But does it have an autopilot system and a charging network that's comparable to Tesla? That's the problem...I don't care how much cheaper it is, doesn't do you any good when the charging network is next to none.
Come talk to me once you find a car with door panel pockets big enough to fit a whole rack of ribs, THEN I'll be impressed -_- I hate when I have to cut my rack of BBQ ribs in half to slide it into 2 separate door pockets.
@@amishparadise1924 huh, I test drove a 22 Premier EUV and thought the interior was plenty nice. I'm coming from a 19' Volt and we also own a 2020 Sonata. The EUV was comparable in quality to both. Nothing about it screams "cheap."
@@amishparadise1924 There’s nothing cheap about the interior WITHIN ITS CLASS/SEGMENT. There are a few “special” people that don’t get the concept of price segments. Your argument is rubbish, because Chevy (GM) has a top of the line Chevy Tahoe with full appointments and then entry level EVs like this car that are focused on delivering the tech at a reasonable price. Compared to the Leaf & ID4 (competition); this car has a nicer interior.
I gotta say that this little Bolt seems to be an interesting option for people who can use an EV, which is about 95% of the people. The range is OK, considering most people don't drive more than 50 miles per day on average, which totals around 18k miles per year (more than the average of 13500 advanced by the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration) Every few days you gotta check that battery and charge it at home when is around 15-20%. I own an EV and at first I was a little scared that I will end up in a faraway place with no means to charge the car to get back home. Now I realize that I don't drive anyway too far to get in that situation. Once you cured your "range anxiety" you realize that you get (with a little more pay upfront) a very dependable vehicle, with very little maintenance to do, and very cheap to recharge. I calculated that I now pay 10$ per month more to the electrical bill compared to before, and honestly, I don't keep my car in the driveway too much. I put on it more than 6000 miles in 6 months and I would have put more but now I started working from home.
Sorry any e car that does less then 150 miles a day will not work for me. Its 30 miles just to get into the city. 120 miles round trip for work. If what he says is true 110 miles on the freeway I can get to work but cant get back home with out stopping to charge for 30-45 min O on that note it would be much longer because fast charging kills the battery and so does 100% charging. Yes I need to move, but even still a road trip with a e car where I live to TX where my family is. Is NOT possible because there are NO charging stations in range of each other to get there. Its gas or hybrid power for me.
@@bt-xv1fy So you fall into the 5% of "other people". Does not invalidate the use for the other 95%. Personally I cannot park a large truck at my house. Does not mean I go on every large truck video and comment it will not work for me.
We got our Bolt in 2020 when they had them for 14k less than msrp. Couldn't pass up that deal to get an EV. It's definitely fun to drive. We drive all over town no issues with range, we just charge at night. Esthetically though I'm digging the 2022 body redesign over ours
I have a Volt. BEST CAR I"VE EVER OWNED. GM should put that technology in the Bolt and have a 200+ range car WITH a generator back up. WOuld be perfect
I think he’s not a fan of Tesla’s. He doesn’t review many of them and doesn’t seem to give it great reviews. I don’t recall him reviewing the Performance Model 3 or the Model S. Have yet seen Model Y and it’s been out over a year now.
The Bolt EV and EUV are both based on the Buick Velite 7 (which is only available in China). The Velite 7 slightly looks like the Buick Encore GX, but in an electrified version.
Joe you are killing it this week. I was waiting for the Kona N-Line and this Chevy review and you delivered. Awesome job. I think the EUV is damn near exactly what I want from an EV: I dig the styling, range is decent, and price is good (still outside my personal range but I know prices will keep going down)
I was looking to do the same. Was at the auto show in Chicago really liking the electric Kona but... you can't get them in the midwest. Was disappointed the Chevy did not have the EUV at the show but may really consider because of your review and I could get one. Thanks
I am glad many manufacturers are taking a stab the EV market, but they are not doing as well as Tesla for the sole reason of not having a charging network. Here in California, there are many Tesla superchargers and it genuinely makes sense to own a Tesla. The only real way the manufacturers can compete is if they develop a charging network of their own.
