As a Nintendo Switch lover, I found the Steam Deck unnecessary to add to my gaming consoles and handhelds. However, quickly after buying it for various reasons I mention in the video, I quickly fell in love. Here's why you should or maybe shouldn't buy the Steam Deck!

My general rule lately is if I could buy it physically I would prioritize that for my switch. Then if I see it digital and it will have discounts, for sure I would buy that with my steam deck. Also lately I noticed that if it is available in Playstation and Steam only, I would buy it in Steam deck just because I am a sucker for portability :)

Was gonna get a steam deck, but this video actually convinced me that I don't need one. Over 5 years I've never experienced any issue with any stutters, crashes, or anything else on the Switch. And being that I really don't care about any PC exclusives I think I'm happy with what I have. Thank you!

Thanks for covering the Steam Deck. Bought mine mostly to start playing Coral Island. Have an Xbox but didn't want to wait until I could play it there. Also, a new power PC isn't anywhere financially in my future, but I could afford the SD. It's been so great to be able to play a variety of games I'd normally not be able to enjoy, and for the most part run really really well. Agree the bulkiness and low battery life issue are downers, but I play mostly at home and also prop my arms up for comfort when needed. Feel this was a great decision to go with the Steam Deck, no regrets.

I had a really similar experience with the switch. Sooo many ports just have awful performance and it really feels like devs don't care anymore. I have an lcd steam deck and it'll still run circles around my switch, even if it's not the most powerful thing. Crossing my fingers that devs will keep optimizing newer pc games for steam deck, and proton compatibility gets better haha

I’m in an odd situation where i can put up with the performance because i just enjoy holding the much lighter much smaller switch than the HUGE steam deck with its huge bezels and GIRTH. It’s cozy to hold and all but i can hold the switch longer. NI NO KUNI 2 runs like dog doo on the switch, like real bad and the deck runs it so smooth, but yet i still wanna play it on the switch it’s weird.

It can play Doom Eternal on Ultra Nightmare settings and get a consistent 60 fps. That’s crazy compared to the same game on the Switch which plays at low graphics settings and gets 30 fps. Hell, on the Deck, you can even turn on Ray Tracing with the max graphics settings and still get 30 fps….on a handheld.

I bought the LCD Steam Deck early this year and upgraded to the OLED on day 1. Now that the OLED is here, it’s easily replaced my Switch. I also got my wife the Deck and she has been obsessively playing Terraria on it. She never really touches the Switch anymore. It’s just chillin on its dock nowadays. Unless I feel like playing Mario again, I don’t think I’ll be playing it much again. The Deck is a terrific machine and I love playing on it!

Okay, the timing for this video is amazing! I have been trying to deicide if I should get the steam deck. I also have a switch and I love it but, the games I've been playing lately just don't play good! I also have a laptop but it's definitely not travel friendly. And I love playing in bed to relax. Just like you I’ve been happy and satisfied playing on my OLED Switch but some games run awesome on the switch other games run complete trash on it. There's something I do to fix the "text is too small" issue. I assign one of the buttons on the back to be the "Zoom" function. Then I change the right track pad to be "mouse input". If you do that, you can press the button on the back to activate zoom and then use the right track pad to move the zoom around. When you are done reading, just press the button you set on the back again and it will zoom out. The zoom button will also keep its position when you turn it on or off. I usually set the top left back button to be the zoom button. It's very helpful.

I have played Coral Island on the GamePass when it was in EA, I don't have the Gamepass anymore, but I am considering retrying to play it now it's in 1.0 version. Thanks for your honest opinion as always Miss Bubbles! I also got the Steam Deck OLED and I'm really in love with this (more or less) little device. The screen is stunning and even older games look great on it, Pokemon FireRed for example. I'm trying out different games here and there, but my main game atm is The Legend of Nayuta - Boundless Trails. It runs perfectly smooth at highest settings on the Deck and I can always continue on PC when I like. Tokyo Xanadu is great as well, btw.

