Please don't change your format, you're doing those of us who want learn a subject matter, rather than answer a question or two, a huge solid by taking the time needed to teach. THANK YOU
I am 54 years old, and this is the first time I have heard an explanation that actually DID give me that AHA moment! I agree with all the others that appreciate your longer explanations as without your full explanation I would still be stuck in my rut!! Your explanation here in this video has pried open my rusty old brain and poured in a world of option and opportunity! Sister Shapes for the win!! Thank you!
Okay, so I never comment on videos but I have to leave one here. Not even being 10 minutes into this I am super excited to begin this lesson. I deeply respect your integrity and your commitment to making long form videos. I'm sick and tired of what you call teaser and sales pitch vidoes. Long form videos are truly, not just the best, but the only way to teach what you're teaching. I'm subscribed. Never change bro.
Well said Daniel!! I agree 100%. I do not NEED the CAGED cuz I learned 40 yrs long, modes and scales and every other thing. But we all can still learn ever singl;e day. otherwise what is the point in living ?
Do not ever change your method of videos. They are brilliant and infinitely better than the other channels with short videos. The small illustrations you put at the bottom are perfect. I also watched your pentatonic video and I can finally see the chords, triads and scales and how it all works together.. Now I just have to practice it.
Best content on YT for the guitar. The long format fits well for those of us who are willing to learn in depth from others. This is more like a masterclass for the subjects you cover. I have a Bachelor Degree in vocal performance, and I can tell you your presentation, content, introduction to the lingo, and practical applications are easily first year university level and more. The length of the 'master class' is filled with loads of little tips, tricks and insights and subjects are clearly explained. One thing I like is that concepts that are commonly known among experienced players are explained in ways that we may not have heard put quite that way, so we get a new insight that we may have missed in the past. Don't change a thing.
been playing guitar on and off, But never get it real solid, because of patience and never get it right by selftaught. Im am one of your examples by not knowing the language of the guitar but just learning and copy chords on you tube and online music. You gave me a total new energy it gonna give me a some time to understand what you teach about the CAGE system. I want to thank you on behalf of a lot of guitarists who lost them self on their way and stop playing.. Because of you I am back on track. Thank you a thousand times
The first 30 minutes of this video cleared up a ton of questions I had so thank you for the long form videos. Please do not change the way you’re doing it. This is the first channel I’ve liked and subscribed to in a very long time. Lol 👍🏻👌🏻
Thanks for your great lessons. I am 51 years old, and just playing for 2 years and my brain is old, I mean very old. Hallelujah it is a miracle you learned me a lot! Thanks from Holland
I happened across your RU-vid site for the first time this morning. I’ve got to tell you that you teach in a way that makes it so much easier for me to understand the caged system, triads, and bar chords. I am looking forward to spending a lot of time studying this lesson. Please don’t change anything in the way you present your lessons!
Subscribed. Best teacher I’ve found on RU-vid. Format is great. The overquick explanations on other channels aren’t as helpful. Had a “lightbulb” moment watching the pentatonic video earlier today. Back for more.
I have watched hundreds of videos on this subject. Yours is by far the best as it not only explains the how, but the why. And takes it to it’s practical relevant conclusion. Thank you!
This is by far the best lesson on the CAGED system!!! Unlike other lessons that only discuss the CAGED shapes , This lesson starts with the foundation. It covers how the guitar is tuned and how chords are created, how the Major & minor 3rd work, how the B string impact chord/scale shapes. The part about the sister/symmetrical shapes is an eye opener and makes complete sense as to finding the roots on the E, A & D string. You don’t need any other CAGED lesson after watching this. Just a brilliant way of teaching and making sense of everything. Guillaume, vous êtes un trésor!
@@willmetz_music Your explanation of how chords are formed with roots on the A & D string gives us great foundation for understanding the chord shape and how it relates to the B string
I never got a grip on the cage system until I practiced it as the chords sit in the Major scale M m m M M m. So much easier for tone targeting doing it that way cause it moves for all keys. I been watching your lessons for the last two weeks, you are definitely a contender for one of the better channels.
Not sure how you’re gonna be able to keep up with these lessons. Amazing job. One hour long and it went by like a breeze. I truly appreciated what you’ve done.
