@@MonsterMendezThey used too when Nissan started ditching their Manual Transmissions they went downhill, I shifted away from Nissan and moved onto to Toyota's that actually has a Manual Transmission. Heck even my 2007 Toyota Camry CE, has a 5 Speed Manual Transmission stick shift.
The Sentra isn’t the worlds most exciting vehicle in base form, but this vehicle works because Nissan understands the most important components of a sports car. You don’t need to go 0-60 in 3 seconds if the car is fun and engaging.
Sorry, but seeing as a package like this would place this car in the mid 30k to upper 30’s? Faaaar more cars more exciting than this in that segment. Hard pass on this trash.
I absolutely need one of these. Like Joe said, I had a 2000 Sentra SE-R Spec V in high school. I leaned how to drive a manual with it. LOVED that thing. I would buy this new Sentra in a heartbeat.
The first car I bought right out of high school with my own money was a 2002 Sentra SE-R Spec V; so seeing this makes me happy. Hopefully they actually build it. I'd be very interested in it about about a year or so when my oldest son starts driving.
A turbo'd Sentra with 300+hp and a 6spd manual trans sounds amazing....but what would matter just as much (if not more) is how it actually feels and performs in the real world. Not to mention what pricing will be like too. If it will be priced as high as a Civic Type R and gets crazy markups as well, I doubt it make a lot of sales.
Yes this needs to be built, I currently drive a 2017 Nissan Sentra SR Turbo midnight edition. I hope this will be an awesome improvement in power and performance!
I do think that it’s a fun car to drive, however mine has a manual transmission not the CVT automatic. It’s not super fast, it’s essentially 4 cylinder Altima like power in a smaller Sentra package. All I can say is thoroughly test drive it for yourself and make a decision from there.
The Sentra SE-R Spec-Vs were pretty quick and handled well, but they were absolute garbage. A friend of mine's Spec-V threw a rod right through the block on a road trip from Texas back to Kansas. Engine failures were typical. The rest of the cars fell apart over the years due to shit build quality and terrible reliability, which is a shame. I used to be a big Nissan guy. I owned a '93 Sentra SE-R, which was SR20DE-T swapped. That car was ridiculously fun and stupid fast. I also owned a 5-Speed Maxima SE and a 240SX fastback. I always figured I'd import an R32 Skyline GT-R someday, but life took me in several different directions. I hope this new Sentra rocks. I hope it performs well and makes Nissan some money, so they can up their game and start cranking out awesome cars with solid build quality again. Cheers 🍻
I had a 2002 and 2011 Spec V and it wasn't hiccup free but it was pretty reliable for me. There was a recall on the 2002 2.5l but never had another problem except c.o.p issue. Transmission issue on 2011 (2x) but I think that was poor repair by mechanic and partial hard driving and also c.o.p issue. Old Nissan was at least top 3, but now...😐 Wish they would ditch that cvt though😔
@@Holmesson I have to respectfully disagree, engine failure was not typical for the Spec, I still have my original Spec V. The paint is in great shape and the motor is still going strong with ZERO issues, the only major repair I had to do with it in the past 20yrs was the lower control arms and that was 2 weeks ago. The only 2 things that needed to be done were reliability mods such as removing the close coupled cat and install a header, and also locktite the butterfly valves. Other than that these cars are rock solid. There are several Facebook groups that are heavily active and Jim Wolf is still producing engine build parts for the QR. It's a GREAT car that I will never get rid of. Sounds like your buddy drove his Spec like he stole it as it is VERY hard to throw a rod on a stock motor especially with the Spec's low rev limit at 6200rpm's.
@@SiCaRiI_DaGgEr Hey, that's great that you've had zero issues with yours, but Nissan had recall thousands upon thousands of Spec-V's, Altimas, and whatever else used the QR25DE due to the reasons you listed and more: the stock pre-cats getting sucked into the engine, destroying the piston rings and blowing motors due to material interference or extreme oil consumption/starvation - and the 4 butterfly valves that open by vacuum at 5k RPM which have screws that get sucked into the engine and destroy the piston rings and cylinder walls. I can't remember which occurred to my buddy's car, but a fatal mixture of one of these issues paired with spirited driving ultimately resulted in a rod going straight through his block. I remember the carnage well... I saw the pictures. That said, I'm sure there are plenty of reliable examples out there that haven't had these issues. I'm glad you can count yours among them. It sounds like you were aware of the potential engine destroying issues and addressed them accordingly. Hope it continues to give you thousands of trouble-free miles. Cheers!
