The "E" chord shape moving up the fretboard was how I learned ALL the chords were linear. My index finger just became the 'Nut'. The Caged system is a 'Lightbulb' awakening moment for me. Thanks Marty. 🎸🏫 💯👍

I played guitar for 40 years. I'd heard of CAGED and looked into it casually but it didn't resonate with me. Then one day it all fell into place in my head and made sense and I was blown away by how powerful it is. I wish I'd understood it sooner.

The Caged system is how I learned and it worked perfectly for myself. Thanks to it and lots of practice I can fly around the fretboard pretty good

I'e always used my pinky on the G chord to have a free finger and switch to the funky C chords or something like B7 but seeing you use the D note on the B string to shift to a D major was a dope trick and I could probably cut out alot string noise that I create by using that.

I will “highly recommend” for beginning guitar students to play the open A chord with the fingering “middle finger, first finger, ring finger” on strings ④ ③ ② - this will give you a much smoother transition to the open D chord and open E chord.

I learned the CAGED system, but it wasn’t worded that way, and taught it that way as well But never referred to it as CAGED So different ways to teach the same ideas and different ways to learn those ideas

One takeaway for me from this video is I don’t have to “worry so much” that my gray beard is showing at the top of the camera frame when I shoot my guitar tutorials that focus on a close-up of the guitar. Thank you for the tacit permission.(lol)

Man i always brain fart about stuff like you showed with barring the open A and having single notes available while barring….🤷🏼‍♂️i may spend today just noodling witH that. Also barring other chords (caged chords) aside from E and A up the neck are basically impossible for me… either the creases of my 1st finger line up and wont fret string , or when i move 1st slightly or roll it i muffle a note of other fingered notes…literally cant slide a hair inbetween the string above or below whatever note my 3rd finger frets , in any position ….am struggling to figure out “alternative “ partial chord fingerings for ever …
