He only touched on two types of tongues. There are 3 kinds of tongues. 1 - Speaking in other tongues (earthly language) Book of Acts 2 - Speaking in tongues w/interpretation. 1 Corinthians 14 3 - Speaking in tongues for personal prayer. (1 Corinthians 14 starting at verse 1) Paul never said to not to speak in tongues, he said speaking in tongues without interpretation doesn’t bring edification for the church. He states that speaking in tongues for personal prayer only edifies the person praying, that he would rather them to desire gift of prophecy because it edifies the whole church. All three of the tongues I listed are very beneficial when used for their purpose. I’ve never understood how and why people don’t know about tongues and the ones who’ve heard about it call it gibberish. I’ve done it for years as personal prayer. I’ve done it and interpreted it. I have also prophesied. Each one served their purposes in amazing ways. Why? Because they’re all from the same source! It’s the Holy Spirit who does all of them through this wretched sinning bag of bones. My righteousness is rags before Him. I am nothing. But glory be to God for sending His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for my sins and set me free. My life is to Him and each breath I take today is given by Him. His love is mighty and powerful. Who will stand in His way?

FACTS....Its not gibberish it's and they only say that bc they have been taught through .their religious upbringing that tongues are this n that..thats why folks that have never been churched come and hear the gospel and do what the Bible says as Peter preached in Pentecost, they repent, they get baptized for the remision of their sin and get filled with the Holy Spirit..these folks recieve it with no problem. But the churched ,those who have been taught in cessationist teachings refuse to believe and or teach these things and even preach against it, after the Apostles died, so for them this was just for that period of time..but do we not need the power of the Holy Spirit now?? the church needs His Power and everything the Bible promised that come with it to equip the saints. I disagree with categorical setup of this.I believe they're all one.Countless times i've experienced when you pray in tongues 1 Cor 14:2, people in different languages can recieve gift of interpretation.For example theres been times in prayer meetings where people pray in tongues and a foreign serbian woman started speaking to someone else after prayer in serbian assuming the person spoke in serbian.But god gave gift of interpreation in that moment to speak to her through tongues.Also this makes Acts more clear because it said different people heard their own languages(So suggests one movement of words uttered rather than a tongue speaking direct to different people).Also some mocked saying they were drunk because they didnt receive interpretation so was hearing the 1 Cor:14:2(mysteries) so thought it was gibberish.So this implies Apostles were also coming out praying and people from different languages started hearing their own language and god communicating to them.(prophetic tongues). But some didnt receive gift of interpretation so started mocking them saying they were drunk because they only heard unintelligble language.If someone has gift of interpretation, alot of them say when you hear it, it's worship to god but can also be prophetic God giving a message prophetically through tongues where he's speaking for everyone to hear.

@@hende8445 it’s not my categorical setup, it’s listed as this in 1 Corinthians 14. You just have to read down further. 1 Corinthians 14:4 “He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.” Who does it edify? Does that say himself? Now go to verse 5. You should also understand what Paul is trying to teach these people. They’re getting wild and out of order, so he’s trying to wrangle them back in and bring back in order. 1 Corinthians 14:5 I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; forth he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification. Paul is trying to say if you speak in tongues in church pray for interpretation so it can edify the whole church, not just one person. This chapter and the chapter before is about edifying the church as a whole, not just yourself. I have done all three. You can tell the difference when you speak in tongues if an interpretation will follow afterwards. The whole church can usually tell the difference. God doesn’t just make you go into things blind. The Holy Spirit leads and guides and you just follow His leading. In the beginning of 14 it specifically says it’s between the one praying in tongues and God. Go further down and it says tongues can be used for the edification of the church and equal with the gift of prophecy if it’s interpreted. That leaves one more use for tongues… the one left is tongues that’s in a language you do not know but needed to for ministering. It’s not rocket science and can clearly be seen.

I will tell you from my tribulation just so you can learn by revelation. I went back and forwards on this gift of tongues for YEARS. I had every argument to go against it and everything about it. God started to slowly send sermons to break the religious yolks that I had created. It had gotten so bad to the point where I didn’t event think I was saved. One day, in my bedroom alone I was in prayer and I just stepped out in faith and asked God to “baptize me in your Holy Spirt” out of nowhere I began to speak in a unintelligible language which sounded like babbling. I felt a fire in my stomach and I didn’t want to stop it because it felt pleasing to my spirit man. In that moment it was like my spiritual eyes were opened to the reality of this faith. The Holy Spirit brings power. The same Holy Spirit that existed in the upperroom also exists today and he only manifests his glory to those with FAITH.

