Not having to faff about with chain maintenance, and costly replacement of chain and sprockets would probably swing me towards the BMW. For the record, I own a BMW k1200rs and I like it a LOT!
Excellent Review, I love the older bikes but this comparison was very entertaining and informative. I would be very happy with more like this, when you have the time.
Great review thanks I have both bikes and a 2017 Multistrada 1200s and a few others My go to bike is the K1300s. It’s the best bike I’ve ever owned. Not great on tight twisties but it’s a great mile muncher and so fast and stable. I’m actually going to buy a really low mileage k1300s and put it away whilst they are still reasonably priced Great review keep up the good work
Yes, by all means do any bike - every bike is interesting... It is not actually bikes but your (all you guys!) attitude and approach that makes these videos so good!
Spot on review of the K1300s. Exactly matches my impressions, as an owner. Was nice seeing how a 'Busa compares ; ) First time watching your channel and wouldn't have guessed you catered to "classic" bikes, as you seemed right in your wheelhouse, on these semi-modern cruise missiles. Hopefully you continue this trend.
Nice sensible review. That takes me back, I had a blue and silver 2001 (Y reg) from new ....... probably one of the best bikes I've ever owned. Lots of power (175 Bhp at the crank, claimed) but so easy to ride sensibly and not that bad in town, either. Traded it in, in 2008, for a ZZR1400 which was also another stunning bike with 198 Bhp (claimed) but I always thought that the Hayabusa had slightly better handling. All that power is a great talking point down the pub but, to be honest, in the seven years of ownership I never reached it's limits but still a gorgeous looking machine (IMO) More reviews like this would be welcome but I still love the old Classics, like that Commando in one of your other videos. It's worth noting that I'd only been back on bikes for 18 months (since my teens) when I bought the Hayabusa, at the tender age of 45 ....... a born again biker and still alive ......... thus far 🤔By the way, lemon drizzle cake is ok but you can't beat a chunk of homemade bread pudding. All the best Phil
Great post, keep them coming. I have a K1300S in my collection; a great bike in every sense, it replaced a Blackbird which was also fantastic, never had the opportunity to try the Hayabusa however if the opportunity arose.
I've gone from a Blackbird to a ZZR1400, back to a Blackbird and now looking for a K1300S! How does it compare comfort wise? I needed bar risers on my last Blackbird...
In all honesty I think the Blackbird is a better bike than the K1300S . Comfort wise not a lot in it both all day long bikes. I miss the bird but love the K. The Blackbird engine has its own soul and is the only way I can describe it both bikes built at the sweet spot of each manufacturer prior to all components being made out of cheese in China.@@MatthewDay
Great comparison in real world conditions. I'm used to slower 70's bikes with NO brakes ( R100RT, CX500 and MZ TS250) and am not used to too much power so imagine my amazement with my new addition to the stable , a '95 VFR 750......that seems to do everything fast on tickover and only 100hp so 180hp boggles the mind. Keep your excellent comparisons coming. Thank you.
Well I for one really enjoyed that vid Mike. Be great to see more like it. What a privilege to be given access to two such lovely bikes. That Suzuki just looks the business in black! I rode an earlier K1300 model years ago, the one with asymmetrical lamps, looked like a robbers dog! Very aggressive and great to ride, just so stable at high speed. So, yes, Bravo 👏 Mike, and more of the same please. 😉
Thanks Rob the bikes belong to Stews brother in law dont know if you have met Andy Hope you are going well 👍 I have a fair bit of Andy bike footage that I might put out have some good MT10 footage
love to see any bikes you can get your hands on old or modern classics .reviewed by people who know bikes and whose opinions you can trust . keep it up guys.|
These are not new bikes anymore so they fit in with what you normally do. Tried the gen 1 Busa about 20 years ago, was not too impressed but that was mostly because I chose the wrong road. It was too twisty so the bike was too long to work properly there. My bike at the time was a slightly pepped VFR that made 113hp at the back wheel so I was used to power, still that aspect of the Busa impressed me. Could not go wild on normal roads but could not help but notice how powerfull it really was. Nice vid!
K1300s as k1200s are much much better than busas even busa gen2.Comfortable, brutal power, in corners you play like supersport, and the beauty is unique.