So I own the switch og for a while til bought a switch lite then an OLED and bought many games for which most are RPG which I love. But it is time for a new on which I am hoping it backward comp. I traded my og for refub steam deck from game stop which got at good price and enjoying it the OLED was coming so bought it which help with my eye which I have an eye issue since last year and I can see better. I got the 512 version didn't seem right to get high and save money, suck great device and games I already and adding more. As for coral bwen wanting to try it out but have gotten so maybe I can win a copy of it if I get picked, enjoy the video and never hurt to try a new device though switch I great one still won't give it up grew up with Nintendo. Been looking at a bunch of different farming based games to play when I get my deck and saw Coral Island but lowkey on the fence to get it because its not finished despite the 1.0 release. I just feel like I'll get into it and end up finishing it really fast and be really disappointed that's its over. Other than that I'm also looking at Moonstone Island, Dreamlight Valley, Sun Haven, Run Factory 4, Fae Farm, and Cornucopia.

I actually had the same train of thought as you when I had my Switch. But once I saw that the Steam Deck can emulate PS2 pretty much perfectly, I had to have it. I sold my Switch and bought a Steam Deck last year, and it’s been the best gaming purchase I ever made. Even Valve’s customer service is amazing. I had to RMA last month and I was 2 months out of warranty, and they still replaced my device with a brand new one for FREE! Not only was it a brand new device, but it was the revised version which had minor improvements to my previous launch model. Now I can play Switch games and SO MUCH more! :D

In the short run it may cost you a little more but PC games goes on sale more often and sooner than on the Switch as well as free games. The main advantage of the Switch for most games is having hard copies of a game. (even some games require downloading on a SD card.)

My little sister is a Nintendo gamer 4Life. I did everything I could to keep her from getting a Deck and just getting a gaming PC rig. She got the Deck 🤦🏾‍♂ But after holding it in my hands and seeing how the interface works, I was actually impressed with it. It even has emulator support and I was able to get my little sister some of the old PS2 games we still had lying around in the house for her to play digitally on the Deck. I'm actually surprised it's having hardware issues right now. It's a pretty interesting piece of machinery.

I’m in the market for a Steam Deck. On top of working in front of a computer all day as well, my laptop has reached the end of its gaming capabilities. Meaning that while I could play Coral Island in early access, I cannot run it at its full release. Yes, I’m sad about that 😭. It is pricey but it sounds like it’s very worth saving up for based on multiple reviews I’ve watched. The chunky look of it reminds me of the Sega Game Gear so I don’t really mind it.

I have held off on getting a Steam Deck for 2 reasons: 1) my older brother told me not to buy the first gen of new hardware because it'll have problems and the next version will fix those problems (he was absolutely right it sounds like) and 2) I just know if I buy the OLED, sure enough the Switch 2 is gonna be announced and I won't be able to afford it right away. But I am going to save up to maybe be able to get an OLED Steam Deck, we shall see. There are a few games I would love to be able to play while using my laptop to do other things.

The issue I have with the steam deck, ROG Ally etc is size. I can slip a switch lite into my pocket and play Tears of the Kingdom etc wherever with zero fuss. While the deck is a much better device, I still can’t fully swap over because it’s too bulky to really be portable.

I think the Steam Deck is fully worth it if you already have a decently sized Steam library. I have close to 1000 games, so the Steam Deck has been great for me! I've been playing Cyber Shadow recently and it looks incredible on the OLED, I don't regret buying it at all, even with my Switch handy.

OKAY SO this video got me really excited about the steam deck, first I heard of it there were battery issues that I wouldn't have liked, also was on the fence about it being so big as I travel a lot, I wanted it to be higher quality to be worth making space for it in my bags. I'd definitely have a steam deck if I had the money for it! I don't really play my switch because the games I prefer are on steam (or I don't want to buy 2 of the same game for each platform) I don't always want to boot up my PC and feel stuck in the chair lol. I'd loooove to play coral island on steam version 😁 that I would definitely sit at my pc for all the time!

