I really the UK would benefit from joint development with Turkey. The MOD has a history of delays and overspending and equipment issues i.e. Ajax armoured vehicles and the aircraft carriers whereas Turkey produces cost efficient, reliable and combat proven equipment.

I believe that they can go through these difficulties and rug roads successfully and healthily because historical evidence can show that Turkey have initial potential and determination and also has the unique political behavior at least in the area. This "self sufficiency" is a dream at best and a trap at worst. Military defense industry is a very fast evolving field. It is a constant competition as to who will make the newer better tech that will make yesterdays technology obsolete. So a country like Turkey with a GDP under 1 trillion has to compete with defense R&D centers that have a budget more than Turkey's whole GDP. With the current technology and access to foreign technology, Turkey can "copy" Korean, US , German, Spanish and Chinese weapons. However, while Turkey is copying old technologies the competitors are spending billions to develop weapons that will dominate in 15 years from now. Turkey has no resources to compete so they are spread thin financing the similar incompetent "insiders' as those who build the buildings that became the grave for 60K people. Unfortunately for them most Turks are naïve and believe their country is a superpower. In the next 3 months landing will be hard so brace yourselves.

It's wishful thinking to presume that Turkey will become self-sufficient in defense production anytime soon. There have been some bright spots like drones, but overall Turkey has been lagging in defense technology compared to the likes of the US, China, and Russia.
US and Russia have more than hundred years of experience developing military hardware. China is like Türkiye both have sky-rocketed with the exception of China being ahead of Türkiye especially in space and nuclear. With Türkiye it is limited financially, but that is looking bright for the Turks especially in natural resources in particular Borax,Torium, Petrol and gas.
Not lacking but already busy with current prototypes. After all serial production will move forward. Just TAI adding monthly 100 engineers. Capacity will increase with human power.