I’m in the boat with you brother. Also went back and forth on it until I read what Paul said about it. I know it’s something personal between the individual and God. I’ve been reminded of the time when I was first born again and God would visit me in my room, on the floor as I talked to him; He would engulf me in the Holy Spirit as if I was in a bubble where nothing bothered me, I felt complete peace, like you said, I didn’t want it to stop. I know it was a taste of heaven. It happened many times during my prayer before bed. I would go to the bathroom and look in the mirror and my face glowed like Moses’ face described in the scriptures. I wouldn’t be surprised if God granted me the gift of tongues but I was not given that. I was given silence and pure peace. All I had in my mouth was praises and the truth of the Word. I btw do speak multiple languages. Needless to say, it is between you and God and I accept that in this debate.

So your claim is that you need to believe in something for it to happen, even though there are plenty of people that supposedly speak in tongues and they don't even know the gospel. If they did, they wouldn't be making the claim that you aren't saved unless you can speak in tongues. Maybe they aren't even communicating with the Holy spirit at all but something else. @otallono I totally apologize if I made it sound like that at all. I certainly do not in any way think that people who pray in tongues are better in any way than people that don't. I don't think you have to pray in tongues to be saved. Let's look at like this... if I were the enemy of your soul, the last thing I would want is for you to learn who you really are, and to walk in the full authority that you have been given by the Father. So, I would attack those things that are important, and make them controversial.... starting with your supernatural ability to pray. I'm definitely no scholor. If your struggling with it (like I did) and your sincere about knowing, ask Holy Spirit and He will show you. He's a total gentleman. God bless

@@ZachMillar While it may be true that often times you believe in it before you walk in it. that isn't really always true, just sometimes. Other times, people walk in something, or do something, and then later go back and discover what they even did. For instance, God can heal someone regardless of what you believe. You can pray with 0 faith and belief and He will still heal someone. And you can be baptised , in the spirit, without believing or understanding it. But I do agree, that typically the order goes believing and then seeing.

I appreciate the humility of the guests. I used to be hesitant about tongues. Now (years later) I pray in tongues for sometimes hours per day. Of course this is after receiving the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It’s easy to be doubtful about it at first then you realize that tongues builds up your spirit man in a way that natural language sometimes fails to do. Sometimes we just don’t have the words to pray the things that we need to pray, but Holy Spirit knows, and will give utterance through tongues. That is, if we are hungry for it (we can stifle this by trying to control how Holy Spirit operates in our lives through our own intellectualism - a form of pride). I always leave my time in prayer through tongues being built up. I have actually received ministry from people through their tongues too. Tongues bypasses the mind and goes straight to the spirit which a lot of times is where we need the deep work. My loving encouragement to George is to humbly ask and petition of God, “If this is from You, I want it all.” See what happens!

George asked a good question about Jesus and why he didn't speak in tongue. There are two stories that come to mind. One being when the disciples asked Jesus why they weren't fasting like everyone else and Jesus replies "As long as the bride groom is with them they cannot fast" Fasting brings us closer to the bridegroom and at the time the disciples has Him there. Jesus said in John 16:7 That when Jesus goes away he would send a helper speaking of the Holy spirit meaning he would depart from them giving them the Holy Spirit in return. It is only by the Holy spirit that we speak in tongues which he poured out after he departed. We can dismiss scripture and what it says. I myself have a hard time with the concept of speaking in tongues and haven't experienced it myself but the one thing that God says is that he gives spiritual gifts and speaking in tongues is one and thay we have authority over the demons. I've praying about it to God and he's been revealing to me a lot of things and hopefully he allows me to have that spiritual gift. I hope George reads this. I'm with you bud and you're on the right path. P.S You do not NEED to speak in tongues for your salvation. It's just a gift. Jesus is our salvation.

You assume Jesus didn't speak in tongues because it never directly gets spoken about in the Bible. Yet I can tell you He did and He did all the time. In order to be a teacher to His disciples, He would have had to show them all the gifts in action. Where did He show the disciples how to speak in tongues? First you need to know what speaking in tongues actually is. It's not babbling gibberish. The answer can be found in Acts 2, speaking the wonderful works of God. Now, can you find where Jesus does this? All over the place! Also, Jesus mentions to His disciples that they will be able to speak in new tongues. People gloss over this. But there is something interesting here. The word "new". If there is a word "new", then that means there must be "old" tongues. But we never see that phrase in the Bible anywhere. It makes sense to believe that things spoken that aren't of the spirit of God are "old" tongues. They don't necessarily have to be negative or bad words or phrases, but just things spoken that aren't wonderful works of God.
@joshyingling
@joshyingling 5 месяцев назад
@@Spirit-FilledMindset you really need to learn about proper hermeneutics. Tongues means languages….. so if (to fulfill part of the prophecy in Joel) Jesus said you will speak in new languages that doesn’t imply old languages…… how are you reading your bible my friend? Also there is this glaring problem with every single instant of what you call tongues comes back as nothing but gibberish….. which the word in scripture never meant gibberish.

