Still have the maxima I bought new in 2016. There's not a day I don't look forward to driving it. I have 148,000 miles now. No issues (change CVT fluid every 60K miles). Still pulls like a train!
Had a 2000 Maxima SE black/black leather 5 speed manual.....loved it, only front wheel drive car I've ever owned.....traded it in on the brand new Z (6 speed) in Dec/'02, loved that even more😁
I've owned 6 Maximas. 87, 92, 98, 05 16, and now my 21 SR like this one. Just been a fan since i was a teenager. Gonna miss this car and have no idea what my next car will be since i can't afford any of my dream cars. Guess I'll hold on to this one for as long as I can
@@kjk4795 Whens the last time you've changed the fluid? With these transmissions the fluid should be changed every 30k. I'd also check motor mounts as my Maxima had that jerk as well but it was the motor mounts.
Unfortunately doing "something special" often does not include altering the main mechanicals, such as switching gearbox options. And speaking of which, Nissan should've made the gearbox change a few years back, by offering either 9AT or 6MT and with helical LSD pption. That move could've recouped some customer base......
I just bought my 2023 Maxima SR and am loving it. I had a turbo vehicle before and did not want another turbo. This fit the bill in terms of fun to drive, beautiful to look at and more affordable than the G70. I'm happy so far!
Maxima was originally a top of the line trim for the 1981 Datsun 810. For 1982, the 810 name was dropped in favor of Maxima. By the 1985 model year, the Datsun name was dropped entirely in favor of the name Nissan, which had been introduced alongside the Datsun moniker. Those of us who are old enough will recall when Datsun named most of it's models with numbers such as the B210
I grew up in my parents 1981 310. Prior to that it was called the F10 and after the Pulsar. The 810/Maxima was ahead of it’s time back then. I had a 2002 SE 6 speed manual myself. It’s a shame it’s been left to die on the vine.
Most of the times I'm completely ok with the CVT transmissions but this car needed a different option and it's a shame because this Maxima is a really nice car.
My parents had an ‘89 base Maxima and it was comfortable and fun to drive. I got my license with that car. I wish we could get a similar car today. I love how you convey how old the car is through the outdated references. One you could have thrown in was Alf. :) Great video, as always! Continued success and happiness to you and your lovely lady. Oh, I kept staring at the Armadas in the background of your presentation. My dad asked me if I wanted to get one and I told him I would like to get one but the gas consumption is murder.
Joe, I tend to agree with you regarding the overall design of the Maxima (soon to be known as the "Minima"), but the blacked-out exterior does tend to hide the quirks of this design. I actually like the monochromatic paint scheme on this particular Maxima. I would have substituted black chrome for the bright metalwork.
Well , In 2023 on June 21st I had gotten a 2018 Maxima SR in good condition. Fully Loaded , plus the SR Trim Maxima's are the ones that handles like a real champ when it comes to sportiness. Very firm and Solid in which I love
Traded my K5 for one in July. Love my Hyundai/Kias, but with them raising insurance on them across the board, even ones that aren't easily stealable, I had to look elsewhere & am in love with my '23 Maxima. Absolutely love the diamond-quilted tan leather zero gravity seats & tan leather upholstery.
@@durapoker I didn't realize I basically said it twice for the seats alone, sorry about the repetitiveness, I usually catch things like that. Fact is, I was never a leather fan until this car & I've had a ton of cars, with & without it. Including a Stinger 2.0T Premium. The name of these, on the specific trim I got, is so long already lol, my bad, I just made it even longer for no reason. Editing it now.
I have the same car but it's an 2009, the first year of the 7th gen with 165,000 miles. Nissan should've offered a manual transmission option on the 7th gen
I love the Maxima so dang much!!! It’s like one of my favorite sedans out there. I’m sad that it’s going away. Even though I’m not a huge fan of black exterior cars, that black on black looks awesome!!!! Thanks Joe for reviewing the Maxima’s last year!
The Genesis line up is just cold. I don’t see none better. The complete line up is just perfect. Rwd, great design, great engine types, interior. They knocked it out the park.