@@smakersify Why in the world would they do that? They are successful because of this model. They receive a significant profit from the chargers and from costumers of their vehicles because of their infrastructure. If they do that, which i'm certain they won’t, they are digging their own grave. In conclusion, quit hoping of this future and just get yourself a Tesla as opposed to other EVs.
@@fluffyres6107 I got a Tesla my self, i think it will profit them a lot as other EV will be buying electricity from their chargers, it a news I read, we'll see what happens.
@@fluffyres6107 because Tesla can make tons of money off their supercharger network. As the other charging networks expand, a good charging network won't be enough to make up for the fact that their cars are super pricey, ugly, and prone to build quality issues.
Affordable EV! Finally, it is happening! The Twinkie box area is actually perfect for purses... a piece of functionality that has been ignored for decades by car markers.
Perhaps if I were married and needed a 2nd car I might buy one for driving around town. But as an old single guy I'm not ready to go all in on EV's. This one looks pretty impressive but not at $37k.
Great review. I have a 20 Bolt and it is fantastic. I know you cannot work off discounted prices but before the chip shortage across all the rebates and incentives it took nearly $12k off the price! It was such a deal it was hard to say no. It is really fun to drive, easy to drive, no issues and a great value. I agree I would like to see 300 miles of range. DCFC should have a faster charge rate too. The reason they did not change it this year is because their all new battery technology is a year or two away. Better battery density, charge rate, etc. An amazing and under rated car.
Metric conversions: Torque: 360Nm Top speed: 145kmh Range: 416km Boot space: 481l with seats up; 1613 with seats down I can’t give the mpge’s in litres per 100 kilometres.
AC button should be blue, Heat button should be red. Parking brake should be old school lever, Transmission should be simple straight up and down like old school auto. And please install battery that doesn’t BBQ the people inside and next door!
I wonder if people really wondering if a car is worth the money, cares about the little design quirks and details. I kinda doubt it but a lot of these car videos focus so much on minor design details.
When you are reviewing an EV it is really important to look at DC fast charge speed. If you use your car for road trips and need to charge this has a huge impact on how long you will be sitting waiting for that charge. This new Bolt has some fantastic upgrades from previous and is a great town car but they failed to increase the maximum dc fast charging speed (50kW in contrast to the 250kW of a Tesla or other new 2021 offerings like ionic 5 or EV6). If you like leisurely road trips this is not a problem but can be frustrating for others who prefer to take quick pit stops.
Most use is to and from work and to the grocery store. The problem is the republicans not supporting the infrastructure bill to get charging stations around the country and high speed electric rail systems and not this crap Amtrak garbage. China could help with this. High speed electric rail and you rent a electric car when you get there. You can see the problems with the airlines that is costly and use enormous amount of fuels it's insane. Other countries are doing it and it's great.
I test drove the Bolt EUV LT2 and it's a great little car. I was impressed by the ride quality compared to my 2017 Bolt EV. The range is fine (I use mine for rideshare, and Chevy underestimated the range). The major disappointment is relatively slow (55 KW) DC fast charging for people who regularly drive over 400 miles.
The range doesn't bother me. I just got a '22 Buick Encore GX and the range is about 300 miles (29MPG) and I get close to 3 weeks from a full tank (13ish gallons) since my work commute is about 5 miles round trip and that is the majority of my driving. I could go about the same amount of time on a single charge. I will definitely have to consider this the next time I am in the market for a vehicle.