I was always sceptical of tongues. I even went so far as telling a good friend of mine that I felt it wasn't a gift I would ever receive. One night while talking to God it just happened, things were flowing out of my mouth I had no clue what I was saying. The crazy thing is I was so worried about it just being me doing something and not of God that I actively was thinking about other things while it was going on and thats how I knew for certain it wasnt just me. I could be thinking about other things while this speech was flowing from my mouth, was quite literally letting the Holy Spirit take the wheel. This wasn't a gift I sought after or even wanted but God blessed me with it anyway and it did increase my faith.

About two months ago, I had a profound experience while fasting. One of my purposes for fasting was to receive the Holy Spirit, as God had promised. On the second day, which I dedicated to speaking to God about His promise of the Holy Spirit, I began praying at around 10:14 a.m., earnestly seeking to be filled with the Spirit of God. About five minutes into my prayer, nothing happened, and I started to feel discouraged, thinking maybe this wasn't for me. Still, my faith in God remained strong, though I thought it might not be His will to fill me with the Spirit to the point of speaking in tongues. I stopped praying and went on RU-vid to read about other people's experiences with receiving the Holy Spirit. While I was happy for them, I felt unsatisfied and disappointed. As I was about to leave the room, I felt hurt, questioning why I, as a child of God, hadn't received a promise meant for all His children. In a moment of spiritual determination, I decided I wouldn't leave the room until God filled me with His Spirit. I began praying again, weeping bitterly and telling God I couldn't be His child if His promise wasn't fulfilled in me. As I repeatedly said, "Give me your Holy Spirit," after about eight repetitions, my tongue suddenly changed to gibberish. I could no longer speak English clearly, and the words coming out of my mouth were incomprehensible to me. Despite my efforts to correct my speech, my tongue kept getting distorted, and I panicked, fearing I would never speak properly again. I knew what I wanted to say in my heart, and my brain understood it, but my words came out as gibberish. Eventually, I had to cover my mouth with my hand to stop speaking because I couldn't close my mouth while longing to receive the Holy Spirit. I fell to my knees on the bed, feeling weak as if my energy was drained, but my spirit was incredibly energetic and satisfied. I knew instantly that God had answered my prayers, and I started laughing and crying with excitement, thinking, "What was that?" A thought came to me to stand up and praise God. As I stood and waved my hands, saying, "Thank you, Jesus, for giving me your Holy Spirit," my tongue changed again, and I started speaking in gibberish uncontrollably. I covered my mouth again, feeling both excited and satisfied. Since then, I haven't experienced it again, possibly out of fear of doubting God's work. However, I am now satisfied and have noticed a profound understanding of scripture when I read or listen to the Bible. When I pray, I often feel as though God is right there, listening to what I'm saying.

Paul was referencing that the gift of speaking in tongues is beneficial personally and collectively. Paul says to do it quietly if there’s no one to interpret because it’s still personally edifying. But this passage highlights doing everything in love and to eagerly desire the gifts that build up the church. This is where he said interpreting is great because it also builds up the body. He also says here desire eagerly to prophesy because it is edifying for the corporate body.
@gracenroses7471
@gracenroses7471 5 месяцев назад
Food for thought about the second type of speaking in tongue: 1 Corinthians 14, or actually for a fuller context read chapters 12-14, but in chpt. 14 Paul talks about prophesy in comparison to tongues. Where prophecy edifies, strengthens and comforts the church, he says we should eagerly desire this particular gift of the spirit. Then he addresses speaking in tongues, he doesn’t put it down but contrasts it by saying tongues are spoken to God (not the church) it edifies you the speaker (not the church). He says he’d like for everyone to speak in tongues as he speaks in tongues himself, but he calls it a lesser gift then prophecy, because prophecy benefits a wider range of people. Also, in the context of a congregational setting, a tongue to benefit the congregation needs an interpreter. But when there is no interpreter one is to stay quiet or to do it personally in your own quiet time with the Lord so your own spirit is edified and strengthened. In other words this isn’t to be misused or for show or to be done in a disorderly way (a problem the Corinthian church was having). The purpose is to edify you, or the body only of there’s an interpreter. This isn’t uncontrollable spontaneity. The Spirit of God is not out of control. God is a God of order and peace so this gift is not to be done impulsively. But rather under the control of the Spirit done in a fitting and orderly way.
@fost5956
@fost5956 3 месяца назад
It’s not necessarily a lesser gift. KJV translates that portion badly where it says “that rather prophesy” . The actually translation means “in order to prophesy”.. meaning the speaking in tongues helps and gives you the ability in order to prophesy to be able to edify the whole church

