maybe at least in my experience, if someone was running away with it and leading harsh, THE WHOLE table focuses and hinders them hard. Never had that issue since the person in last place ends up winning :) Love this game and great review
I love the IP, so it was kinda disappointing for me, that every content creator I follow has ignored this. I know it is controversial and weird, but come on. So regardless your opinion (didn't watch video yet) big thanks for that!
well I think its more so because the source material isn't for everyone. I myself don't ike the artstyle at all, nor am I a fan of the gameplay, so playing a boardgame based off of that source material isn't interesting at all for me. I can imagine thats why it has been ignored by a lot of content creators
@@WolfanTerror I love the game and art and its controversial content, but I have no interest in the board game implementation. I imagine since most people are Christian and the lore is taking a pretty big jab at it, that is probably a key factor of why it "isn't for everyone". Basically every game in existence isn't for everyone--that alone won't stop content creators, especially since talking about why it isn't for some people is easy content.
@@kyleb8117 True, but I think the fact that it is a board game adaption of an existing franchise is a factor. I have board game implementations of other IPs that I've seen no one on youtube cover at all. I just think that maybe its easier to get people watching if its a boardgame IP instead of an existing IP that people already know if they like or not, so thats why content creators shy away.
@@WolfanTerror look what happened with prison architect board game - many people plays video game, and I never heard of discussion about controversy in building prison. It basically killed board game though.
@@WolfanTerror That's a really good point. IPs are a huge detractor. I remember when I was getting into board gaming, I was very against trying Battlestar Galactica: The Board Game because I had a history of video games screwing up IPs. I'm glad I played it despite my reservations because it was an amazing game. I'm currently very excited for Rainbow Six: Siege: The Board Game because I feel it'll really be like the original IP. However, those are rare examples of IPs done right (in my eyes) and it's usually a cash grab disaster of a board/video game. (and yeah, I am paying more than I'd like to for R6S board game so I'd still call it a cash grab even though I very much want it.)
This was one of my favourite games on PC. I have played hundreds of hours on the PC version. This port to tabletop is amazing! It really captures the rogue elements and randomness of the PC game. I Kickstarted the big boi box for the upcoming requiem expansion and am extremely excited. The delivery time of 2022 cannot come soon enough! I have played exploding kittens and own munchkin with some expansion and ever since I received this game the others haven't hit the table in my play group. This has been a great hit with my magic the gathering group as almost a crossover to introduce MTG players to board games. After they play this one they are more willing to try some of my other board games. There is so much variation in this game that no two plays will ever be the same. Love it. Thanks so much for giving your thoughts on one of my favourites Quackalope! The three of you are amazing content creators in the boardgame community ! Keep it up!
I love this game, but if the cards come out right you can get really long games. I once had a game become a knock down, drag out brawl that lasted 4 hours because we pulled all the cards that let players destroy souls.
Not sure how much I value ranking/rating a game only against its peers in the genre. A discussion absolutely, but it seems like everyone rated this game about a 4 when in reality that’s not what everyone would rate it ‘normally’. Just some food for thought.
I have played Isaac board game many times, its a great light game, a bit unbalanced but that's part of the fun, getting overpowered items and destroying your opponent's. However, I would recommend it for 3 or 4 players. You could theoretically play with 6 or more players, I even played at 7 or 8, but you end up not caring about the other players turns and downtime gets too high
Nice review, as always! The game definitely isn’t for me, but I agree, it looks solid for the genre. Weird pledges though. Bath water?.. Also, I was hoping to watch you swallow those coins in the end of the video without chewing. You know, like a duck. ❤️
This game has somewhat of a cultish following and so people would actually die for that bath water from the creator. It sounds weird but it’s completely legitament.
YOU WHAT thats crazy. I've had games go past an hour and a half but thats insane. I hope you still had fun though, I imagine you did because you kept going for that long lol
@@puffcap_ yeah, it was crazy. We were having for a decent amount but the last half hour or so was rough. I'm pretty sure someone had the force reroll, no, and god card. Nobody could do anything.
I love this game but you completely skipped over the bartering and trading aspect of this game in your review and gameplay. Like if another player is about to die, you can ask for bribes to help them stay alive by using your own cards or loot. That adds a whole other dimension to the gameplay in my opinion. Love your content!
I like this IP so I've peeked at the game a few times but never really bothered much trying to figure out how it played because it didn't look interesting. I'm glad you guys made a video because I now know 100% for sure I don't want this game at all. I personally don't enjoy games like Exploding Kittens even slightly. The last board game night I went to, we played a round of that game and I tried and failed to enjoy it. (Thankfully the company was quite enjoyable.) I think I'd have to be pretty drunk to enjoy this one and if a game requires inebriation to be enjoyable, why would I ever own it? I already have games that'd be great while drunk, if that was my goal.
30mins - 1hr gamplay time? i had rounds that lastet 4-5 hours and never have finished a game in under 2 hours. how can you finish this game in 30 mins? even with 2 players you cant do that...
I honestly don't get why its competitive. I rarly get competitive games because of my game group. The Ip this is based on was never competitive. I honestly want a Co-Op Dungeon Crawl Board game for this game.
I did not enjoy this game. It kind of felt like mtg lite. I will admit I do not care for the theme and absolutely dislike the art so the gameplay was the only thing left to pull me in.
Ive had this game since the first KS and played it religiously (lol) at work. Lets be real.. the game is a balance nightmare. Theres absolutely broken things in the game, and Samson is without a doubt the strongest character by far starting with 1 extra damage on his attack (ive won on 2nd turn with him with 0 items and good dice rolls). There are treasures that are essentially 'I WIN' buttons. The game absolutely cannot be taken seriously. But it IS still fun, which says something. If you are at all bothered by balance in games, do not play this game. Its a mess lol. But a fun mess.
My personal problem isn't the lack of balance but the gameplay. Just a lot of take-that. Munchkin was fun the first time, but I realized that it was fun because I was laughing at the cards. Exploding Kittens wasn't fun ever because I had already built a hatred of Munchkin from playing it enough times. I feel like these games are just "Let's all roll dice/draw cards until someone gets the right stuff and wins." It's just not fun. Maybe if it was over quickly, it'd be more fun, but usually those games drag out because everyone beats down the current leader.
