Ben - almost all of your acceleration tests were on a curve. That's going to eat into your acceleration, because instead of putting 100% of the tire's traction budget towards making you go faster, some of that budget had to be spent to change your direction, and the amount necessary to turn increases as you accelerate. There's a reason why quarter mile strips are not on corners.

Steven Allen congrats on the Great car. I would probably still not recommend beyond get the car still. We will see a 400 mile range S this year, and even a plaid, that will be super powerful. That doesn’t make the Raven worse, but it makes it worth less (not worthless). I had the issue when getting the 100D late in 2018, and losing 50k in value within 4 months.

I have the long range 2020 Raven S (non-performance). I don’t think it’s worth the price, non-performance or performance. I bought it fully knowing it (purely because it’s been my dream car and I simply wanted it). You get a LOT more bang for your buck in the model 3. And I would’ve bought the model 3 if it looked more aggressive on the exterior.

"Overall car winner for past 70 years" that's a huge statement and many, especially car enthusiasts, would be very upset with that. The thing is, I completely agree. Put it like this: an NY Times article argued that Steph Curry was the N.B.A. Player of the Decade (not Lebron) this is because Steph literally changed the entire game. From NBA to grade school kids at the rec center. Tesla, specifically the model S, changed the automotive industry. Now EVERYONE is trying to make a good electric car, especially as we move towards renewable energy. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk

RU-vid is now too many commercials. Could pay youtube netflix cost for their ads. But, that doesn’t stop: embeded ads, sponsors, patreon, merch commercials. RU-vid was for a quick entertainment fix. Now it’s riddled with ads. Even the elevated quality of creators hard work isn’t going to be enough to save this platform. Creators deserve to be able to make some money. There is value there. But, I’m being repelled from it with all the ads. For a quick fix of entertainment...I don’t want to spend time watching ads. It’s like back in the day when we would pay for a newspaper or magazine and be full of ads. Paying for ads! RU-vid is ripe for going the way of newspapers and magazines. I don’t think RU-vid can save itself. So, a replacement from someone else is going to be needed.

Just frustrated to see the neglect towards the S. No significant changes. Tech is behind the 3. Battery tech is old. I think the S overall is a gorgeous car, and I would have been perfectly happy with the standard S model. The styling is beautiful, mainly the front end style, the wheels, and such. And of course the acceleration should be noted as well. However the additional cost of the higher performance edition is far out of my budget, It wouldn’t be a good choice for me personally. My logic is along these lines. Most pundits say Tesla is a technology (or energy/technology) company rather than just a car company. The current Models S and X are using a minimum of 3 year old power train technology and the same company is selling newer technology in the Model 3. For some, this is acceptable at the right price. For others, its the equivalent of buying a 42 inch plasma flat screen instead of the newer 65 inch OLED. How much of a discount does it take to knowingly buy an obsolete piece of technology? People will have their own personal answers.
@arleneallen8809
@arleneallen8809 4 года назад
@@xxZerosumxx Not enough. Motors have slightly increased efficiency. BMS design, bus design, and battery technology are critical and far more important. 250 kW V3's are out there now. Model S and X get close to zero benefit. Tesla's edge (or moat) is the SC network. Why are the other EV sales completely in the tank? I would argue it is pointless to buy a 250 mile Bolt (or whatever) if it is great good luck to find an available fast charger in the direction you are traveling. I'm guessing the buying public is smarter than the OEMs would like to believe, and all of these other EVs just become local drivers. I-Pace is a wonderful car. I've driven it. Wouldn't buy it though since I couldn't do reasonable inter-city travel with it. Same with E-Tron. Why buy a big battery with the attendant price when a little battery for local travel is good enough? I see Souls, Hyundais, Leafs and others a lot, and those people likely made their decision based on their personal driving requirements. The smallest Model 3? Price-wise is a good decision, although it doesn't carry much. CUVs are what people seem to want for their load carrying capabilities. I'm guessing that the Model Y will sell like beer right after Prohibition as soon as the less expensive models are released.

I love my Model S. But battery capacity and range are oversold. Note that the range was only 69% of the "rated", advertised range. 235 miles instead of 330 miles is significantly less. While you may be able to do somewhat better, you may not. At 6 months my car showed a full charge range of brand new. But in fact had a 14% loss in battery capacity (and 30% less range) and Tesla said all was "normal". So factor that in as well. If you are buying a used Tesla, the full charge rated range may conceal rather than reveal battery degradation.

And if you want range and don't need to go 0-60 in less than 3 seconds you can get a non-performance Model S long range and go 0-60 in 3.7 seconds and save about $20k and get about 373 rated miles of range.

To me the best buy is the Model S Long Range. Think about it: a fair bit more range, considerably less money, not the quickest car in the world - but still a very fast car by almost any measure. As someone who is not planning to take my car to the drag strip, and doesn't care *that* much about sheer bragging rights, the Long Range seems like a winner.

Thank you for reporting the real numbers on a Tesla. What is the real range, charge time, and cost per month? These are things consumers need to know for a fact, and hype is very counterproductive for Tesla's sustainability over the long term. And when you say a V3 charger network does NOT really exist yet, I find these facts very sobering! I would want to drive my Tesla from Seattle to Yellowstone. I would want to power my trailer with it. I can't wait 2 or 3 years for an oversized Cybertruck, although I enjoy the notion of having a vehicle designed to operate on the surface of Mars. I need a vehicle now, and I am tired of being lied to about "sustainable transportation".

Dragy does not exclude the 1-foot rollout. A 1 ft rollout is the standard in the U.S. for 0-60 performance specs. All U.S. publications use this unless they specify otherwise. VBOX will provide the 0-60 time excluding the 1-foot rollout.

I agree that Model S is the most beautiful Tesla. Because it was made as a handsome mix of older Jaguar XF (especially rear end ) and Maserati (pre-facelift front of Model S). Model X and Y look kinda 'swollen', while 3 is kinda generic and budget looking from the exterior. P.S. Model S is not a hatchback, its a liftback, so a sedan but with rear window being a part of liftgate. Hatchbacks are more boxy, like Golf.

Ben, I think there might be a bit of an inaccuracy in your Dragy reporting. That 2.76 time is likely including the 1' rollout. Tesla reports it's times of the Model S by excluding the first foot of rollout. In the Dragy app itself you should be able to see the 1 foot rollout time as well on the performance report at the bottom, which should be about 1 to 2 tenths lower than the time you reported - so closer to 2.4 or 2.5 and more in line with Tesla's reporting. Also I'm guessing you didn't use the hidden launch mode as you were just on a random ramp on the highway, which gives it extra power and should allow it to hit close to the 2.4 time.

The newer cars likely have a much faster computer for the infotainment system, so updates aren't always possible. In those 4 years, transistor desnity have gone down significally, and the processors are much faster. Also the amount of memory will limit it too, and that has become cheaper than before