Re-read it from the KJV John 7:37-38 In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

speaking in tongues helps a lot. when you dont know how to pray for something or you are tired, the Holy Spirit takes over. its also a form of charging, I always speak in tongues a couple of minutes before prayer and boy that prayer has a power. Also when the Holy Spirit prays, He prays the perfect will and sometimes its good that we do not understand it :) it is an amazing gift for sure

It doesn’t make you any more holy anymore than it makes you a sinner, some people are intimidated by it but the scripture also mentions that we talk to God, not men. Some one speaking in tongues shouldn’t make you feel less holy and neither should it make them anymore holy but some people are intimidated by tongues, the fact that he asked, how come Jesus didn’t speak in tongues highlights problems we have in the church today. “Men wrote the scriptures” i’m so happy we can openly discuss these things. Is it possible that some people are jealous in thinking that they’re not holy if they don’t speak in tongues. If they’re disrupting the service then that’s demonic but you never know what someone may be going through, believe me, when they speak in tongues. It’s like a well needed medication to get them through, I spoke in tongues initially when I got saved and then that was it, afterwards I prayed to receive the actual gift and I did.

I've been saved for 13 years. Just about every church i have been to or most Christians i know make it seem like you dont have the Holy Spirit if you dont speak in tongues (aka not saved). I had many dreams, heard the Lord twice audibly, and received healing in my left shoulder by the power of God. I'm not saying these things have to happen for us to know that we are saved but i am saying what and why did i have those experiences if I dont speak in tongues (aka filled with the Holy Spirit). Because tongues is a gift that the Holy Spirit gives to His choosing and all the gifts are beautiful. Like Paul said, I would wrather we all have the gift of prophecy so that we can all understand and be edified in Christ! 1 Corinthians 14 (Also, the greatest gift out of all these gifts is LOVE 1 Corinthians 13: 1-10) God bless

Amen brother and you do have the Holy Spirit in you and you are saved after being born again. End of story anyone who is telling you that you need to speak in tongues to be saved is speaking a false doctrine. And will be judged accordingly. Speaking in tongues is a gift. Just like the gift of prophecy. Not everyone has the gifts but everyone who is baptized and believes in their heart that Jesus Christ is the son of god is saved. Hey George! I admire your curiosity and desire to learn. In Acts 2, when God's Spirit was poured out they all spake in other tongues, this was the outward sign that an inward change was happening. Every example we are given post ascension of Jesus, the sign that people are filled is that they speak in other tongues. This can be seen in Acts 2, 8 and 10. In chapter 10:44-48 when the Gentiles received God's Spirit its said that Peter and the Jews knew that they had because they had HEARD them speak with other tongues! It is for you today! Paul talks about praying in an unknown tongue and how the Spirit of God utterings groanings where it intercedes on our behalf (Romans 8:26). In that same chapter where it talks about tongues and interpretation it also talks about speaking in tongues to oneself and edifying oneself so it doesn't always have to accompany an interpretation. Only if it is spoken to the church! I encourage you to continue seeking and searching, God will give you this experience.

I have experienced speaking in tongues, but it has only been an infilling of the spirit, and not something I can speak like I am talking in conversation. I don’t, to my knowledge, now have an ability to speak in tongues at will, and any time I have tried to purposefully do it, it has felt uncomfortable and disingenuous. I’ve only ever had three infilling of the Holy Spirit where I spoke in tongues, and I yearn for those moments to happen again. It was such a blessing each and every time, and I didn’t want to leave, I actually cried out for God not to leave me because he’s never felt so close. I’m sure other Christian’s can empathize with the experience that God can feel far off at times, though we know in scripture He is with us always. To describe what it felt like for me, to people who might want to know. It came upon me almost like the sensation you feel when you are about to vomit, your core flexes, your mouth opens, and there is nothing you can do to stop it from coming out of you from your deepest innermost being. If you lean into the feeling, it just goes. I didn’t know what I was saying, but I felt peace, I expelled grief, and I cherished the moment for as long as it lasted. I just wanted to stay there, and even after I stopped speaking in tongues, I lingered in prayer just sitting in the moment. There isn’t a formula to make it happen, I don’t speak in tongues every time I pray, and as I’ve said, the Holy Spirit was completely in control of when it happened. If you are searching, just continue to pray to God, open your heart to Him honestly, and invite Him to work in your life. If God decides to bless you with the gift of tongues for His purposes, He will. I received the gift in grief, and some of my anger, sadness, and betrayal was even directed at God. Like a child throwing a tantrum, but like the loving father He is, He came down to me and held me close, and His spirit grieved with me. Praise God. Thank you for your love, and for your gifts to us.

