The word Sanatana itself means eternal, timeless or endless. What is Dharma? Dharma is most widely used term in India but it is also most wrongly interpreted term. British wrongly translated Dharma as "Religion", comparing it with Abrahamic faiths. But in reality Dharma means "A set of qualities we should adopt and improve". There are a number of qualities we can adopt but the set qualities we must adopt is called Dharma. What are these qualities? धृति: क्षमा दमोऽस्‍तेयं शौचमिन्‍द्रियनिग्रह:।धीर्विद्या सत्‍यमक्रोधो दशकं धर्मलक्षणम्‌।। Patience, forgiveness , restraint, not stealing, inner and outer purity, not indulging in sensory pleasures, Intelligence, true knowledge, truth, not to be angry.Those who have these qualities are called Dharmic those who dont have these qualities are called Adharmi. Dharma means trying to attain these qualities. Religion on the other hand promotes Blind Faith, believing in something without thinking and analyzing. They usually have an "unquestionable" book and "unquestionable" prophets.Religions are expansionist in nature whereas Dharma is inclusive. Religions ask you to believe blindly, Dharma asks you to attain true knowledge through questioning.Religions might have some elements of Dharma, they might have some elements of Adharma. We are not followers of any Religion, we are followers of Dharma, Sanatana Dharma. So religion is not Dharma, dharma is unique and same for all humans, Sanatana Dharma is Manav Dharma that is Dharma for all humans

I really don't get it , if sanatana is hindu and as you said you don't have prophet no god, then who is krishan, who is hanuman why do you worship them

Srila Prabhupada: As far as Vedic religion is concerned, it is not for the Hindus; it is for all living entities. That is the first thing to be understood. Vedic religion is called sanatana-dharma, “the eternal occupation of the living entity.” The living entity is sanatana [eternal]. God is sanatana, and there is sanatana-dharma. sanatana-dharma is meant for all living entities, not just the so- called Hindus. Hinduism, this ‘ism’, that ‘ism’-these are all misconceptions. Historically, sanatana-dharma was followed regularly in India, and Indians were called ‘Hindus’ by the Muslims. The Muslims saw that the Indians lived on the other side of the River Sind, and the Muslims pronounces Sind as Hind. Therefore they called India ‘Hindustan’ and the people who lived there ‘Hindus’. But the word Hindu has no reference in the Vedic literature, nor does so-called Hindu dharma. Now that sanatana-dharma or Vedic dharma, is being distorted, not being obeyed, not being carried out properly, it has come to be known as Hinduism. But that is a freak understanding. We have to study sanatana-dharma; then we’ll understand what Vedic religion is.

Many people describe it as 'Hi' taken from Himalayas, and 'Indu' is the word for oceans in sanskrit. This means a person from the land between Himalayas ans the Indu(Indian ocean) is a Hindu. Thus anyway Hindu is a geopolitical identity
