slightly rant-y but i feel like i get a lot of comments saying similar things on this topic and I wanted to try express my thoughts!!
would love to know if you guys agree or not?? i think it's a hard subject bc fast fashion isn't exactly perfect and maybe we shouldn't be trying to emulate it, but I do think susty fashion needs to be more exciting in some way if we're going to get ppl to switch sides 😭
🫶 thanks sm for watching - pls like, comment and subscribe xx

agree! Its not even the research needed or the delayed gratification. Its that 90% of sustainable clothing brands play it safe with either very basic or very classic styles. On one hand I get it - they may reach more consumers. But on the other hand - I don't want to buy it because its boring to me.

so true, which is why i think a great option for sustainable fashion brands is made to order - that way they can experiment with styles without buying too much stock or creating waste!

My immediate answer, without even thinking or watching the video is a resounding NO. I'm lucky in that I can sew and have access to decent thrift stores, because I would not find clothes I like from sustainable fashion brands. The style of the clothes, the colors, it's all wrong for me. They don't make clothes for women, who like to look stylish or sexy. Or who need a cool and vibrant color palette. I don't ever wear brown or beige or rust or green or yellow. It's all wrong for my skintone. I'm a city girl, not a vegan yoga instructor, who lives on an island or a homesteading mom of 4 (no offense to anyone who is, obviously). My clothes need to be office appropriate or something I can wear going out. Sustainable brands just do not make clothes like that. Sorry for the rant, will watch the video now!

I fully agree! I love fashion and most sustainable brands do basics. Which is great but I want something fun.

As a fashion design student, I can tell you that it’s only a matter of time before we see sustainble fashion that offer more than just basics- especially small, independent designers! (I’m sure there are a few out there already but they aren’t always easy to find). Younger generations are a lot more aware of fast fashion’s impact thanks to the media. I’m currently developping my own clothing brand and I’ve been weighing between the option of going the fast fashion route through manufacturing, or doing things myself, sustainably. This definitely motivates me to do what’s right- especially if there’s a need to make it more fun. 😇 A few of my peers have plans to make their own sustainable fashion brands and they all have such different & fun styles! I look forward to seeing what the future holds for fashion.

Christy Dawn is a beautiful sustainable brand creating feminine, classic, cottagecore-esq pieces. They create regenerative dresses that you can actually compost! They are on the pricy side but very much worth it. They are comfortable, soft on the skin, and are just easy to wear!

The brand Organic Basics recently had a rebrand to make them appear more cool and youthful and their marketing is so much more appealing that what it used to be. They went from quite plain, simple and beige to more ‘on trend’ without losing any of the ethics

watching this wearing a sweater I knit and just perked up at you mentioning making your own clothes, it genuinely feels amazing to be like "I am WEARING something I MADE!" it makes every time you wear the piece so exciting

And that's why I sometimes purchase from fast fashion brands. I'm picky about fabrics and really make an effort to care for my clothes. Sustainable fashion can be costly and I do understand why they don't want to venture into trendy. They aren't guaranteed to make back the money because the reality is most people will go buy the cheaper fast fashion option.

Just clicked on your video and that answer is a resounding no. Every time I look on sites for sustainable brands, the clothes are super boring and often not even flattering. Lots of oversized, boxy shapes and all neutrals. I'm really into fashion and also color analysis. As a bright spring, I want pretty, feminine clothes in my color palette. I just can't find that in sustainable fashion.

agreed!! it's hard to find a different style when the clothes all seem so similar, maybe i'll do some research into brands that have a different style!

it's just alot of sustainable fashion is so millennial, business casual coded. Not rlly genz's vibe. And maybe that might just be because it's the biggest market rn🤷‍♀️.
@katierobinson

completely agree - really not a fan of quiet luxury but that seems to be the vibe for a lot of susty fashion brands and i can see why!! but not sure that tactic is working to bring change 🥴

For me sustainable fashion is just unpractical in terms of availbility and wearability. It s good for those who work from home or are on maternity leave, but I am a 9 to 5 girl. I need fashionable clothes for work and I need to find them within an afternoon. I don t want to spend a month searching for clothes. I have limited free time and i want to use it well.

completely see that some ppl don't have time - and i think this is where regulation needs to crack down on greenwashing so we can tell sustainable brands from non sustainable!!

@@katierobinson Definitely! And I am so looking forward to sustainable shopping malls or something like that, where you can find more of what you need in a shorter time! (in EU it’s not yet a thing).
