Is the auto show dead? NOT YET, but it definitely is changing. Automakers are investing less in auto shows and more in other consumer-facing events (think CES) but the local dealers still want you to come!
And with more floor space available, you'll find a more diverse presentation than just cars.
Watch for highlights from the 2024 Washing Auto Show including quick glimpses of:
01:33 One of my favorite classic cars
03:13 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe
04:57 2024 GMC Hummer EV
05:42 Tesla Cybertruck
07:36 My favorite color Corvette
08:46 2024 Acura ZDX EV
10:07 2024 Kia EV9

Thank you for taking us along to the Washington Auto Show. I loved seeing the dog area that Subaru constructed to help dogs find there forever homes.

In my opinion it’s sad what auto shows are becoming. I have been going for years to the NY auto show. There was three floors of cars the DUB show etc. now they have one floor with very few brands. I guess it’s because EVS because there’s not enough of a showcase or because since Covid automakers as well as other brands realize there’s more money to be made doing their own events hence why E3 died out

"does the corvette impress you?" says volumes.... well, how much does it cost to rent a/the convention center or whatever structure the event is held in? How much manpower do manufacturers and/or local dealers have to put in to the (local/national) auto show? What are the logistics involved (trucks/booths/physical cars)? All of that is not free. regardless of paid admissions, what is brought to the auto show is dribbles compared to what is on the market. If you are doing a big reveal, then maybe an auto show is worth it. Thinking on past auto shows, how many actual "newly released" cars are on display? How many lower trim cars/trucks vs higher trim cars/trucks? If the auto show is dead, they, the auto companies did it to themselves.....

I’m sorry but I’m legitimately confused by your comment. To clarify my viewpoint, the auto show isn’t dead yet. It supports the local new car dealers. But it’s not what it used to be with a fraction of the automakers and models. The DC show has never been one for reveals and I think the local crowd here knows that.
@K03sport
@K03sport 5 месяцев назад
@@Allthingsfadra...exactly. the auto show is not what it used to be. dealers and manufacturers have scaled way back because the ROI is not there or heavily leaning in their favor. I remember auto shows bring automotive product related vendors to the auto show to sell neat products to help you enjoy the drive. I haven't seen many product vendors lately as booth space costs have likely sky rocketed. Increased show costs plus the small amount of cars brought in by brands plus brands that don't show has led to the poor auto shoe experience. Winter shows and bad weather don't help either.
@Allthingsfadra
@Allthingsfadra 5 месяцев назад
@@K03sportNow that you mention it, I didn’t see any vendors either, like you mentioned. Maybe it it’s different on the public days? But I forgot that the whole 3rd floor used to be exotics and vendors. Hmmm.

The Philadelphia International Auto Show 2024 was horrible except that I meet famous people put anything else everything is all electric I didn't see no upcoming 2025 models. Out of 24 years ago I've been to the auto show I never seen her like this.

They are definitely pushing EVs. With the DC show being a public policy show, you see a big focus on alternative fuel vehicles.

@Allthingsfadra

It’s more like what brands are actually there! Here’s who’s there: Subaru, Volvo, GMC, Chevy, Toyota, Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Ford, Acura, Honda, Lexus, Polestar. Plus a few from Tesla and Lucid. Plenty of exotics and classic cars to see too.

It would be good to know that getting to and out of any auto show you wont get mugged while at it. That's the first step -- then we can focus on cars.

Admittedly, DC is one of the smaller major shows but this trend is happening in NY and LA as well. Automakers are spending their marketing dollars elsewhere. Mercedes and BMW have definitely pulled out everywhere as far as I know.
@rileypart1
@rileypart1 5 месяцев назад
At Los Angeles Auto Show, a lot of brands had pulled out from show due to consumer demand and US regulations has changed the automotive over decades. Lamborghini, Ferrari, Mercedes, BMW and Audi no longer at show just last years Porsche pulled out the show and right now everything is switch to electric.
@Allthingsfadra
@Allthingsfadra 5 месяцев назад
I think the push to electric and automakers pulling out aren’t necessarily related. Every single automaker is working on EV offerings. I think it’s an ROI thing. They get better targeted coverage from the press at private events. And for many of these luxury automakers, they probably aren’t finding their customers at an auto show.
@Michael-ur5qb
@Michael-ur5qb 5 месяцев назад
@@AllthingsfadraI disagree. I think plenty of automakers have show disdain for the general public. Look no further than Ford’s CEO and what he has said. I think its directly connected to EVs. He has said they only care about profit margin, if you want affordable buy used. Cause I guess the middle class no longer deserves affordable vehicles. They replaced the Fiesta, Focus and Ecosport with what? A Maverick you can’t get below $35k, A Mach E and Electric F150. Both are expensive. I think having an autoshow and seeing collectively how expensive everything is at which just look bad.

As small as that convention center may seem you should have seen the auto shows in the mid 80s at the old convention center. That one was a quarter of this ones size. I will say back then, Lamborghini, Ferrari and all the exotics would come. Not anymore.

@@AllthingsfadraYep I agree. They just cost too much to run the risk of having them get damaged at an auto show.

Seems the Washington auto show is smaller than the New York one. Especially the Subaru area. I also like kia's alot and I think the very latest version of the Sorento looks good. The ev9 though is overdone especially the exterior. I don't think auto shows are dead but they are scaling back. Like I think jeep is discontinuing their outdoor ride-alongs at the New York show. I'm surprised to see the Cybertruck there as Tesla doesn't usually do auto shows. Thanks for tour!
@Allthingsfadra

It’s muuuuuuuch smaller than the NY show but even the bigger shows are scaling back as auto makers pull out. Kia and Hyundai are more innovative with style even if you don’t like it. I like to see something different.