Nice video! The new 2023 Chevrolet Bolt is now the cheapest EV in America! The Bolt is a quality EV with great range and offered at a great price. 🚗 ⚡️
I’m all for zonking fake vents and, as time goes by, I think designers and car makers need to leave fake grills behind on EVs. There’s no need to be beholden to old design concepts when working within a new, electrified, paradigm. Fake grills on an EV = a zonk from me 😂
Not a bad vehicle. I would opt to spend less on the Bolt ev 2lt. Bolt Euv has more leg room in rear seats but I would by a standard range Model 3 for 39990 before spending 37,000 on Bolt euv. I own a 2018 Bolt premier and a 2020 Tesla Model 3. For those people who don’t want a Tesla and want to go electric the Bolt is the best option. Only drawback is its dc fast charging rate. GM needs to improve that for the Bolt.
@@samusaran7317 agreed if you plan on traveling long distances. For around town and round trip commutes of 200 miles or less it’s not a bad car. The wife and I always travel in our Tesla. Traveling in the Bolt was like being water boarded. Lol.
Nice Bolt EUV. Dealer ruined it with pinstriping and door edge guards. Big zonk by GM for not improving the DC fast charging speeds. Still stuck at 55kW top DC charging speed.
I am in a my first EV a Nissan Leaf. I am never going back to gas powered. My lease ends in June of 2023 and I am going for the Bolt next. Great presentation Joe
My father just bought the 2022 Bolt EV (he's trading his Nissan Leaf 2015) for his retirement gift to himself. He didn't even see the car in real life yet since it's fairly rare in Quebec (Canada) at the moment. I hope he'll be happy when it comes!
I may get it. My 2021 blazer gets 300 miles on a full tank. But with gas prices, I pay $90 to fill it every other week. I’ll deal with charge times to spend $30 a month instead of $180
@@Tuxedoz No, it was generically a "General Motors." Saturn was in charge of leasing and servicing the EV-1 however. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Motors_EV1
@@wbwayne8887 ah okay. I vaguely remember reading an article about it years and years ago saying somethng about being sold at Saturn dealerships, but didn't know if it was physically branded as such. Hard to see in the pictures. Lol
260 miles is a overstatement. 260 miles is the range of the 22 EV. But the EUV is much heavier and has a range of about 230 miles. Of course range has all to do with the way you drive, features you use while driving, and the weather conditions. So yes, you can get more or less depending on how you drive.
Don't understand the grill on electric vehicles. Why don't they just bring them out to some type of cone nose or point like you see on fighter aircraft. That grill looks like it would be an air dam at 60 or 70 mph. Did you see the video on the Alfa Romeo Stelvio? That front end looks more streamlined.
The Chevy VOLT had a mini 18.4 KW battery that gave you 80 Electric miles, once the battery emptied the vehicle switched to an internal combustion 4 cylinder gasoline engine which gave you an additional 300+ miles. ( No generator Raiti) I know I have 1 2019 sitting in my garage. The Chevy BOLT is a pure electric EV rated at 259 miles per complete battery charge, however majority owners report 280+ miles per full charge using 1 pedal regeneration mode
I think you may have been mislead a bit. There are 2 Bolts out now, the regular and the EUV which is slightly larger and brand new for 2022. In the video, you mentioned that this is a refresh from last year and it is not, it is a new model. The regular Bolt did get an exterior update with a minor interior refresh.
I saw this car yesterday and I was so confused when I saw the brake lights/ turn signals were in the bumper instead of where the running lights are.. why are they doing that nonsense ? Also why is the traction control button so big 🤣🤣
@@marktuyet yea and it’s totally ridiculous how low it is Like idc if it’s LED It’s like I’m not looking that low and since most people are driving suvs!
I am on my 2nd Chevy Bolt (lease). I love it. Zero (Did I say 0?) issue! Very very reliable. I use it for EVERYTHING. commute, shopping, day trip to SF. Never worry about charging, never worry about its range. I think Chevy maybe understate its range. My 2nd Bolt (2020) is quieter and smoother than the 1st gen (2017). And one pedal drive beats many, many ICE cars at the traffic lights, easy, which is a bonus. :)
What is the average range? I live where it does snow 6 months of the year and I drive 120 miles round trip for work. Just wondering if it would make it if I run the heater and if its only 90% charged as going to 100% youtubers say it shortens the battery life?
