I own a 2015 Chevy SS. Bought it new back in the day. Currently there are 16,000 miles on the odometer. No mods have been added to the car. It has Chevy badges. There were only 12,000 of these cars produced, in years 2014 thru 2017. The car listed for $47,500 new. Currently the car carries a strong wholesale book. Last week I was offered $60,000 for the SS, I passed. The car continues to increase in value. It has become a Chevy cult legend. It seems like every day someone is complimenting the car and asking about the history. If you pull into a Chevy dealership, the car will draw a crowd. Just a great ride.

Sheeeeeesh. I gotta tell you and I am sure you already know, you have a gem!!!! I am no place to tell what to do with that car but I would hold on to it and add something new to the garage. This car is truly an investment. I may peak out someday but for now she is something special.

They were never meant to sell in quantity due to CAFE. When we were buying components for the prototype build of the clusters we were given figures to work to which turned out to be the quantity they sold.

I have a 2015, and I love this car. For an 8 year old car, it does not drive or feel like it at all. I put some miles on it also, Trying to save the miles now but its awesome. They didn't make that many of them. it should be worth some money down the road i would think.

I’m Australian …. And so pissed off that GM forced Holden to close down …. Especially when this car (which is called the Commodore SS here) finally reached world class standard. I own a 2004 SS (5.7 LS1). Holden had been building cars in Australia since 1948. Damn shame they’re gone.

I ❤ Commodore SSV, also was very unhappy when I heard they were closing their factory in Australia, It is a great car, my cousin owns one, have the chance to ride in it and the same colour, that V8 is awesome. It is a hidden gem. It's fantastic. Wish I could own one, but in my little island country not happening.

The only thing with that is so many people have rebadged them with the Holden badges that it seems like you're almost as likely to see one with Holden badges as you are to see the Chevrolet badges..

Great review! This guy definitely knows the car really well. It's one of the best reviews of the SS! Like he said, not only did the 2016-17 have the magnetic ride that can be adjusted with a mode dial, but it also changed the bi-modal exhaust note and changed the steering and accelerator settings. Three settings, Touring, Sport, and Performance. The Sport and Performance mode opens up the other two of the four exhaust tips to give it the more aggresive sound. There's also a lesser known/"secret" "Track" mode that can be accessed. This mode activates a launch setting and detunes the traction control some to allow more agressive driving and sliding around. These are things that most top sports cars probably have, but adds to what makes the SS sedan so unique and unexpected if you see one on the road... Again, great review. The guy knows this car!

Sweet vid! If you could Mic the guests that would bring the quality up a lot. Need to match your volume to his. I have an asus laptop and can barely hear your guest over my ac. It's a loud ac... lol. Get the little square rhode mics. Wireless easy to just hand one to someone or clip on them. Thanks again very cool content love this car. I own one. Love it everyday driving it. Only con people dont see is oem parts are basically impossible to replace. And if you want to do cosmetics looks for it get ready to pay a big price and a really long wait time.... Wanted a spoiler and its a 3 month wait with no update on when you will receive it.

I had an ‘08 G8 GT was one of my favorite cars maybe my fav DD of all time (& I’m currently on my 3rd Ford Raptor so that’s saying something) I did DoD delete cam swap, JBA headers, vararam intake/magnaflow cat back made like 365whp or so, I would run studded blizzaks on 18”s in the winter & the thing was actually a beast in the snow - 50/50 weight distribution, ability to turn all Nannies off, LSD & ability to start from 3rd gear from a dead stop + the blizzaks all worked well

I think dealerships are aware of the rarity and what they can get for them. Especially in this market. Big V8s are under attack by EV and those of us that are standing firm will have to pay a premium to have what we want. It sucks but it is and will be our new norm. 🤷🏽‍♂️

The g8 in aus in a VE commodore,, the chevy ss in a VF ss commodore, and the caprice as yous call it is a statesman over here, an the statesman is the luxury version of the vf or ve, you get something like 5 or 6 variant of each car the statesman is the very last come with all the bells and whistles, the vf is available with all ls engines, a hsv spec vf is even better to look at an drive

Im an OG owner of a black 2014, just turned 10 the other day. It's been very well taken care of, still looks and feels brand new at 47k miles. Bone stock, it's a perfect cruiser. Could it be faster? Yup. Could it be slower? Yup! I've owned a Hellcat, C8, this car is still special. It's like owning a better 96 impala SS.

@@Swole55_ Thank You! There are downsides to SS ownership. Nobody knows what it is so people are not careful around it. They're getting stolen like hellcats now, so you have to be careful where it's parked. If it's hit it might as well be totaled, certain key parts are getting hard to come by. I really just take mine out for neighborhood cruises and I have a few 50mph roads I can get on it a little, but it's pretty much retired at this point, I am glad to say! :)

Oh now that is a tough one. I guess for me, it would come down to 1st - if you truly need the AWD in your area. 2nd - how do you feel about hanging out at the gas pumps,. 3rd - how far do you plan on going with mods and you budget. Lastly is what exhaust note would you prefer most? For me both cars has fun factors that would be good with flipping a coin. In the end for me I would daily the WRX up here in the midwest, the SS would be a summer daily that would see rain but never snow. #lbm #dba

HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) took this base and built basically a street registered race car-the GTSR and the GTSR W1.... 680hp,race suspension and steering,larger wheels and brakes,much improved aero and Pirelli PZ Aero tyres off the showroom floor. Find a review of them.They will blow your mind as to what a practical,large sedan can be. GM had the basis of one of the best sleeper sedans ever,and dropped the ball. The next evolution would have been nuclear. RIP Commodore 🇦🇺 RIP Holden 🇦🇺🇦🇺

I purchased a MY2015 SSV Redline manual at the end of February. It has a 6 litre L77 engine and 65,000 km on the clock when I got it. This vehicle went into a performance shop on the Gold Coast in Australia. What I wanted was better performance without being a police magnet. a) Brembos and braided brake lines all round. b) Lowered approximately 25 mm and so the car looked 'balanced' on the road. For some reason, the stock version sits lower in the rear. c) Mild Cam upgrade d) 1" 3/4 ceramic coated headers / 100 cell cats / full 2.5 inch stainless steel Manta system / 4 new O2 sensors e) Ported and Polished heads. f) New lifters / buckets / DOD delete etc. g) OTR / Mafless tune h) Continental Max Contacts MC6 (staggered) Dyno readings were 317 RWKW @ 208 Kph and 644 nm Torque @178 Kph The total cost was Australian 70k on the road. I also own a 2008 VE SS manual with an L98 engine that I purchased in 2010 with 40,000 km on the clock. It is stock except for being lowered 35 mm. It has done a lot of low altitude flying including across Australia via the Nullarbor Plain and given me very little trouble. That VE now has 187 000 km on the clock and been fantastic to drive in regional Australia. There are a lot of people who knock the VE /VF Commodores. The trick is to keep about 50 kg to 100 kg over the rear axle. With a few tweaks they are both a bloody great car to drive.

Better to work hard and save and be able to either buy the car outright or save enough that your down payment is most of the car to save yourself from interest debt . Anything is possible.

Much prefer the look of the G8 (VE Commodore), the rear lights on these look a bit too Mazda for my liking but VE or VF, you can’t go wrong, especially the later SSs that had the LS3

That's because the SS is a base model V8. The performance version the HSV gts or gtsr had lsa and ls9 in them, different front bumper and rear with diffusers. Had better suspension setup and far bigger break and carbon fiber panels. Shame America never got it love seeing you guys rock the holdens. FYI HSV is holdens to what M series is to bmw

These were excellent cars. I went the cheap route and bought a 2014 caprice ppv for $10,000 in 2018. It shared the beautiful dash and door panels of the SS. I didn't like the extended length though. I think these cars are over priced today. I bought a brand new Camaro LT1 for the same money and got the favorable terms of a new car loan.

Wow! # great choices. If you are looking for grunt and grunge I would go with the G8. Luxury and speed CTSV. If you are looking for that slight step down...and I mean slight...from the CTSV and a step up from the G8 I STRONGLY recommend the SS!

You can't really compare a SS to a Ctsv performance wise because SS is the base model V8 and Ctsv is the top model??? Compare the Cstv to a HSV GTS, Maloo or Clubsport would be a better performance comparison.

The “refresh” they did really neutered the cars looks. I think it was 2017 right before they killed one of the best cars GM ever made. The refresh made the car look more rental car than ever. It shaved the panels damn near flat. It took away the personality of the first gen. I will always have a place in my heart for this car. Well done GM, show the world you have no soul and are owned by the powers that be. Well done

Not sure what you mean by this? I know the updated version got different wheels and a few other changes but there were definitely no changes to any body panels.

@@jcitizen Agree - there weren’t any body panel changes on the Series II other than a revised front bumper (which looked better). Maybe you’re referring to the original version of this car - the VE Commodore (Pontiac G8). That version did have more aggressive styling and the front wheel guards were more pumped.

Depends. I would recommend an Pre-Purchase Inspection (PPI) and if the car wasnt beat up and just driven..I would do it. Now a days buying a car with over 100k isnt a negative. Car are being build to do over 250K without major issue if properly maintained.

REALLY?!?! This is an amazing car. My only concern would be in the snow, not a good idea. If I was in an area like the south, I would daily an SS fosho. It is a chevy that is as solid as a Cadi. Not average. #dba #lbm

As someone whos owns one. theres a reason they werent advertised. The amount of collapsed lifters in this generation of engine is silly. Fixing it is not cheap. 12k in myself and ill maybe have it back before christmas if im lucky at this point? If a lifter collapses, it will trigger the trunnion needle bearings jail break. its just a matter of WHEN. The more you know. 2 year nightmare because i didnt know and my gf drove it to whatever back in 2021

Some would think the G8 is the gem of the two. Both the SS and the G8 have Holden roots; however, I believe the SS brings more luxury or refined feeling, a solid platform, and a power plant awaiting more power options. Now the G8 and no slouch it would be the GM to the SS's Cadillac feel. I'll pick the SS all day and twice on Sundays.

@@Swole55_ True but the G8 just seems more rare and has the look of a M series BMW. Its something about that car that hits different and has that unique rare presence that stands out among the SSs like its the white whale or white lion

@@ICNVDE Oh I strongly agree that G8 stands out more. But I think that is just it. The SS is unassuming and is compared to M Serice BMWs. Sitting in that car was like putting on noise canceling headphones and the door was still open!!! I think the SS is a much more solid car.
