I’m glad someone is pointing out the issues of side arm as a side arm pitcher. I had massive shoulder issues when I was 13 and dropped slot to compensate. It worked for me and I had very different results from guys who manufactured their sidearm motion. I recommend the Nolan Ryan and Tom House videos to people to show them how to find natural slots. 90% of my mechanics are overhand mechanics with tweaks to keep my arm on top of the ball and not leading with my elbow. Good video, good mechanics, good observations.
Thank you for this explanation. My son is 10 and he throws heat but has started throwing sidearm which is making him throw wild pitches. So after watching slow mo video of his mechanics, he is doing everything that you're talking about. We will be working on it and hopefully he can get back to good form.
Great video, thanks Dan. I am using this to help correct my 13 year old son's pitching mechanics. I can already see some results in that he is no longer pitching sidearm, and instead has moved to 3/4 arm slot which is closer to his natural throwing style. Your guidance in this video has been very helpful.
hi coach, some of my trainers are desperate for me to throw less sidearm but when i do that my accuracy decreases by a lot and so does my speed, it also feels very unnatural for me to throw les sidearm, my question is: what do i say to them to confince them to let me keep throwing sidearm?,from the netherlands
It really just depends. Some players throw sidearm because it’s natural and best. Others throw sidearm because they have problems with their throwing mechanics. It really just depends.
Idk about my case but I had problem since I was 8 cus when I throw a ball I have a slider motion and my foot is going to the outside corner of a peewee plates... painfull but freakin good slider...
Hey coach, what's your advice about being nervous about pitching at a game, I have my first game pitching on Monday, at all of my practices I struck out our teams best hitter 3 times, I know I'm good because I'm in 7th grade and I'm starting over 5 8th grade pitchers on our team, but I'm really nervous
Just remind yourself that you belong In the role you’ve earned. You’re starting over them for a reason, so take the confidence they have in you and own it.
Throwing sidearm ruined my career. I ruined my elbow and the innerr side even more. My dad never cared over used me in little league and babe Ruth and my arm was dead by high school. I could of been a decent pitcher and instead I never found out bc parents and coaches didn't care enough to get me a pitching coach.
I’ve thrown side arm my whole life since I was maybe 8 and now I’m 18 throwing side arm I try to not throw side arm but I do it out of instinct at this point I feel like throwing side arm has made velo not reach its potential I top out at 85 mph which in today’s game is like 60 mph any way I can get rid of my bad habit of throwing side arm?