Nissan, bring the Sentra NISMO to production. Many would buy it in a heartbeat, specially those that had a SE R SpecV back in the day. Great daily driver with fuel economy but enough power to have fun I and not break the gas bank 😅
Glad to see Nissan changing back to how it used to be. I kinda wish they will change the the body of the car, but can't complain that Nissan actually FINALLY producing something interesting to bring back the old Nissan fans. It really got my attention. I'm happy with manual gear box. Thanks to Nissan for listening to your fans. Quality and Performance.
I would definitely purchase this. I love my 22 Nissan Sentra SR but the only negative feedback I give is that it is not fun to drive. With a NISMO version I would look forward to driving & having over 300HP would easily make this one of the best cars to get. I know that the 24 version has a new facelift but I personally prefer the 20-23 look so hopefully it stays looking as you demonstrated it!
Same here with everything you said! I have a 21 SR, is perfect except is not fun to drive. Waaay to slow. I’ll trade mine in for the Nismo in a heartbeat.
@@loitersquadXThis is most likely faster but I’ll bet Nissan will detune it. It will either be a 300hp Type R fighter or a 220 hp Civic Si fighter. Either way a 2 liter turbo is a good thing.
My gf has a Sentra and I was very impressed with all the sporty parts of it. D shaped steering wheel, optional manual available(in Japan). I always wondered why they didn’t have a performance model
As an owner of a very low mileage 2017 Sentra Nismo, I'd love to see this produced. B17 was a bit of an old platform and everything I've read about the B18 has been positive except for lack of power and the soul-sucking cvt. Just give it enough power this time. Upgrades that made it into the Juke RS never made it to the Sentra Nismo. Had it had the power/tune of the Juke RS it would have been a true Civic Si competitor.
I'm excited to see Nissan finally producing a performance version of the Sentra. I hope this thing has at least 300 hp. This generation Sentra looks better than any Sentra before it, 😮and it looks better than any other compact sedan out now. It deserves a performance variant.
I've owned several B13 SE-Rs and B13 NX2000. This car gets a thumbs up. I hope there is a factory SE-R or Nismo for this gen. It is very good looking and has the independent rear suspension again. I've been telling friends and coworkers that Nissan needs to drop the Juke 1.6T or the 1.8T from the Alpine A110 into a Sentra and make a B18 SE-R/Nismo. Oh technically the car should be a DDT. DET would go with a port injection engine.
They have better turbos than the Jukes 1.6 and besides they used the 1.6 on the 2016 model of the Sentra Nismo it only pumped out about 188 horsepower.I thought they were gonna slap the 2.0 VC turbo from the Altima/Q50 or at least the 1.5 VC turbo from the Rogue which gets around 201 horsepower. The 2.0 from the Altima/q50 would definitely be able to get to 300 horsepower easily. I got a tune on my Altima 2.0 it gets around 305 horsepower and about 328 lbs of torque. It would of been really fun on the Sentra with a manual.
This car is more important than the Nissan Z. Please Nissan please make this car. This is the best looking Sentra in a long time and it handles extremely well in base form
@@RaitisRides it is, very!!! It's not a deal breaker for me, but it's pretty damn close. There's places I know & have used, for custom sunroof installs, as I had done on my K5 a couple years ago, but I'd rather not, because of the time & distance, not that anything particularly happened & it was very affordable nonetheless, however I'd much rather it with it & it has more of a warranty & piece of mind with it as well.
Hey Nissan, YOU CAN DO IT! Make this dang car already! You guys made kick A$$ cars in the 90's and 2000's. We as a general public need to and demand to see you make awesome "manual" transmission vehicles again. I will trade in my 2022 Honda Civic Si Sedan for one of these little rocket's. Come on Nissan, MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!
Absolutely. I would definitely get this in a heartbeat. Nissan has always been the underdogs. They always let the competition show off and bam here they come out with a dope setup
ONCE UPON A TIME!!!! And that's it. The Sentra b13 SE-R changed my love from planes to cars..... Sadly they don't produce anything that's fun and affordable anymore. It takes more than just slapping on a turbocharger, suspension and brakes to make a fun good fwd sports car these days....anyone can do that in their garage.
I'm waiting for this. I love the design of the Sentra, just really under power and CVT is bad. This just hits all my check list. Dear NISSAN, Please please pretty please make this happen.
This is the first time I’ve seen where you sound and look tired Joe. Surprised it doesn’t happen more often because you’re constantly hustling to provide all new content all the time. Appreciate your stuff my man. It’s ok to catch up on some rest sometimes though lol.
You are much younger than me Joe and going back to the days when Nissan was known as Datsun. Friend of mine had a Datsun 510 sedan that was marketed as a sporty sedan that had a manual transmission. This was in the early 1970s and the car was fun to drive for what it was. Of course with today's technology much more is possible like this Sentra. Thank you for shining a light on these special vehicles.
