The iPhone is NOT fine with its extreme over-sharpening, red tomato face, and yellow white balance. Why is nobody talking about this?

@@d3xmeisterThey will never ever compete with a professional camera for sure, but they are very good for taking punchy nice looking snaps and videos for social media or just capturing life's special moments. I gave up my iPhone for Sony Xperia and I do not regret it. The iPhone is good, but I hated the overprocessing of the pictures, even RAW photos were processed. I get better and more natural Photos from Xperia. The Menu was not a big deal because I am good familiar with Sony Menu from Sony cameras.

I gave up on an Xperia phones years ago, after having several models the software bugs and stability issues just became too frustrating. Sony must have known this as they popped up a notification telling me to manually reset the phone every week! I moved to Samsung and then to iPhone and got fed up with all the over processing. I now carry a Fuji X-100F in my bag which produces far better images than any of these phones, I mainly just use the phone for video and the occasional snap now.
@Sabundy

@@MrSamoDudeYou do realise that Xperia phones now are very different from Xperia phones from "years ago" when you used them? Since then the Xperia division (which used to be a wholly seperate division within Sony) has been fully integrated with audio, Alpha cameras, Bravia TVs etc.....put under new management/leadership. And the entire Xperia line was rebooted. If your experience of Xperia phones was from years ago then your information is woefully out of date and no longer relevant to the conversation.
@MrSamoDude
@MrSamoDude 10 месяцев назад
@@Sabundy Nope, it’s still perfectly relevant. The end result is still the same, once bitten twice shy, I wouldn’t buy a Sony phone again due to my poor past experience, and a dedicated camera with a bigger sensor will still produce remarkable better images than any small phone sensor. Whether the end user would notice that difference is debatable though, especially if they’re only ever viewed on a small phone screen. For everyday snaps the manufacturers color science and processing tend to have more impact, and the reviews and samples make it clear that Sony’s is far from the best even on the latest models.

I had such high hopes when I saw you guys were reviewing this phone. I was expecting to see you work the photographer angle a lot harder. I am VERY interested in seeing how well the DNGs from the 1 V respond to torture in Lightroom. How much headroom is there in highlights and shadows, including if you expose for the phone's strengths? How well do the colours respond to curves manipulation? Do any of the colours clip? etc etc etc This device, with all the manual controls it offers, is clearly meant for this kind of enthusiast/pro workflows. All you guys did was just pixel peep!! Also, in what universe were the vlog test skin tones of the Sony better than the iPhone's?

Xperia 1V and I phone 14 pro literally have the same camera specs on the wide angle 24mm main camera lens which is 48MP. Probably compare the lens modes of each phone to get a close comparison? Ultra wide vs ultra wide, telephoto vs telephoto, and 24mm vs 24mm. i Phone 14 pro max's ultra wide is also 12MP but Sony Xpreia 1V's 24mm is also 48MP similar to the i phone. When it comes to the macro capability, both have the same 20cm minimum focus distance by using the 24mm lens so technically they have the same or similar macro capabilty. The sony camera has better telephoto than the iphone but the iphone has slightly wider focal length with the ultra wide. All in all in my opinion if we compared each lens respectively on their own specific focal lengths, xperia would hands down be better. Thanks for the review.

You Can also take pictures of the moon with both yes the Sony phone would be able to zoom in farther, but if you bring the exposure down with the iPhone after zooming in all the way, you tap on the moon and then bring the brightness all the way down or at least as close to the bottom as you want, you can get a good moon shot same with the Sony phone except I don’t think you can move the exposure down. Maybe you can but either way both phones are great for moon shots also, has anyone ever noticed that if you Flip the pictures of the moon after taking them and then turn the picture two times or so you get the same craters that are on the Earth globe, and it looks identical like a mirror, and all of the same areas that the Earth has in the green and blue globe part of the earth. I still don't understand WHY people go like "I'll get a good phone with a good camera on it". The phone is 1400 dollars! Get a 400 dollars phone and you have 1000 to spend on a good camera. Get an entry level DSLR or mirrorless (around 400 U$D new) a good nifty fifty (around 150 new, but they are pretty common, so used ones in great conditions are available by the dozens), a good telephoto zoom if you are into it (I got mine for 100$ used, it'd probably be around 200$ or 250$). Some extension tubes (10$ if you are into macro photography, just to have a taste of it, or you can get a 300$ macro lense). A wide angle 24,28,35mm of your choosing lense for around 150-250$. And you'd still have money to spare! My entire set up was about 1000 U$D I think, but here's the thing, I built it up as I thought I needed the thing, instead of having to spend everything off pocket all at once. IF YOU ARE INTO PHOTOGRAPHY, DON'T GET A PHONE WITH A GOOD CAMERA, GET A PHONE AND A GOOD CAMERA, IT'S CHEAPER AND WILL BE MUCH BETTER! (And for the people who'll 100% gonna tell me, but I can take my phone everywhere I go. Well, you can do that too with your camera, just get a bag! I take my phone in a bag anyway!)