@@bt-xv1fy we never worry about the range(270). We plug in 110v at night. Longest day trip is about 120. Daily drive 20-40. Reading Almost alway over 200 available anyway. For my use, EV with 200 is good enough, but it has 270, no complaints.
Hey Joe, I’m a fan of your car reviews, thank you in advance. I’m interested to buy a chevy EUV. Would you please make a review for Redline Trim of EUV 2023? Thx again Joe 🙏🏼
No General Misery failed with this, don't you understand they didn't change the range at all it's actually worst so no this is a fail don't let the new touch screen an technology fool you.
I'd like to know everyone's electric bill per month at home with these EVs. Almost 40K plus extra dealer fees verses a 25K gas car that does the same thing. How many years before you break even on that purchase? Just because you don't fill at a pump doesn't mean you are saving money.
It costs about $2.50 to $4.00 to fully charge a Bolt EUV at home. Depends on what your utility company charges per kwh and what time of day you charge the car.. You save money on maintenance. Also, many places let you charge for free such as public libraries and government buildings.. Your State may have grants for electric car purchases plus the State tax incentive. I'm sure you can get this car down to $30k.
@@derek89273 it's definitely not terrible, as some of the people above have different outcomes woth EV, one thing to Note is we don't live in the city, and we don't have solar/wind/water or another help with our electricity too
I'd love a car like that. It seems like the cargo area is either *that much* too small for my wheelchair (with the back seats up) or I have to have all the seats down or get a huge vehicle. Videos like this help me make informed decisions. Thanks Lori and Joe!
Projectors in the bumper is a brilliant idea!, especially for people that bump & rub everything on parking lots, after all to fix it you will have to spend 5X more money.
well Joe, after watching your review of your ZL1-1LE I have to say I believe your hoping they come out with synthetic clean burn fuel before we are all left with this ride as our only option... LOL
Very impressive. Thanks for the review. But what’s w the pinstripes from that dealer? Lol. Looks terrible w the pinstripes/door edge guards…another way to markup a price
Nice styling. All Bolts have been recalled for fire possibility. Bad batteries. Range too short. Need at least 400 miles. Way overpriced. Needs to be around $30k. The Volt was nice.
Hi Joe! Thanks for the review-- is there a Camping Mode for this EV allowing the user to sleep inside with the AC/heater on (using the battery)? I'm looking for a good roadtrip car that can also be used for camping! Thanks.
There is no such mode in this car.. All you do is just turn on the car and turn on the a/c.. Some people do this while the car is plugged in so the a/c won't drain the battery.
This car has a lot of fabulous features but as a road trip car it is limited by it's slow maximum DC fast charge speed (50 kW). If your road trips are at a leisurely pace this can be fine but you will spend alot more time waiting for charge than in many other EV's. For reference a tesla M3 charges up to 250kW, Kona and Niro 77kW. I think the new kia and hyundai models will be similar to the tesla.
All of the Tesla buzz unfairly distracts from other compelling electric options like this. By all accounts, the Bolt EUV is a well-executed package, and it looks surprisingly attractive. Joe - won’t SuperCruise be available on the Bolt?
@@fluffyres6107 Styling is just a matter of personal opinion though. Those who like Chevy now can stick with it and get a compact EV so I guess thats the winner here
i rented a bolt to drive uber, my brother drove it and went out to buy one, i was looking at the kona, but the back seat is made for kids, so this bolt is gonna be my next vehicle.. it was fun to drive in LA no issues going up the hills and mountain sides, and it takes of fast too..
I want an EV that looks cool. I feel like they all resemble just a lump. I don’t think any company has really nailed design yet besides the Model S, and even that can be improved in my opinion
@@tbuckner4905 I just don’t think EV’s should be less cool in appearance than internal combustion cars. They need to be very appealing to draw people in
