Right now I'm rolling with the Sony FX30. Which is a great camera. And, yes...I'm eye balling the ZV-E1. But, when it comes time to leveling up to a cinema camera, I'm still looking at the Canon C70. The internal ND's and Canon's amazing and accurate skin tones makes it a no brainer. I've watch hours of videos on the C70 and other cinema cameras. But, as a low budget/indie filmmaker, being able to shoot without drawing attention I like using cameras that have a DSLR shape. While the C70 is "bulky", it still looks like it could be a photo camera. In the end, I am still looking at the C70 as my next level up.
Nice! I agree, I absolutely love the form factor of the C70. If balances not being too large while also having a lot of the features of a bigger cinema camera.
My man, you are crushing it. You’ll grow to that C500 before the end of 2023 the way you’re putting out quality content. I’m in the market for a C70 but I’m going to follow your advice for now and roll with the gear I have. I’m no pro, nor earning a living with my C100 MKII & 90d. But I see the limitations of my C100 but it still meets my needs. Going to get better with what I have and save up for the C70. Thanks for the music tracks site, the intro was on point.
Coming from the C100 M2 I'm obviously blown away with my new C70. I did tons of research and knew the pros and cons of the camera and the limits of the super 35 sensor.The firmware updates were nice that Canon showed an investment in improving this camera. I miss the EVF, but it seems like most cine cameras these days do not have EVFs. I agree with the low light comment but I knew it would only be fair compared to full Frame - no big shock. Agree with the poor hinge even though I got the new model with the problem "fixed" - c'mon Canon - you could have done much better. Also not too impressed overall with the build quality but no perfect camera! For the travel light - run and gun documentary stuff I do the camera is good for my style and a great transition into 4K. Good menus, significantly improved AF, excellent battery life, files grade very well, built in NDs, good audio (even with the annoying mini XLRs) so far I'm very happy with my C70 and I'm sure it will serve me for a long time.
@@BrockRoberts I appreciate your comments - especially reminding me to not underexpose - even with this vastly improved codec compared to my C100. The C100 420 8bit has always been unforgiving without careful exposure. Just so great having a vastly improved dynamic range. @@BrockRoberts Thank you sir -. I was never happy with the original Clog and it was too much of a fight to expose and grade it - that's why I settled for wide DR. The Clog 2 in the C70 is a VAST improvement and combined with the new LUTs much easier to work with. Thx for xlnt video! Waiting to see what the NAB announcements might bring then going for the c70. Definitely a Canon guy, working with the C200 and R6. Wish Canon had shown the same love for the C200 updates they are showing for the C70! It is what it is! Like the sound of Track Club too!
Love the C200 as well! Used them for years! It will be interesting to see if anything new is announced! Track Club is great! Really think their format is the future!
Protip, those port covers can come off, they are meant to. And can be put back on without damaging them, good for build outs. Curious, did you find the monitor luminance setting? At +2 it increases the backlight (not brightness) and makes it so much better outdoors.
Currently, I'm shooting with a Canon C100 mk II. I think the C70 could be the perfect upgrade; but, also thinking I might switch to Sony FX6 for that low-light performance.
Excellent video, respect for you and your creativity, and I also wish you good shots🤝💪there is only one remark about exposure I have a canon с 70, and just an underexposed picture stretches much better than sony's and looks cleaner, confirmation of this is a lot of tests, even on youtube. And in a dark scenario, the iso can be raised to 12,800, especially if you shoot in c log 3. After 12800 it is already dangerous to shoot, but for what scenario are such high iso?). Thank you, World🤝
love my C70.. actually had the monitor fixed like you back in the days... got the first batch.. I got 2 c70.. the R5c and the R3.. and the C70 is the BOMB... Compared to my R5C 8K RAW camera.. i find that with the C70 I dont have to be scared of to much contrast between highlight and dark.. the DGO sensor handles the degrading from light to dark shadows really well compared I find. BUT!! Looking forward to see the Full frame RF, build in ND and Clog 2 cameras from canon in 2024... together with the 24-105 2.8 is gonna be the shit... Hoping for c300 with full frame DGO RF mount... or C500 mark 3 RF and 4K 120p .. Problem right now (if not thinking about the money): - RED komodo X is only good shooting 6k R3D.. and for me its to big files for longer interviews... - Arri is not a one man band camera.. need at least two or three people - Sony FX6 has problems with some og the codex + the missing sound workarounds... (Im not doing compromise on my sound, no way) - FX3 has no ND Build in - Canon c300 mark 3 is EF and crop.. - Canon C500 mark 2 does not have 4K 120 (not often I need it, but i do use it from time to time when clients demand it) - Canon C200 dosent have 10-bit recording... next step up from 8-bit is RAW lite. I mean there is no such thing as the perfect camera.. but damn it the C70 with the speedbooster and some sharp cinema lenses comes close when you rig it up with a external recorder from atomos and V - mount battery and some transmitters I mean.. come on its crazy with all the features with the latest firmware updates.
100% agree! To me the C70 does the MOST right & is the most flexible on the market….within sacrificing image quality! Love this thing. I would definitely love to see a full frame version at some point!
I mean... they need to make that. :) Sony has only full frame options. But also that they just made the RF 24-105 f2.8 for full frame. That lens is made for video. @@BrockRoberts
@@LukeSchaeferFilms the C400 is awesome.. it has to be right.. but you need a B - cam for it.. and the only easy one right now is the R1 because they both have C-log 2 amd is around 24-26MP. And both are based on the BSI sensor. So they should match perfectly.. and then the RF 15-35 f2.8 + RF 24-105 f 2.8 and then you get almost everything you need for photo and video.. and they work as A and B cam for interviews.
@@propellavideo I get it….with the speed booster s35 isn’t an issue for me! You get the best of both worlds. I don’t mind the mini XLR’s….at least they’re always attached to the camera and not on a top handle 😂
Hmmm I'm trying to enjoy the C70, but with no succes yet. but I just got used on smaller form factors like the R5 and it is hard to go back. Got to lazy or something? Lately I feel the Sony dark forces lurking on me, but I have literally all relevant RF lenses so don't want to start that route jet...
I can definitely understand getting used to a certain form factor! I think you have to use whatever you feel most comfortable with. All I know is the C70 is great for me!