Hell yeah dude. If someone is all in about learning to play a guitar, then that means that in-depth learning with long videos is required. Which means it's not a drive-thru window you want, it's a sit down at a good restaurant. Keep being that sit down place Will. Great stuff 👍🏻✌🏼
"What you seek is seeking you", i guess that's why your video caught my eyes, and after 6:28 I'm totally impressed with you sticking to your plan which is being a good teacher. Loving the video so far 6:47, more power to you for great videos
Thank you for the longer format video 100% agree there are no short cuts to learning something properly. Hence a degree is not a 2 week course. Your lessons are very well explained which makes it easier to understand something that is quite complicated to most people. Thank you for having the time.
Just subscribed after watching the first 5 minutes of this video. Thank you sooooo very much for your time in doing this. I am going to continue to watch this video because just by listening to you and your mannerism, tells me your genuine about teaching people, which means your authentic about what your saying. That says ALOT!! Thank you again sooo much!!!
Thank you, Will, not just for the "What IS the CAGED System" that many others have taught, but for all of the in-depth reasoning and practicality, along with the helpful exercises to practice that can help solidify that knowledge into our hands and fingertips! ^_^ THANK YOU! ^_^
Exactly what I've been looking for - thank you. You've captured what is needed to learn, understand and use the caged system, major and minor. Great lesson!!
Kudos to you Will ! There are no short cuts! I know most people value your Integrity and commitment to your guitar craft and as a teacher. Your content and expertise is exceptional ! Subscribed after the first 2 mins ☝️👊
I love the long format breakdown, and I had some big realizations with how the caged system directly relates to finding triads. Things are a lot clearer now, keep up the great work!
Thanks for taking the time to explain I have heard people talking about these subjects but they dont take the time to explain in depth as you have so I thank you sir, and appreciate the length of your posts.👌
i remember figuring out that the F chord was just the E chord all moved up a fret i was shocked but also like "yeah that makes sense" like guitar doesn't make sense until it clicks and then it's like why didn't i see it before! and your videos definitely help some things click! thank you, never make shorter videos!
ive always been a dabbler for almost 15 years getting by with punk in the basics of playing by ear, had a moment where i told myself i was getting bored and wanted to actually start learning the neck and learning more styles. jumped around for a few years through youtube feeling like i was being led into a desert without being told it gets as cold at night as it gets hot in the day. your video had my attention the whole time and i actually learned something that i didnt feel lost in. im subscribed and feel like ive finally found the right person to show me how to survive in this desert.
Your videos are defintely the best and systematic guitar tutorials that I have ever seen in RU-vid, thank you so much for sharing all those great and valuable knowledge.
I’ve only just started watching this video. You are so right to do longer videos. We live in a World of shorts and “reels”. Attention span is a thing of the past. The only way to learn is to go in-depth.
the voicings on guitar made much more sense when i started visualizing it as a piano like the A major chord on E shape, the strings 6 and 5 are the left hand on the piano, playing A5 or A octave strings 4 3 and 2 are the right hand, playing the triad
I watched your video 4 times and I'll probably watch it 4 more times ,love the video and I really appreciate you taking your time to explain the caged system, I learned or tried to learn it explained a different way but the way you explained it really made it come to light
This video is SO good that I feel like I’m stealing from you by watching it for free. I’m an experienced player with lots of knowledge gaps and I’ve been trying to fill those gaps, this is by far the most complete and easy to follow video on the CAGED system that actually makes sense. I had so many aha moments and I’m really looking forward to dig deeper on your other videos. Thank you!
Thank you for putting up great content. I have been returning to your channel ever since I first stumbled upon it maybe a year ago. High quality, one of the best teachers
Thanks for making this available Guillame! Between your books, lessons, and watching you play live I have definitely been inspired to dig deep and work on my own playing. Since taking lessons with you I have grown significantly as an improviser and am no longer nervous to take on a guitar solo with my group!
Outstanding Video! the RU-vid algorithm served this video up to me. I have watched several videos on the CAGED system in the past and always came away thinking that it was a waste of time and rather pointless. I skipped the first half and started at 25:10 as I am familiar with the earlier content. I really appreciate how you put chapters in your videos. That way a 1 hour video does not feel like one hour. This video for the first time showed it's real value. I have never seen a video which connects the *voicings* with the shapes. Plus I really appreciate how you explained that caged allows you to play in one spot. Great Job.
Bravo !