@dyllanmendoza9918 it takes petroleum to provide the electricity at charging stations. It takes petroleum to run the machinery to go through many tons of earth to produce the lithium needed for one car. Once lithium batteries are used up, they can't be renewed and end up as permanent toxic waste.
You would’ve felt a lot more power and got more use out of the engine in sport mode. I own a 2016 which is when they first introduced the facelift and it’s one of those cars where the sport mode button is actually functional and not just for higher rev shifts. This car is actually a lot of fun despite the CVT, it takes driving it daily to appreciate the vehicle in its entirety.
Yeah you’re right about that sport mode. I have a 2020 Altima 2.5 SR. I didn’t know that there was a button on the shifter for like 2 years 😅 and now I put it in sport mode Every time I drive around in the city it’s way better to drive that way 🎉
Lol I’ve been trying to say this. Why would anyone buy this car when you can spend similar money and get a car with way better performance. Not even buying for mpg why would you care about that in a sports car that’s just dumb also it max 30 in 2023. Craazy why does this car exist.
Maxima originally was the top of the line trim for the 1981 Datsun 810. For 1982, the 810 name was dropped. At this time, Datsun was beginning the changeover to the name Nissan and changing all of their models from number designations such as 210, 310, etc, to names such as Sentra, Stanza, etc, except for the 300zx.
I've had 3 Nisan Maxima's (sorta). 2 Maxima's and one I30, same drivetrain as the Maxima. CVT Transmission went out on all 3 of them. Nissan covered 2 and Screwed us (in my opinion) on the 3rd. All 3 went out around 40K-80K miles I believe. Every year Nissan will tell you, "this CVT is new and totally improved." I'll avoid CVT from Nissan 100% of the time now. We were just a couple of thousand over warranty and Nissan would do absolutely nothing about it. Avoid Nissan CVT at all cost. I think it was around $4500. The engine is excellent, but the transmission should be avoided.
I just purchased my 22 Maxima SR about a month ago, and I absolutely love it. It's a fun car to drive and has a lot of elegance to it. Sure, the CVT is not the greatest. But honestly, you get past that once you feel how the car drives and handles. It pulls really nice, especially in sport mode. It's a shame Nissan is discontinuing them, they're great cars in my opinion.
The CVT lets the vehicle accelerate fast deccelerate fast and easily brake on a nissan. Nissan CVT is high quality CVT. With CVT you can go from gear 1 to gear 6 in one second unlike the manual or automatic that has to go from 1 to 6 in steps
@loitersquadx8590 no, a cvt transmission can handle stronger engines as well. I personally don't care for them in comparison to 8 to 10 speed transmission. However, the cvt in my 2022 lexus nx f sport is amazing! I honestly can't tell the difference.
Ahhhh.....The mighty V6. A gem of an engine more rare every model year. 💎 I see why Nissan is killing the Maxima. With the Altima growing in size, at this point it pretty much fills the Maxima's shoes. So why produce a vehicle with no purpose being served, and no profits being made really? While its sad, with Nissan going through their lineup up down and all around bringing changes and updates, its even sadder that we won't see the Maxima receive these same updates as well. At least with this platform.
I have the 2023 Maxima SR...for the money, it's one of the best, sharpest, nicest riding cars out there! I hate small cars; this one has plenty of room, very comfortable (and, still fairly tight) & excellent power in "Sport Mode". Just a pleasure to drive it daily and still turn heads! However, what do I trade it in for next? I've been down the Altima road, great cars, but after driving this beast, I want more...LOL
Wish I knew about the cvt before I got My 2010 maxima as my first car. Currently it has 230k miles the cvt has been good to me. I just like how the new ones looks
Really surprised you don’t like how the Maxima looks. I think it’s the best looking Maxima of all time and it’s really held up! I had a 2016 for a full 5 years (longest I’ve ever owned any car) and the car maintained like new, only thing I ever changed was 1 battery right at the end and some oil changes.I sold it to get the TLX Type S in August of 2021. Still have and love the TLX.