Tounges is not an unknown language!! The gift of tounges was given to the apostle for a sign and to talk to others from different nations who didn’t speak the same as the apostles. In order to spread the gospel. And tongues were active until the scriptures were complete. ”Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away. For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.“ ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬ And notice how tounges were always listed last among the gifts, trying to show that they were the least important gift given by the Holy Spirit. And the scripture above clearly states that the gifts are in part and will be done away with when that which is perfect comes in(fullness of scripture).
@DominickRoselli
@DominickRoselli 5 месяцев назад
Yeah, no, that's not what that scripture means- you also neglected to quote the rest of it, which goes on to say: "When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child; but when I became a man, I put away childish things. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love." Do you "know as you are known?" Do you have the full reflection of God's glory? No? Then we have not received "the perfect" yet.

"He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself..." - 1 Corinthians 14:4 The primary purpose for the gift of tongues is to edify and strengthen ourselves in God. The modern church hasn't understood the gift of tongues given expressly in a corporate setting and therefore has not given it a proper place. The Scripture clearly states that when we come together, one has a tongue, a psalm, a prophecy etc - when publicly using a tongue to edify the Church, if there is no interpreter, then it does not add value to the lives of the hearers. However, personally praying in tongues when the Church is gathered, or in your own time, is a pure and beautiful thing as it is an undefiled prayer language, free of anything that might be selfish or fleshy because it is Spirit to Spirit. If only people would understand the Word of God, then the Body of Christ would be united on doctrine that ultimately is for our benefit!

I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also. And then in 1 Corinthians 14:18 we see Paul reaffirm it by saying he speaks in tongues more then anyone… so if one of the greatest apostles by accomplishments prayed in tongues and sang in tongues so much that he know he did it more then anyone else … a believer in 2024 should probably too

People forget we are filled with the Holy Spirit when we turn to Christ. Baptism in water is just the physical baptism we get 1. As commanded to do by God and 2. As a public declaration of our commitment to follow Christ. The Holy Spirit will not always give you the same gifts as other people, nor are you saved because you have a specific gift. Speaking in tongues is not required to be saved. I say this because some make that a requirement, which puts so much unnecessary pressure on people and promotes faking it. There are so many gifts of the Spirit and yet people focus on the one they can hear.

In Acts ch.2, after the believers recieved the Holy Spirit and spoke in " tongues", three times the men in the crowd questioned how they were hearing the believers speak in their native languages. The reason this is repeated three times is to make us aware that the miracle for those in the crowd wasn't that the believers were speaking in their native languages ,but that the believers were all speaking in the same one spiritual language and those in the crowd were Hearing what they said in their individual native languages. This chapter is speaking in " tongues"operating as: 1) The first evidence that a believer has recieved the Holy Spirit. 2) A sign to unbelievers, the men in the crowd.

Paul doesn't show a distinction between the two types of tongues (Private & public). I like to think of it as one gift of tongues with two uses (private and public use). When Paul asks the question 'do all speak in tongues' he clearly has the public use in mind and of course not all will speak in tongues in a public setting requiring interpretation. In a private capacity not all will speak in tongues, but that doesn't necessarily mean that all can't. As you know some won't because they don't believe the gift of tongues is for today. I personally believe the gift of tongues is available for every believer who recognizes their need for it and of course desires it. It is simply the overflow of being Baptised or Filled with the Holy Spirit until it happens to you - you will never be able to explain it or understand it properly. They did not preach in Acts 2 they praised God - Peter done the preaching.

I was born into charismatic Pentecostal churches, I started “praying in tongues” when I was about 15 yrs old. I did that for about 12 years, but then I started studying the topic of tongues for myself, for the first time, and I came to the conclusion that the gift of tongues is only 1 gift, and it only serves 1 purpose, it is not a prayer language, it is only the supernatural ability to speak in foreign languages to spread the gospel to foreign speakers. Acts 2 is our only example of the gift being acted out, and being explained in great detail. The mind blowing thing that I found out is that there isn’t a single place in scripture where someone ever prays in a private prayer language. NOT A SINGLE PLACE. In Corinthians 14, Paul talks ABOUT the gift of tongues, but no one is acting it out. So the only way we can interpret it is through the lens of what took place in Acts 2. There aren’t 4 different kinds tongues listed anywhere in scripture, and in 1 corinthians 14, Paul never makes any kind of distinction between separate tongues, there is only one gift of tongues mentioned in corinthians. Claiming that Paul is making any kind of distinction between 4 different kinds of tongues is eisegesis, you’re reading your own preconceived notion, of 4 different tongues, or whatever you believe, into the text. 1 Corinthians 14 is way easier to understand through the lens of Acts 2, when you try to add other tongues to it, the chapter becomes in cohesive, chaotic, and out of line with the rest of scripture. If you disagree, then please, ONLY respond with, at least, a single verse where Jesus, or ANY of the apostles, or ANY of the disciples, or ANYONE in the Bible, ever going off and praying in a private prayer language. If you can’t provide a single verse with that criteria met, then you have no biblical bases to argue from.

