If there's one thing I learned from eight years of modding Skyrim, it's that the better mod in any given argument is technically the one that requires the least amount of patches.

well done ,got rid of RW2 and got the awesome simple cathedral water for this same reason , basically any mod that changes cell/world record in large amount should be avoided in my experience

It has to be said, pure is exceptionally good at the smaller calm sources of water. It just struggles to be the well rounder type that RW2 can be. This might simply be because there just aren't as many animations in pure as some people have pointed out. I hope the authors of both Pure and Cathedral don't give up if they're still inspired just because everyone recommends RW2 these days, they still have serious potential and more selection is never a bad thing.

They wont chance their mods. Laast is gone (from Modding Skyrim) and Cathedral has a different approach. RWT achieves its better flow by editing almost every Cell that has water in it. This makes it highly incompatible without extensive patching, which is something (bot Laast and Jacoppo) arent striving for in Pure or Cathedral. They are aiming for a maximum of compatibility.

It would probably be super difficult to pull off, but one that did pure water for still water and realistic for flowing water would probably be pure perfection.

Strictly speaking? You install Pure and Realistic all on top of each other with everything as loose files in MO2 Then you look for a cell with still water, check out figure out what mesh is associated with it, and then delete that one from the Realistic mod folder in MO2. Assuming the mods don't use custom names for the meshes in their .esp, that should work.

You have good taste for using Cathedral Weathers, kudos! I wish it was more popular, because it's the most interesting and beautiful weather mod for SSE IMO. And Semirealis ENB is brilliant as well. :thumbsup:

The texture of Cathedral and Pure Water look great for still water and I do love my water to be a little transparent, but RW2 nails the flow. Water falls and rivers look a lot more natural in RW2. Plus RW2 is the only mod that fixes the blacksmith trouts and doesn't look strange in the Ragged Flaggon.

got rid of RW2 , at first glace in video comparison I had same idea like you but problem with RW2 is that it does not know it's place as just a graphical mod and changes whole lot of cell/world records ! once you start to go past 100 mods it's gonna piss you off because it override some of your important mods

Yes very true! After modding everything to where I want, I feel like there are wayy to many patches installed in my game so I’m strongly considering redoing my entire load but seeking out lightweight alternatives like the Cathedral mods seem to be.

@@finix7419 i mean, find what's best for you. I used rw2 for years and it's still the best for me, not the prettiest but the most consistent. My mod list is close to 300 and it's still running okay with no issue (that i know of) related to rw2. Yes, the mod went beyond graphical changes, so it requires some care for the right patches, and this could turn into a nightmare, so lightweight alternatives are great.

It was definitely great seeing the top water mods being used right now. Honestly tho if I had to pick a favorite I would choose RW2. It has features that definitely add up and it has a lot of patches that makes RW2 run really good with other mods. I run it in my mod order and it does what I like and it looks great with the ENB I am using. Thanks for showing :)

For me personally, I prefer Cathedral. I was using RWT before I found Cathedral. Don't regret the switch.

I let RW2 override Cathedral Waters to get the best aspects of both, including a mostly seamless LOD transition that Cathedral Waters on its own just can't pull off. I'll take consistency and blending over fidelity ten times out of ten.

sometimes it's not just side by side comparison that should be considred! I got rid of RW2 and got the awesome simple cathedral water, basically any mod that changes cell/world record in large amounts should be avoided in my experience ,it's skyrim once you start modding you gonna end up with at least 100+ mods and that's where mods that change records too much start to piss you off p.s : high respect for the author of RW2 but I do hope most modders go same route as cathedral concept so they work much better alongside other mods

I'm between RW2 and Pure Waters. Cathedral is way too transparent. I think that Rw2 is best suited from very opaque and big environmnets like the sea. But, in small environments, RW2 makes the waves too fast and the water too opaque. So, I find Pure waters better suited for small places such as small rivers or little lakes.

Personally, I find that cathedral and pure water are just too transparent. Rw2 has the best coloration and blending to land, but cathedral has the best textures. Sometimes Rw2 will have better textures. Pure water is ok, just not my taste.

Heh, I like Cathedral and Pure. It's matched my father's description about river in the past nearby our house, it's looks crystal clear that you can see the bottom of the river and the living underneath.

Check out smooth waters. Can be used with many water mods, has a fomod to choose, no esp.

Found that Cathedral still has green water reflection beneath small waterfalls, RW2 newest version has buggy rain ripples at some distance..

Very tough decision. Cathedral is much too transparent. Pure waters looks the best, but it has no movement even in places where the water is moving quickly. RW2 doesn't look as good as Pure Waters, but the water movement is correct which gives it the edge over Pure Waters imo.

Ranked 1) Realistic Water Two, looks great. Best all around. 2) Pure Waters, best stagnant or very slow moving water. 3) Vanilla, base on which all others are judged. 4) Cathedral, too transparent. Very few moments where it looked better than vanilla.

Pure Waters was pulled from Nexus last August. It looks like it's on ModSkyrim, but the page won't load correctly for me (an ad is covering where the link should be). I like RWT, but the patching is annoying. Based on what I saw here, I'd like to try Pure Waters to see what it's like in game. Would appreciate an updated download link if anyone has it.