@@Darylrb1983 my Favorite Maxima is the 4th gen SE and the 5.5 gen 3.5 SE in the manual…. But it’s hard to argue that the 8th gen wasn’t the best overall. The interior on the 8th gen is pretty great tbh. Only thing that held that car back was the CVT and even that was no where near as bad as the CVT in the 6th and 7th gens. The Xtronic in the Maxima and the CVT in the civics will change a lot of peoples minds about the CVT being that bad… the rubber band feel is pretty much gone from them.
Still loving this vehicle! My mom had one as her last car and I always looked forward to driving it at any opportunity! Sorry to see it going away, it’s just such a pleasure to drive!
I used to own an A32 Cefiro (JDM Maxima) still one of the best cars ive owned. The seats were like armchairs, luxury touches and it just worked. Sad to see this model disappear.
That model that came out in 1995 was a beast. At the time it was the fastest 4 door Japanese sedan in the world. That 3.0 V6 just couldn't be touched when pushed the power wàs there and handled well
I rented a versa, Sentra then Altima. Was going to rent a maxima then found out it somehow has less room than an Altima even though its exterior is bigger
I think the G70 is in a different league then the maxima and is not a fair comparison lol. I know you’re comparing them probably only because of price point.
I have had three Maxima's. The third was recently stolen and stripped for parts. I now have a 2022 Genesis G70 3.3T and love it. The ride is more comfortable and engine/transmission response is unbelievable. I loved my Maxima but I am glad I made the switch to Genesis. The only thing I miss about the Maxima is the Bose sound system. The Genesis system is good but the Bose system was great and I listen to a lot of different music genre's. The Maxima is great but the Genesis to me is a step up.
I agree. Too outdated and they fumbled the opportunity to make the final maxima special. Just doesn’t compare to the G70 imo. I’d never choose this over the Genesis. 💯⚡️⚡️⚡️
I had the 2020 rented for 2 months while waiting on my car accident to be settled and I loved the car and it felt very premium and smooth then the sound system was also good. My dislikes we’re the interior because it has a old look to it in my opinion but it works great and the transmission would randomly get very jerky and that worried me. Other than that it seemed like a great car!!
Didn’t realize this car was still alive 😮. Why is this vehicle in the conversation with the GV70? The Genesis is a luxury automaker. That center stack looks very 2004 btw. Shouldn’t this vehicle be in the conversation (at the bottom) with Camry, Accord, Arteon & Malibu? It’ll probably do well in the rental car fleet.
The Maxima never competed with Camry, Accord, Malibu because all those cars are standard 4 cylinder (v6 optional at the time) the Maxima has always been a v6 top of the line sport family sedan.
@@ItsChrisWorld Those vehicles have 4 bangers now but like you said at one time at least the Toyota and Honda had 6 bangers for quite a while. The Maxima has been marketed as a 4 door sports sedan ever since it started sliding through downtown streets in Nissan ads. I agree that it’s been a sport sedan but currently I don’t see any such pedigree that makes it outshine those other vehicles. I definitely don’t see where it’s on par with the G70 or any of the other luxury sport sedans, many of which are powered by 4 cylinder engines. It’s got a huge following though. Same for the Altima and 300 sports cars It’s awesome that there are so many choices that everyone can have something that fits their needs like a glove.
@@ItsChrisWorld That Altima is a hugely popular car with lots of support on the forums. I’ve heard nothing but praise about Nissan’s zero gravity seats. I think more automakers should strive for that kind of comfort. Congratulations on the new purchase👍.
I have a 2009 with 290 hp 3.5 v6 and cvt. Nissan has done very little to upgrade the max since then. During that time they could've put the 3.7 from the g37 in it, made it awd or at least rwd and put either the 7 speed or 9 speed automatic from the infinitis and it would've been good to go
I've always loved the Max, it will always be iconic. Would be nice if they ditched the CVT! They've kept it looking the same for years, you can get a 2020-22 and save some dough!