Tongues’ (read, *‘languages’* ) - the divine gift, is the God given ability to effortlessly learn to speak and be understood through real-language barriers. It is not xenoglossy, nor is it the self-created non-cognitive non-language utterance of modern tongues-speech.

A good majority of you in these comments are not knowledged on speaking tongues at all, so you call it demonic! How quick you are to judge what you dont understand and claim to know what youre talking about. Without even knowing it, you blaspheme the Holy spirit! Quit judging christians and leave them to believe that theyre blessed by God to speak in tongues, because at least they have the faith and courage to atleast attempt to speak in tongues!

Their faith is what will cause them to be blessed, but your doubt is what will cause you to stumble. God is more powerful than our little brains can imagine. If he wanted to, he could make a non believers speak tongues! So why when a brother in Christ claims to speak tongues, you're like the wicked people in the Bible that say that they're possessed or speaking gibberish or that they're not even a proper Christian. You are just as wicked as the people in the bible when you judge people like this!

Speaking in tongues was the first supernatural thing to me after receiving Christ. I was sceptical and didn't want them but when fasting on monday and was praying in English and immediately changed to tongues,i changed to English and on the third consecutive time i let myself pray in tongues(tears flowed uncontrollable too). I didn't actually Know those were tongues until I asked my christian friend of what happened when I prayed and he laughed telling me those were tongues. I have since prayed everday since 2015 in highschool.

I used to believe that it was not possible to speak in tongues. But while in university, I began to desire the gift and asked God for it by consistently praying about it. Then one day my roommate and friend came to me saying she felt led to pray with me to receive the gift of speaking in tongues. I had never mentioned my desire for this gift to her. So she prayed with me and I waited to see what would happen and nothing happened that day, but she said I had received the gift and I should have faith that I have received it. A few days later, while attending a student fellowship, I was just praying to God and pouring out my heart to him and didn't even realise it when I suddenly broke into unknown language without even trying, because the power of the Holy Spirit took over and it was then I knew that I had truly received the gift and ever since then, speaking in tongues has greatly edified me and helped me pray better. This gift of the Holy Spirit is for edification and interceding of the Holy Spirit. It is the work of the Holy Spirit which Jesus has given to everyone of us. We only need to ask for it if we genuinely desire it. Consistency in asking through prayers is the key. God wants to fill us with the gift of His Spirit so we live and pray according to His will and purpose for our lives. "In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans." (Romans 8:26) This reference from Paul in Romans is what Jesus was speaking about in John 16:13 about sending us the Holy Spirit, "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on His own; He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to come. "For anyone who speaks in a tongues does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church." (1 Corinthians 14:2-4) God bless us all.

Look at this point. The apostle Paul said that if there are no interpreters, does o speak in tongues be quiet. So, if a person can pray without interpreters and have the ability to shut or not, is because you can pray in tongues when you want. And Paul said that who pray in tongues edify himself. Paul said that he prayed in tongues more than anybody. If you see the Greek (original text) you see that are diference between tongue (dialects) and tongue (supernatural language). And Paul said too, if someone pray in tongues, pray too for the interpretation. Not debating, just showing what the text says. Thank you very much for the content 🤗

14:2 For He who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him. 4) He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself himself. In a church gathering, if someone speaks openly to the congregation in tongues there must be someone to interpret. But, if you are speaking in tongues unto to the Lord, for yourself, you are speaking mysteries and edifying yourself by the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:18-19 Paul writes, I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all, yet in the church I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I may teach others also,than 10 thousand words in a tongue.

Even in the Old Testament tongues are mentioned. There’s tongues of men, tongues of angels and unknown tongues . The Holy Ghost gives utterances and then a human being gives a voice to that. Acts has so much of those instances. Thanks Cliffe tongues are not translated but interpreted. May the eyes of your understanding be opened. Hi! I speak in tongues & mine doesn’t sound like babble, it sounds similar to Hebrew. Also, I’m fully in control of when I choose to speak in my prayer language or not. (And so is everyone I know who does it). It’s allowing the Holy Spirit to pray a perfect prayer thru me when my mind or intellect falls short. This morning I passed a horrible accident on the road & prayed in tongues (cause I obviously don’t know what the injuries were) but God knows what they need so it’s a way I can pray specifics that are beyond my physical knowledge 😊 it also strengths your spirit to pray in tongues. I wanted it for years before it began but it’s so worth it. If you’d like it, ask the Lord and keep seeking, it’ll come ❤

