Is the 2022 VW Golf R a BETTER performance car than a Type R or WRX STI?

I personally like the 2018 plus STI with those acid-green brembo calipers. Something that Volkswagen still refuses to give us. But the white, with those Wheels, and that gloss black diffuser sort of wrapping around the top part of the quad exhausts (kind of like on the AMG a45s). I think it looks fantastic! Coming from a Mark 7 Golf R in lapis blue, and spending a fortune on cosmetic and performance mods... This car looks perfect as is IMO. Maybe a black roof wrap if the sunroof is of no importance to you. But almost 50K us out the door? A lot more than my mk7 was but you don't got to spend a penny on any mods, at least I think it's perfect as is. Does anyone know if this car or any US cars come with the akrapovic exhaust or is it just an option overseas? I know the US car has an active adjustable exhaust which wasn't mentioned in the review, I'm just wondering if the active exhaust we get is akrapovic or not, or even an option? Overall I think it looks perfect, except that heated steering wheel touch button right on the edge of the steering wheel. I've heard it many times that it gets in the way and gets turned on by accident, as well as other steering wheel icons get accidentally pushed. Such a shame being one of the nicest steering wheels out there.

He didn't even mention the active exhaust at all among a ton of other things that can be customized and adjusted, but whatever.

It’s always had a more grown up appearance with no over sized spoilers or body effects

I'm with you on the default drive mode. It is a little annoying that I have to select my custom drive mode every time I start the car but, the whole car and driving experience is way worth it. I really like my R a lot.

That’s weird the 2019 golf R doesn’t do that…

How is the infotainment? Currently have a new JLR Pivi system that is amazing but the vehicle driving is not as inspiring.

That’s valuable information thank you. I am shopping for a daily 4seat 4door with adjustable damper, but if I need to adjust the drive mode everyday this is gonna be a big drawback

Sure, it's fast in the straight line just like the Tesla Model S Plaid is fast in a straight line. I reckon the Civic Type R or WRX STI is faster on a race track.

Subaru WRX STI is my all around favorite for sure !!never have liked the Honda Civic type R it’s fantastic as a corner carver just not my thing ,but I can appreciate it for those that do ….everyone has there own cup of tea they like 👍🏻

Type R will be faster I reckon

Honda's have never been a factory 0-60 or quarter mile kind of car, they have only shined in their cornering ability, especially the Type R. Not sure why but the STI has really lost its advantage of their symmetrical AWD they were so well know for back in the 90's and 00's. But I will say they are still the king of rally racing.

2022 Sti has officially been canceled 😞 🤢🤷‍♂️

Good choice. It's the same one I plan on getting, too. I'm in my mid 30's. So the "boy racer" look of the STi and Type R don't really fit my personality/lifestyle. As great of cars as they are, The Golf just appeals to me more. Plus I live in the PNW where there are more windy mountain roads than I know what to do with, and this car just looks like it's going to be a blast to drive out here.

The Veloster N is an amazing budget sport car, I love it. But it's behind the Golf R. Comparing the two current gens. The veloster N with DSG is quick, but not as quicker as the new R.

Velositer N is a GTI competitor with FWD and it's power levels. The only two cars in the realm of the Golf R are the STI (now dead) and the Civic Type R (FWD).

@@amuroray88 and the Megane RS [Europe]. However, the Golf R with DSG would smoke all the competition in its category.
