We have all heard the advice "Steer With Your Feet" ... but is "steer with your feet" actually the whole story? Or is there more to it?
Adventure motorcycle riding is a full body sport and/or hobby. Although the feet are indeed an important piece of our success, "steer with your feet" advice is simply a footnote of a much bigger story.
Have a watch at a more comprehensive approach the ADV Motorcycle Steering.
Have fun out there!

These agility & skills courses/exercises are designed to help develop the fundamental riding skills of clutch, throttle, brake and active balance by the rider.
Precise practice in coordinating these techniques can lead to instinctive/reflexive actions by the rider and allow for more precise control of the motorcycle.
Mastery of these techniques allows the rider to more smoothly transition the bike when cornering as well as being able to react reflexively when encountering unexpected changes in surface traction in off road conditions.
Depending on your skill level, you may want to make the courses larger to feel more comfortable while you develop these skills.
Performing these exercises carries a risk of dropping your motorcycle which may result in damage to you or your motorcycle. Always be sure that your bike has the proper crash guards and that you also wear the appropriate protective gear.

@@advmotoskillz Thank you for your reply. I do have one quick question. I ride a F800 GSA. I am having trouble to accelerate while standing. I try to lean forward before I throttle up, but always find myself get thrown backwards. I also try to squeeze in the bike from my feet to my knees. This helps a bit, but as you know, the F800 engine case is right there and it gets really hot to hug with your lower legs. I see riders able to accelerate hard even through the whoops while standing. Am I missing something? Thanks
@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz 3 года назад
@@brandonchi8526 Let's see if we can give you a few ideas. Perhaps use a lower "attack position" posture: First, try squeezing with your knees onto the narrowest part of the seat, instead of the tank (if its too hot). Next, maybe more bend in the knees and hips back more (so a bit more squatting) to lower your center of gravity. Also, really tighten your core muscles (pull belly button in for strong stomach area). Try a few starts like this and if your throttle response is still throwing you back, then you may need stronger hold on the bars. These are all just ideas to try out ... tell us how you do!!

These videos are extremely helpful! Regarding pegs, do you suggest going very wide (outwards) for leverage? I already need lowered pegs, and the big rally pegs worries me regarding hitting stuff and clearance. Thanks!
@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz 3 года назад
😆👍🏻I wish I needed lower pegs!!! It would be great to touch both feet down to ground! I definitely like the widest pegs possible. Much more leverage to be able to stomp down and make the bike tip into turns or to quickly make it get back online after an unexpected bump. I’ve ridden on Pivot Pegz and like how they react for ankle flexion but I find them too narrow. After long stretches of standing my foot cramps because the outside of my foot is unsupported. As far as ground clearance… that is the trade off… but definitely comfort and bike control win out, in my opinion. Pegs are pretty tough and are somewhat malleable. I have a spare shift lever I pack when I go on a ride that I know there will be potential for bending…. so if you ride in an especially rocky area…. good to bring a back up peg.

Your videos are all excellent. Thank you for sharing them. I have a question regarding sand. I rarely have the opportunity to ride in sand but when I do is there anything I should prepare the bike for in particular? Is the sand particularly damaging to the chain and sprockets? Or is there anything else you would feel the need to warn me about? Many thanks. Charlie.
@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz 3 года назад
Hello Charlie It’s great to find a rider who is interested in riding sand. It is such a fun surface to ride once you have an understanding of some fundamentals. There is a real science to it. Bike preparation depends on how much sand and how far you want to ride. Flat sand vs dunes have different techniques and needs. But, let’s keep it simple. First, let’s tackle tire pressure. Everyone has an opinion on this topic, but most agree that deflated your tires perform better on sand. How much to deflate depends on how soft the sand is. The softer the sand the softer the tires should be. Most people ride sand at about 1.5 bar/22psi. Can be lower like 1.2 bar/17psi in extremely soft sand, like a long sand road that has had a lot of vehicles traffic which has fluffed up the sand. Damage to spokes or sprockets should not be an issue. However, if you have tires that are painted, there is a likelihood of the sidewalls losing paint when the rear tire is in a hole and is spinning when trying to get out. Air filter maintenance is a must after a good day of sand riding, especially if you happen to be behind someone who sends a roost back in your direction. Part of riding in sand is that there will be times you get stuck …It is what it is. Knowing a structured way to get unstuck will save a lot of energy and make the experience more enjoyable. Please watch our Sand Recovery video for more information ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2xksIqgdFaU.html Hope that helps ... let us know how it goes if you go out for a sand ride.