--- When examining this passage from 1 Corinthians 14:18-19, we cannot conclude that speaking in tongues is practiced exclusively within the Church. Here's why: ## Context Analysis 1. Paul clearly distinguishes between two contexts: - His personal experience of speaking in tongues - The use of the gift of tongues in the assembly (the Church) 2. He states: "I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you." This statement suggests a personal practice outside the Church setting. 3. He then introduces a specific preference for the Church context: "But in the Church, I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue." ## Implications 1. Speaking in tongues seems to be practiced both privately and within the Church. 2. Paul values this practice in general, as evidenced by his gratitude. 3. In the specific context of the Church, Paul prioritizes understanding and mutual edification. ## Conclusion This passage does not limit speaking in tongues exclusively to the Church. On the contrary, it suggests that this practice can occur in different contexts, but its use in the assembly should be guided by the concern to edify and instruct other believers. It is important to note that this verse is part of Paul's broader teaching on spiritual gifts and their appropriate use in the Christian community. ## Interpretation of Speaking in Tongues 1. **Church Context**: In 1 Corinthians 14, Paul emphasizes that speaking in tongues should be accompanied by interpretation when practiced in the Church so that the congregation can be edified. He indicates that if an interpreter is not present, the person speaking in tongues should remain silent and speak to God. 2. **Personal Practice**: In a private practice, speaking in tongues is often considered a form of prayer or praise directed to God, where interpretation is not necessary. Paul mentions that the one who speaks in tongues "does not speak to men but to God," indicating that this type of prayer is spiritual and personal. ## Conclusion An interpreter is not necessary for speaking in tongues to be valid in a private context. Personal practice is primarily direct communication with God, without the requirement of interpretation. However, in a communal setting, interpretation is essential for collective edification.

As someone who was raised Pentecostal (Assembly of God). We speak in tongues as sign that we have been Baptized in the Holy Spirit and not necessarily to be interpreted, but just in praising aloud to God or by praying and the laying of hands of someone needing prayer. I pray in tongues whenever I am moved in the Spirit and my English gives way to something my mind can’t comprehend but my Spirit does and it’s not in vanity but all for God’s glory. Those who want this gift ask Him. ”Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?“ ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭7‬-‭11‬ ‭KJV‬‬ Paul gives us further instructions on being Baptized in the Holy Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12-14

I am glad to see so many enjoy the baptism of Holy Spirit. The day I began praying in the spirit my entire life changed my discernment increased. I now help set others free through deliverance prayer and cast out demons and began a discipleship program (free) when I pray in tongues, I immediately get downloads (words of knowledge for others or even prophecy) the Lord speaks to me as I pray in the spirit, whether it’s silent or out loud. When I’m praying for someone else who needs healing or deliverance. I pray out loud when prompted I’m obedient at all times then I receive the word and share it with the person and they always confirm that it’s true. Speaking in tongues encourage my faith and changed my life. I am no longer religious. I now have a relationship. Thank you Lord.There is a time and place for everything we don’t just walk around babbling we have self-control and honor the gifts of the spirit to serve and intercede. If you want the Baptism you have to believe and then ASK and you will receive. I am available to pray with you and encourage you. In my experience it can be done in less than 5 minutes if you’re desperate (trust and believe) sometimes it takes longer when people ‘think’ too much.

One day while i was a sleep i was speaking some kind of language i didn’t understand, after that in the same dream i heard a certain church leader saying psalms 81… i went to read that psalm and i saw verse 6 the second part of it says: I HEARD A VOICE I DID NOT RECOGNISE.. the word voice in arabic version was tongue…. Here’s another story: One day in my car i started to pray then i start to speak in different language. I heard something in me saying this: you are giving thanks. I stoped to check how i going to know if this is true immediately i remembered this verse in 1 corenthians 14:16 it says: “Otherwise, if you are praising God with your spirit, how can someone without the gift say “Amen” to your thanksgiving, since he does not know what you are saying?” ‭ In this verse it says we give thanks in the spirit.. I have the bible talking about the speaking in other languages and i have my own experience which i know was from God to confirm that the speaking in tongues is true… i know why the devil is against this reality: because: 1corinthians14:4 and Jude1: 20 reveals important instructions for a believer. They are two witnesses saying same truth.. and God said: upon two or three witnesses every matter established….