Commenting for coral island chance 😊 Just wanted to say i bought persona 5 (ps4), persona 5 royal(ps4), persona 5 royal on pc......and never got past the beginning. Something about trying it on the deck just made it all click for me and absolutely LOVED IT!!! Steam deck experience really is great!

I really love my Steam Deck, despite being the LCD model. I can play some of my PC games wherever I am. This device is also good for emulation. And for those with guts, you can even replace the internal storage without affecting the warranty. For those who want to have a gaming PC but tight on budget, I would recommend the Steam Deck, seriously

I'm jealous. I got one of the original Steam Deck LCDs some years ago, but I don't regret it. I just wish I could afford to get the OLED. I could sell my current one, but I loathe the thought of being without the Steam Deck while I wait for the OLED to get here.

I was considering buying a Steam Deck back in April, but my friends convinced me to just upgrade my PC and they helped me build it. If I didn't do that, I totally would've bought one. I really like how it looks but I never use my Switch in portable mode so maybe it wouldn't have been for me... oh and... Coral Island! haha

I bought a steam deck oled . After a month or so I actually struggle to find anything I want to play . It’s not quite good enough for AAA . It plays indies well but I can play them on switch . Also switch has rocket league and Nintendo titles. I think it depends on what you want to play. Also steam deck there can be a lot of faffing about with settings . I’m too lazy for the faff

Have had a steamdeck for over a year now, and loving it to play in bed :D My main choice for getting it was that I have loads of small games in my steam backlog, that I just didn't feel like playing on the comp and wished I could play in bed instead, that well, there the deck was :D I generally use a plushie as a cushion on my stomach to avoid the weight problem, and it's just perfect, hehe. Also got a hub to be able to play the big games on the living-room TV rather than PC screen, so it works both ways for me, either bed or the couch without having to move my PC around :D Also for the different launchers thing, I believe there's one out there you can install that'll have all of your different accounts in one launcher and even have it all there in the steam mode... I don't remember what it is, haven't really felt the need to tweak with my deck much so far with all the games I can already play on it, but I remember that one catching my eye. Will probably get it in the future. I might be late for the Coral Island GA already, but if I'm not, I'd love to be part of it :D Welcome to the Deck clan :D Glad you're loving it! Let's hope for a Switch 2 (or something) announcement soon ^^

Given most AAA third-party games tend to *not* be released on Nintendo Switch, you would have to get a handheld (e.g., Steam Deck), gaming PC, or different console (Xbox One/Series or PS4/PS5) as you'll be missing out on games if you mostly have the Switch, and there's also the issue of games that are released exclusively for older Nintendo consoles like the Wii and Wii U that aren't on Switch which would mandate getting a PC or at least an Xbox One (if the 360 game is compatible) for older games. If you already have a current gaming PC or a current console (PS5 or Xbox Series X), I wouldn't see a reason to get the Deck unless you have a need for a 2nd gaming PC or want a PC to use alongside the console. I already have an AORUS 15G gaming laptop where the RTX 2060 still plays most games despite its age and I also have an Xbox Series X console, so I don't see a reason to get the Steam Deck or other handhelds (Ally, Legion Go, and Claw). I know some people may like the handheld or portability of handheld PCs since laptops need a surface to play on and you'd have to also bring your mouse, controller, and charger every time you want to use the gaming laptop.

