I test drove both Arteon and A220 . You cannot beat A220 interior and the technology. Lot of difference between Arteon and A220. Currently this is the best small Compaq sedan in the market. Great review...

I dream sometimes about having a Mercedes, but when I can get a Honda Accord or any other Japanese sedan for half the price and costing a fraction of what a Mercedes costs in the long run, I wake up really really fast , and my Mercedes dream gets totally destroyed.

I find it hard to spend or even lease a MB with 180+ hp. The tech is dope AF tho!

Very clever business strategy by MB. They created the S class (similar kind) interior in there A series. Voice recognition is superb in this A series ( Hey Mercedes open my sunroof and there you go). Also when it comes to safety, MB are on it. Ambient light is mind boggling. None of the competitor has (Nor Audi or BMW). If you look at Audi A3 interior are rubbish, jetta same old school design. So at entry level this is the best German Sedan in the market. THANKS JOE .....

Never buy the 1st year of a new model car, wait until all the gremlins and production issues are revealed and corrected. 😉

Raiti's Rides, I came across your YT page and I just subscribed to your YT page and I like that you go into detail about the car you are reviewing. The A220 is a car that I would be interested in. I am glad you talked about the rear visibility. That was a huge problem for me in the current CLA. You talked about sun glare on the screens. You should have opened up the sunroof to see how much glare you get off the screens with it open. As for it closed, you said you get some sun glare. I don't know why Mercedes did it like this. It is the same type of screen on the GLE and I believe the new G Wagon. An overhang over the screens would have helped block some if not all of the sunlight from covering up the screens. That is something I am eager to try. I am surprised you did not Zonk the manual adjusting steering wheel. That is a problem for me. I also also surprised you didn't Zonk them for the fake engine noise that is piped in through the speakers.

This is a nice looking car minus the DCT Transmission. Great review Joe

Many interesting comments on the shoddy reliability of German cars. Looks like people are finally starting to catch on to the Germans nonsense. Funny thing is, German cars feel as if they would last forever like old Benz’s used to. They used to be made like tanks. The technology in this car all looks great but $43K to get into this “entry level “ car is just way to rich for my blood. Imagine what you could buy on the CPO market for $30-$35K!! This is supposed to be Mercedes millennial car correct? That young person better have one hell of a job coming out of grad school. And I hope their rich parents paid for school or else they can just take this $43K and add it to their six figure school bill debt...🤢

Another great video. I use to believe Daimler Mercedes-Benz was the top of the line standard for design. Lately their vehicles have been rather bland compared to the late 90s/ early 2000s models in my opinion. I'll never forget their greatest exterior designs of those eras.

That gauge/infotainment screen is insane. I hope soon that'll be available in every entry level vehicle

you know, it's great that Mercedes has figured out that a car doesn't have to get bigger to make the interior more spacey, or rather...adequate for the size of the car. however, when you look at brands like Skoda, and its Superb, you would see that they offer as much interior and even MORE boot space than the S-class while being around 40cm shorter. value for money is at an all time low at Mercedes, if you ask me. you can buy a BAREBONES compact a-class, with the smallest engine, for more than 30 grand or a full trim Superb with the biggest engine at around the same price tag.

It won't be a Bargain in a year!! and 10 years it will cost you as much as S560 in repairs !!

The dct on normal models is not meant to be super quick. It's meant to be smooth and act more like a normal auto. A normal auto is too big for a front wheel drive and they use dct because it's compact. Obviously the amg versions will have quicker shifts. You don't get the point.

I dont get why theres no aftermarket for this car. Theres no exhausts or anything for it, might stop me from getting. Also idk why it has such low power, why couldnt they at least match the Audi A3 ENTRY of 220 hp?

the reason I think Mercedes is instituting all the latest and greatest technology into their entry level cars is due to the fact that younger generation prefer the convience and the "cool" factor that comes with technolgy and the things it can do. I feel that people who are buying the S-Class want something that is refined, yet elegant, and don't want to be overwhelmed with capability. I think Mercedes is doing the right here. Also, while this is clearly a nice car, quality isn't the main priority. I think this car would have been better if it was a coupe. Considering that this car is tailored to the younger generation, we typically don't have families and we don't need to haul things so this car in my opinion should have been a coupe.

For some odd reason from certain angles it reminds me of the Dodge Dart 🤔. Also I’m not really sure the point of this, yes base is cheap but loaded it’s not worth it.

I owned a 2014 A200 with same 2.0L Turbo charged engine. I agree with safety and design options of Mercedes is unmatched. However the power train was a huge let down and DCT back then had a mind of its own especially in urban settings I got either hesitancy on launching or the car over revving and I have driven DCTs successfully before. They may have improved it. Till then I believe the Golf R and it’s Skoda equivalent the superb 206 TSI is superior to Mercedes in this segment.

$43k for 188 HP holy s$%t!. Hard pass from this guy. This car is tiny. Rear seats are decoration only. This is a 2 door masquerading as a 4 door. The saving grace of this car is the interior and tech. Who knows maybe this might be enough to distract young buyers but for most well-informed car folks it wont. This car is a total Zonk! When I saw this in the dealership about a month ago, I didn’t like the look of the side of the vehicle. The doors with that added skirt made the doors look too long and gave it a fat, bloated look.

Take that interior and put it on the S class. I told a salesman that and he agreed. Also that front grill bc I don't like hood ornaments. He told me that most ppl my age don't drive S classes and the older generation likes buttons. I see his point but the entry level interior is better.

Fake engine sounds pupped through the audio system, even for a Mercedes that is just cheesy and cheap, yeah I get it, it's a small engine and primarily front wheel drive, and with fake exhaust cut outs, even at entry level they could have done a bit better here.

6:04 *EU Emission Regulations regarding the 'fake' exhausts to comply with EU Directive 6 compliance, and a great shame that in the US you do not have the 'HatchBack' as is offered in the UK & EU. I voted (Dortmund December 2016) to retain genuine exhausts as on W245/W246 Models but lost out sadly. ECO Mode 'freewheels' the car and can potentially save many miles per gallon. However at **21:15** begins to sound much like my son (Born 1978) that never is enough - for F'K sake what do you want I helped design this fabulous car for Millenniums and others too*