I just purchased a Nissan Sentra SV August 2023. I love Nissan and is the only brand I buy!! I love the CVT how it shifts so smooth. My 23 Sentra is rosewood, with the black and beige interior, heated front seats and steering wheel! This is my 4th brand new Sentra! I never had transmission problems because I got it flushed every 30,000 miles. I got regular tune ups and oil changes. My one Sentra had 240,000 on it when I traded it in! I am a big Nissan fan boy!! I wish I could afford the Maxima!!
🚙👍🏼😀The first new car I bought was when I graduated high school in 2004! It was a 2004 Nissan Sentra spec v!! I put an AEM cold air intake, Greddy Evo 2 exhaust on lowering springs!! With a 50 shot of nitrous! It actually was pretty quick! I used the nitrous a good bit and it took it just fine!! Back then my buddies and I used to have so much fun and drive the crap out of our cars!! I currently own a 2023 Civic Type R FL5! Between 2004 and now I owned 4 different new Civic Si’s over three generations of Si’s! I traded my 2019 FK8 type r for my current FL5! What a blast it has been over the last 20 years! I have always had a thing for sport compact cars that are also practical!! I say Nissan should do it!! I would love to see this in production!! Keep up tue phenomenal content Joe been watching for several years!!! 😀👍🏼🚙
The brakes, the seats, 6 speed manual. Come on now, this thing is seriously cool. I hope it comes with an LSD and has atleast 240hp to compete with the civic Si. Overall I think they did a good job on this, current Sentra is also not a bad looking car.
I agree with everything, but the Civic Si only has 200 hp. Still, would love to see this thing at 240 hp with an upgrade path to compete with Elantra N models.
If the back seat is roomy like the new Civic. And if there's room for 3 back there. Making it a 5 seater car, that would be awesome. I hate how Honda/Acura cut the middle back seat in the Type R and Type S.
This is what Nissan needs and I would JUMP on it the day it's released. I owned an '92 SER boy do I regret selling it as well as the 200sx SER. I currently own an '02 Spec V (hence my name) in very good condition with low mileage 64k that I will never sell! If Nissan releases a Nismo Sentra close to this package they def will have my money. This segment is still alive and Nissan would do great in it 6spd w/ turbo 2.0 around 300hp would be great and would sell like crazy. Love the review and great as always Joe!!
no worries Nissan didn't lose their way, they simply focused UP MARKET as shown by the GTR and the Z in the background, and both have been runaway successes. yeah, just got back from the 2023 World Cup Finals at MIR and you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a GTR (or something RB26 powered) even a few of the super famous ones spent the 4 days there trying to get into the Finals (ie, Kimbo and Alpha Racing). as if to make point, John Odom of No Prep Kings was there again with his Pro-Mod GTR, although that's just a body, that speaks to the crossover notoriety Nissan's achieved in the traditional drag racing world of 'Murican V8's.
100 percent interested. I own an FK8 now and will not overpay for an Fl5 or Integra Type S. So 100 percent going with a different manufacturer for my next car. This looks like a really fun and economical option. More importantly it has a manual transmission which is a necessity personally when buying a sports/sporty car. Sports cars should never be automatic
I’m excited to finally see NISSAN getting back to its roots. Not everyone can afford a GTR or an Infiniti. Too much attention has been given to these areas while the rest of NISSAN’s lineup has become irrelevant. It’s time for NISSAN to retake its place in the car industry! Ahead of everyone else!
I believe the Hyundai Elantra N would be the chief competitor to this vehicle if produced. If Nissan can offer this vehicle in a bare bones spec for under $35k, they’ll be ready to compete.
Nissan will make some happy customers should this NISMO Sentra go into production, even an SE-R along with the Spec V package will be great. The obstacle with that is the price plus dealer markups. Nissan please bring back the excitement of the past to the brand. Thanks Joe and Steven for getting early access!👍👍
As someone who was forced to convert his 7th generation Maxima from cvt to 6spd manual, I definitely find it cool that @Nissan finally did something remotely exciting by going with a manual trans! Btw, Is that thing rocking a variation of the legendary SR20?
My first two cars were 240sx's, so always had the soft spot for Nissan. Was never a fan of the styling on the previous gen Sentra's. THIS Nismo street version I would get. Make it a hatch!😁
NISSAN PLEASE BRING BACK THE SENTRA HOW IT DESERVES! Manual, turbo. Monster in a compact form. You guys can smash the competition. Bring your passion back to the street!!!!!
If this hits production it’ll initiate quite an exciting time (and hopefully responses from competitor brands). Praying this thing isn’t another $45k + markup situation
