Would you take the RAV4 Hybrid over the new options like CR-V and Escape? Some of you may wonder about the gas tank issue, in my 900 mile trip with the RAV4 Hybrid last year it didn't let me fill the tank past about 3/4. I'm not sure about the status of that right now. Check out my road trip video with the RAV4 for more detail: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XU4jO_FsfCE.html *Thanks for watching and have a great day!*
@@henryhonda8408 Unfortunately the "fix" just makes the gague read as full at 3/4 full. The amount of gas in the tank hasn't changed. There is currently no fix.
I have the 2021 rav-4 hybrid XSE. I managed to get 667 miles on one tank of ethenol free gas. The bad news: When you actually fully run out of gas on these bad boys, it triggers a "hybrid system malfunction" error code, and you cannot reset yourself unless you have an OBD2 reader, even if you have backup fuel with you. Otherwise you have to get it towed to a toyota dealership. Learned that lesson the hard way. Other than that, so far this car is really perfect.
Great video Nolan. Like the head cam view - definitely helps from potential drivers' viewpoint. The RAV4 is now only a hybrid here in the UK. Great looking suv. :-)
Thank you Andrew! Glad to hear you like it...as long as I can keep steady lol. That’s no surprise..The hybrid system is great and gotta love that efficiency. Take care my friend!
I hear this.. Kinda hard to switch from Subaru AWD.. I want to like this Rav4 but the computer controlled AWD only active when needed (already having a problem) is not nearly as good..
Ok Nolan, We Get it.. You Like It! Haha. Another thing I like is it doesn’t Screen HYBRID on the outside. It looks like one of the more rugged trim levels. To think this is the same company that came out with the Prius Egg Shape so everyone would know you’re driving a HYBRID. I say, you can’t go wrong with the Hybrid as Toyota has it Perfected and Obviously it will Last 100’s of thousands of miles. Many Many years of care free driving. Be well Nolan.
Won't own another hybrid as WA state will demand $750 from me over the next ten years of hybrid ownership. They introduced a "hybrid tax" this year of $75. EVs get to pay it too on top of their $150/year "EV tax." Will buy a Honda Accord or non hybrid Corolla instead.
XSE is only good looking trim imo. The plastic cladding that is not painted on the other trims looks a lot cheaper to me. Thankfully the prime will be all painted too.
It's so funny to see the engine in this suv. No matter what trim you get, the engine looks so tiny in such a large engine bay, Lol! Would've been nice if they still offered the v-6. Love it regardless though.
Sorry but I have an XSE and it doesn't look small in the engine bay at all....v6's won't sell in any model so give it up my friend..... they are now dinosaurs.
I have a question concerning the rear defrost grid on the 2020 RAV4 Hybrids, I noticed that the grid (defrost wires) on our vehicle are not uniform in color when examining from the interior side of the window. Some of the grid is copper colored and as you look at other spots on the same wire it is darker gray in color. We looked at other RAV4 Hybrids on a dealer's lot and the rear defrost grids were all uniform in color (darker gray.) Our local dealer examined our vehicle, contacted Toyota, and they provided a new rear window. When I examined the installed window (again from the interior side of the glass) at the dealer, it still had the issue. I showed the service manager & he was embarrassed that he did not check the new window before swapping it out. They ordered another window which arrived with the same issue. They are contacting Toyota to discuss. Does anyone have this issue. You need to examine in a garage since backlight from the sun makes it hard to examine. Also a flashlight shined at an angle helps. We are concerned that this issue could lead to failure at some point & we keep our vehicles a long time (200K miles.) Our 2020 Toyota Tundra does not have this issue. Thank you to anyone replying.
Nope, not at all. I had a f 30 BMW with stop start technology. That bothered me, when the engine kicked in. With the Hybrid, the battery usually gets the vehicle moving, so when the engine kicks in, it’s much less noticeable. Hope this helps👍
Good review the foot activation for tailgate on limited is optional/ best mpg i ever got is 36 mpg with my 2020 limited hybrid/ i cant go over 20mph in ev mode which is disappointing/sport mode is like a normal car but mpgs go down
hi from Toronto Canada, hybrid 90% city driving and not every day. EV cannot have as no charging station nearby nor condo is too old - won't install. Used: make model year reason for the couple of ideas... Thanks
Rav 4 needs to get bigger break light. It's a dot on each side. It's hardly to see during the strong sunlight that may cause of accident. what's you think?