This is a good subject to discuss. There is more than 1 meaning to "Tongues". As Cliff pointed out there are The Day of Pentecost in the Book of Acts, there is a Ministerial Gift given by the Holy Spirit, and if you study 1 Cor 14 you will see Paul describes a communication between our Spirit man (The part of us that is made in the Image of God. We are a Spirit(John 4:24), we have a soul (mind, will, and emotions), and we live in a body) and God. The "babble, jiberish" is not ment of us to understand in our mind, it is meant as Us choosing to use the gift God offered to us to speak out "mysteries" in prayer. For I know not how to pray, so I speak out mysteries that only God knows, to His Glory, and if I listen in my Spirit He says he will Show the answer for me that I am praying out. I can pray this way at any time I chose to, it is a gift He give to us to use. But Paul also tells us to not have a prayer meeting like this in the presence of the unlearned. You don't know what you don't know. They thought on the Day of Pentecost the Disciples were drunk. So yeah, use some common sense. Now if a person is taught and wants that gift, then they are no longer unlearned. But it is not make you better than someone else. It is one more gift God gives us to succeed in this life to show off His Glory, for himself. Years ago I heard a saying, "It is apparent God does nothing in this realm without our prayer." Not that He can"t, but He chooses to work with us, to honor His word to Adam. This is just one more way we can serve Him to His Glory. But it does not make you more loved by God either, we are His Children, He love us all. We are set in the Body as it Pleases Him...

As a believer, I believe the praying for tongues is for everyone as it is listed as one of the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit according to 1 Corinthians 12. And not to brag, but I received it, because I believe I hungered/desired this give. And yes, I believe it can be a powerful tool, and yes, as you practice it more and more it reaches levels where it becomes more intense. So far, |I've experienced 3 levels, level 1 (just being the normal pray language between me and God) level 2 (and I'm saying this with the utmost seriousness, but when people would hear me they might think I have a demon inside me, because the tongue is spoken deep, but with authority, (if I can put it that way) but, I've been led to understand by the Holy Spirit this tongue is meant, specifically for spiritual warfare. Level 3 I don't fully understand it, yet, to be honest. Your tongue comes over, like that of someone, rapping very fast? And again, no disrespect, that's just my own opinion. I think believers should be careful with this gift as Paul states in 1 Corinthians 14, the gift of tongues is their to motivate and encourage the believer, not for bragging and standing among believers who don't have the gift, praying in your tongue. Especially new, baby believers, who may think you're crazy. Paul states, that we should rather, desire to prophecy, where we can encourage the congregation, otherwise, pray for the interpretation of your tongue, that is, if there is no-one to interpret it. Last, If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13.1

When you don't believe in what the bible teaches about tongues you have to do mental gymnastics with the scriptures. 1. Peter did not preach in tongues, he preached in a known language. Acts 2: ...hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God.” 12 And all were amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13 But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.” Why are they saying that they were filled with new wine? Because they sounded drunk. 2. Peter actually got up and preached in a known language 4 But Peter, standing with the eleven, lifted up his voice and addressed them: “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words. 15 For these people are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.[b] 16 But this is what was uttered through the prophet Joel:... A matter of fact there's no where in the bible that says tongues were used for evangelical purpose. Acts 10:44-48: In this passage, Peter is preaching to Cornelius and his household, who are Gentiles. As Peter spoke, "the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word," and they began speaking in tongues and praising God. again this was not used for evangelism. Acts 19:1-7: Here, Paul encounters some disciples in Ephesus who had only received the baptism of John. After Paul laid his hands on them and they received the Holy Spirit, "they spoke with tongues and prophesied." In 1 Corinthians 14 Paul talks about prophecy and tongues and give guidelines and instructions on how to use it. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. (This is so clear to me. You can speak in tongues to God) This means that you're not disrupting the service, this is done in order. You don't talk to people in tongues, you talk to God in tongues. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up. 13 Therefore, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret. 14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. 15 What am I to do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will pray with my mind also; I will sing praise with my spirit, but I will sing with my mind also. 16 Otherwise, if you give thanks with your spirit, how can anyone in the position of an outsider[b] say “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? 17 For you may be giving thanks well enough, but the other person is not being built up. 18 I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you. 19 Nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue. There's a place for personal use of tongues. But within the church service if someone speaks out publicly in tongues there needs to be an interpreter. In conclusion: 39 So, my brothers, earnestly desire to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. 40 But all things should be done decently and in order.

When I was repenting and sitting in ashes asking for forgiveness over my sins I prayed for the holy spirit and started speaking in”gibberish” tongues. There was so much controversy over this “babble tongue” i didn’t use it again for 2 years. My husband was not feeling well - he started to have what appeared to be a seizure in his lower legs - and asked me to pray over him. This didn’t seem normal to me - it seemed like a demonic attack so I was praying and felt very convicted to pray in tongues. The seizure stopped in his legs and he felt an angel reach in his mouth and pull something out of him. Since then his hernia he has had for 5 years was completely healed. He no longer has to wear a hernia belt. God healed him. My tongues was not a language. It was an unknown heavenly language and God used it to call an angel to my husband’s side. Don’t question how God works - just have faith that God is using his people for His glory! John 14:12 Jesus says we will do even greater things. Just because Jesus didn’t do it, doesn’t mean God can’t work in a new way. He will work in whatever way He desires to fulfill his purposes and message. Halleluyah!