I've been curious about the nature of these two motorcycles, and you have mostly quenched my interest of what they are like to ride. I completely enjoyed hearing your take on what these two are like. Thanks for a nice story, and more like this would be great.
I have got the K1200r and find it to be really smooth, as long as the revs are kept at 3,000 rpm or above; it’s a bit snatchy on the fuelling below 3,000 rpm.
I have a K1200 GT (06) and the vibration is one of the things I don't like much. But it's better than my 1290 KTM. I have a Gen 1 Hayabusa and left a ZX-14 behind when we left the US. The Kawasaki was notably smoother than the others.
Nice video Mike thank you. I would like to see more of these head to head videos even if it's on smaller capacity motorcycles like the Royal Enfield 350's. I hope the rest of the LDG are keeping well as you all add to your channel and I always love the get together at the end of your videos for a chat about the details of the day. Keep up the Good work.
There are some good bikes from early 2000's, 20 year old classics now. I'd have the reliability and build quality of the Hayabusa rather than be throwing money at the BMW. Nice review, cheers.
I have a 2014 K1300R and absolutely love it. Engine has TONS of low power. I have done 100Km trips without any issues. Servicing it is a bit more involved such as vacuum coolant fill and oil change.
Great quick comparison. I'm off the generation that loves 70s and early 80s bikes the most but more than happy to see more modern kit under review. Both way too quick for me!
Spot on the fuelling Mike, cmg from Honda 750/4 many moons ago I found the K13 I just bought throtle like a switch on pick up from rest, low revs. Glad to know its not just me. Totally agree on the stability once under way, very reassuring
Had both gen1 and 2 busa's, not had a k1300s....have had a k1200rs though. Both these machines are brilliant, and great value now. On my third cbr1100xx super blackbird, and it's also up there with these 2 reviewed, possibility even slightly better in many ways. Mighty warriors of the past them all, and capable of going down local shops, as well as two up fully loaded continental trips. Pound for £, absolute motorcycling bargains these days!. Great review guys safe rides.🥂🇬🇧🏁
Thanks Mike. Nice review but I was missing a few close up photos because I don't know so much about this nice bike. But anyway it gave me a good idea about what this BMW K is all about. Something else than always the BMW GS' es..... Ride safe and enjoy Summer !
I have a built k1200s ported heads titanium exhaust zero baffles intake with k&N filter plugs and computer work my brother has a 2023 s1000rr sport with carbon wheels and he can not take me 191 is where the gear ends at 11k in sixth I left him speechless
If it's bikes (road bikes anyway) I'm interested, so vintage, classic, moderns ... I'm in. I wish your review had some commentary comparing different feel between Busa's standard forks and the K's duolever, and the same for the final drive, shaft vs chain. Maybe there isn't much difference, since it didn't provoke you to reflect on them. In any case, thanks for the video. ✌
yes you are right trouble is I have done thousands of miles on the two “funny” front ends and I am used to them so didnt think to mention in detail The closest I can say is the front ends are massively confidence inspiring to about 95% then they dont give you that final bit of feel ( I know because I have two plates and 9 screws in my ankle from a trackday on a GS) But on the road not pushed to the limit they are superb you can trail brake right to the apex Shaft w chain not a massive difference in feel tbh
I really enjoyed this, but I may be a bit biased as I've owned a 1st gen Hayabusa since 2003. Many bikes have come and gone since but I can't imagine being without the Hayabusa. It's done a lot of 1000km days and it's really good everyday bike. The brakes could be better but they seemed OK 20 years ago... The older stuff is great but as a slightly younger (54) person I grew up with Japanese 4-cyiinder bikes and it's nice to see them get the LDG treatment every now and then.
Just about to sell my 1st and last “adventure bike” there not for me even though my multistrada pp was a more road biased . These 2 are in my watching so great timing as reviews a scarce.
Excellent comparison of 2 great bikes of the time. How about a review of a Suzuki GSX650F and a similar bike ? I have a 2012 GSX650F which I really enjoy riding although, at 69 years of age I am starting to find it a bit heavy to manhandle in the garage. Out on the road I don't notice the weight and it feels well planted. Would be interested in your opinion of this bike. I have enjoyed watching your reviews of the older bikes as well , obviously I am old enough to remember most of them and have ridden some of them. Looking forward to seeing your next video.
