Ever since i saw footage of this game, i was absolutely amazed by my favorite little hedgehog running around on my little android tablet on youtube. And for years i tried to buy the game but one day, i found a sega game collection so i instantly put my mind to it and i finally played it for the first time ever and i absolutely loved it. It's in my top ten sonic games all the way up at second behind sonic unleashed!
Nice that you enjoyed the game. Sonic is definitely the best playable character. When replaying the game, I would recommend you to use his spin dash which is pretty overpowered here as it can make you extremely fast and it also allows you to skip a bunch of platforming sections with much bigger gaps. The best way to enjoy Sonic games that also implies to the games afterwards is time attacking these stages. The better you play by learning these stages the better they can be enjoyed. Also when Sonic gets too slippery, you can jump to reduce a lot of your momentum and maybe turn 180°. This might help you a lot and you REALLY want to know that if you play later games like Sonic Heroes or Shadow the Hedgehog. Tails was fine I guess. I think his stages don't serve any challenge but I do like his final stage. Knuckles plays well. But I have to warn you if you are planning to play Sonic Adventure 2 as the stages get bigger and your radar is nerved to only one emerald so you must rely on these hints a lot to find the emeralds quickly. I agree that Amy sucks. Nothing else to say. Fishing with Big is pointless but at least the stages are short. Gamma's stages are a little too simple in my eyes. Most of them are moving forward for like 30secs or a minute and you only mash the attack button to kill most bosses. Even if the mech stages in Sonic Adventure 2 are a little more clunky, the level design was definitely an improvement. Fun Fact: It is possble to finish the plane sections by flying to the top right corner and then do literally nothing (until you fight against the Egg Carrier in the second time). Boss fights overall were generic. I agree. I consider the final fight to be the best one as you never have to wait until the boss is vulnerable. I can't really crticize the story as I don't really care it from this specific game that much. Overally I like this review and I can definitely recommend to continue to play further Sonic 3D games (I would recommend using an emulator the the late 6th gen Sonic games if you haven't any 6th consoles or 7th gen in case they are backwards compatible).
I don’t know if you bought the steam version or if you’re playing GameCube, but the GameCube port has worse lighting, textures, and also has some glitches the original Dreamcast version doesn’t. On steam there are mods to restore the original Dreamcast textures, lighting, and even models.
Play the Dreamcast version, I am so sick of people saying " Sonic Adventure looks bland" while showing footage of Sonic Adventure DX which changes the textures and lighting and made it look worse. While the Dreamcast version has more colorful textures and a lighting engine that was impressive for 1998 Also for that part with the loop in emerald coast, You're supposed to keep holding forward, otherwise you will fall right through. (And this is a bug that wasn't in the Dreamcast version)
I think the point of the plot is that it has different things happening in everyone's story. They are called different story's. I could be reaching really far but it seem they are different accounts of the plot from these characters like a choose your own adventure book. One is true you choose who you want to believe. I find it strange they did that for sonic when i can see that idea done in a more serious game but it is cool. Also have you played sonic adventure 2 yet i say that it fixed most of the problems of sonic adventure 1. some people don't agree but i think they are wrong but don't take my word for it play it if you haven't. But don't play it as your first sonic game it can leave a poor taste in your mouth to some people. Play sonic 3 or two first then try the other ones. But also it doesn't matter that much.
That's me with most Tomb Raider games. I really should get back to them at some point. It kind of bothers me that Legend is still the only one in the series I managed to beat so far