Coral Island seems like such a good game and I was really debating buying it so it would be really nice to win a key haha. Regarding the Deck: For GOG and Epic you can install something called the Heroic Launcher that makes installing these games way easier and automatically add them to your library under the "Non-steam" category :) Uplay and EA Play can still be a headache unfortunately. I'd say that Baldur's Gate 3 runs well UNTIL Act 3, even after the patches act 3's performance on the Deck is still not very good. Playable, yes, but enjoyable? That's debatable, but I'm sure it's going to continue getting better. You can also use it as an emulator BEAST, I have a ton of older PS1, PS2, GameCube, DS, 3DS, Gameboy Advance, etc, etc. games on it and Emudeck makes it super simple to have everything set up! (I also have a few Switch games but shh, don't tell Nintendo :P). The older model's screen is also nicer now that the 3.5 update dropped and the colours are more vibrant so if the price of the oled version is maybe too much for you (the potential reader), there's no shame in ordering the older model if you're willing to accept the few downsides mentionned in this video. I still have mine and I love it and don't plan to upgrade until the Deck 2 comes out :) There's also guides everywhere for everything you'd want to do with your Steam Deck, it's a great community of people online! I, for example, replaced the fan (it was an older and louder fan in my stock Steam Deck, they don't make them anymore ;)), replaced the backplate, the ssd (for a 2TB one), added thumbstick grips, a deckmate accessory and a 1TB SD card and it was all pretty easy to do since there's so many ressources online! Overall the Steam Deck is an amazing machine.

If the Steam Deck OLED was released over the original, I would have bought it, but as time passed on, I decided to wait for a Deck 2 with better specs. I feel the biggest advantage the Deck has is that the game library is the same on the Deck as it is on the PC, basically, you buy the game once and that's it, it runs on PC and Deck, no need to buy the games over and over again like we see on consoles. Better yet, because the Deck is scaleable like the PC, when a Deck 2 is released with better specs, it will feel like you're getting a free remaster of a lot of your games that will look and run better, normally on consoles, you don't get the enhancements or you have to pay for them, but the Deck being a PC, give it more powerful hardware and you can ramp up the visual setting. Another advantage is that the PC has by far the biggest games library of all platforms, going back decades and more games tend to be released on PC then other platforms, throw in that PS and Xbox games come to the PC and that you can emulate Switch games as well as emulate countless other platforms, it makes it the dream platform for gaming. Other bonuses like being far more open than consoles, being able to use it as a full-blown PC and games tend to be cheaper on the PC than other platforms, it's a very appealing platform. The Steam Deck is the closes we've got to a hybrid PC/console that offers the best of both worlds, it's not perfect but it offers a lot of the ease of use that console gamers expect whiles offering the openness that PC gamers expect. Longer term if sales numbers continue to rise, developers might end up targeting the hardware more directly, basically, using the PC port of the game but having specific optimisations for the Deck hardware, it is after all a fixed hardware platform like consoles so that is possible, and we are already seeing signs that many games have a preset that sets up the games controls, resolution, frame rate and visual setting, that gives it a very console like feel where you pick up and play. I feel so much more could be done on the presets, either by Valve, the games developers or the community, the community could have default presets for games so over the long run, most games don't need setting up, ideally, the games developers would do that but realistically, the community would be a better fit, they could even offer multiple presets like how consoles do it now with a performance mode at 60fps at lower visual settings, visual mode at 30fps, one in-between at 40fps and maybe a battery saver mode for gamers that don't care about visuals or frame rates but want to max the battery out, if Valve allows the community to do this, most games would have profiles for them overtime and maybe Valve could have a voting system for the best ones that get picked, for Valve, it would be as easy as changing the default game config with one that's setup for the Deck, that could be done right after installing a game and before you've started the game up, that for me would be a game changing in making the Deck very console friendly, whiles at the same time, allowing gamers to tweak settings if they want.

Honestly the only thing I have against the steam deck is just seeing the rog ally or Lenovo legion go with more horsepower. I do understand that valve and the devs for proton have gone hard at work to have games running great on the deck but just not also being able to run more demanding games on the system plus sad that can’t play games like call of duty or other games that have anti cheat software. But hope the next steam deck is a powerhouse because that’s when I’ll buy in a heart beat but for now mainly going for rog ally !