I’m a 14 Pro owner and the camera even though is great, it has few flaws. I was honestly shocked when I got my hands on the 14 Pro with how terrible the camera can be on full auto. Coming from iPhone XS prior to 14 Pro, the post-processing is just over the top making photos taken look very digitally processed with over sharpening being the most obvious one. iPhone used to have that balance between sharpness and detail, natural and authentic look on their photos but with every iteration of new so called “computational photography”, the images since have been hit and miss. However, the computational photography does help a lot when in low-light though. I found myself have to use ProRAW in every single pictures and thankfully Apple ProRAW did a great good job without the need of post-editing. The pictures from ProRAW is much cleaner. Just take a look at Xiaomi 14 Ultra and Vivo X100 Pro. The images are very clean, have that soft look to it mimicking DSLR camera. It blows away the competition, let alone iPhone 15 Pro with rather now outdated Sony IMX 803 image sensor. It recycles the same exact sensor from 14 Pro. The competition already moved on to next generation of Sony 1 inch LYT sensor. When Sony gets the auto mode right with perfect post-processing, I’m pretty sure it’ll be the best camera ever for mass market. Sony already has the advantage of using advanced camera sensor (Exmor-T) that up until today, isn’t offered off the shelf for other manufacturers to use.

problem with xperia is when I want to fine tune everything and have total control over what I shoot, I take out my mirrorless camera. IMO phone cameras should be for fast and easy access when I just want to take quick picture/video without thinking about and get best results on its own. iPhone has no competition in that. and xperia will never be as good as professional camera so I don't really see a point in having a phone like that.

I swapped from Android to iPhone a few years ago and I know that it takes more than a better camera to get me back to team green. But it's still great to see a good comparison, it also forces apple to stay on their toes and actually improve their stuff. Some notes though: on the lock screen you can just swipe left to get the camera on the iphone. You can also add a shortcut to double (or triple) tap the apple logo, that's what i've done. Also the iphone low light blows me away, not every time, but most of the times. Like how it handled the video here that's amazing.

I personally don't like these super-tall aspect ratio because the user interface is generally poorly designed in landscape mode. It takes up far too much space and the content is limited to a thin strip. Examples: browsing the web, using the quick menu or even the keyboard. I'm not saying that the phone is terrible, but the interface really needs to be improved for these screen formats.

Maybe Sony could release an update allowing the full resolution of the main sensor for it's RAWs. And I want to make two criticism of the Xperia because it appears Sony is finally listening! For years I complained to reviewers of the past models that they should test the "Pro" modes. Finally this time finally everyone is doing that, but I was hurt by the monkey paw. With the V Sony finally started doing a bit of "computational photography", but it only shows on Basic/Auto mode. The Dynamic Range is that in the Pro/Manual modes seems very limited is actually very good, even exposing the lights correctly during the night, but only in Basic/Auto mode. Couldn't Sony keep this processing when using manual controls too? The other things is... personally, I don't think that variable zoom camera is doing much. The range is too limited and the less very blurry with low contrast. I don't think is work the cost, not at this quality. Apart for that, it's perfect! And I think that despite the bad result in night video seems in Tony and Chelsea test, you can get dramatically better results adjusting the shutter speed correctly.

Interesting comparison, but I found many of Tony's comments were super bias. For example on Chelsea's skin, where it looked to me like Apple's was much more natural and was just rendering her skin and makeup when Sony's was oversmoothing tons and was looking super waxxy

6:35 that’s not more details on the iPhone, that’s word processing, basically adding details that do not exist (in this case the letters it has detected) using ML algorithms “Deep fusion”, it fails in certain scenarios (finer details) like in the back the wood lines on the house are better and naturally represented by the Sony.

Pretty good comparison. But I think the best thing for Sony would be to add also the photo / video form the camera you are filming the video with, to show how wrong the Apple or Samsung are in oversharpening and other tricks they are doing. Edit: It's showing anyway, and you did a great job of pointing this out.

I’m sorry, but this guy man, I don’t think he’s being fair. A lot of creatives use the iPhones for their video capabilities, because they are extremely competent. iPhone video capture is unrivalled in any smart phone. In fact, I have used my old iPhone 11 promax to film a RU-vid video, and it gained a lot of views. I now use an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I’ve done videos with that, and nobody has noticed to date. That’s not even the latest iPhone. In many ways, my iPhone 13 Pro Max handles colour better than my Sony ZV1. It’s much more consistent. I love Sony phones; when I was younger, I had alot of them. They got me into phone photography, however the new one, is not really refined enough. You’re claiming that this is a professional tool, and you can use additional screens with it or have it as an additional video camera. But I think that you’re better off, spending your money on a proper Sony video camera, and just having your iPhone, for those moments, when you don’t have a Camera with you, and you just wanna capture some b roll really quickly. Pretty much every tech reviewer, who deals with cameras, knows that the iPhone is the best video capture (On a phone).

This was purely advertisement for Sony! The Iphone was clearly better in several areas both for pictures and video but it was obvious that Tony and Chelsea wanted to promote the Sony. Obviously they are biased because they mainly use Sony gear and that's a crucial factor. Yes, the Sony phone has many positive aspects and strengths but the camera and the basic camera app isn't one of them! It's sad that we do not get objective reviews anymore when when brands like Sony sponsor the creators and their content!

For phones, computational photography is just the way to go. Doesn't matter if the images look over sharpened, at the end of the day, it's still better than the quality you get with these tiny sensors and smartphone lenses naturally.

As an apple user i started to hate the iPhone 14 Pro pictures. I installed iOS17 to look if they changed something about it. Nope they didnt. It is so terrible with the overprocessing. As you mentioned even stuff gets sharpened which should be blurred. So after all those years since the 3GS i dont want it anymore. Vivo X90 Pro Plus with all the natural bokkeh is insanely good. No software blurr needed. Doesnt look good anyway.
