LEARN MORE - The American Dream Is Not Dead: (But Populism Could Kill It) bit.ly/35CksjB
Critics claim that a slew of obstacles - from income inequality, to stagnant wages, to right-wing populism - have killed the American Dream. Are they right? AEI's Michael Strain uses hard economic data to show that the American Dream is still reality.

this does not mention the rising cost of living 🤔

How does that make sense when talking about Dream? It doesn't matter. If it rises or falls, Dream could be dead. Even if there is no cost of living it makes zero sense. Shut the F up

Lin that is normal of High Income countries , even if they are social capitalist . A perfect example can be Nordic countries as they are the most expensive even for the high end individuals or people living in there. ;)

The American Dream is definitely dead. Working 60-80 hours a week and still can't afford a decent place to live. It's literally like living in hell.

Just from 2000 to 2022 the cumulative rate of inflation was 72.4% yet the average pay rises just 2% a year. Even if you saved every penny that twenty years it's now worth 72.4% less. To me this makes it very difficult to ever get ahead. More and more live paycheck to paycheck. As for relationships well they seem to be just a dream for most people today unfortunately.

@@iamnotgonnagiveyoumyname1373 To a great degree. US federal budget for 2020 is 4.83 trillion. Granted they blew past it, without looking back, and it is estimated to be more like 8.3 trillion. There wont be a definitive number up till the fiscal year ends, but it is somewhere around 1.5 trillion. That does not include Social Security - that is another ~1.1 trillion. Main reason is the fact that US circling down the drain all across the board. US lost almost 80% of manufacturing since 1970s(in the 70s around 8.5% of population was involved in manufacturing, today it is only ~3.6% and even that number is probably exaggerated, as now auxiliary personnel counts as well; in 1965 manufacturing accounted for ~53% of economy, today it is ~8%). Infrastructure is falling apart. Widespread corruption. Overspending. Uncontrolled printing of money. Bloat. Political and societal divide. Etc. Take your pick.

The American dream in the 4o’s: “We are moving to America for a better life. We can get a job, work hard, and have a comfortable life, and a future based on our efforts.” The American dream present time: “We are moving to America to have a better life, but we are afraid the schools are bad for our children. Corrupted Politician run the country and have a say on everything we do or say. Many cities are run down, drugs are everywhere, and the fear that going to the grocery store may be the last time I see my children makes me rethink if the American dream is real.” I think they found traces of water in Mars! hum! Something to think about.

13 people just got gunned down in the TOP Friendly grocery store in Buffalo, New York, in a hate crime. 10 of those people died, all Black/African-Americans. The shooter is an 18-year-old white teenager with ties to white supremacy. This is America 🇺🇸, the real America, so no, his comment was not a joke, even a full year later.

I like how at the end of the video he concludes it by mentioning actual problems in the American system and then brushes it off and tells everybody the “real message.” How dense do you have to be? “Work harder,” meanwhile I know people who’ve worked till their hands became useless and haven’t had any significant change in their lives due to places such as California becoming more and more difficult to sustain in.

This video is short sighted, our parents could get an entry level job or maybe a skilled job and have a family house and car easily. While the newer generation is making more, the equivalent position today is lucky to afford you an apartment and that's about it. People are pulling 60 hour weeks to only live out of their cars. The American Dream as it used to be is dead.

The American dream never existed to begin with.
@newdawnrising8110
@newdawnrising8110 12 дней назад
No it actually did exist between about 1948-1972 then it was stolen from ppl with the help of Reagan and his huge tax cuts for the wealthy that caused wages to flatten, inflation to skyrocket. He let the business owners take all the profits created by the workers. The owners stopped the traditional profit share of 1/3 to owners and investors, 1/3 to increase productivity and 1/3 to workers. With the increases to production we have seen since 1970 if wages continued to track with productivity like before then the average worker today would be making over $200k working just 3 days a week. The population has no idea how badly they have been totally ripped off and systematically impoverished.