All of my mods always have problems and my entire load order fucks up and I have to start again. I really don’t know how people can get any of these overhaul mods to run in sync.

Personally, I think Realistic Water Two wins by along way, just in how it meshes. The others still suffer the weird 'water over water' effect in places like the left side @3:32 and middle bottom @5:22. It's still there really in RWT, but you can just barely tell. BUT the other 2 look amazing in certain places.

Tried RW2 for a long while but i just prefer my Rudy obsidain enb + water for enb i lower the reflection amount up the caustics a bit dispersion with teal blue color makes for some very beautiful transparent crystal clear water

Summary: Vanilla looks good on a dark night Chathedral looks strange and shiny Clear Water is the best when it comes to non moving water like ponds or small lakes. Realistic Water handles the rivers and oceans best.

I don't know, but what's the point with comparing them with an ENBnon? The particular ENB Water settings can drastically change the look of each water mod. So too weather mods.

RW2 remains the best overhaul for handling directional flow of water bodies of fully loaded cells. Water For ENB is very pretty up close but handles directional flow worse and I find its' LOD transition is still obvious enough that I can't ignore it in gameplay, let alone setting up screenshots. The best combination I've found in the Year Of Our Load Order 2022 is RW2 plus Cathedral Waters. This gives the best of both worlds with the excellent directional flow of RW2 and textures that produce a low-seam transition with well matched colours and distant detail that greatly helps disguise the LOD transition.

Thanks for your detailed comment Dylan 👍 I'm currently building a new mod list for 2022, and I'll be checking out your claims. Not gunna lie....I had settled for Water for Enb. ATM I feel it's the best for the biggest variety of setups....but I could be wrong. Also past experience has told me that your enb of choice, + weather mod, has a huge say in how the water seams seem. (Excuse the pun)

My evaluation : for calm waters, Pure Water looks quite nice (not too clear, not too muddy) and Realistic Water Two is fine. For waterfalls, Realistic Water Two wins *by far* over the others. // I am very late: H.Phuong Yu already said it a year ago. :P

Purity was honestly my least favorite of the mix, but the only that obscured shadows underwater. I never noticed that while using other water mods, and now I wish I could unsee it lol

Problem with RWT is the sheer amount of Cells it edits and patches it needs. And it has major problems with Seams in Distant waters due to how it works with the flow effect, despite saying otherwise on the page (its a compatibility hell) Cathedral and PW both use the vanilla system with flows, which has its own problems, but they avoid the compatibility problems, the need to use Dyndolod, the patches and the big problems with seams in the water that SSE introduced and RWT just cant get rid of. So if you can live with the "worse" flow meshes, dont use RWT but literally every other Water mood, that changes colors and textures. Best thing is, you can just switch between Cathedral and Pure Waters on the fly in your LO. RWT is baked in for ever since its many changes.

Going by this, I'd say... Yes, yes it is. The *only* time it's a little weird, is in dark nights and interiors. Because RW2's waterfalls are by far the 'foamiest', they come with a lot of whites; making them too bright in caves etc. Almost as if they glow on their own.

When ES6 eventually releases Realistic Waters 2 will be splashing water in our face and implementing mud physics. Doing things for Skyrim that ES6 won't have for at least 2 years after release.

Pure waters has major flow problems (uses the same flow everywhere it seems). Cathedral is better but the flow seems off in places and texture/colors are boring. RW2 has the best flow and most interesting color variance, but water color seems too saturated and textures could be improved. RW2 wins though. Would like to see Water for ENB and TB's Improved Water compared!

I dont know but in my opinion vanilla just looks better than cathedral and pure Maybe in some cases rw looked a little better What do u think? Should i keep real water two in my mod list or switch to vanilla? Help me decide

1. RWT: Best flow and balance etc. Great light reflections. 2. Vanilla: Best light reflections. 3. Pure Waters: Best in still ponds. 4. Cathedral: Nope. Too clear and still. Looks like half-life 2. Now that would be positive if we were still there in that time. HL2 water was great then. But RWT and Vanilla crushes it here.

my problem with realistic water two is that to me it looks thick. it looks like the honey water people with medical conditions drink, which is why i don't use it.

There are moments when cathedral looks great and then other moments where rw2 looks great, especially waterfalls. However, I don't think pure waters even stands a chance in this comparison video. There is a new water mod looking good and that's wavy waters.

Mindflux water>>> Everything else, no other mod comes close to doing waterfalls as well as Mindflux. RW2 is great, Pure is nice, and Cathedral is ok (very lightweight). But Mindflux came along and finally took water to another level in Skyrim.

Water for ENB > RW2 = Pure > Vanilla > Cathedral. Pure looks better than RW2 90% of the time, but its waterfalls are very lacking. Cathedral is just too clear and doesnt have enough movement effects. W4ENB nails water on the head though.

Realistic Water 2 for me is to light green blue... I remember it not being this way but I dont like it in its current state and am going to switch to pure waters.

unwatchable with all the commercials kicking in, my choice would be Cathedral Commercial free waters, Pure Free of commercials waters or the best one out there, Realistically no frickin youtube commercial waters two, then maybe I'll get further than two minutes of watchin your great videos without having to rage quit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