I agree with many of the comments. Do not change your long format. It is phenomenal. People don’t want to put in the effort to get good at something. Love your channel.
Yes Will, your videos are long ... but they cover a lot of ground and your explanations are thorough. I fail to understand how so much material with the indepth explanations could be covered thoroughly in much less time. I personally watch them over a couple of sessions and that works for me. Thanks for all the help, it's much appreciated.
Thank you for this video. I love it. I've been playing for about 35 years but just recently decided to start moving my understanding of the fretboard forward. I had never heard of the CAGED concept until recently and it seemed overwhelming. But I do know barre cords, open cords, triads and some scales. The way that you have explained this actually makes a ton more sense than any other video I've watched and helped me realize I already know a lot of the CAGED idea but I didn't know I did lol. I feel I can fully learn this now thanks to your format of teaching.
I love your detail.i would like to see a video on how to change the key of a complete song, notes and chords and solos and all,and how to play it in all keys thanks.also how much will your program cost and when will it go live.
Thanks so much Mr Will. I actually got the link to your video because on the search filters, I filtered for long videos. I actually love long form videos cuz they give the instructor the latitude to fully express themselves and explain the content. Thank you for giving us such valuable content for free. Am following from Cameroon
Please ignore all the detractors who cannot be bothered to watch anything longer than ten minutes. I have been playing guitar for over forty years and you have just explained something that has been puzzling me ever since I heard about - admittedly only five years ago. The CAGED system is something that I have been really trying to get to grips with, but all attempts with books have proved unsuccessful, Even though I am familiar with barre chords, I could not 'see' it. You have shown me the key to it in JUST ONE SHORT HOUR. That is no time at all. I now look forward to practicing the progressions, along the lines that you have demonstrated. Thank you again.
Love what you do brother!! Don't change a thing Some people always trying to get in the way trying to ruin something good happening If you people ou there don't want to watch these long videos, then go somewhere else. I love these videos!
This was a very good video and Learned alot from it understood all of it I'm beginning to see that caged system is quiet a usefull tool not just to find chords all up and dawn the neck but to find chord tones and arpeggios and also helps develop knowledge of were all the notes are on the fretboard and can also help with chord construction and chord tone targeting i always thought it was just a way to learn how to play chords up and dawn the neck but realising now that it awnsers alot more then that and now I can see how important this tool can be. Also i like the long videos because it means your teaching it properly .
really appreciate how you keep it real with us the viewers and upload different longer videos on these subjects despite the potential success you could have doing what everyone else it doing
THANK YOU SO MUCH WILL. YOU ARE A GIFTED TEACHER AND VERY GENEROUS. I AM 76 AND AM GREATLY ENCOURAGED BY YOUR TEACHING. BILLY GEBBIE SCOTLAND God Bless.
I think your format, the way you teach and the in-depth aspects ARE your niche in this market! I mean who else is doing it? I should say that also say that you having a proper education in music, being a professor, etc. obviously give you credibility right out of the gate. Guys like Marty Schwartz are great for beginners looking to learn songs, quickly and now and again showing some basic theory for beginners. But, there are slew of these types. Then you have those who go over l the cage system is without telling you what to do with it. You end up walking away with the shapes without practical knowledge of how to use the system. And then there’s a bunch of people like me who are hungry for the more in depth education, and I think that’s why most of here and it is much appreciated.
Amazing content! Really appreciate the effort you put into this. As a wrinkly septarian I'll need to play this through again for it to sink in but you explain things exceptionally well and you deserve a big pat on the back for putting this content out.
I value that you aren't willing to shortern your lessons. I, too, find modern society's short attention span very concerning . I've just subscribed to your channel 😀. I will watch the full video soon. Thank you so much for your dedication to creating this lesson 🙏. :)
I have never used the CAGED system cuz nobody ever broke it down the way you do. HUGE KUDOS!!! Taking your own time teaching as long as you want to make people better is what you are doing. The people who complain will NEVER GO ANYWHERE cuz they was instant gratification. Typical millenial crap. I have been playing 40 yrs and never heard of CAGED till a few years back. My teaching was self-done with lessons for the first 2 years learning modes and scales. As a metal head , my interest was my chops. I honed them to a razor edge and still do. But I want to thank you sir, you are a blessing. Ignore the lazy peons because they are bratty and selfish children who just wont EVER work for hours on end to play the guitar well. You keep it up brother, and thank you again.
