after him should establish this ritual even if he is a Sahabi or Khalifa of Islam in the name of good Bidah. Only Allah and by His command the Prophet have such authority. You also said that the word Taraweeh is not mentioned in Quran and it was coined after several centuries of Prophet leaving. No one argues about Salat ul Lail and Tahajud and mentioned in Quran and emphasised by the Prophet. For that reason Ahle Tashi (Shia sect) do not do Taraweeh prayers. However they do Salat ul Fail and Tahajud and their religious leaders emphasis specially during Ramadan. Please listed to Imam Kazwini of IECOC Friday Quota. It wasprobably not practise even during the reign of the 4th Kalif Hazrat Ali.
One of the reasons why Omer r.a made 20 rakaht might be that so during the tarawih through the whole ramadn it can be the whole Quran read while reading one page in every raqah (600 pages / 30 days = 20 pages per day i.a 20 raqaht). Allahu alem
I am very pleased with these chapters ... Everything I know is said in this lecture, but if I try to act on it, many people will separate me from the group, .... May Allah guide us
With all due respect to Dr. Qadhi, I think he knows when we say the word hajada, it means the person slept/ sleeping, so when we say tahajjada, it means someone who left sleep, this has two meanings, either someone who slept and then woke up or never slept to begin with. Both meanings are possible.
You are right .but we should also think that .you can not pray tahajudd from the ishaa prayer to the fajr .you either sleep and pray or pray and sleep within this period.Islam is simple
Jazak Allah kher brother Yair kazi.. Masha Allah la quwat ila bila.. Bravo Ur lecture widened the approach regarding the topic. So much deeply explained. Barik Allah feek ❤
There is no adhan for tahajud, that will fall again to category of innovation, yyy bcoz it was never done by our prophet or did d sahabas and d early followers of ISLAM
@@amandolorente1382 I discussed it with an Associate Professor in Islamic theology, spent 5 years studying in Saudi Arabia. His answer was, ' No l don't recall hearing an adhan for Tahajjud in Ramadan, but they did announce when it was about to begin jamaa'ah in mosques.' And you are right if there is an adhan for tahajjud prayers it will be innovation [bidddah.] Adhan as far as l know are for the five fard prayers.
Shukran brother watching from Kenya . May Allah Make it easy for you and us to Implement the Sunnah and the commandments, may Allah accept our first and prayers.
I'm confused please help I've been reading my withir then tahajjud I'm from the hanafi school Should I not read my withir until I'm done with tahajjud ?
Pray your witr after tahajjud. It should be the last thing you pray before Fajr salat starts. Some people pray it after Isha because they don't plan to wake up for tahajjud - or they don't think they will wake up. Allahu Alim.
I think I was quite clear on the terms Taraweeh, Tahajjud and Qiyam Al Lail before listening to this talk, but now I am confused. In Ramadan, Taraweeh = Tahajjud is a news for me.
Very useful and enlightening lecture. I have gained clarity and knowledge that I wasn't sure about earlier. Praise to Allah. Thank you sheikh Yasir, may Allah bless you and reward you for passing knowledge to the rest of us.
Salam, Shyakh my Question is regarding tuhjaad, what if a person only knows very short ayah only few, but don't know 10 ayat, will they still be accepted as tuhjaad readers and amongst the beloved of Allah?
Inshaallah of course. Allah swt said in Quran...Recite what is easy for you... We should make efforts to memorize at least 10 Sura. Allah knows the deepest true intentions in our hearts. Allahu Aalam.
Something bothers me…. At the end you said: If You pray it every night all your sins will be forgiven In Shaa Allah ان شاء الله Who said that? Since you explained that the nightprayer is not from the sunnah, and the only thing the prophet pbuh did was NOT disapprove their following in the nightprayer
It seems from the lecture that Taraweeh was not started by the Prophet pbuh or even recommended by the Prophet pbuh. Even during Haz Abu Bakars khilafat taraweeh did not exist. It was really an innovation that was started by Haz Umar. Taraweeh now has become like Faraz namaz, the way people are reading it. Exactly, what the Prophet did not want.
Praying Trawih in congregation is the sunnah of Umar and not the sunnah of prophet Muhammad pbuh. So you can decide who you prefer to follow, the prophet or Umar. If praying in congregation was better, he would have told us about it but he was mad/upset at the people who wanted to pray trawih behind him. Islam is not blindly following rituals, it is following what Allah and his Messenger say. So decide if you want to follow the sunnah of Umar which he claimed was an excellent bidah or the sunnah of RasoolAllah. Remember what the khateeb says in the Friday khutbah about every bidah being or leading to hellfire.
This taraweeh it's a man-made not from Allah so avoid it better for you the last time I checked Quran there's no such teaching however we do have tahajud or qiyam layli night pray and it has nothing to do with Ramadan you can perform this night prayer "qiyam layli or tahajud" in very night of your life if you want because it's not obligation Please again avoid and stop blinding fellowing so called scholars who use man-made fabrication books to justify their religious teaching and practices
Assalamu alaikum. Why you are so healthy and the children Gaza are like skeleton??? Why you eat all surplus food so much so that children in Gaza are starving. Talk only Gaza always, if you are a human
Very well explained by shaykh. One point I’m not clear on - isn’t there a difference between regarding Taraweeh as sunnah or mustahab (nafl)? I understand it’s not waajib but if it’s sunnah then different implications then if it’s just nafl. Anyone can please clarify?
If the imam has made intention for witr - I make my own intention and pray Tarawi Adding one extra Rakat? Isn’t it that if you’re reading behind an imaam that you must be praying the same type salah? I’m confused. I don’t think this is in any of the madhabs. Please advise
Assalyamu alyakum brothers and sisters, can someone please clarify for me one thing, this was very informative lecture by Sheikh, may Allah SWT bless him. What if i could not stand for Isha on time due to work and etc, will it work same way in this case as well. For example Isha at 9, but could make it at 10-10.30, do i pray 4 fard, 2 sunnah and 3 witr right after, this is actually how i was doing. Also please whoever knows help me to understand correctly, if i add 2, 4 or/and etc rakats before witr, will it be counted as kiyamun leyl or am i misunderstanding something. Thank you very much in advance
