In this video, I am going to find out if S&Q is better than slow motion done in post. Is it better clarity, resolution, and quality? I need answers!

I love your style of production. I love slow motion footage. I overuse it but it hides my lousy handheld skills.

Hey, thanks for the comment and compliment as well! Yeah, S&Q is nice to have but I feel doing it the natural way if there is such a thing (60fps/24f time line) is best but that’s just my opinion. What I do think S&Q is great for are Timelapse’s or to have a certain time lapse look to your footage. I enjoy it a lot but still making my own minor tweaks to it.

quick question bro! for the sony a74, would you recommend shooting slo motion broll in S&Q mode OR in 1080p 60/120p. since the sony a74 doesn’t offer slo motion in those higher frame rates (unless your okay with having a crop) im planning on shooting slo motion broll with the a74 + sony 24mm 1.4 gm thanks homie appreciate it :)

Honestly brotha, the a74 megapixel count is 33 if I’m not mistaken. The S&Q mode might be cleaner than the FX3 which is 12.1 megapixels. On paper, the a74 should look better, even in S&Q mode but to be sure I would do a quick double take of a sample for both and see what is more pleasing to your eyes. Me personally, I prefer the 120 in camera and 24 time line to make it more natural looking without the downgrade in resolution due to S&Q BUT with 33 megapixels, I don’t think you’ll have that problem. That’s my honest opinion and somewhat of a guess, lol. Good luck!

Your starting at the whole FPS to begin with. 30, 60, 120, 240 are all NTSC frame rates. NTSC is every second line changes per frame. So in reality its half the resolution and half the frame rate of the claimed numbers. NTSC is a numbers bump. 24FPS is 24 progressive frames. Shoot in 24, 25, 50, 100, 200FPS and you get the actual frames and resolution. Unless you shoot broadcast footage for the small handful of places that use NTSC, then bail all those inferior frame rates.

I’m comparing recording times between S&Q 120 and regular 120 and I notice that the recording time for the S&Q is much longer. Anyone else notice this?

That last setting where it shows the bit rates , I can’t see that on my Sony a 7iii is it hidden somewhere ?
@bc_views

I imagine you should be able to see it. The ONLY reason I suspect you may not be able to is due to your SD card and it not having the capability to shoot in 4:2:2 10bit. I’m using a Sony Tough V90 SD card. Where as if I had a Sony Express Type A, I could access different recording options but since I don’t they don’t show up. Hope this helps you out.

I dont have that all mines come up at 59.9

This was before the update. Everyone… or at least those who updated the firmware on their FX3 should say 59.9 which is pretty much the equivalent to 60fps more or less

Hey man thank you very much; I haven't done any side-by-sides myself yet. Personally, I'm not yet seeing the advantage of S&Q. If anything, it might be good to have all the original frames intact in case you change your mind? I'm really a beginner so I don't know if that's even an issue that would crop up. Hey, btw, I've only ever heard people say 'peeping' not 'peeking' though peeking probably makes more sense?? Haha, anyway, thanks for the helpful video! I think I'll probably continue to mostly shoot normal video for now until I see a need, maybe. Cheers! Edit: Like the other guy said, your set is looking great. Love the lighting and the grade. I'm kinda digging the lifted shadows!

No problem… we are all learning, brotha. S&Q is … different, lol. I haven’t found a need for it myself, but I do play with the frames for time lapse “look” instead of taking a bunch of photos. Thanks again for the kind words, I’ll keep it going.

Thanks for the video! I think S&Q was meant for family/hobbyists to play around with, not for paid work..

It’s definitely fun to mess around with. When you really want to get creative I think s&q can really push the norm.

i am a wedding photographer and is considering doing hybrid andoibg the video in s &q. what do you think of that?

Weddings, nice! I would say do non- S&Q. I only say this because the image might not be as sharp and clean as it could be.

how do you take s&q mode off !!?
@bc_views
@bc_views Год назад
The "mode" button should give you access to different camera recording options, at least this is how it works for the camera I'm using (FX3), other models might be slightly different.

I have a Sony Zv1f i’ve already filmed the video will i be able to take my video out of s&q mode ?
@bc_views
@bc_views Год назад
@@kellynation1434 That depends on what your S&Q settings were in camera while recording. If you recorded in 24,30, or 60 FPS then thats a good start. If your shutter speed was double any of the frame rates then you shouldn't have an issue uploading the video. For example, If I filmed in S&Q mode while in 24FPS but my shutter was 1/8, then the footage wouldn't look right. On the flip side, if I recorded in 24fps with the shutter at 1/48 or 1/50 then the video should be fine. I guess you could take a clip of what you recorded, drop it in your editing software and apply the appropriate settings in post. That would probably be your best. Whats important is what your FPS and Shutter speed was while recording. If the playback looks normal then it should be ok.

@@kellynation1434 I re-read your question just to make sure I answered what you're asking, the answer is, No. You can't take S&Q mode off a already recorded video, but that doesn't mean your video can't be used if your record settings are good.

I think someone mentioned somewhere that S&Q is actually better. Uses more bitrate. I have to get back on that.

@bc_views Год назад
Interesting…. Let me know what you find, I’d like to see the video to be honest.
@WEHAVETHISDREAM
@WEHAVETHISDREAM Год назад
@@bc_views Yeah, I am still searching for it, haha. Cause, someone left it slide in, in his video. It was not specifically about it. But, I do remember his reasoning: basically, e.g. in 120 fps you have a certain amount of bitrate. 100 Mb (on older cameras) or 200 Mb in the newer ones (with 10 bit, 4:2:2). Well, if you record 120 fps in 100 Mb, you basically get 0.83 Mb per frame? But when filming in S&Q (which records no sound whatsoever) and you have set it to export the 120fps in 24fps (in-camera), that slowed-down 24fps footage also has 100 Mb bitrate. So, his reasoning was that you get bit more bitrate in conclusion. BUT, I have to test this for myself, cause the internet... oh, man, that is a huge rabbit hole of ideas and theories.
@WEHAVETHISDREAM
@WEHAVETHISDREAM Год назад
@@bc_views If you ask me, I would rather film in true 120fps, cause then I can use frame-blending or optical flow, for even more slow-motion, on some shots. And you get the sound too.

It's the other way around, the bitrate and file sizes are a lot smaller in S&Q mode (if you haven't found out yet) 😅
