Hi Joe! The S-models are built at Kiryu Kogyo, a small factory north of the main Subaru factory, about 15 km (30 minutes on local roads!) away. STI buy them and take them off the regular production line, and ship them. They can only build 2 each day there, the same place that makes the other specials such as fire, police, and cycling sponsor cars. A lot of the 'S' kit is not even available on the STI performance catalogue. I know that as I tried to upgrade a regular STI to S208 specs, with the help of my local dealer, before winning the lottery here to be eligible to buy one. The water spray cooling on the turbo-intercooler was also fitted on the S208 and S207, a 3.8 litre tank in the trunk, but it only last 5-6 minutes if used continuously. Although many think that it is just a matter of some bolt-ons to get an extra 30-35 horsepower, there are lots of suspension and body modifications in it, and it's a perfectly balanced package - that's what you get with an S-model. And don't forget, you can fit 24 hot dogs on the rear spoiler, not sure how many twinkies or egg rolls!
Dang man!! Your channels growing pretty quick...i remember back when you had the blue Hawkeye or maybe a blobeye I can't remember..but I remember you saying you wished you never let it go..then more recently you got the RA...awesome man proud for ya bro and the Mrisses
What a lovely well put together car. Seeing the Sti is $42K, with the body improvements and the 6 pot brakes and upgraded suspension, the HKS Turo and inter-cooler improvements, they all add up to over 20K. So I'd say it's well worth the 64K. Not to mention that this car will tune to 600 to match that handling and brakes.
@IMxYOURxDADDY japan has much higher business costs than USA, union leaders and government more greedy for slice of the pie from corpraton in Japan and Europe why BMW, Mercedes are expensive
Got to love not only the knowledge of Joe but how he enjoys every car he drives. So down to earth and real. Just look at that smile and grin as he drives.
I’m actually in the market for one! @raiti’s rides makes it sound sooo good! I had a 2018 STI! had to part ways with it! But absolutely loved the car! Now I’m back in the market and really thinking 💭 of getting this! Omg so freaking awesome!
Raymond S I live in NY and we love the STI, I would race any Corvette or Shelby on snow or ice. Fastest car on road in winter here. Full throttle starts and doesn’t move off the road, Mustang guys crash on dry pavement leaving car shows
Very impressive review of an amazing machine. A modern day collectible right there. Thanks also for giving this car the respect it deserves. Well done Joe!
Overpriced. For 60K you can buy a used GT350 and have 4x the track car! Love the videos Joe! Thanks for keeping us up to date on all the Twinkie stash locations!
Excellent job as always representing every vehicle. I wouldn't want to spend 65,000 on a car and get my ass kicked on the open road by a Mustang or a vette.
I own number 148/209 (white) and it's even more fun than this video even suggests! He's right- "for the right person it's a great car" and I'm that guy! Thanks for the video!
Rumor has it that 30-35 of the s209 never even made it to the states. They were given to some of the higher ups and techs at the factory. So really only about 170-175 made it here. The video was great loved the response to the way the car drives! I have a friend that was lucky enough to get 1 and he has it at about 420 hp and it is an amazing car it is a rocket ship on wheels and that car is by far the best handling car I have ever been in!!!
Joe. Another great review. I never even knew about the Subbie WRX STi S209. Now I do. That thing put a smile on your face as you drove it. Thanks for pumping out these videos.
@@PQR5CHE not sure on the specifics but some reputable tuners have reported that they will not be doing stage 2 tunes on the car any time soon until they have the knock issues figured out.
Raiti my man, I Zonked my wife the other day for her attitude. I will carry forth the Zonks and apply them where necessary. Looking forward to Zonked merch. Keep up the great work.
I learn more about your car reviews every day, Joe I watch everyday whether it's my favorite, car or not sooo much content and information thank you sir
What a special car! I LOVE this car and appreciate all the passion that went into it. Definitely WORTHY of the price! After Joe reviewed the Dream Give Away Focus RS I entered to win that. Sadly I did not win that RS but I am happy for the guy that did. I will also be entering to win this S209. Again. well done Joe and thank you for giving this car the respect it deserves.
Im calling it now. At the end of the year Raiti's Rides compares the s209 agains the 2021 limited 2.4 STI. They will both be about the same price im sure lol. Great videos BTW
You're my fav and the best car presenter on RU-vid, cause you present them so well and you're really showing the driving experience and of course you are an awesome driver. ON THROTTLE!!! Another awesome vid Joe. I enjoy all your content. God bless!
Thanks Joe for that great video. Unless you have driven one, you really can’t appreciate the amount of tuning that went into the S209. I love my S209. Night and day difference coming from a 2017 base WRX. It’s an amazing machine. 👍👍
sideways0410 I daily drive it. I think it’s definitely worth the special tuning. Plus I love the thought of it being a piece of history. I can do turn ins faster by 10-15 mph vs wrx easily. Plus the car is so responsive and slips through openings in traffic like an ice skater. But anyway. I love it.
