If you're thinking about a baritone ukulele because it's easier to learn than guitar, but you like the sound of a steel-string guitar over the baritone with nylon strings, try a tenor guitar. You can tune it D,G,B,E like a baritone ukulele. It has a nice, bright sound and a narrow neck that's easy to play.

Great point, tenor guitars are great. They typically have bigger bodies than baritone ukulele, more like a guitar, but do have thin necks. There are not alot of tenor guitar makers out there but Blue Ridge makes a good one.

I'm more convinced day by day that the baritone ukulele is for me, i love the sound of guitar more than ukulele but i am better on ukulele than guitar (i have both) the 6 string is just too much to me i guess so baritone ukulele is the instrument to go

This video is one of the things that prompted me to try baritone ukulele, and I'm sold. Personally I'll take the baritone over the guilele. It's nearly as compact, easier on the fingers, and complements vocals naturally. It does force me to get creative with chord voicings sometimes; also, major 7ths, altered, and extended chords can be tricky, often to the point of shrugging and going with a substitution (almost nobody notices anyway.) I'll live with those issues because the rewards are through the roof. Oh, and did I mention how many problems it solves if you're living in a small space? I'm sold on the breed, and although there are many positive things to be said for my mahogany Mainland I'm also looking for higher-end baritone now.

I think the right first ukulele for every beginner player regardless of age and prior musical experience is the Tenor uke. It comes in standard tuning, and even the cheap ones sound/play very nice. Then after a few months of practice when you're ready for an upgrade (and this WILL happen), you'll know if you want to downsize, stay the same or go bigger.

Started on a soprano ukulele and decided that was too small then got a concert uke because I like the sound of the soprano but didn't like the size and just now picked up a baritone ukulele today because I want to play the guitar at some point and so far the transition from the standard uke tuning to guitar tuning isn't as hard as I thought it would be. In fact, a lot of the chords I play a lot are somehow easier to play on the baritone.

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get a baritone ukulele. I already have a soprano ukulele but it's pretty old doesn't really have a good sound. My dad bought it. He also owns a guitar that I've tried but I like ukulele better. I love the baritone ukulele because of the lower sound.

@mh2120
@mh2120 2 года назад
@@AtinyElring Did you end up deciding on a uke? I'm a shorter guy with small hands, and I've struggled trying to learn guitar on and off for years, never quite getting past the beginner stage of fumbling between a handful of chords. I could only ever reach two adjacent frets till I got a short-scale Mustang guitar a few years back, but still haven't make much progress. I got a baritone ukulele back in spring, and while I haven't been picking it up as much as I'd like, every time I do grab it it's a joy. Been strumming through some basic chords the past few days and it feels so comfortable to hold and sounds so warm and lovely. If you're still on the fence, I'd recommend a baritone.
@AtinyElring
@AtinyElring 2 года назад
@@mh2120 awe thanks. I’ve been still standing with my feet up on the fence looking over, looking up at the sky dreaming and forming shapes of myself playing guitar. But I’ll definitely get a baritone! I really want to play an instrument. Even though nothing is impossible, it’s a pain trying to stretch my tiny fingers when I can’t. My piano and guitar has been dusting! Thanks for the reply dude I honestly forgot I was interested in ukuleles at one point. Much love!

Thanks for that very informative video. I'm sorry, but I still can't see the point of a baritone uke. Imo it's just a failed hybrid between a ukulele and a guitar without the qualities of either. With its larger body and its strings tuned like the 4 treble strings of a guitar it has lost the typical sound quality of a ukulele while still missing the fullness of a guitar.
@gardenofroses197

For me, the best thing about the baritone is that it is as easy to play as the other ukuleles, but sounds like a guitar. It's louder, deeper, and fuller, but it's soft enough that it doesn't drown out my weak voice. It may not appeal to you but it's a perfect compromise for some people.

I started with the guitar and have now played a tenor uke for 3 months. I like the chords of the tenor, but would like to migrate to a deeper sound that the baratone would give. So, to get the best of both worlds, can you tune the baratone to GCEA?

I think it really depends on the person. I have an acoustic guitar and have been trying to learn it, but I find that because of my small hands (with very short fingers,) the guitar is definitely harder for me to play comfortably. It's an amazing instrument, and If I had larger hands, I might be able to learn to play decently well! But since I don't, I like the ukelele because I can play comfortably and have more fun without all the stress of not being able to reach all the strings on the fretboard haha

Wow, this has a gap you can drive a train through! Soprano ukulele, full-size guitar, and Baritone ukulele. No sample of tenor or concert ukulele. Kind of a shameless pitch to sell Baritone ukuleles. I am a longtime (40 years) guitar player, who in the past year has gone full-head-first into ukuleles - concerts and tenors. I love it. I presently have little interest in Baritone ukuleles (essentially, a guitar missing the bottom two strings). This ad is, frankly, a snub to everyone like me, who picked up playing ukuleles - concerts and tenors. Not a good plan. (I have purchased seven ukuleles from ULTP, so I am a fan of pretty much every ad and video . . . but definitely not of this one).