The hybrid system is very low maintenance. There’s still the typical normal gas engine oil changes etc. up front there is a price difference...can’t remember but right around $800 more when comparing an AWD gas trim vs that corresponding hybrid trim. Over the long run, there’s a chance the hybrid battery will fail or wear out before the gas engine would...so life expectancy isn’t as good but there are still a lot of old toyota hybrids 10+ years old running great. Depends how often you will drive whether it would be worth it
Do you know if they fixed the gas tank issues with the hybrids? The tank will only accept 8-9 gallons even though its advertised to be around 14. That severely hinders range, which is kinda the point of a hybrid lol
@@PrimeAutotainment We have a 2020 RAV4 Limited Hybrid just 2 months old with this problem, and no they have not come up with a fix for the gas tank only taking about 10 gallons of gas. I spoke to several dealers who all said that Toyota knows about the issue and is working on a fix. I then called the toll free number to Toyota Care and was told they would document my case, and that there have been others but they do not have the data as to how many vehicles exhibit this problem. The CSR said that there may one day be a recall (owners get notified) or maybe a technical bulletin (owners do not get notified per the CSR.) So you need to decide if a 10 gallon gas tank and the range it provides is adequate for you.
@@mikijsmauss Is your vehicle a Hybrid? The problem seems to be that with the Hybrids and the rechargeable batteries. They had to design the gas tank in order to accommodate they placement of the batteries and for some reason the gas tanks will only take about 10 gallons/37.8 liters of fuel. I have heard that there may be a difference in design/parts between the Canadian vs Japanese built vehicles and that the Japanese built Hybrids do not have this gas tank filling issue. Seems to me if that were true a quick comparison of the parts would lead to a solution. But this problem persists on 2019 & 2020 Hybrids. That is a very long time! Please let me know if your vehicle is a Hybrid. Thank you!
@@mikijsmauss All the Rav4s have the problem. It's an issue with the gas tank design and impacts all models. It's the design of the gas tank, not faulty parts.
Good point. I forgot about it in the short time I had this one...but last year I got to take one for a week and a road trip and had issues with ti. Wouldn’t let me fill more than about 3/4 tank. Very annoying. I haven’t heard of any fixes
How is it possible that the fuel consumption is greater on the highway (38 mpg) than in the urban regime, i.e. within the city (41 mpg)?! I think it should be the other way around!
@@Cicolino68 hybrids typically have better city efficiency because they benefit from braking, coasting, and more opportunities for the gas engine to shut off. So every time you brake or coast, it helps recharge the battery thus giving it better efficiency in the city 👍
The link to the video is kinda buried in with some others, my bad! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jzIG0E-ARYc.html Keep in mind despite my dislikes, I like the RAV4 quite a bit and they’re all minor dislikes
Being a new XSE hybrid owner I can guarantee there are way more likes then dislikes and I'm comparing it to my dearly loved Insight hybrid I traded for it. Only bad thing I can think of is my Insight had more hybrid figures available in the A and B trip meter for mpg figures which is disappointing but I can live with it.
Sales pitch my ass lol. I don’t sell anything. Most of the material is objective and actual features or details. Some subjective. So if you think it’s a sales pitch then that reflects in your own perception of the vehicle. After going through exterior/cargo/seats/interior features/engine/test drive...I talk about whether it’s possibly the best hybrid
GamedOut Gamer 13:59 - this isn’t a comparison. If it was I would have added those others in the title. I’ve driven the others that this competes with and this is the most impressive all around and I say so. What you need to search for is a video where all of them are shown side by side. Nothing clickbait here...but you can find that on plenty of channels.
@@PrimeAutotainment Enjoyed the video, a lot! But I agree, "still the best?" implies a comparison. Was expecting some verbal comparisons to other similar models, not just a rundown of features. BTW, IMO, one of the coolest features of the XSE with its power liftgate is that you can set the max height by tapping the open/close gate button as it's moving.
@@yogapants_teacher You can only put in 10 gallons of gas into the 14.5 gallon gas tank which cuts the range by 150 to 170 miles. Two years later Toyota hasn't implemented a fix. They have recently acknowledged the problem and said they are rolling out a fix. Better wait for next year's model.
@@markanders250 relax folks.... I bought a new XSE hybrid a month ago and the tank issue has been fixed. When I fill up it's past the full mark like other vehicles I've ever owned over the last 4 decades. I'm in Canada so not sure if the same fix has been applied in the USA. I can drive 500 miles (800km) and still have 1/4 tankful left.
Me and my wife have this car and a rav4 hybrid both 2020 and the rav sucks assssssss compared to the chevy and we drove both till 70k+ now (we are field engineers so we drive all the time). The chevy is quiter, quicker, bigger, softer, More comfortable, the awd is miles better in snow. The rav always got stuck in our driveway. The Equinox I would turn off the traction control and im out in no quick. Not issues with the chevy other than needing to rest the chevy infotainment from time to time which is an issue I have with the toyota too. Had issues with the rav gas tank barley taking fuel, weird clicks from the pedals and around the car
80,000 miles nothing. My last car I kept for 138,000 miles. By that calculation I could have saved 40% over the life of the vehicle. This is a Toyota so I’m sure it won’t be worn out so soon so I could see it at this calculation easily paying for itself and then some.
Also consider increased maintenance cost when you buy hybrid. I will prefer either completely gas or completely electric, less complexity and less maintenance cost. Don't take my word, ask your local mechanic.