I thought it was just me, but well spotted. If you are going to pay all that money for this car has to be perfect. That’s why I didn’t get S209 and I got a even rare one the diamond edition they only made 30 of them and I pay $60 so that’s 4 thousand dollars cheaper and hold’s more value.
@@michaelw2263 Oh, you have a brz this explains a lot. What a blind shitty no knowledge, no research purchase that was. A rwd mid engine turd with less horsepower than a toyota camry LMAO zzzZZzzZZz.
Joe Love your videos. You make me want to buy these type of cars. Thank you so much for making these video. It is the best to know when your buying a car and getting to know if you like the review of the car.
The S209 would be a popular ride out here. Throw some Blizzaks on it come winter time and with that 6 speed manual it would be a great ski car out here in the Rockies. Great review!
Just as i suspected, Subaru have just released details of the WRX S4 STI Sports # - yes pronounced Sports Sharp! A final (?) attempt to milk the model here in Japan. Usual FA20 2L DIT 300bhp + better air cleaner and exhaust. Has some of the STI performance parts suspension mods, including the S209 rear stiffener, performance muffler, maybe a little extra power (maybe/ maybe not?) , 10% gain in torque at higher revs. CVT cooler added, enhanced radiator fan, same as that mounted on the WRX S4 tS. (2016). The rest is cosmetic, including some S208 body parts. Japan only AFAIK. 500 only to be made, reservations from July, until October. Wonder if this will really be the last?
Love you Joe. I came to the sad realization, that the money for my dream car... is supposed to be for my Master's Degree. I will keep watching and supporting you, please stay safe, and thanks for doing what I can only dream of.
Joe, what about setting up the camera man/woman at certain places during your drive to add some vehicle in motion video. That way we can see inside and out perspectives on these cool cars while you narrate. Just a suggestion. Otherwise I like what I’m watching.
I think for an STI of this nature the price is justified for the performance and more importantly the engineering that went into it. Comes already tuned out the door with JDM dna. I wouldn't change anything. I think the wing was the only piece that should have been a duck bill instead.
@@RaitisRides that's crazy. I like the sti and evo but I thought they were mid 30s. What does a 64K sti provide you that say a new vette or bmw m car cant do better?
I like Subies and think they are one of the few real car enthusiasts platform left but for 63k you can get way better and I mean way better options that are way faster and somehow get better gas mileage too. I still like it though 🤣!
I had a 07 STi and they had STi on the steering and I don't know why they got rid of it and replaced it with a Subaru badge. Anyway, I then owned an Evo X and when it comes to handling, the Evo outshined it. Right out of the box, the Evo handles amazing. Add some Ohlins or JRZ like I had, another planet. I love both cars. I would say I'm more of an Evo fan and really hope Subaru does a complete refresh on the STi's. It desperately needs a new engine and needs to have at least minimum of 420hp. The new Camry's come with more, lol. I would love to see you drive an Evo X
@@ReevesTop shut your mouth when you're talking to me, lol. For real?!?! Best news ever!!!! I sold my X bro and miss the hell out of it. I hope my word comes out soon of this
Kyle no I wil not shut my mouth when I’m talking to you mate! Yeah my bud had a X FE and he wrecked it! So sad! It was making about 450bhp! Wheels, coil overs , really nice set up! I’m waiting for the new Evo! Hopefully they will update more news soon! Probably in the fall! And I really want a hatchback!
Yep!! The owner of the dealership I ordered my new Crosstrek Limited from has one. Its the 9th oldest dealership in the United States. I've got pics of it on my phone .... needless to say, its not for sale.
Subaru is a tricky company... such a small nothing company with a history that brings many well known automakers to Shame on the track ... however , price I do wish they update the tech with better ram ... overall it’s a wicked car that has both a great following... Add a aftermarket exhaust system and it’s a beast
Hi There, it would be really nice if you can get all these cars on a lift for a brief minute to show the underside mechanics ,it would bring more value to the review, regardless I still love them, keep up the good work!
Now thats the right tunning. Coudnt be better with forms and colours. I love the red and love the gold. Its just a little bit too much, but just a little.
Eggrolls...that's new 😂😂😂 I'm currently in the market for a new vehicle...either a truck or SUV. You've done both the Sierra 1500 Elevation and RAM 1500. Any chance you could review the Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude? I'm torn between these 3 vehicles mainly for utility. And always, great review! I'd love to win this just for fun!
I want one Joe, I’ve watching always in your Reviews Awesome work of knowledgeable I can’t wait 😊At least the WRX STI line with moonroof what’s the best year 2017,2018 or 2019?