What I do with the reviews is pick music that is vaguely of the era. with the Norton’s and Bonnies I go with 60s blues etc the SQ4 i used a rockabilly type Also you cant actually use “proper” music like Clapton etc because I would get slapped with a copyright strike and potentially have the vid taken down Thanks for the feedback though 👍
Really enjoyed the video , a friend has a gen 2 ‘Busa’ while I have a K1200s and I always wondered what his would be like. The only disagreement is I would say that after 200 miles around Lincs/Derbyshire my ar$e was not so happy 😆 ,but that was due my metal knees rather than the bike...carry on!
I was at the Dalesway cafe on the A59 near Skipton last week where they sell slices of cake and I noticed there was only one slice of Lemon Drizzle cake left, plenty of the other cakes, so did you and the gang stop there ? 🤣🤣
The K1300S is an awesome high performance sport touring bike. I'm having a hard time selling my dad's beautiful 2011 w/ low miles for $8K asking price. I'm not willing to give it away...
They are indeed awesome bikes but unfortunately fashion has changed to more upright bikes. My friend in a local dealership says they are very slow sellers despite their undoubted quality.
The gen 2 hayabusa comes closer to the k1300s couse of building year and electronics. Loved your time and comment spend on the bikes! Keep it going! I ride a gen 1 with upride steering. Sbk kit on it. My daily ride:)
Thanks for your comments i am not an expert on these bikes we are more classics on this channel its just that I had them both in my garage so thought Hmm that might make a good video 👍
Around 7-8 years ago I knew a guy who owned a BMW1300, he had to wait over 9 months for parts when the gearbox crapped itself. He said it went well whilst going. going.
Wow I would very strongly advise against it. They are both very powerful machines get some experience on something more manageable, build your skills then move up to one As a first bike it will overwhelm you and put you in in a dangerous place
@@LemonDrizzleGang not in corners because of weight and also because of brakes, brakes are crap, you cant drive so many kilos as you drive lighter supersport!!! I know what i am saying.
No its just bike availability I have a 1961 brit bike review in edit at the moment And in the next couple of weekends we are testing 4 1920s/30s hand change bikes I explain it all in this video
@@LemonDrizzleGang Thank heavens!! 😁😁 I bet you could get hold of some really impressive machinary if you asked for subscriber's rides. Something like a Rickman Interceptor would be nice or even a well engineered Triton. Goldstar V Velocette - the sky's the limit if subscribers volunteer their own bikes. 👍
Hi Mike, I owned a new K13 in 2014 (only kept it a year) I just couldn't get on with it. Hated the slow steering (only worked for me on motorway and fast A roads) no steering lock to speak of, way too heavy and the engine drank oil for fun. Swapped it for an S1000R which I enjoyed far more. Most disappointing BMW I've owned.
@@blueyondermoto my experience was quite the opposite 😐 I put 57,000 miles on mine and still am surprised at what that bike was capable of 😎 I don’t compare it to my R1 or my GS but it was an amazing experience 😎
Great looking bike the K1300S, huge power and a decent tourer, just a shame it's such an unreliable bike! just like the K1200S (and R) lovely to look at, but blimey are they forever breaking something! ABS/ESA/FUEL SENSORS/REAR HUBS the list goes on (and these are the "common problems") so maybe the Busa is a better choice? will probably retain it's value better too 😁
@@twowheelstouring482 These issues are very documented, I have had the K1200 and pretty much all the common issues that go along with those, And I was considering the K1300 as I had heard they addressed all these issues on the updated bike, but then chatting on the forum and FB pages.... it seems the 1300 is also full of similar "common problems" and with BMW charging £100+VAT per hour just in labour costs, it's just soo bloody expensive when they do start to go wrong! there is a reason that the K1200 used go for around £2.5k now, and even the K1300 can be had for around £4k, amazing bikes with crazy power and awesome tech - but when they go wrong.......
@@LemonDrizzleGang Right you are! Having said that, and being an experienced (aka ol’fart) rider, I wish more manufacturers could offer reverse assist on bikes over 500 lbs.
