If you are looking to move to Seattle Washington this is the video for you! This city is so popular and for good reason! I've been here for almost 2 years now and although that might seem short to some, it's for sure long enough to make an opinion about the city! Enjoy!

great video Rachel -- having followed you since the beginning I can see your maturity and growth. At least from the small slice of life, you so graciously shared with us. I applaud the way you put yourself out there and were open to growth. Young people can learn a lot from the way you transitioned to the city. I am glad you are reaping the rewards. It's an awesome City and State to live .( coming from an LA myself) - I wish you continued success

I love cloudy weather and the rain! It legit puts me in a good mood, and sunny weather bothers me and hurts my eyes--so I've always seen Seattle as somewhere I'd like to at least visit one day! I'm a writer so if I make enough money from that eventually I might consider relocating if I like Seattle enough from visiting. But I've never lived in a big city before, since I'm from a small town in the south. However I HATE driving and so all that public transport sounds so nice--and since I'm so introverted, it's not like I'd be getting out too much anyway. Thanks so much for the video! It's really educational and I appreciate your take on it!

I moved to Seattle in September and it's actually not as gloomy as people make it out to be. The rain is rarely ever a downpour, it's inconsistent and there's usually sun that comes in throughout the day. It's also been super warm and sunny the past couple days!

This depends on where you moved from. I moved from MI which has a lot of lake effect so for me not so bad. Someone from CA or AZ it’s usually a tuff transition. I loved Seattle. Sometimes the rain was tuff, like last year, but usually not bad. A trip to sunny area for a couple weeks helps get thought it

As usual Rachel, GREATLY INFORMATIVE VIDEO!!!! I agree with everything you said!!! The one thing I would expound upon...the traffic for sure!!! Coming from Detroit, we were NOT prepared for this kind of gridlock!!! We heard all about it before moving here, but hearing about it, and living it, are two different things!! We literally have to make sure that the truck has a FULL TANK of gas before going on the freeway, because we don't know how long we will be stuck in traffic!! We base where we are going on the time of day and traffic, and have cancelled a couple of trips somewhere because of it. One little accident on I5 can literally KEEP YOU FROM GOING TO WORK!! I even keep snacks in the truck because of it!!! Still have not decided if this is where we will stay, but I am so glad we are here and trying it out. I will say though, I get SO HYPED everytime I see Mt Ranier!!! You for damn sure will not see that view driving through a midwest city like Detroit!! I TRULY LOVE SEEING IT!!!
@RachelWaldorf
@RachelWaldorf 6 лет назад
You’re soooo right! It’s tough because everyone come from a different background and to some this traffic is nothing but to others like myself it’s awful haha! You are so spot on tho!!! Gonna post this to my Instagram story because it’s so helpful! THANK YOU!!!

I live close to Eastern Washington. I been to Seattle a couple years ago, and promise myself to go back every weekend but never do. ( tired from work...lol) I can honestly say the city reminds me of a smaller version on San Francisco. Downtown is very clean and seems friendly, and there is much to do and see. I would recommend anyone who wants to visit Seattle to do so. It is truly a beautiful city. The state of Washington is very beautiful itself. Try it you may fall in love with city.

I am so glad that I found your channel. I have been DREAMING of Seattle for years, but fear has always gotten the better of me. Coming from NYC I thought the transition would be easier since I am familiar with city living, but then the negative thoughts come. Can I afford living by myself? Hi Rachel! Your videos are soo helpful. I moved to Portland a few years ago and am thinking of moving to Seattle in the next few years! I love the vibes of bigger cities. But the gloom is definitely tough! I'm still finding ways to cope with the winters. Do you think Seattle is a good place to be long-term, or should I start scoping out sunnier cities? It's soo hard to choose! But I enjoy the challenge of picking up & moving to a new place because it ends up being such an adventure one way or another 😊

As a native Seattlite I totally agree with the thing about people being passive. I just moved back from Nashville and from my experience living here vs. the south Seattlites are really genuine even when that means they genuinely want to keep to themselves haha. No one feels the obligation to be super forward or friendly unless they really mean it which leads to a lot of missed opportunities. I love my city but I think everyone would be a lot happier if we made a little more effort!

I prefer a state with no income tax to move to and gain residency because of the way I make a living. (Long term short term capital gains) Florida is nice but I like cooler climates so Washington is more my style. Rain 🌧 is actually something I dig so no worries there. Plus I’m from Chicago and it’s raining and cloudy all the time.... good video (would love longer ones because your very enjoyable and friendly to listen to. We're not all passive. Yes, it's true that most people tend to wait until they get to know you before becoming super forthcoming. But that's not everyone. I also think it's important to look beyond one social or ethnic group, because with diversity comes differences in culture and personalities. Some of us might surprise you!
@RachelWaldorf
@RachelWaldorf 6 лет назад
Of course! Sorry didn’t mean to make it seem like I was grouping everyone because that’s never the case. Just a large portion! 🌝 very well stated! 💓
@Snowytito
@Snowytito 5 лет назад
Not all passive? No. Just the vast majority (speaking as someone who is very open to diversity in all of it's wonderful forms). Made fewer friends in Seattle in 23 years of living there (Seattle Native) than I did after moving to another state. After 2 years in another state, I have more friends (from every type of social/ethnic group imaginable) than I had in ALL of my years in Seattle. Don't piss on her and tell her it's raining! If you want to make friends, you're probably better off looking for other transplants. Seattle natives are conditioned to be quiet, stand-offish and weary of outsiders. It's just the Seattle way. Good luck to you.
@Snowytito
@Snowytito 5 лет назад
@GiovannisSanctuary Hahaha! Yes, I am inclined to agree with you. I do not think I would have made many friends in those cities either (having visited a couple of them). I moved to Dallas, TX. Dallas is extremely diverse demographically in every way imaginable; however, it is not even a fraction as beautiful as Seattle is. Given the opportunity, I would likely move back to the PNW (Oregon), though not Seattle. Right now, the economy is good here, so this is where we are staying.

Super convenient for going to the city that way you can enjoy the light rail and park for free :)

I disagree about public transportation. Idk I think it’s okay WITHIN the city but if you live in the suburb areas or just outside of Seattle/not downtown, the bus system is terrible. I also think uber and lyft are super expensive.... idk what would be a 30 minute drive into downtown (without traffic) Seattle for me ends up being a 2-3 hour commute from bussing, transferring, and walking. Also busses are really late a lot of the time from my experience. So yes if you actually live within the city the public transportation is alright, but living outside of the city may be difficult.

Just a matter of time until the Cascadia Subduction Zone ruptures :( It's what made me move my young family away from the Puget Sound region. I miss our Ballard Fred Meyer store the most!

Good lord people need to stop moving here or I’m going to leave. Im a native and its getting so crowded and expensive I might just leave. “Job opportunities” ...kinda. The competition is fierce. And a lot of big companies who don’t mind recruiting candidates out of state or even country. I dont recommend moving here unless you were offered a job from an amazing company.

Hi all, Thinking about leaving this place. The people are toxic if not highly corrosive. I have been here for over a decade and this is a place that is very "clickish" and hateful. I see quite a bit racism and bigotry of all sorts. I am from the South and I find this place worse. The city is rising via the tech industry too fast. Most Seattleites cannot afford to live in Seattle. However, if you are tech, you got it going on up here. This is the place for you.

Good afternoon, I am looking into ATL and the Research Tri-cities of North Carolina (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill) at the moment. Southerners tend to have a harder time out here from my experience. All my friends have thrown in the towel and gone back home. I thought I have gotten past those years of missing home but when I get around disingenuous people and receive that ever so cold Seattle Freeze, it just reminds me that I do not belong here.

It’s definitely expensive but it’s also extremely beautiful here! I’m sorry you feel that seattle is ruined! Change can be difficult and I can’t even image what it use to be like and how hard it is to see things change, but just know that we are moving here in the hope of making the city a beautiful one and providing a better life for ourselves! 🖤
